Very thorough review! I have a Osprey Kestrel 38l. Weighs 1500 grams, so the G4-20 gives more capacity for considerably less weight. I'm a warm-weather multi-day hiker - this will be my bag of choice this coming summer. Thanks for your review.
To be fair I think you overstated how small the bag and zippered pocket are. It appears like a small pack but I can get a weeks worth of food and all my gear to go into the Sierra ...including a bear can. the small or large bear vault. The pocket that also seems small carries a one gallon ziploc folded in half with ALL of my ditty gear. The only thing not in it is my 600 ml cook kit and my trowel. It carries a lot and it carries it well. I should qualify a "lot"...I don''t carry over 25 lbs...usually 23 with water and food. The sit pad pocket is awesome and provides structure. I switched it out for the more versatile foldable 1/8" pad. The long side pockets are my favorite - they perfectly carry the days food in a stink proof bag or a 3 liter bag of water for the long carry. I really enjoy it. Theres enough room for your stuff...but leave some of it home. cheers
Hi There, just picked up this pack a week or so ago. My walking pals swear by it. Its previous owner didn't know what to do with it. I packed it today and as you say, it will take a few times too get it just right. But already I know it will be a fine addition to my backpacking days. Coming from framed packs the floppy nature of the GG G4-20, will test my grey cell, but I am up to the test. It was interesting to hear how it faired in the hoolie, you encountered. Dry bags will be the way, if only one used as a liner, but that tube passage at the top may need some sort of modification. Thanks for the video, enjoyed your insights.
It’s much harder to - the secret with these kinds of packs is to keep the content so light that that sort of adjustment is less necessary. It has to be part of a whole gear strategy, really.

Really thorough and helpful review! 👍
Thank you very much - really glad you found it useful!
Helpful. Very keen on the backpack
Thanks! It's definitely one I can recommend.
Without load lifters can you still adjust for load and comfort?
