Hi everyone, I've had some copyright issues with Part 2 of the analysis which is blocking/muting the video. I think the problem is some of the music I used, I will try to fix the issues.
Andre is the only undefeated villian in all of the Stephen King Universe. His aims are relatively small, but he doesn't lie or lose his cool throughout the film. Except for when Billy doesn't kill Katrina. I wish we could see more of Andre. The only character I feel bad for in this movie is Mike. He loses his son, and he has his wife to thank for it.
Nice video, the yt algorithm works in mysterious ways. Even if part 2 went up on vimeo or something I'd be happy to watch. What a good King series, the actors did a great job
Finally!!! I’ve always loved this miniseries. I live in Wisconsin, and every winter during our first major snowfall, my mother and I watch it. It’s tradition. Lol.
My buddy and I rented this in 2002 when we were 14... It just kept going on and on and on until we fell asleep at 4am as it ended. It seemed so rediculous at the time as we were into guns and call of duty stuff but I found it last year and have watched it probably 100 times. It's one of my favorite movies of all time
Came here to ask about the part 2 and more I'm sure. I live this movie and you did a fantastic job so far. I was really sad when I could not find the rest. Pray your health has stabilized.
I’m almost 40 years old and this is still one of my go to movies. This is a comfort movie for me especially on a rainy stormy day all snug in my clean bed linen with a cup of hot chocolate. 🤷🏾♀️
Dude, where the hell did part 2 go? I hadn't watched this series in a while and rewatched it tonight. Now I can't sleep and am in need of part 2 of your review. NOW
Excellent analysis . I hope u put up part 2. This had the best ending . Like it started great but the ending was so disappointing. I mean I hated what happened with ralphie but at least it had an ending I didnt see coming and was really chilling . Why do u think he wanted Mike's son ? He was the only pure man who rejected what he wanted so why not take one of the other creeps kids? Linoge calls billy a coward but was he ? Linoge couldn't control him. Whereas he controlled kat. I do love linoge sarcasm about the girl who billy cheated with " horses arent the only thing she likes to ride when the weather's hot " Robby mentions delores Claiborne in killing linoge I loved that reference
I think he made a choice, by not controlling mike he knew it would drive him insane. Also, I think the ending was actually a game of chance and mike lost.
Excellent analysis 🧐 1 question, why Martha Washington as Andre’s 1st victim? Was it because she was righteous? Surely, she had some skeletons in her closet, at least in her younger days. Or did it have anything to do with the piano lessons she gave to Mike’s son?
This is the best analysis of one my favorite and the most underrated King works off all time. I subscribed and NEED, NEED part II of this. Please, please part II 🙏 Give me what I want
Just the other day while feeling like crap because of covid. I come upon again the storm of the century movie. And started researching the movie and came on to your review. Back when it came out it was amazing. And wanted to know the significance of the movie. Well you nailed it. Thks for your great work
Linoge means "the snow" in French, and Andre', or Andrew, means "warrior" Or " warrior the snow". But with Steven King behind the pen, would you expect less?
Hey there Lord Josh Allen! I just watched your Analysis and just loved it. Ive been a fan of this movie for sometime and had many unanswered questions that you provided an answer to. Thanks so much for that. Listen, I know you did this analysis 3 years ago, but I'm really wanting Part 2. I so what to hear your thought on the 2nd part of the movie. Will you bedoing the other half of the movie???
Hi! I plan on doing part 2 but some copyright issues came up and the video got muted. I think it might have been some of the music I used. I don't want to get a strike so hopefully, I can fix it. Thank you for watching!
Holy shit, so much appreciation for this analysis. There isn't much deeper talk online about this movie that's easy to find! The theory on the cane being another entity makes a lot of sense. It's not uncommon with characters of a magical nature to have familiars/spirits/demons that serve them. I kept thinking if only they could break the cane :p ...but what are you gonna do when you are a lvl 1 townsperson vs a lvl 100 warlock :|
This was my first Stephen King story, and I’m glad to see an in-depth analysis of this from another fan. I always believed the whole town was comprised of monsters for what they did. When will part two be up? It’s been months since this was put up.
I've always wondered why Linoge kills Martha Clarenden...is it some part of the seeming ritual he is about to inflict on the island's community? Is the spilling of the blood symbolic somehow?
Got to be honest, I never saw the cane as a demon vessel. Or 'Alive' per say. I think the Cane itself is a threefold object. A vessel to hold his soul, or humanity even since Andre himself claims to be Legion, not the cane, I think it's first function is like a psychalaracy, like for a Lich, an object to hold the soul, even as he exclaims he ages slower than normal. I think it's second function is a focus, like a wand, staff, crystal, just a point of focus for his spells and will to be exercised through. Just carrying a wand or actual staff would look silly, everything about Andre is kind of meant to be low key, innocuous, nothing he does is flashy. The third thing kinda ties into the second, but I believe the cane, holding his soul act's as a familiar, like a pet wolf. His eyes and ears to everything even into the soul of others. I also think that Billy provides an interesting insight, that people can reject, or refuse Andre, be it love, or willpower but Andre's power is not absolute he can slip up, and people can throw off his yolk as it were. Even at the end of the movie he mentions he is growing desperate as others through the ages have rejected his offer as a town. Even he admits that he isn't all powerful.
Great idea Allen. Thank you for doing the analysis, this film is so intricate and meaningful on so many levels that it's worth the effort. it is a kind of book club lead by a mentor :)
You definitely were right... Everytime I watch this movie I feel cold like I'm there hahaha! No other movie makes me feel this way. Watch it in the freezing AC hahaha! Also I could listen to these analogies of yours for hrs on The Storm Of The Century.
Great job on this! It was always one of my favorites from King. A genuinely thrilling story that kept guttering better and better. Will there be a part 2 by chance? I'd love to see more from you!
I think he failed to influence Billy because he hasn't gotten enough dark feelings inside to be controlled easily. Cate, however, was deeply torn by strong feelings about her boyfriend's cheating right when she found out she was pregnant and also about having had an abortion. Cate is just more into dark feelings therefore she's easier to manipulate.
In a way the opposite of the horror movie "The Wicker Man", where a lonely policeman is fooled by all the islanders. The head of the cane is like the heads of the viking ships, f.ex. the Oseberg ship. We also see this head for a brief moment in The Wicker Man. The magician Andre talks a lot about hell, but what about himself? In the movie he is old and sick. The same Bible that he quotes isn't very kind to witches, so what's really his point? Do we have a case of "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" Or he is an incarnation of the Devil that has to return to hell after thousands of years.
One thing I’ve always wondered and can’t get an answer for is: why does everyone address each other by both their first and last names so often? These are their friends and neighbors. Why is that necessary?
1. It was cool to see Tim Daly do something besides "Wings" 2.My ex hates this genre of movies (especially Stephen King because she know I like him. She did like this though so I guess that's a good thing. 3. Jeffery DeMunn is known as a favorite of director Frank Darabont, who has cast him in all four of his films: "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994), "The Green Mile" (1999), and "The Mist" (2007). All King adaptations. 4, It's not my favorite King book but since it's a screen adaptation it's better than the book for a change. 5. Kat's not the most beautiful lily in the pond but looks like she might be a lot of fun. 😍😋 Too bad that cap doesn't do her justice. 6. Part II spoiler: San Francisco is the perfect place for Linoge and Ralphie to be at the end. NOTE: Great review and PLEASE finish this thing off if you can.
If you think about it, Linoge is actually a somewhat relatable character(murder and possession aside)... Imagine being 4000 years old and being able to see INTO people...perhaps NOT being able to NOT see into everyone he comes into contact with, like a lelepath who can't turn it off...he would see any and all bad deeds, bad thoughts, bad hopes and dreams seemingly forever in everybody he looked at...maybe that's why he's taken with Mike, because finding someone who is for the most part good, honest and honorable is probably a relief...it's why he is drawn to Ralphie, because Ralphie takes after his father...surely the ritual was probably rigged from the start with Linoge picking Ralphie as a pure vessel from the beginning...
Incredible movie. Colm Feore is an outsanding actor. One of my favour actors for sure. His performance in this movie is historical. I wonder why he didn't won the OSCAR yet. He certainly deserve it.
I probably watch this mini-series about 5 or 6 times that I recorded it with a VHS tape and I don't remember what happened to the VHS tape but is there a part 2 to this?
OMG the review that I've been wanting to see. Sooo good, 54 minutes of quality content. I like to watch movies while switching the brain off, so to enjoy the show. And this kind of analysis is revealing the subtextual information, the message that authors inserted between the lines. I never had a revelation that Michael's worst sin is cheating on exam meant something. Had shivers down my spine when I saw this was to highlight the purity of his soul. Also the movie is soooo looooong, but it really is enjoyable. Many scenes are too elongated. Still don't understand why Linoge kept his "what I want" in secret until the last moment. This could've been re-written more action-wise, that he tried different ways to get a child given. And only after taking 8 kids' souls hostage he succeded. S.King's novels are kinda not so great in that manner. They lack, uhm, action, IDK. Hideous plots, counter-strikes, undercover actions, like in chess. Still the best movie though. Never gets me bored to watch over and over again. Cause hell is repetition )
I absolutely 100000% love this movie. It doesn't make me feel cold though, oddly enough it makes me feel cozy and warm. But I love it when we get blizzards here , they're like giant warm mysterious blankets. With the storm and the mystery in the movie its super cozy. Btw awesome cane replica, did you also get a doggy head one made? Or his staff?
I remember back in the day everybody saying that Linoge is really Randall Flagg/Martin/The Man In Black, until The Outsider came out and everybody was saying the Linoge is an Outsider....I don't think he's Flagg, I don't think he's an Outsider, and I don't think he's an entity on the level of IT or the Crimson King, or the Bald Doctors...I think he's more in the line of Leland Gaunt from NEEDFUL THINGS, possibly once a man but undeniably ancient and powerful, but also bound by the rules of the ritual that he invokes...
Yep!: Judex ergo cum sedebit, quidquid latet apparebit, nil inultum remanebit. It means roughly: When the Judge his seat attaineth, And each hidden deed arraigneth, Nothing unavenged remaineth. Basically all about someone judging secrets brought into the open. That's crazy, right?!

I think I've watched this over 100 times. Rented it back in 2002 and hated it (only 14) thought it was too long with a dumb ending... But I guess I've matured and love the soundtrack
i know for an absolute fact that stephen king has been talking directly to me in some of his movies & series. someone or something has been giving him messages to transmit through his films so that when i see it i will be activated and my awakening will have confirmation.

Excellent performances by all, especially Tim Daly as Mike and Colm Feore as Andre!

Got to be honest, I never saw the cane as a demon vessel. Or 'Alive' per say. I think the Cane itself is a threefold object.
