keep the part in where you actually need to off a pig in order too get meat from it, no reason too shy away from where it comes from (i feel a broad part of people would agree on this, even those that do not eat meat)
Ashes is already a game that isn't meant to cater to everyone, so there is no reason to not need to kill an animal for it's meat, it's not worth the 5 people that it would please to take this mechanic out and make it less immersive
This game is my last hope for a great mmorpg. Everything currently on the market is either outdated or unfinished. Everything I have seen from Intrepid has been fantastic and my love for this game is growing with each update. Keep up the good work
@@MaxiimTribe DayZ is also one of the greatest games of all time though. I am referring to the original Arma 2 DayZ mod, as I am not sure how good the standalone game actually is.
The concept art doesn't just help the art team make the individual assets, it clearly also helps the balancing decisions. Seeing a picture like this gives a great image of what limitations players need to have on their freeholds in order to make sure that they fit into the world. What I'm seeing in that concept art is a type of landscape that won't be destroyed but enriched by freeholds. There should still be pure nature zones, but I'm seeing here that these populated areas will still feel rewarding to explore and travel through.
When it comes to the rabbit mount, I would increase the frame rate speed of that underlying asset animation, without changing the actual speed of the rabbit, that way it won't look like the rabbit is running slow mo.
Looks pretty good, reminds me of the high point of Star Wars Galaxies and the freedom of placing player towns. Finding that unique decorated crafters home that was setup as a store front or just an amazing museum of collected items was always special.
The golems that you mention I feel you can have them around the freeholds as statues or as gargoyles that can active when the freeholds and nodes are under attack.
The description of "bidding" on the opportunity to own a freehold, along with the upkeep makes it sound to me like these will actually be relatively exclusive. There goes my plan to just be a farmer. What's the player housing system for people who can't spend more than a few hours per week in the game? And where will I use my Theater of Blades skin I bought if I never own a freehold because they're too hard or expensive to own?
I know right?! They should also give everyone a flying mount since those are exclusive and only people with no lives will get one! No reason to make exclusive items and housing since it won't be fair to everyone! Why should they reward people who put more time into the game?! (sarcasm)
@@Cerbium If you notice, I didn't say everyone should have one. I simply acknowledged that freeholds will be rare, and asked what the system is for other players to place their furniture drops etc.; and how do I use the cosmetic skin I bought? Maybe they'll refund those as they were sold without us knowing how exclusive a freehold will actually be. I've played MMOs since Ultima Online and EverQuest, I'm happy with not getting the best stuff. Being a grown up, and all.
Imagine you're relaxing in your little hobbit hole, Bilboing it up, and an adventurer strolls on by, says hello and you have a little Lord of the Rings moment. The possibilities for community is insane for Ashes and I can't wait to dive into it. I'll have to get all my friends to play it with me lol. One thing I hope Ashes follows through with is the player agency and customization of your character, not just with these social aspects but with core gameplay/combat as well. For instance I love how every class can use any weapon, and that weapons have their own skill trees, that adds layers of build possibilities that theoretically makes it very easy to play how you want. The more synergies between classes/archetypes and weapons the better But this Freehold system is promising with the world/social applications, making them more than just personal hubs, but potentially entire businesses, taverns and places that add to the world rather than taking away from it. Very exciting stuff.
As someone who is big on crafting in game, I really really hope that we are able to use the freehold stations on other's land. I don't want to be forced to try to get a Freehold or be part of a family just to use one. I really hope they have it so that we can use someone's crafting station, even if there is a small tax paid that goes to the owner. If freehold owners are able to lock everyone out of their processing stations, that's really going to suck for those that don't have access to one.
They confirmed you can offer people money for a temp invite to their family. But without permissions you can't use their stuff. subject to potential change ofc
The game has so much charm and ambiance. I could be playing this game only for the sole purpose of collecting resources and building a small and cozy house while drinking my coffee. Take all the time you guys need to develop this game. Can't wait for the next Dev Update video!
How do you prevent the Freeholds from quickly developing into ressource monopolies? I imagine once you aquired a freehold you will be able to craft and sell the most valuable profession materials, increasing the likelyhood of winning a bid on the next freehold cycle, and possibly enabeling you to expand to more freeholds on alt accounts or wihtin a small group of players working together to control the market value of materials.
50:50 The color scheme in this environment is wonderful! Warm orange of fall forest with the misty blue of distance and sky, along with halcionite (if that's how you write it) sharper blue. Halcionite looks bizarre and curious, yet it fits the colors of it's surroundings perfectly. I wish all areas and gathering resources take in consideration this kind of color harmony.
I absolutely love the idea of having open world housing and the ability to make it available to other players, and I am OK with the fact that freeholds are limited in quantity. What I am NOT OK with is locking stuff behind limited resources. Not being able to advance in your profession because you do not have access to a freehold is plain stupid. Freeholds being a privilege as mentioned, should give players rewards against their effort to maintain a freehold (e.g. incoming by offering services, cheaper access to processing and crafting, easy access to specific resources based on location etc.) and not lock other players out of content. The foundations of the freehold system is great, but please rethink this "privilege" system of yours.
Though I understand where you're coming from, you CAN use a friends/guildies station as well, even if you personally don't own it. SO you're not entirely restricted from advancing, you simply will need to make a few connections in the world to advance further if you don't manage to have a freehold of your own. I do feel that needing to connect with other players is a good thing, but again, I understand not wanting to have to do that to further advance your craft. Luckily for me, im going to be herbing and logging, so my restrictions wont exist. :P
This is because he was a guild leader on Archeage. He's thinking from the top down. However, even the little guys could engage in lots of "open world" housing aspects in Archeage consistently without having to participate in group functions.
If you are dedicated you will have an opportunity to get/use a freehold somewhere. It will not be just given to every player though. You may have to make sacrifices if you don't put in the same time and dedications others have (like going to a node out the way, or taking the time to make friends with someone that has one).
Do you need multiple blueprint for like the roof, chimney, walls, workshop, porch , flooring or other part of the house to custom the housing to make it feel unique.
I am so excited to play! Constantly trying to limit my AoC consumption and research because that just fuels my sadness on how long we have until release. So excited! Looking great!
This looks fantastic. I hope the animals move about slightly or react to your presence and the other animals to make them feel like NPC's rather than unmoving set pieces. With the harvesting of animals, make it real. Everyone was impressed the first time they say how red dead did it.
The inventory is a bit tedious tho. this inventory is just too much and will get annoying realy quick ... please do not let that happen. Quality of Life in this case is way mor important !!! This Tetris stuff is just too much. Please do not keep that. A better Apprach would be something like the solution as in Guild Wars 2. With seperat Inventory and easy to handle mechanics. Everything else on the otherhand looks bonkers ... damn amazing how the Game is comming along !!
idk why but I actually disagree, I played games like GW2 and the inventory just became a non thing, bunch of items that i never looked at never thought about, didnt know what 99% of the items did etc. you cant try to simplify everything or it will end up mattering so little. kind of hard to explain it but I think they should continue this approach for now and see how people like it in the alpha.
@Isr4fil93 take whatever this guy says and literally do the opposite, stop making design choices based on these disgusting washed up dad gamers who play for 2 hours a week
You always manage to impress, despite the fact that I am not actually surprised anymore by the quality you bring to the table. We knew what you had in store for the freeholds, we saw the concept art for the Niküa und we had a rather reliable picture of how you pull it off, but to see it is still something different. I want to especially compliment you on your character design again. It might sound stupid, but you might have one of the best designs in the entire industry, which is absolutely wild. Creating a new and convincing fantasy race is difficult AF. Tolkien made it look easy, but its really hard to give them a convincing characterization. Most universes that pull it off only achieve this by adding books full of lore. And many either fail completely or only end up with a mediocre "good enough" result that is okayish as a quest giver or a random mob. But here you are coming up with something that is not only legitimately creative, but that also oozes so much personality, that its almost scary. Whoever puts the magic into those designs in an absolute Einstein of his or her craft.
@@rodzwart6360 It might have some kind of Pixar effect, I would agree with that. But I think this will balance itself out quickly once we see the actual model in its actual environment.
This Looks Crazy good, Can't wait to test it out :) One thing I'd like to know is if there's been talks on allowing other players to gather resources on your Freehold. I.E When entering your freehold they have a choice of either : Using services (Processing/Tavern etc.) / Harvesting Resources for a Fee (paying gold to harvest 100% of resources) or Free Harvesting (Harvesting Resources, but 75% of resources goes to the Owner of the freehold) My reasoning for this is that this allows other players to interact with your freehold and You getting something in return obviously, especially if you are out in the world and don't have time to tend to your crops or animals. It also allows other players who are maybe just starting out to get a few resources for a bit of labor on their part. This could be a toggle feature by the owner, that they can activate whenever they need to. This seems reasonable to me since the game will have a big economic focus. Please let me know what you think.
i was skeptical about the inventory system since i saw a video on instagram but after the explanation on this video i now think that the system will be actually good 👌
i am so pumped to purely fish and role play a tavern for people in this game I hope I can have a Bounty board or Guild Quest board for people to come and collect and hang!! Just create a Bait and Tackle Bar pit stop for the locals @___@b Can we hire other players to work kitchens of a tavern or RP as a bouncer for x amount of time or bards to play music or create jobs for people to take on in game by posting on a board within the establishment? maybe to gather supplies for us while away leave few jobs? then they can add to the location freely and we could put a money value upon completion of anyone that takes on the job? local eco-system type of deal Some way of creating our own mini gather quests in game to RP through? Example: Im going to leave for work > leave on my homestead taven a few Quests so when i come back on i can progress to my next RP event > Notice board place 3 quests A) Request for 30 Heritage Sterling Grade A Fish "Urgent request for tonights Harvest Festival! Vera new moons! Need some Fish for tonight we are working on are cooking skills for the new year! If fulfilled the tavern will be serving meals fo Fish stew for 30% off normal market value to the first 30 customers tonight! " Reward - 400 Gold , 1 rod of rookie fishmen upgraded B) Request for Bard to paly tonight at 9pm PST for 2 hour event. Buffs request being Strength and exp and Movement + Harvesting increase "Need musician for tonights events and to help celebrate the new year! our local adventurers and farmers are gonna need some help in a raid and to help them craft and harvest for the raid before hand! lets do our part!" Reward - 500 Gold, Mandolin + 2, future contract for weekly events! C) Bounty on BigChungus69 - he keeps killing the locals and new adventures "Wanted Dead must kill! He is terrorizing our kitchen staff! we can't RP the more times you stop him the better and ill pay top dollar!" Reward - 1000 Gold, 5 Hi-Potions, 1 Stack of Fish Stew, Axe + 5 or Shield +5 Pros- Loved the pig animation! hope gutting fish is same vibes lol just a a bunch of people processing with those animation YES! Con- Please don't do tetris style inventory its super frustrating and not fun in game unless its a survival horror mabe but it seems like a outdated idea that was lost to time for a good reason.
So if freeholds are auction based i see problems where only the rich people will get them or buy gold online to purchase? i also see problems with a group of people who buy a freehold and keep buying more up with each person in the group are free holds limited ? so if you have 5 people in your group working on a freehold can each person in the group also but 1 each how will that work for the small guy that plays alone?
This is amazing how intricate this will be. And from my standpoint I love the idea of getting my wife to also play this game with me, she only like games like Animal Crossing and Minecraft, so she could really enjoy farming, or running the tavern features! All while I'm out adventuring.
With The new changes, you and your wife is most likely not gonna be able to get a freehold, having to compete with guilds and other large groups of People pooling their money together to buy out all freehold spots, and create as much of a monopoly they can. You are unable to do farming or animal husbandry without a freehold.
@@hurtmei6420 Thats not remotely true, you are thinking of this game as a 1 node thing.. just go to some undeveloped nodes with some small scale guilds with lot of space and get your freeholds in.
Just had a great idea!! Your freeholds should have billboards where you can put up quests other plays can do. Like little tasks around your freehold. So when people walk by a freehold they can check and see if they can get some quick exp killing pigs and chopping corn. This will also allow players have to more efficient freehold when they are on the other side of the map.
Game looks like it has everything I've ever day-dreamed about as a teenager playing MMO's. My only hope is that I'm not too old by the time its released :)
I'm 55, been gaming since Pong. Owned a pirate BBS in the 80s. Built my own gaming rigs in the 90s that paid my way through college. I've seen it all.... you're never too old to game.
I would love to see pvp/raidable plots in the outskirts of the influence of large towns. I also would love to see a tetras-style inventory for the whole game not just materials. it makes what bags you have more important due to layout.
Looking forward to this game. They are gonna run into deep sh#% thought revealing that you can only get these freeholds by beating other players out to bid. What about the people that spent a lot of money on freehold cosmetics? I haven't, i mostly bought mounts and stuff but man this is def gonna open up a can of worms for people working regular jobs who will never be able to grind the gold that some people will be able to. Now this all depends on how many parcels are actually available so I guess we will see in alpha 2
@@saltybulldog3241 just to be clear i LOVE the "not everyone can have everything"... My only issue is having this system announced AFTER months of selling freehold cosmetics. Horrible business practice. Love the game so far but it has to be said.
Loved to see this as housing is one of the things I'm most excited for. A few thoughts: As other commenters have said, it's a little concerning about bidding and the way the achieving of freeholds works. What will be the plan to make sure later players are able to get one? Will there be systems to forfeit freeholds if a player doesn't login for a long time? The freehold is probably the thing that I want the most in the game, so what would be your advice on what to do to make sure I can get one? Do I need to start focusing on that first thing? I am just a little concerned about the limited availability. The system itself looks amazing though? One thing I would really love to see is the ability to place NPCs of my other characters around my housing. I usually like to RP that all my characters are part of the same group, so it would be amazing to be able to see them around the house while I'm logged in. I also am a little confused about why I can't have the highest level of crafting on my freehold? It seems like this should be the place where that would be possible. Can you elaborate on the reasoning for that? Finally, is it confirmed that you can't master two professions from different artisan classes? I am going to have a grandwizard-type character and would love to be able to master both alchemy and scribing if possible, but based on the information in the Wiki it seems like this is not possible. Can you elaborate on which/how many professions one character will be able to master at once?
I’m a little disappointed in hearing the low limits on free holds. I would much rather see the properties just being guild town halls at this point. You can have all the things in the freeholds in the GUILD HALL and even add apartment’s (instanced) for guild members
Freeholds and Static Housing are going to be super-limited and difficult to obtain. Is there an intent to provide enough apartments split across all nodes in the world of Verra to ensure that every registered player can own at least one form of housing (and thus have the opportunity for citizenship at some node, even if not their first choice), or are apartments also intended to be a limited and contested function in the final release of the game?
Sadly with a full time job and family to support, looks like ill never be able to compete for a freehold. Thats really sad and gutting 😔. If i have any chance of getting one ill have to focus all energy on getting max level and focus on wealth as fast as possible over exploration and enjoying the story. Because if i dont get one early, they will be bought up and controlled by the biggest guilds and players who can afford to play 80% of their time. Not sure i agree with freeholds being lost either if the node is destoyed. Yes this may help to cycle freehold availability. But no one wants to pump hundreds of hours into designing their freehold to then lose it 😭. I think this system only works if you have these type of freeholds and also identical ones you can own in instanced areas that only you and your friends can visit. That could be the best compromise. You could make it so it still costs a lot and you have to do a lot of quests and work hard to get it.. but not so you have to rush through the game or fight against massive guilds to earn it. You can earn it in your own time. Realism on inventory is never fun. I get it, but resource management and making choices on what resources to hold and what you can pick up is never fun in any circumstance. Its a chore. But i guess thats just a difference of opinion. But i think the vast majority of gamers would agree.
Will you guys be utilizing new A.I. tech in the game? For example there was a video of a conversation with an NPC that used A.I., and it seemed like a realistic conversation.
When the Wii came out, I played games that tried to reinvent the wheel. Red Dead redemption 2 added a "feature" to open a door by hand gestures with the wiimote. It was novel for about 30 minutes then it got tedious. Then I groaned every time I came to a door, it was annoying, slow, and sometimes the gesture wasn't recognized. AI NPCs are the same, gimmicky and useless. The point of an NPC is to give you quests in a deterministic way, not be a chat bot friend. AI, much like procedural generation, has more of a place as an aid for development. I'd expect AI to rewrite similar dialogs, and then be selected by people. I'm sure some people will develop a game around AI, but it's a lot more work to make an open-ended system like that work. How many procedural games feel empty and boring? It takes a ton more trial and error to develop something as fun as a curated experience.
Tibia has conversation text. Not really fun after you need to type everytime to speak with npc. If they add voice to text it would be good but I think it is a little over for this game. Ashes could have player inputs on click but "random" npc outputs, same content but different form. That would be ok. As the other guy said... Typing will get tedious.
@@Ciph3rzer0 True, good point I didn’t think of that. I’m sure the game will be more fun (and come out faster) without untested technology getting in the way.
How will the selling of freeholds work? I feel that if a player is able to sell their freehold directly to another, without a system like an auction house in the middle, it would open the game for Real Money Trading, heavily affecting the game and, given the enormous advantages a freehold provides, making it pay-to-win.
You are speaking about a limited amount of freehold plots being in the game, that it's a privilege, but is there a system that dictates or regulates the freeing up of plots that players have taken up but for any reason don't use it, e.g. stopped playing, or just parking the lot without building anything or any other reasons, i can imagine freeholds just being filled up very fast and never being freed up if there is no system that regulates this. 30:19
I'm currently rewatching this,, something that I think is very cool is; someone out there is going to be able to claim to be the best mount breeder on the server. How cool is that, instead of an npc it's a real person that put real time into raising your favorite mount.
Hypothetically if I have a maxed out freehold with smelting ore and processing wood for masters in each, and also have 8 members in my family is there no other way for me to help out other potential masters in the professions that happen to "live" near me. Is there not a way for me to open up some of the freehold for the public to use? I mean, if I'm apart of this node, how about a way to open it up for members of the node. Just trying to think of ways to not have to micro manage a family, which in my head should be sort of permanent. "Family" to me irl doesn't change often. Just hoping we can open things up to more than just 8 people.
Now, that many concerns and questions have come to light. Has thought been put into players not wanting to craft, farm, or anything along those lines, but just want a real house out in the world? I.e. Would Intrepid consider making your plot different sizes for purchase? 1/3 sized plot, half sized plot, and full 1.5 acre plot? Loved the showcase! The environment team is just killing it!
Super cool in depth system on how detailed you guys are going. However my main concern is about players needed permision from another player to some activities if I understood it right. People are mean in real life, so even more in a virtual game. Please, think about content lock to a few players. That's ok to lock huge economy impact activity to try hard players, but locking activity like farming to a Freehold or "the best processing system" out of major town inst good looking to me.
As a longtime fan of all genres of games and an indie dev working on a hack and slash online multiplayer action-adventure game, I think you guys are definitely making some good decisions lately! The game is more and more like my favorite survival games every time I check in, and I’m personally excited for it! Combined with the action-hybrid combat it could be some serious fun! It’s very similar to what I’m going for in my project too, just obviously on a smaller scale! As for people worried about smaller groups and solos not ever having access to freeholds, could you not give individuals or groups karma for letting others use your freehold, seeing as you can already have a freehold open for all to use? You could even incentive this to players with freeholds, like maybe whatever you let someone process you get some of, or you just tax any usage for a flat price you set and can change, maybe even having it tie into a reputation system so you could end up doing work for a local guild to use their freehold at reduced rates. I have plenty more ideas for how to build upon this as well as other solutions to this that could be done instead, but this is already fairly long as it is and with my luck it may not even get read anyway 😅 I had ironically tried something like this my first time playing Ark, but it was a port merchant city with an open crafting area and gladiator arena on the small tribes servers, and if if you know anything about Ark you probably already know how this ended up 😅 But anyways here’s to hoping I get a chance to work with you guys someday, it’d be a dream come true and I’d give it my all! You may not think it yet, but I know I’d definitely bring some value if just given the chance, and I don’t even want anything except being part of a group doing this instead of alone, especially one as talented as Intrepid! I have some creative ideas and solutions already on my own so I believe I’d thrive in a team like yours! I’ve applied online and followed up, with no luck yet, but I’m still determined to eventually work with you all! Either way thank you all for all your work on the game and I’m looking forward to more updates!!
I would like to be able to enlarge my freehold to entice NPCs to work there. In addition to having a solid base, it would bring in extra income for your people while you're adventuring, working with a clan, or even opening up new area for your people.
My two concerns are difficulty of getting this (the few mega players vs the common player), and pvp griefing. Hoping these aren't going to be an issue.
Yeah I had the same concern, if housing isn't instanced and the parcels are obtained through a bid/auction system, it seems like the richest players will just hoard all the spaces. I hope I'm wrong though
You need to have a freehold in order to level farming, which in turn gives cooking supplies. Does that mean you literally can't level something as simple as cooking without a freehold?
Hi, I was wondering if bookmaking will be a profession? I for one might write poetry and/or stories and it might be kinda cool to publish them even if they only ever appear in my house (and never sell!). No clue if other players would like this.
First up, the freehold system looks interesting and the concept art as well as the visit to a freehold looks amazing. A big concern I'm having is the auction style giveaway of the freehold permits. Since there is a limited number of freeholds per node I assume these will be given out on a first come first serve bases. The concern I'm having is: As a person that might be only able to alocate 8-15h of gaming time per week to a mmo, I fear I will never be able to own such a freehold just because at the time when I have enough money and resources to have a chance to win a bid, all of the plots will have been gobbled up by the players that are fortunate enough to be able to hardcore play these games 24/7. Yes all this can be addressed by group play and the pooling of resources even though I believe freeholds are something, that an individual or at least a very small group of people should be able to purchase and progress but I fear, that a big guild will just be able to gobble up all freeholds in their respective node and people who aren't part of that guild or at least aren't able to play as hard as these guilds/players will be unable to participate in this very cool aspect of the game.
Something like 15 to 30% of people will be able to own a freehold (8-10k server pop and number of freeholds in the low thousands) Families can have 8-9 people. Everyone should have a opportuninty to experience freeholds. If you are dedicated, you should be able to find a freehold to own yourself somewhere. If not you will probably have a friend that owns one. You may not get one in a specific node you want, but if you want to experience the content, the numbers suggest there will be an opportunity out there. Regardless freeholds are supposed to be a privilege you earn. Not everyone gets one.
They mentioned there are other types of player housing. If they make a game where solos can get everything easily, where does progression and aspiration come from?
@@Ciph3rzer0 I'm not asking for easy I'm asking for possible. If my goal were to own a freehold because I am interested in the farming aspect of the game and like the idea of tending to my Farm freehold in the evening after work and provide various buffs to my friends and other players that is something that should be possible. If huge aspects and gaming systems such as the freehold are only available to players, that can play 50-60 hours a week this will generally be bad for the game. The majority of players aren't hardcore no lifers and a game that punishes or excludes people from certain content is a game that will fail in the long term. The specific problem with the auction style distribution I have is, that the required resources to get started with a freehold could be prohibitive for small groups or solo players and the game has already the node system which is a system that only can get progressed in a meaningful way by larger quantities of players. With the current explanation of the distribution of the freeholds I predict, that all good freeholds will be gobbled up by the 24/7 dandies within the first couple of weeks of the launch and the rest of the population of the server will just not have the opportunity to build up a freehold and have the sense of accomplishment that comes with working up the time and resources not only to purchase the freehold licence but also build the thing up and invest time and resources into decoration and laying it out.
@@Ides385 Where did you get these numbers from? From the way they were talking about how they want to ensure that there's space between the freeholds with an addition to the POIs that cannot be build on I assumed that freeholds would be a lot rarer? The freeholds beeing a "privilege" and Stevens favourite party-line "the game isn't for everybody" are all nice pr sentiments, but what does that translate to in real life terms? Will my enjoyment of the game be negatively influenced by the time I can allocate to the game because I will be blocked out of certain key systems by people who are fortunate enough to be able to invest more time into the game? I am fully aware, that players who commit more time and energy into the game should have more resources, gears, levels and so on but will I be excluded from certain key aspects of the game? (The way they are explaining the freeholds, they seem to be massive systems with implications for nearly every aspect of the game.) The fight for freeholds might not be as big of an issue as I am assuming, since a lot of people probably won't be interested in gathering the thousands of materials required to build and upgrade a freehold and just want to get their buffs and then move and slug it out in some pvp or murdering a couple of dungeon bosses instead of tending to crops and cuddling with the cows. I still hope they will address the "casual" concerns at some point instead of just hiding behind some pr lines, but It might also be a bit early to stress out over all these aspects the game is still in deep development and we will see how these systems work out once players get their hands on them during the alpha.
Hey guys, what do you think of an RP system like this: A player made quest system where a player can post a quest on a quest board that states what time the quest is to be carried out, and the reward for COMPLETING that quest, as well as compensation given to people who sign up for that quest and the quest giver never shows up. This is an example: Quest: Help me protect my caravan on our trip north to another node. Reward: 1 Gold per person (assuming gold is hard to come by, and silver takes a while to accumulate) Compensation if quest gets cancelled: 50 silver per person who signs up. Time the quest begins: tonight at 10:00 pm ET Here's another example: Quest: Help me complete this dungeon (or a specific boss) Reward: Some of the loot (except what I'm trying to farm listed here _____) Compensation: 20 Silver per person who signs up Time the quest begins: tonight at 10:00 pm ET I'd like it for EVERY PART OF THIS POSTING to be fully written by the players. Obviously have some regulation on the boards, like a popup window before posting saying "If you are found to be using this job board to post RMT or botting adverts you will lose permanent access to the job board system, and if you've been found guilty of using the job board for the purpose of griefing other players then you will also lose the ability to use the job board system on a 3 strike basis".
"No pay to win" Asks for 250$ alpha access, and a Huge head start in understanding the game mechanics, and learning the map... Still look forward to the release, and will happily pay the monthly sub
Well you be able to put mine shafts in your freehold I saw a blacksmith also any word on what the limit of how meany freehold can be in the world also any plans on letting the freehold owner expand on land owned
Does anyone know if the sound from combat and mining will travel through the environment the way it did in New World? New World did such an amazing job making the world feel alive as you'd hear the sound of ax on tree or pick on stone faint at a distance and grow louder as you got closer.
regarding the meat/killing animals thing, just have a setting that makes it look different but has the same animation time/length etc or just a countdown of the time.
If I have purchased freehold skins will I be able to marry someone with a freehold or join a family that owns a freehold and then have the ability to use my purchased skins on the freehold? It sounds like solo owning and maintaining a freehold will be too large of a task, at least for anyone who isn't no-lifeing the game, so all of us buying cosmetics each month may have no way to ever use the $500 we've spent on them. And the difficulty of actually being able to make use of our purchased skins was not made clear up front 2-3 years ago when they began being sold.
Nope you'll have to join a mega guild that will have control over all of them, and even then, they may not let you use a skin. Yes, you've spent $500 on skins you'll never be able to use solo. LOL
This may sound dumb on my part.. For 30 years I have been an avid gamer crossing pretty much all genres, enjoying and loving it all, yet MMORPGs are my favorite. Take your time to accomplish what ever it is you want, not being pressured to climb the ladder, although esstially that is what we all end up doing. The one and only reason I am making a post here today is, I LOVE THE FACT you have an option of NOT killing an animal just to get some particular resource, instead can keep it alive and come back another day just to re-harvest.. alot of potential is plainly hidden in this approach, plus the appreciatition for level of detail and kindschip to reality albeit we are spending our time (and seeking to do so) in a made up wold. That is what gaimg is all about. I haven't been this excted about an MMORPG ever since Lineage2, which to this day has remained to be my personal favorite. For one, L2 invented castle sieges... and they were awsome - Everyone else only jumped on and copied the concept Two: The economy worked, as in order to enhance your dps/heal output you would need to temporarily infuse your wepon with consumables. These would need to be produced and purchased off of other players. You literlly had to go from one shop to another to find the best deal AND/OR identify ripp offs. Decent players would make a name for themselves and endup with recurrent customers and would seek out the one seller due to loyalty and appreciation. Coming back to Ashes of Creation, I have been following as best I could and tried to be up to date, this just got really exicted as it hasn't been seen before! Congrats on braking norms before publication. Cannot wait for Alpha2 :D Keep up the excellent yob you guys are doing, it's inspiring! And that applies to all'y'alls and the job you are doing, no matter which role in particular you hold, you are all excellent and I love how Sharif doesn't loose sight of that. Bless ;)
What is the intended game play mechanics if you are attacked during the middle of a craft or harvest? What happens to the materials used in the craft or the items being harvested?
Curious how freeholds will work in the wild. Usually features where only first come first serve can get it end up being pretty bad because such a small percentage of players actually get to interact with it. Hasnt ever really worked in other games that tried it, so curious to see how it works out for this game! But I guess we will see!
If I was on this team and had any power at all, it would take quite a bit of convincing for me to want to spend lots of dev time on a feature less than 5% of players will interact with. Besides just getting to use other peoples freeholds, which might as well just be a static city because it actually feels bad once you realize you can't make a freehold because you werent one of the first people who started playing
I wish that there was a game that let you have homes much like the Overlord Manga or Anime. Take over a dungeon and you pay to keep it up to date with spawns and can deck it out for living also. So your guild could be more or less the end boss of the dungeon so long as you can pay to keep it in your name. That would be next level gaming there.
I'm just afraid that it will end up the same way it did in FFXIV and Archeage with hordes of bots camping freehold spots and the majority of players never being able to get one since space is limited.
They said only one freehold per account, so they would have to spend over $100 for even just 5 freeholds. Also the map is absolutely ENORMOUS so running out of room i dont think will be a problem. I believe the map size is something like 10 times as big as WOW classic.
im not fond of picking up manually every single crop on large fieald. Is there any possibility we get farming equipement (scythe for example) that would allow us to AoE harvest our crops?
This looks amazing! Are there any "security" measures to stop random players from just harvesting all of my resources while I'm out adventuring? Can I lose my freehold location?
There should be a 4th level house (x-large) that end game players spend a lot of time working towards. A small mansion. It would be something that would take a long time (1-2 years) of working towards. Like a ridiculous amount of skill and money. Maybe you'd need to have a minimum amount of achievements and overall skill, plus a crazy amount of money.
A thought on resources in the world. Please be aware that as you introduce new resources into the game and world that they don’t negate the value of the previous resources. Example: you introduce mithril and now iron is almost worthless. Crafting and gathering benefit more from complexity of mixing of resources than just the amount of resources available. This mixing adds to realism and the economy of the game and I would argue is just more enjoyable as a player. So for the example given mithril needs to be combined with iron to be most viable. The big hidden benefit of this is that as the game evolves and expands the players are still invested in the original world and environment so you don’t have dead zones. Obviously mixing between professions is vital: alchemy mats needed for blacksmithing and blacksmithing mats needed for alchemy. I say these things having full confidence that your amazing team is already taken them into consideration. I am really impressed with everything you’ve shown so far.
REALLY sceptical about the whole "not everyone will have a stronghold" thing. Let's hope that it's archievable for most people who take the game seriously though. There are so many features gated behind that and it would be harmful for the future of the game if it constantly feels like the first weeks of Archeage if you missed out on the land rush (before you realized that it's not even important). Can you imagine the frustration of someone who invests 20+ hours (dedicated 'dad player') per week wantig to be a good crafter only to learn that you won't have access to some important game features because all stronghold slots are gone. Even worse if you even payed for some stronghold skins in advance.
As a node progresses and stays active for longer periods of time will the monster events that threaten it continue to get exceedingly harder based on how long the nodes been around? Also… You gotta fight! For the right! To freeeeeeeehold!
Glorious Ashes of Creation community! We hope you enjoy our Freehold updates and progress as we continue to actively develop towards Alpha Two! As always designs are subject to change, but we would love to have your feedback and thoughts! ❤🙏
Well done Intrepid! I already watched it live on twitch but wanted to help out with the algorithm.

keep the part in where you actually need to off a pig in order too get meat from it, no reason too shy away from where it comes from (i feel a broad part of people would agree on this, even those that do not eat meat)
Ashes is already a game that isn't meant to cater to everyone, so there is no reason to not need to kill an animal for it's meat, it's not worth the 5 people that it would please to take this mechanic out and make it less immersive
I agree a 100%. Im sick of companies trying to please very small number of people especially abcd community
I don't eat pork but it is imperative for people to know how meat is processed and the atrocities that go with the industry.

Really love that the mount sticks around when you're walking about. Great presentation I enjoyed the slides and chat. Alpha 2 can't wait!
This game is my last hope for a great mmorpg. Everything currently on the market is either outdated or unfinished. Everything I have seen from Intrepid has been fantastic and my love for this game is growing with each update. Keep up the good work
Dont hype yourself, been watching these videos scraping more and more $$$ together. This shit will take longer to release than DayZ did...
Just from the looks of it, this game will prob run circles around New world
@@MaxiimTribe DayZ is also one of the greatest games of all time though.
I am referring to the original Arma 2 DayZ mod, as I am not sure how good the standalone game actually is.

Facts def been feeling the same way. I don’t feel like I’m getting anything out of any other game so this my last hope too
The concept art doesn't just help the art team make the individual assets, it clearly also helps the balancing decisions.
When it comes to the rabbit mount, I would increase the frame rate speed of that underlying asset animation, without changing the actual speed of the rabbit, that way it won't look like the rabbit is running slow mo.
now that you mention it, yes you are spot on
Agreed
@@acajoom animation speed is not connected to movement speed. Or, rather, should not be.
We will make adjustments to this mount in the future. Thanks for the input!
(sarcasm)
if you will never own a freehold then you will never use it presumeably ? maybe they will add a marketplace for you to sell the skins, who knows.
The UI style is really finding its' final form, and I really like it.
We will continue to refine and improve it! 💪
The more synergies between classes/archetypes and weapons the better
But this Freehold system is promising with the world/social applications, making them more than just personal hubs, but potentially entire businesses, taverns and places that add to the world rather than taking away from it. Very exciting stuff.
I can't wait for actual release, they've come so far and looks more polished and with more content thab most AAA games tend to have nowadays
Another banger of a video guys. Please let us play soon!!
I love the look of Freeholds and functions they provide. Makes being in a guild more worthwhile then just a title.
Thank you for daring to be different and resetting what MMOs should be! You’re crushing it Intrepid!
Thank you for answering my question! ❤
Thank you for asking! 💞
If freehold owners are able to lock everyone out of their processing stations, that's really going to suck for those that don't have access to one.
i see no reason why renting shouldn't be a mechanic
They confirmed you can offer people money for a temp invite to their family. But without permissions you can't use their stuff. subject to potential change ofc
Yea would be cool if its like a choice for a freehold owner, they can choose to allow others and add a tax for it
Enjoyed this, really gets me excited for the game! Seems like it will have a very intricate housing system.
I imagine once you aquired a freehold you will be able to craft and sell the most valuable profession materials, increasing the likelyhood of winning a bid on the next freehold cycle, and possibly enabeling you to expand to more freeholds on alt accounts or wihtin a small group of players working together to control the market value of materials.
yep the mega guilds are going to run riot.
good point
I thought the same thing word for word bro! I hope they see this.
This is because he was a guild leader on Archeage. He's thinking from the top down. However, even the little guys could engage in lots of "open world" housing aspects in Archeage consistently without having to participate in group functions.
you can always move to another part of the map and lvl up another node to unlock more freeholds.
I had some questions and concerns relating to the freehold system but you guys did a great job of alleviating them. Thanks. This game sounds awesome
Let them stand apart from the everyday madness. This is kind of like Diablo in that sense. You'll deal with it. And learn to love it
We appreciate your input and will share it with the team. Thank you!

I think the Nikua at this time looks a fraction cartoonish.
@@rodzwart6360 It might have some kind of Pixar effect, I would agree with that.
But I think this will balance itself out quickly once we see the actual model in its actual environment.
This Looks Crazy good, Can't wait to test it out :)
One thing I'd like to know is if there's been talks on allowing other players to gather resources on your Freehold.
I.E When entering your freehold they have a choice of either : Using services (Processing/Tavern etc.) / Harvesting Resources for a Fee (paying gold to harvest 100% of resources) or Free Harvesting (Harvesting Resources, but 75% of resources goes to the Owner of the freehold)
My reasoning for this is that this allows other players to interact with your freehold and You getting something in return obviously, especially if you are out in the world and don't have time to tend to your crops or animals. It also allows other players who are maybe just starting out to get a few resources for a bit of labor on their part.
This could be a toggle feature by the owner, that they can activate whenever they need to.
This seems reasonable to me since the game will have a big economic focus.
Please let me know what you think.
Looks Great. Can't wait to make every plot an Inn and start my AirBnB empire 😁
i was skeptical about the inventory system since i saw a video on instagram
but after the explanation on this video i now think that the system will be actually good 👌

i am so pumped to purely fish and role play a tavern for people in this game I hope I can have a Bounty board or Guild Quest board for people to come and collect and hang!! Just create a Bait and Tackle Bar pit stop for the locals @___@b Can we hire other players to work kitchens of a tavern or RP as a bouncer for x amount of time or bards to play music or create jobs for people to take on in game by posting on a board within the establishment? maybe to gather supplies for us while away leave few jobs? then they can add to the location freely and we could put a money value upon completion of anyone that takes on the job? local eco-system type of deal
Some way of creating our own mini gather quests in game to RP through?
Example: Im going to leave for work > leave on my homestead taven a few Quests so when i come back on i can progress to my next RP event > Notice board place 3 quests

Yep mega guilds or cheaters will be the only ones who can get them.

I would love to see pvp/raidable plots in the outskirts of the influence of large towns. I also would love to see a tetras-style inventory for the whole game not just materials. it makes what bags you have more important due to layout.
Can you tame some of the wild animals or monsters to be part of your livestock and can you grow unique or special crops, herbs, trees.
Exactly it's so dumb. RIP to people who touch grass I guess.
@@saltybulldog3241 just to be clear i LOVE the "not everyone can have everything"... My only issue is having this system announced AFTER months of selling freehold cosmetics. Horrible business practice. Love the game so far but it has to be said.
I'm so excited for Freeholds, i'm going to spend a ton of time theory crafting what class and freehold skills I want to use on my main.
6 days later and it finally pops up in my feed.
Question: What other business types will players be able to have on their freeholds other than Taverns?
History would suggest brothels would be popular...
We will provide more information about this in the near future so please stay tuned!
I really hope you guys have a market/auctionhouse building for freeholds so that players can create their own trade hubs.
Loved to see this as housing is one of the things I'm most excited for. A few thoughts:
As other commenters have said, it's a little concerning about bidding and the way the achieving of freeholds works.
Wow. I am so in love with this game already. :)
I’m a little disappointed in hearing the low limits on free holds. I would much rather see the properties just being guild town halls at this point. You can have all the things in the freeholds in the GUILD HALL and even add apartment’s (instanced) for guild members
Can you build home with the halcyonite and other crystals like that?
So good.
Sounding very awesome so far, I like the size increase and I think that the bidding seems to be good enough, will have to see through testing though!
Thank you for the best update yet guys!
Great to see everything coming together!
Exctied for the ndoe System reveal!
can't wait to see this game in 30 years!
That's a highly optimistic outlook.
Can we place more than 1 mount on the map? Or maybe station other mount we own in some building/location?
The environment team is just killing it!
i would love a update on the fishing profession so bad XD
We will provide more information on that in future updates, friend! 🎣
Oh wow, this is still in development? I'd forgotten it existed.
I have plenty more ideas for how to build upon this as well as other solutions to this that could be done instead, but this is already fairly long as it is and with my luck it may not even get read anyway 😅 I had ironically tried something like this my first time playing Ark, but it was a port merchant city with an open crafting area and gladiator arena on the small tribes servers, and if if you know anything about Ark you probably already know how this ended up 😅
But anyways here’s to hoping I get a chance to work with you guys someday, it’d be a dream come true and I’d give it my all!
Limited amounts of Freeholds in the world, did I hear that correct? So the casual player can kiss that one goodbye...?
Something like 15 to 30% of people will be able to own a freehold (8-10k server pop and number of freeholds in the low thousands)
Families can have 8-9 people.
(The way they are explaining the freeholds, they seem to be massive systems with implications for nearly every aspect of the game.)
The fight for freeholds might not be as big of an issue as I am assuming, since a lot of people probably won't be interested in gathering the thousands of materials required to build and upgrade a freehold and just want to get their buffs and then move and slug it out in some pvp or murdering a couple of dungeon bosses instead of tending to crops and cuddling with the cows.
I still hope they will address the "casual" concerns at some point instead of just hiding behind some pr lines, but It might also be a bit early to stress out over all these aspects the game is still in deep development and we will see how these systems work out once players get their hands on them during the alpha.
Hey guys, what do you think of an RP system like this:
A player made quest system where a player can post a quest on a quest board that states what time the quest is to be carried out, and the reward for COMPLETING that quest, as well as compensation given to people who sign up for that quest and the quest giver never shows up. This is an example:
Quest: Help me protect my caravan on our trip north to another node.
Reward: 1 Gold per person (assuming gold is hard to come by, and silver takes a while to accumulate)
Compensation if quest gets cancelled: 50 silver per person who signs up.
Time the quest begins: tonight at 10:00 pm ET
Here's another example:
Quest: Help me complete this dungeon (or a specific boss)
Reward: Some of the loot (except what I'm trying to farm listed here _____)
Compensation: 20 Silver per person who signs up
Time the quest begins: tonight at 10:00 pm ET
I'd like it for EVERY PART OF THIS POSTING to be fully written by the players.
Relax and enjoy the game
LOL
Will there be any auto-farming? Theres a lot of crops there and I for one would just not be bothered to stand there for hours to pick it all
Lover the concept art, you dont have your cows and pigs mixed up in the dirt together.
For one, L2 invented castle sieges... and they were awsome - Everyone else only jumped on and copied the concept
Two: The economy worked, as in order to enhance your dps/heal output you would need to temporarily infuse your wepon with consumables.
Cannot wait for Alpha2 :D
Keep up the excellent yob you guys are doing, it's inspiring!
Will there be waterside freehold where you can harvest fish and other waterborne creatures like the land based?
Players will be able to place fisheries on their Freehold, allowing them to harvest aquatic creatures. 🐟

Also does it concern you the the family/plot dynamic is a bot/script/multiboxers paradise ?
you guys are killing it! Im only little sad thats around 6years till alpha 2.
@@brandonnufer3670 yeah but you cant plop a freehold just anywhere. It's witthin certain zones...
Where can I go to find the schedule for these livestreams? Or possibly some sort of notification that it's coming.
Usually last Friday of each month.
I'm building a small stone house irl so that i can game in peace. I will not need to leave except for gathering and side quests.
im not fond of picking up manually every single crop on large fieald. Is there any possibility we get farming equipement (scythe for example) that would allow us to AoE harvest our crops?
Players will have the ability to upgrade their gathering, resulting in picking up more than a single crop at a time. 👨🌾
@@AshesofCreation *excited gremlin noises*
This looks amazing! Are there any "security" measures to stop random players from just harvesting all of my resources while I'm out adventuring? Can I lose my freehold location?
No one can unless you permit them. Yes you can.

You gotta fight! For the right! To freeeeeeeehold!
