Heads up for the future; not all crustaceans are marine, or even aquatic. Take isopods for instance, aka rollie pollies aka woodlice. Decapods is a better term to describe them all in a neat, generalized category.
I loved how you disproved the idea that its a grasshopper because its really easy to nod along even when you dont know the sbuject, but showing us why its NOT something else really makes you think better.
My friend has some of these as well as various other phasmids. They are pretty funky animals. It is a shame that the lovely green colours rarely preserve well after death
He mostly works with conservation for museums. So he travels around and do work for them to keep/restore their collections. Though he has some specimens in his private collection as well.
@@sungpark3316 What's the issue? He said the cientific name only. It's not like you would've guessed that. The name doesn't give anything really, unless you were familiar with the name already, and if you were you would've probably figured it out before reading the comment.
I used to be creeped out by seeing dead animal skulls and bugs, but your channel is incredibly fascinating and I like to try to guess things and love your process of elimination and descriptions!
Darn we got stickbugged Also! The waist isn't a characteristic of Hymenoptera, since many Hymenopterans don't have thin waists, that's actually for Apocrita!
I’m 28 years old and I feel like a kid watching these videos cause I’m trying to guess and learn more. Haha like my guess in my head or out loud haha great channel. Takes the stress away from work.
I just stumbled across this video. I felt like I was watching an in detail who’s that Pokémon. Absolutely love this video! Keep up the good work my 420 brain loves this
This was so enjoyable! How have I never seen your channel before? Instant subscribe. I was yelling "leaf insect!" at the screen as soon as you started. There's a bug zoo in my hometown that has a lot of different kinds of stick and leaf insects so I've seen them before. They're so neat! Anyway, thanks for making this, I can't wait to see what else you've put out. :)
Oh my god I absolutely loved your video so much , this Should receive the recognition it obviously deserves , honestly the classification the elimination and with this a perfect tour of a taxanomic guide , oh my lord you are amazingly dope
This video format is super interesting. I don't know much about cameras or recording, but if you could somehow make videos like this in 1440p or even 2160p to see all the little details on the specimens, I think that would be super cool.
I love not only all the specimens you presenting and discussing about, but also the way you photoshoot them and filmed them, I mean the lightings so cool and calming. if you don't mind may I know what type of lightings you are using? I'm an animal sculptor, and I really like my animal models be presentable like your specimens in their thumbnail and in the videos. Any advise would be appreciated much. thank you so much for sharing all these facts, I'm really enjoying them.😊😊😊
Oooh some few years ago I have asked for dead bugs in my local zoo (they sometimes very kind and if you ask nicely they will give away dead bugs for crazy bugpeople) and they gave me an almost identical specimen
Makes me think of the locust of the apocalipse.. specially considering that apparently there are like 11,000 species of locust that we dont know about..
how are these carnivorous? can you tell me what insects they eat? all the species of "stick" or phasmid insects have a specific and limited vegetation diet. they are 100% herbivorous inverts.
@@bextings7479 yea, I was being sarcastic 😂 my friend in Germany has had them since she was 10...she now 38. She just allows a few eggs to hatch at a time. My friend also has walking sticks and a New Guinea species. The males are super sketchy and will pinch you in a heartbeat tho
Pre finnishing video I think its part of the stick insect family based on head shape. Edit: woooooo I was right. It is a member of the stick insect family
This is quite hybrid-like. Long antennas and size remind me of the wood/bark eating insect family but the coloring is more towards leaves instead of bark. Those guys have antennas 3 times their body size so this guy isn't it. Leaf eater.
You can really feel the tension between him and the light.
i felt like i was in a really engaging class. love these videos and the explanations that go along with the process!

I'm curious, do you work for a school or are you just a guy with a cool collection. I absolutely love your videos....very educational and interesting.
I think he has some sort of connection with a museum? whether he works at one or something else I'm not too sure.
He is part of a conservation company. He keeps them to preserve them for science.

Maybe he's an entomologist.

This is a giant Jungle nymph, Heteropteryx dilatata. Commonly kept as pets
okay shut up know it all why’d you have to give it away?! The whole point in watching this video is to try to find out what animal it is.

I was watching this at 2AM lol, good night
I'm scared of insects but I enjoyed this for some reason
Luckily he didnt say "I think its a fish"💀
Everytime I see something like this I'm more convinced we're just in a simulation and the devs dropped a new patch...
As someone who lives 30 minutes from Malaysia, I panicked when he revealed the identity of the man-killing monster.

This was very educational and satisfying to watch, thank you for your hard work 🦗💚
I had a female on as a pet when I was little. called her Lilly. Really chill
And funny enough in German those are called ghost crickets
R.I.P. all the Arachnids he did not mention aka Amblypygi, Scorpions, Ticks, Harvestmen and Pseudoscorpions

The whole time I kept looking at its face, thinking why so grumpy? Love the channel. Make On my Friend Maker 238
That head reminds me of a stick bug
when the image of the grasshopper popped up im just comparing it to the insect, the grasshopper is way more cute like he looks so nervous
coolest channel i've come across in a while. keep up the great work!
I keep them as pets. They are really cool.
I suffer from entomophobia and this channel suddenly popped up, I've been watching some videos and I'm enjoying them

Insects also have a body thats divided into three parts head, thorax and abdomen, which is unique to them as well..

Me: "I'm something of a Zoologist myself.
I don't know why but when you said stick insect I instantly got reminded of stick bug meme
love your content, man. keep up the good work!
It's clearly a Cricket Sibling
I instantly thought stick bug. But I was traumatized by a stick bug when I was a kid
So awesome, really enjoy these vids
I have also had a few of these as pets, although obriminae ones
This is so cool! Keep it up man
I was thinking a walking leaf when you zoomed in on the leaf elytra but was also thinking we got a locust but turns out it’s a stick bug
Love your Vids. So satisfying
Thats a hissing jungle nymph

@@hr1242 yeah fr, sometimes its look like pelesit. But its not 😂
Ewwww he keeps touching it. They don't make gloves thick enough to handle that, not for me anyway. Great vid. Remind me to NEVER GO TO MAYALSIA
Hey odd animals! I have a question for you. If you like animals so much, why dont you keep them alive to observe them
„congratulations, we just Eliminated more than half insects in the entire world“
"If it's under five inches, it's an obriminae" Guess my third leg is an Insect that belongs to the Obriminae section
Its a cincinatty kitty catty
I think thay was cool as hell thats what I think. You are the man
it is a female Heteropteryx dilatata.
have had those as pets.
the female does not fly, and the male is a lot smaller and can fly.
Awesome video!!
We'll, at first I thought it might have been a fish but it turns out the jaw bones are all wrong.
Me Immediately after seeing it:
*Grasshopper*
Continues watching:
*OH IT'S NOT*
3:40 two *pairs* of wings
Bros literally becoming ishowSpeed when angry and raging over his light going out
3:40 Shouldn't that be two PAIRS of wings? Lepidopterans have four.
Wow it's surprisingly from my country 😂
Stick insect of some kind, like a jungle nymph. Similar to Mcleay's specter.
It’s a Malaysian jungle nymph
how are these carnivorous? can you tell me what insects they eat? all the species of "stick" or phasmid insects have a specific and limited vegetation diet. they are 100% herbivorous inverts.
They aren't carnivorous at all 😅 females can give you a bit of a kick but are otherwise completely harmless
Mine eat strictly bramble and are chill af

Sorry sir, me think that's a fish!
before i watch my guess is a jungle nymph
Sooo… not a fish?
He looks like what the creation king from black sun was based from
I knew it before watching the video cuz i keep pet insects
this feels like dora the explorer but for adult autistics. im lovin it
I came for bug
I stayed for m y l i g h t
Where is Hanz? We need a bigger flamethrower.
I think I'm watching the wrong Dora the Explorer series
it looks like a assassin bug and a locust mixed together
I don't think you need id'ing this stick insect to know that this is Heteropteryx dilatata
This is quite hybrid-like.

it is a jungle nymph
Orthoptera
Ortho = straight
Pter= wing
the order of straight wing insects?

When he said what insect that looks like the bug i was like Preying Mantis
crustaceans - ocean of 🥐🥐
If you're lucky however, you can somewhat find these little crawlers in the middle of a City

Great!
I live in Malaysia and I've never seen this insect in my life(not that I know of). (Sorry about my bad english)
