@@reymondjames1726 Sims' career was cut short due to injuries. I believe he would have been a Hall of Famer despite playing on a mediocre team if he could have played much longer.
He was a legend.!! Period . Also his college highlights are absolutely unreal . 3 of the best RB’s In college history are Sims / Walker & Jackson. Period
Thanks for these games. Please keep 'em coming!! Also, I remember this game, the Lions were 4-0 after this game (but 9-7 this same season), but incredible improvement from the previous season (they finished a terrible 2-14).
Living in Atlanta I decided to go to the following weeks game against the Falcons. After the 4-0 start the Lions crashed big as the Falcons demolished them. 43-28. Falcons were up 34-6 at the half. I was one of the few Lion fans in attendance. The Falcons fans were mocking the “Another One Bites the Dust” chant.
@@thomaswarner1699 When the Lions started on a losing streak, a local radio station made a version called, "Another one kicks our butt". They ended up 9-7.
People talk about how wide receivers today are taller and bigger than their predecessors in the 80’s. They had tall physical receivers back in the 80’s as well.
This Lions team came out of the gate on fire in 1980, I remember this game like it was yesterday. That 4-0 start had the entire state of Michigan hyped up. Somehow we finished 9-7 and missed the playoffs.....
I am a Viking fan The Lions came to Minnesota a few weeks later, and really bit the dust 34-0. What is different was that there was dirt on the ground at Met Stadium. Perhaps the Lions never recovered from the OT loss to Chicago on Thanksgiving.
@@tigermark64 If the NFL playoffs were expanded starting in the 1980 season the Detroit Lions would've made the playoffs as the 6th seed in the NFC and a 3rd meeting verses the division champion Minnesota Vikings at Metropolitan Stadium and a upset win on the road Detroit would play Atlanta while the Rams Cowboys playoff winner meets the Philadelphia Eagles
Typical Lions, always got your hopes up and then would dash them to smithereens. It's 42 years later and we're STILL waiting for them to at least get into a Super Bowl, let alone win one.
Sad watching the Vikings slowly drift further and further from excellence after losing their last SB. Still they had playoff appearances in 1977, 1978, 1980 and 1982, something other teams would have been happy with. In this season, Minnesota lead Philly in the playoffs 14-7 before the Eagles youth and depth wore them down 31-16. Eller and Page were long gone, leaving just Sutherland and Marshall on the front line from the old guard.
Amen! In my mind, he ranks as the most versatile sports announcer. I heard him rarely for football because I was so young and outside of his regional games. (He called mostly Bears games for CBS. Even if the Bears played Monday night, I wouldn't hear him.) College basketball, boxing, hockey, NFL, Olympic skiing, he could do it all. Plus, he did with class, humility, and solid basics. Read his book On Someone Else's Nickel. He is a great person, period. Nice to see someone recognize him.
A very aggressive Detroit secondary. I don't remember each team's record from that time, but Lions definitely a good team. Lots of speed in both sides of the ball. Great blocking by Detroit's O-line! Opened some good holes against a good defensive front and Viking linebackers. Vikes last team to sport the old NFL black shoes with white ties. I like the Lions' Hawaiian Blue jerseys. The silver numbers are a nice touch. It'd stand to reason they'd build domes in cold places like Detroit and Minnesota. Money aside, the owners and league felt fans who'd been in the stands during wind, ice and rain should be better accomodated. That part was of a good will towards the fans. Nobody thought then, that plastic grass and domes would suck a lot of the drama and character from the game.

Any chance you have the full game on a file you could share via dropbox or onedrive? I am attempting to get copies of every game from Billy Sims career and this is one I am missing.
Billy Sims is without a doubt one most talented RB's I've ever seen play. Joy to watch!
Sims is a guy who could've been a legend if he never got injured.
If he had played for a better team. Manning away from New Orleans might have been HOF. But that is life.

♥️ Billy Sim;; & wishbone offense 1970s & Oklahoma 🏈
#20 B.S lions was awesome. Then a long came #20 B.S., for Lions!! Both Great!!
these are the best lions uniforms the blue with the silver numbers with the sprinkles !!! GO LIONS!!!
Agreed. those numerals just made them amazing. Probably the second best unis behind the Raiders at the time.

Yes I remember that being the theme song..... Queen's Another one Bites the Dust!

When I saw the Lions and Vikes on Thanksgiving the score 45-14 took shape in my mind. Now I must go research whether it was 1979 or 1981.

Ah, so typical Lions ... just as inept in the 1980s as today.

Tim Ryan was a tremendous Boxing announcer
@2:40 Beautiful cut block by Billy Sims. Not sure if that would be legal today but nothing wrong with it back then,
Love the old school bumper music.

Minnesota 10-6
Detriot 9-7
Football was alot more fun to watch at that time at least to me
You ain’t kiddin. Pheew a lot better
I always thought these Lion uniforms would make great throwbacks. The ones they have now are lame.
Correct me if I'm wrong, Tim Ryan & Johnny Morris with the call 4 CBS?
I remember Tim and Johnny doing mostly Bears games, but this is actually the 1st time I've witnessed the duo from CBS Sports doing a non Bears game.

Unfortunately the wheels came off the wagon shortly after this for the Lions.
Truth to be honest my faviorte NFL team is the Lions no lie
All these years later and im still yelling at Tommy Kramer for throwing stupid passes 😂🤦
Where's Darren Nelson? Where's Eric Hipple?
I remember when they beat the Rams 40 - 0 to start the season
Yeah , to the Lions it was like going to the SB , after being totally dominated by Minnesota for over a decade .
"going to the SB"? As a Lions fan I don't know what that means.
Detroit rock cityvthe6 kings
Kramer must have been drunk.
Hopefully Detroit lost by as the clock expired
