My best guess is that a lot of people love the Phaze II and the Ion Pro is similar. I would bet this thing is a hybrid and will fit nicely into many people’s bag.
The core numbers are much stronger in the max, as well as a much stronger cover. The pro is a benchmark while the max is an oil monster. Think phaze 2 vs GEM

It's a big solid asymmetrical, they're not remotely close to in terms of performance. A max and a pro would be a good combo.
