- Alicent Hightower has played a pivotal role through the House Of The Dragon series, I mean it's made totally obvious just how influential she is. However in today's video we’re going to take a look at the book fire and blood in order to discover Alicent’s fate, basically everything that happens to her. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read the book or aren’t aware what the outcome of the dance of the dragons is so here’s your warning..
She may outlive just about everyone but she’s going to wish she hadn’t

@@dotsdot5608I honestly don’t I had sympathy for her in the beginning especially with her father pimping her out but the moment she had power she refused to do anything about it until Otto suggested slaughtering rhaenerya and her family that is when she put her foot down not before hand that is when my sympathy flew out the window and when she was working with larys.

She basically dies alone, her whole family dead and she goes into a hysteria hating the color green and wanting to see her children again. after all the stuff her and otto did all for nothing, causing the excitation of dragons and almost causing the fall of house targaryen.
Agree. She'd have been MUCH better off if she just let Rhaenyra be queen. Most, if not all, of her children and grandchildren would probably be alive. If I made that big of blunder, I'd go crazy too.

I kno some fans gonna hate me but I don’t blame alicent for the war she just did what she thought was right by puttin aegon as king even tho she was wrong for doing that I just feel like this war should’ve never happened in my opinion I love both sides green & black they both have good characters on both sides and great dragons

Alicent's biggest fear came true. All of this wouldn't have happened if she hadn't pressured Aegon to take the throne and challenge Rhaenyra's claim
She was afraid for their son's lives😢
That was the biggest problem with the Greens, they never knew when to stop. That’s Alicent’s children died and her father was remembered as a traitor and her son as a usurper. She outlived them all and suffered alone.
Except they weren’t. Rhenyera was considered the usurper and even her short six month reign was wiped from the history books

I feel so bad for poor Helaena. She was truly innocent. She only did what her family expected of her. If they wanted a son for a son, they should have gone after Aemond.

I think the show will do something different with Jaehaera’s death and they will have her die a bit sooner while Alicent is still alive or they might make Alicent live slightly longer for her to hear the news that her last living descendant is dead. I think that will serve as one symbolic poetic justice of what scheming can cause devastation to your family. I think that the final death in her family will truly break Alicent and make her realize that her and her fathers plan did not come to fruition and it cost the lives of her loved ones. Because after the war, she was locked up and spending the rest of her days in Maegor’s Holdfast because her allies had turned on her and her son Aegon. She was in captivity because Tyland Lannister, a Green, wanted protection for the new regime of Aegon III, a Black. She died completely powerless than she ever was and she would have to bear the thought that even though her son wouldn’t have been the king of westeros, at least he and the rest of her children and grandchildren maybe would have been alive had they let Rhaenyra just ascend the throne without conflict. The show should defintley let Alicent still be alive during Jaehaera’s death becuase that would be a lot more poetic and hard hitting to watch that final domino of your family die in front of your eyes. And think about it the war completely decimated the entire Green faction within 4 years 129AC-133AC. So the Greens, in my opinion, definitely did not win because their goal itself was not to make sure that everyone goes by male precedent, that was just their main weapon of legitimization of their claimant Aegon to take the throne. The real ambitions of Otto and Alicent were for the Hightowers to become more powerful through the Targaryen-Hightower line to rule the Iron throne forever. The Dance of Dragons was all about the battle of the bloodline. And they completely lost that goal because thanks to their plotting their line was decimated within a pathetic 4 year timespan and Rhaenyra’s bloodline triumphed but at a great cost because the dragons went extinct but the blacks at least prevailed over the Greens and their personal pursuit of the dominating bloodline.
So the Blacks won? I always thought the Greens did. Ok, now I'm confused. I haven't read the books, only watched the show, ans read some stuff online.
@@elibell19The blacks ultimately win due to Rhaenyra's son Aegon lll, getting the throne. In the end, the greens have no army and a huge northern army flying no colors but Rhaenyra's on the way to destroy the green remainders. The hour of the wolf occurs(Cregan Stark passing judgements) and all but 2 go to the wall. Clubfoot is executed, but I can't remember who the other was. So in the end, the Blacks win, but the new king hates dragons and the last of em, they basically die out during his reign. Can't blame him though.
She tries to do the right thing but is so consumed with bitterness of the supposed betrayal when rumors started of Rhaenyra and Daemon slept together, when they didn't. When Alicent found her former friend did sleep with Criston Cole, she didn't ask 'anything' about him, just with Daemon. SO her bitterness is delusional. Glad to hear her father was beheaded, as he's the Tywin Lannister of HotD. I think as she knows what her son is already like, flashfoward when he becomes crazy, she's gonna b part of his assassination to save the kingdom before it gets worse.
Crazy how she was upset at the uncle - niece combo but not the ones of her own children sibling marriage 🙃

in her tv show adaptation i feel really sorry for her, she's like 15 in the first part of season 1 and she's made to have sex with a man probably three times her age and get pregnant almost instantly, break her relationship with probably her only friend and getting manipulated to do all these things by her FATHER growing to be kind of a bitter woman but still having her family only for all of your children and grandchildren die in horrific ways, almost all her life was defined by trauma

The average marriage age at the time was the late teens to early twenties and most people married others in their age range, not someone obscenely older. Such a notion is a historic myth.
@@liafbaby7791Absolutely. And the way the showrunners depicted Alicent as knowing nothing at all what happening around her makes my blood boiling. A 15 years old girl not an 7 years old girl. She knew what was Otto plan. She knew what could happen If she serially attending the King in his bedchamber. Maybe she was young to understand how s*x is working, but the society norms and hierarchy, etc. indicating even these kind of matters too.

She claimed to want peace between families but in the same breath she hurt Rhae by basically saying that she shouldn't be so upset because the one who got killed was simply a bastard child which apparently means he wasn't worth much. To be honest I actually don't know what Rhae did that was so bad for Alicent. When she married her father, Rhae was still nice to her and caring to some degree. She only got rid of Otto, but he did indeed plot against the king, wanting to plant his daughter already to the previous king. The worst crime she did was actually just being herself and overusing her power, yeah, but she did never openly did anything to Alicent. The lie about if she had slept with somebody was sadly, but a must for Rhae and understandable. Alicent was the most hurt by the bastards and the fight between the kids, but it's not like Rhae ordered it. And then it is Rhaes son who dies first.@@ninshu412

I felt sorry for her (in the series) up until she gave that poor girl that her own son assaulted money and moon tea as if that would erase the trauma she endured.
What else was she supposed to do? This is based on medieval Europe, not modern day America.
Great video, when I first started watching the show I really liked Alicent and felt a bit sorry for her but as the show went on I saw her jealousy and yes her righteousness and i started disliking her. She heard what she wanted and I believe deep down she was also power hungry. Thanks for sharing your time with us and keep the good work going 💕💕

I feel as though its important to mention, that the show and books are different for a reason.
The books are what the Maester's wrote, and therefore, the winners. We can see the Maester's are incredibly biased, and are willing to lie when documenting. Its the history the people ultimately know.
But, the show is what truly happened. Its an unbiased truth of the dance of the dragons, and what the people wont ever know.
The show, therefore, is more cannon than their bookish counterparts.
And its only fair to compare the books to them, not them to the books
They also lied in favor of the greens multiple times . It's not about "the winners" considering both sides objectively lost

Imagine if Otto, you know, just didn't marry Alicent to Viserys. He was already a rich and powerful lord. Had Rhaenyra and Alicent's friendship remained, Otto would have kept an honorable position even if Corlys or Rhaenys eventually replaced him as Hand. He knew the danger he was putting his daughter and future grandchildren in, and he willingly risked it all.
Kuz that's what power hungry people do
Keep the peace with a lie, or go to war over the truth type of situation. Like it or not, The Iron Throne can not be handed down to bastards.

Why doesn’t the show make sense and Rhaenrya and Alicent’s relationship and dynamic and core of conflict seem so stupid is because in the books or chronicles of the time it was clearly stated that this two women did not share a grain of care or love between them.

With Rhaenrya living in dragonstone with Leanor and later with Daemon since 115AC only froze more the relationship between Rhaenrya and her haft siblings. Allowing alicent to poison Aegon, Helaena, Aemond and Daeron against their sister. Consider Rhanerya was already a mother of 2 by then with Jace being 1 and Luke just been born. While Aegon was 8, Helaena was 6, Aemond was 5 and Daeron had just been send off to old town with less than 2 years old by alicent.
When Viserys finally died alicent went all out. She put her 23 years old plan in the making. Took her 10 days to gather her green Lords which she had been collecting since Aegon was born, and prepared Aegon’s coronation which she had also prepared for the past 23 years.
So when Rhaenrya find out she wanted to go and kill them all. However, the show also Change that it was Daemon who convince Rhaenrya to not use the dragons on the greens to try the envoy. That is why he left for riverlands. However, after Luke was killed by Aemond. Rhaenrya wanted to give up but Daemon send her a raven with the word “an eye for an eye and son for son. Luke will be avenged” Daemon send for Mysaria who was in KL and hired blood and cheese.
When the greens capture blood with Jaehaerys head still in sack. Blood mention they were hired by the white wyrm “lady misery”. Mysaria flee to dragonstone where she remain until the fall of KL then she return to the red keep until her death.
Then the war fully escalated. Alicent tried mid war to try to stop and maybe even divide Westeros into two but Rhaenrya have lost too much and she wasn’t killing come to settlement.
This two women hated each other.
Alicent died regretting what happened to her kids not what happened to Rhaenrya and hers
I just wish someone would give her the biggest wake up call known to man and I hope it will be rhaenyera to give it to her especially when she comes to kings landing and takes her hostage rhaenyera needs to tell her the truth and she needs to hear it and perhaps a slap for her children slaughtering rhaenyera’s regardless of if it was an accident or not. The target she placed on her family’s back the moment she helped crown aegon.
For someone who caused so much unnecessary death and pain, Alicent got off rather easily instead of dying a brutal death like she deserves.
