  • In 1990, I was living in Milwaukee and working with Harley-Davidson as a subcontractor riding new H-Ds for 500 test miles before putting the bikes into their demo fleet. One of the jobs they sent me on was to ride the soon to be reintroduced 1991 Sturgis model, a revamp of the original in 1980, to “star” in a dealership promotional film. I flew to Rapid City, SD where I met the film crew who was keeping the bike completely under wraps. It was supposed to be a secret mission and the bike was to be seen by as few people as possible. We kept the tank emblem covered with black electrical tape when we weren't "working". We filmed all over the Black Hills, in Sturgis, at Mt. Rushmore and lots of other locations with lots of great roads to ride this awesome machine. Over 2 days of filming, we ended up with 12 hours of footage, of which about 3 minutes were used. I’ve attached the video here if anyone is interested, although you can only tell it’s me by the flapping pony tail. The video got a little shortened at the beginning due to having it transferred from a VHS tape.
