Traveling to Spain Post-Brexit: Visa and Entry Requirements
Short Stays:
British citizens can travel to Spain for short stays without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism, business, family visits, or short-term studies.
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned date of departure from the Schengen area and must have been issued within the last 10 years.
ETIAS Requirement:
Starting in 2024, UK travelers will need to apply for an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) visa waiver before entering Spain and other Schengen countries. The ETIAS is not a visa, but an entry requirement similar to the ESTA for the USA. It is valid for 3 years or until your passport expires.
Longer Stays and Residency:
If you plan to stay in Spain for more than 90 days, you will need to apply for a long-stay visa. This includes visas for work, study, or family reunification. Each type of visa has specific requirements and application procedures.
UK citizens residing in Spain before January 1, 2021, should have registered for residency under the Withdrawal Agreement and possess either a green residency certificate or a new TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero).
Work and Study:
To work or study in Spain, you will need the appropriate visa. Employers or educational institutions can provide guidance on the specific visa type you need and the application process.
Healthcare:
Ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance that covers healthcare. The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) remains valid for UK travelers until its expiry date, but new applications will be for the UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC).
Driving in Spain:
UK driving licenses are valid in Spain for short-term visits. For long-term residents, exchanging your UK license for a Spanish one is advisable.
Customs Regulations:
Be aware of customs regulations when traveling from the UK to Spain. Limits apply to the amount of goods you can bring without paying duties, including alcohol, tobacco, and cash.
Preparing for Your Trip:
Check your passport's validity.
Apply for ETIAS (when it becomes mandatory).
Ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance.
Familiarize yourself with Spanish customs regulations.
If planning a longer stay, begin the visa application process well in advance

Voting to leave a 500 million population trading bloc and believing that none of this would effect Brits living within the EU is incredibly naive.
It was Crazy
Stupid uneducated Brits,….oh well,never mind,….
@@paradiseworldvideos3859 Not at all, they all believed Boris and Farage over the 300 million and immigration will stop hehehehe. All those wanted to leave now know they have the brains of a Rocking Horse, but we do not want you back, stay on your island with your boat people, actually the Irish boat people have just reached Vietnam.
@paradiseworldvideos3859 How many of the British living in Spain came home to vote for Brexit.
I watched a programme on Channel 4 I think it was before the referendum from Spain and they were asking Brits what way they were going to vote most were in favour of Brexit and they living in Spain why are you voting to leave the EU to many non British living in Britain and not learning English what about you have you learned Spanish No shure all the Spanish speak English with that attitude are you surprised that the Spanish are turning against the Brits.
Votes have consequences. The facts were well known before the referendum. People chose this. Nobody I know who voted to leave has admitted to regretting it. These are the Brexit benefits for the rest of Europe. The EU was blamed for everything for 40 years.
Totally agree, what got me was that nobody actually knew what we were voting for apart from sovereignty ( which we had't actually lost) all the other promises like illegal immigration figures have gone through the roof since we left. It took the Tories a further 5 years of negotiations to finally agree terms, which have since done our economy no good at all. I often ask people to list the gains but rarely get a coherent answer but I can make a pretty long list of what we have lost - but it is what it is and although Starmer is going to try and improve trading, I can't see us being allowed back in, as we were a total pain, especially after Thatcher got us preferential treatment 40 odd years ago. I always thought that Ted Heath taking us in to the European economic community back in the 70's, was the smartest single thing the Conservative party ever did for Britain, as our economy was in serious decline then.
They are not new rules. They are the rules applying to non-EU citizens. Of course, many British people believed there would be no change, as they were special. They were wrong. Also, the UK is treated as a third country, not a 3rd world country. That would be absurd.
@@greattobeadub We might as well be a 3rd world country have you seen the cities lately??
@@JackFlash-is1ry Have you spent much time in real 3rd world countries?
The UK has problems but it's definitely not a 3rd world country.
More Spanish expat propaganda the truth is you lot are stuck in Spain and with climate change the future don't bode well Cheers 😢
Been to London lately you can't even wear a decent watch and you can't get your phone out 🤷
Yes definitely a different world 🌍 to what it was when I lived in London
Glad to hear Spain are upholding the democratic vote of the British people, and giving the British Immigrants exactly what they voted for😊
Its called BREXIT....it was self inflicted!! there sorted!!
I find it very strange that many English or/British people think that people coming to the UK should learn the language abide by their culture you know because they’re foreigners and they need to adapt to the British culture but yet when the British people go to Spain they don’t learn Spanish. They don’t adapt to the culture so why is it on the one handis good for the goose but not for the gander I think we call those people hypocrites.
Hypocrites? I don't think so. I'd call then colonialists. Still living in the empire just like 99% of the Brexit voters do.
Brexiteers living in Spain as immigrants in an EU independent Sovereign Country voted to stop European citizens becoming immigrants in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
And they couldn't see the irony in their argument.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.
🇮🇪🇪🇺
In Spain we are NOT ruled by the EU but by ourselves , in the EU we all follow rules that our representatives agreed in the EU parliament , representatives that we voted to represent us. The ignorance comments are even greater when he mentions "new rules! .... well yes , new rules for third countries, or non EU countries.
that is bollo... the commission Aires unelected pick the rules that our euro .ps vote on. totally undemocratic and the main reason we should all vote out
Great video, I live and work in the Canary Islands, came out after the Brexit vote, got my NIE/TIE card, never been happier. Council tax €120 a year, electric €50 a month, much cheaper and friendly, minimal crime. Looking at the UK now, I think wow, what a mess 😎😊
Well done 👍 great move think a lot people moved to Spain for the better life culture cheap living and the great weather all that uk never had .uk complete mess you are right
Been legal in Andalucia since 1987, we're fluent in Castilian Spanish, now retired and consider Spain as our mother country.
We're not "expats", we're "ex-Brits".
👍
It was obvious Brexit would change people's ability to travel freely. People were stupid voting for it. it's done nothing for the UK. Glad I got here before Brexit deadline, couldn't do it on my small pension now.
Little Britain is a global laughing stock. Thick, nasty and ignorant. No benefit to Europe and we're glad to see the back of you.
We europeans won't forget your hatred towards us.
Now good luck with Trump - we don't want or need you.
They are not expats but immigrants and have to learn to commit with EU law. No cherry pickking anymore.
Me and my family voted Remain… i knew what would happen. 😢 But some people believed all the lies sadly. Worse thing to happen to UK.🤷🏼♀️
We are lucky where we live its all good. But those in Cities and big towns Brexit and mass immigration has had a huge negative affect . Sad.
Thank you for the videos. We are over for a holiday in your area in April. Take care,😊
I am Spanish and I have read your comment, and yes, it is a shame what has happened, but I inform you that the big BREXIT liar, Boris Johnson, yes, the same one who spit shit against the EU, has for a long time had a large mansion in Spain, a place where he usually resides even when he was Prime Minister, he had his family in Spain and he traveled by plane, and when the Spanish press asked him, he seems to live in Spain with all rights, do you know what I answer??? I have a German passport because of a grandfather, I tell you this because the great defender of Brexit caused a great earthquake here, he does not live in the United Kingdom and comment on how far a liar is capable of going, and collecting a large amount of money in a golden retirement that you, the long-suffering British citizens, pay him, you can see the mansion on the internet,
UK is a third country. UK citizens are not treated as second class citizens. UK citizens are treated as NON EU citizens. Two lines at EU borders , citizens and non citizens. But at least you are unchained. Enjoy
We swapped our UK driving licence for a Spanish one before Brexit was even thought about. No driving test needed. In fact up until recently if you were a resident in Spain and had a full UK driving licence, you just applied for a Spanish one, filled in the forms, had a medical, paid the fee and hay presto your licence arrived about 2 months later. No driving test involved. The Spanish government even kept extending the deadline for those that kept putting it off.
Yes me and the wife done the same had to take a medical and do a little test on a machine lol …but now it’s all changed they have to take a test 😩😩
Welcome back to an Island now full of 'Rabs and 'Fricans... Sold a Pup by Boris
Spaniards and Britons we all want to enjoy life and mind our own business.
Politicians don't let us and create conflicts for their own benefit, of course we are stupid cos we always fall in their trap 😢
You know when you have over stayed because you consciously chose to. I've been in Malta for 18 years, sorted out my ID as soon as the vote was in. I didn't wait until 2020 to get my shit together.
Exactly you want to live the dream without looking over your shoulders no excuses everyone had the opportunity
Brexit is like falling off a cliff and swearing blind your going up
He who voted Brexit never left u.k .. never enjoyed themselves
Bitter majority..who were voting for not having foreigners in England.. its backfired that the british as foreigners abroad need to return back....
We live 10 minutes from Stansted Airport and owned an apartment for over 20 years in Torrevieja, at Aldea Del Mar near Playa Los Locos, we voted to remain, we never have probably exceeded the 90 days period in either case, the free loaders, and under capitalised idiots, that borrowed to buy a property have had to sell have gone, we are not in that position fortunately
That’s said all because people were mislead ..lots of people I speak to said they never got what they voted for and some said they didn’t know aswell
You can't really complain. There was a long transition period, I think it was even extended. I understand it can be difficult to navigate, but there are plenty lawyers and agencies to assist you.
I've lived in Germany for the past 20 years, and have never supported Brexit. It's not surprising that after five years, the only benefit that Brexit has brought is to prove to other EU countries that leaving the EU is a bad idea.
Yes agree
It could be worse. Think yourselves lucky the Spaniards haven't imposed a Spanish language requirement. Then you'd ALL be coming home!
Jo no he vivido nunca en España pero hablo muy bien el español y el Catala. Autodidacta!
Puedes hacer todo con tu móvil, no hace falta un profesor!
😅
Seven years for me now, I get by 😂 Still not perfecto though 😂
Same here 😅
Many parts of most city’s spainsh is the 2rd language now
Well done, mate. Most of the Brits living on the Costas find it difficult to put a sentence together.......
Regardless of all current rules & changes. Why did anyone who had property there or who stayed for a good period of time not apply to confirm their residency paperwork before the deadline?
Also thought residents could just swap their UK driving licences for a Spanish licence without the need for a test. Has that changed?
Yes exactly very easy while we were in the eu plenty of time had enough warnings. But they still didn’t bother
I have permanent Residencia, BUT had to go back to I the UK for Medical Reasons. Now im back in Spain, I cant get a TIE card, because I was put in Baja, BUT no problem with staying….Apart from not having a Spanish Drivers licence, which im planning on getting. Once you have one, its opens the door to ALL of SHENGAN
Good luck
We moved last year from the UK and loving it - it is like getting a brand new life
Great enjoy this beautiful country 🇪🇸🏖️👍
As for voting to leave 2 and a half million brits were not allowed too vote! (I know I,m one of them).
Very unfair
Thats awful, how did that happen?😮
@ Torys Theresa May
I spoke to a brexit voter last year who said the EU was being petty and unfair to impose the third country rules on the UK.
He said the visa/border rules were often ignored in the 70s ( he had no evidence of this though), and he said there was no reason why the EU couldn't just ignore the rules now, but only for the UK.
So he thought the UK was fine to to clamp down on people moving here from Europe, but he expected Europe to allow UK people to travel freely in their countries.
You can't reason with that level of delusional mentality tbh, their beliefs are like religious feelings to them, and logic or honesty don't come into it.
They have to remember we left so why do they need to do us favors if we are not paying into the eu 🤔yes people don’t get
At 12:36, you say the average home in Spain is 2,100 square meters, when I think you meant 210 square meters or 2,260 square feet.
Y es correcto 210 sq metres. 🙃
Where was this filmed, nice! Thanks!

Thanks for the updates as always 👍
No problem 👍
Moved to rural Spain 3 years ago after brexit. I voted leave not for me ,but for my kids. Eu is a non elected gravey train for failed politicians. Not surprizing its a mess. As for getting residency in Spain , we have found the process relatively easy . Yes, you have to jump through a few hoops ,but thats just the way it is here in Spain. Loving it here .
🇪🇸 😅👍
I doubt your kids will have £40 grand in the bank or in assets to live in Spain.
Failed politicians. You mean like Farage.
Failed politicians. Like Farage.
Done it for your kids 😂
You're clueless as to the future 😂
I used to visit Spain a lot it became a routine, but since brexit I have really enjoyed countries outside the eu the last few year's I've been to the USA Australia Israel Thailand and the cost is so reasonable now, I can't see me ever going back to before, there are so many fantastic other countries to visit
Thats quite sad because Spain 🇪🇸 such a lovely country
These rules were the same here in the 1980s and 90s we had to fill forms in and hand over passports for the police to check & wait a few days for the return of our passports. Too many was here off the radar and still using UK reg cars here and never took the Spanish licence or residence here . Brexit supporters accepted the change.
Yes but we were in the eu …they were very lapse on the rules
so they were not enforced
Thanks for a great update colin as always. “ i hope your keeping well ? coffees comming your way soon. i hope to buy you a coffee when im over in march regards from your ole pal phil in loughton.
Sounds great! Thanks 😅👍
Given Ireland is obviously not part of Schengen but in the EU, how long can an Irish passport holder stay in Spain? Think carefully now, no tyre kickers please
Wow
They were given bo information to explain the problems 🤷
rules are rules. Votes are votes

Left after brexit. Never been happier
I voted remain. Now l'd vote leave. The behaviour of the EU during covid frightened me to death and as for economics the EU will have to face a reckoning before the UK does. Still..... I have an Irish passport. 👍
Dont come to EU,stay in england
@sidneypedroso3415 l'll go where l want, l've an EU passport. 😁
And to stop free movement!!!!!!
Finally we found one benefit of Brexit; UK immigrants are going home!
🤣
Personally I see the Spanish tourist industry & economy is gonna suffer with all these new rules in the short term, and brits will find new countries & continents to visit - Question, what other EU countries are adopting these new regulations where you have to give out OTT personal banking information as a requirement for entry?............. is this the start of the demise of the European union project?
Think people will realise all countries and the uk are now tightening up aswell with visas and permit cards something we will all need to get used to the world 🌍 changes all the time with new rules
Yes if you think brexit was bad watch the EU self implode far right having a massive influence all over EU as far as Spain the weather will be catastrophic in the long run and they know it😢😢😢
@@whu58 , If you keep up with the EU new rules, much of what is happening is being applied to all EU member countries. Although each EU nation has some rules that are specific. Spain and Portugal have both had their best ever year in 2024 and as the news services have been reporting, over tourism in some areas has resulted in local protests. I can't see much changing though as holidaying in Spain and Portugal is always going to be popular as it is blessed with great weather, easy to get to and value for money. Plus of course it's not only Brits that holiday there.
The British have been saying that Spain would sink without them for 50 years. The Spanish economy, after five years of Brexit, is the one that is growing the most in Europe and that of the United Kingdom has been in decline for seven years. End of story. The British are not special, and Spain, in addition to tourism, has many economic sectors that are functioning at a good pace, renewables, marine, chemicals, furniture industry, defense, automotive...
I work in the travel industry, plenty of other nations come to Spain and will fill any hole left by the Brits 👍
Hi all , I’m retired fancy buying holiday home in playa flamenca got up to 200k for an apartment . Would you recommend it or what other area on the Costa Blanca would you recommend looking at . Thanks 🙏
Yes, definitely nice area
RENT if you can no one especially British expats make money in Spain and Murcia good luck just look at the security at the Malls WOW 😲
Try some towns a little off the coast like Pego, for example, where the cost of a house is about 40% cheaper. The Denia area is nice, but visit before you buy. There are some beautiful places on the Costa Blanca, but there are also real depressing dumps.....
Captions are always better in plain English
brits out and stay out please
Brexit in name only. Worse than ever.
Thankfully we managed to aquire an Irish passport which enabled us to get a residency number which we did in fuerteventura.
Soon to be leaving the uk ASAP. At the moment life's FANTASTIC. TBH we're mainly in fuerteventura for the majority of the time.
🇪🇸👍
Brexit could have been great for the UK as a country (and still could be) if it was done properly. 🎉
However as far as free movement and living abroad for citizens it was a disaster or at least far more difficult and expensive.
Yes 🙌🏼 I think people were voting to leave that had holiday homes in Spain didn’t realise what was exactly going to happen ..now it has affected these people 😩
I am glad there is not free movement for Brexiteers like you.
Plenty of freedom for me I can stay where I want when ever so I think you are wrong 😂😂😂 I can return to uk 🇬🇧 I’m a Spanish resident as well 🤔
Tell us how it could have been done properly? Km4089.
When his the Etias coming in thanks.
Very soon looks like it’s planned for June
We never left the EU if you can find me the signature of the agreement i will believe you until then we are still in it.
Real.
Idiot
Lets all go to Gibralta instead
Brexit... Wahhhhhhhhh
Wahhhhhhh USAID.. Wahhhhhh
😢😢😢😢😢
if we had a government that did what the will of the people wanted we would of got a different brexit, how could we have a remainer doing our talking against the eu, madness, we still havent left yet, as for 3 houses for the cost of 1 uk property colin, i see you never went past watford gap to see the difference in property price's between the north n south, enjoy your walk
Even in the midlands and Yorkshire £90K is more or less the cheapest I can find at auctions and that's a fixer up & probably needs £20K minimum for fixing up.
Firstly I didn’t vote I. Was in Spain 🇪🇸 I’m giving my opinion people never got what they voted for and mostly Brexit was a immigration vote ..you buy places in spain as cheap as €15,000 of course will not be a palace …of course average house in the south £350,000 depends location can be a lot more 😳
@@paradiseworldvideos3859 . I didn't vote because I felt it was for the UK residents to choose . I supported Brexit due to the damage the EU did to the midlands and northern industry and pits and cheap foreign migrant labour taking the low skilled sector jobs from young British people. They are happy with the outcome now & have decent paying jobs with full contracts and affordable housing.
"Minerals in the air", you mean dust? 🤣🤣

Not true about the euro exchange rate I’m afraid, I can remember when it was nearly pound to euro and that was before brexit please get your facts right before you say things.
Wow making statements when you haven’t got a clue what you are saying telling me I’m wrong when I got €1 42 to the pound uk was strong 💪 but now it’s weak as anything hence why the pound against the euro is bad 😂 you 100% wrong I I got 142 before Brexit 😂😂😂 you need to get your facts right then Brexit came along it feel sharply … 1.36 1.28. 1.18. then at one stage it was literally almost £1. For €1
We were getting 1.52 euros to the pound back in 2004 but you're correct in stating it went up and down quite a bit even before Brexit. It wasn't very good around the crash of 2008.
Makes me laugh when people tell you get your facts right we got. 1:42 in 2015 before Brexit then some bright spark wanted to vote on leaving the eu …the rest is history the pound crashed 🤔
@@paradiseworldvideos3859 The euro/pound in exchange rate in the summer of 2018 was 1.13. Just when I was purchasing property in France.
