    Honestly, Matt is the most honest player I’ve ever seen when it comes down to straight criticism about his game. That’s what I like about him the most, it can be something as small as the positioning of his feet, it just shows how mature he is as a person and a footballer.

      It's because of the formation- by nature when Charleston plays a 4-4-2 they'd want to compact their midfield 4 to get a 4v3, and obviously that leaves the opposing fullbacks, which is why Matt was defending both at times. Spare midfielder still should've rotated over though

    US Soccer seems to be regressing as time goes on. If you look at a pass made at (@2:51) there are 2 main choices for the player to make. There is the completely obvious undefended choice to his 2 o'clock position, and the horrible choice nobody should ever make. It doesn't take long to realize he chooses the worst pass. It kind of makes you think aside from running and kicking there seems to be no awareness or soccer intelligence in US soccer.

    • @CoachOlali
      @CoachOlali 2 года назад

      In some instances I agree but i think it's more of a function of this coach choosing the wrong players. Just my opinion. There's a lot that goes on behind the scene in choosing a player. I have seen some good American Players and to be fair a number of them are playing in the top leagues in the world and doing pretty well. So it looks like improvement to me

    That sequence at 8:12 is giving me a headache. There is no drive to penetrate their lines. Tones of space that is not being taken advantage of. The left back had so much room infront of him to exploit to also provide more space to the center forward dropping in. The positioning of your wingers and full backs is way to central in my opinion reducing the space in the middle of the pitch.

    I like Matt's pragmatic and simple yet effective play. He does all the basics well, and has an ever so good reading of the game, therefore he is very good at anticipating the next play or the best option to take.
    I feel now, in order to evolve his game, he should some how open up his mind, and take the stress out of his game and become more of an artist and visionary on the ball. He needs to up his confidence and become more of an artist 🎨 on the ball. Develop that X factor where he can set up play in 1 touch, move or killer pass/cross. He has it in him I know, because his passion and dedication is second to none. Good luck Matt, u have taught me heaps.

    Matt, not buying your admittance of it’s your fault 🤔. Yes you could have just held him up , but look at how many times you were overloaded on your side.( most likely by design) From what you showed there needs to be more shifting from your other backs to help fill gaps and not have you dealing with numbers up . Understand what you are saying but guy was tricky and team tactics should have recognized it and redirected how to rebalance it. Your still a fantastic player 😁💪

      That’s true but regardless he came in hot with the second tackle without needing to. He just had to contain him or pressure him outside until reinforcement came or at least stall the attack a bit. It is what it is, he’ll do better next time just as the coach will correct his tactical analysis after this loss.

    As a referee agree with your assessment of the foul in the 19th minute. Pretty soft for this level. Great self-awareness on understanding that you've come in for extra attention from the crew, and that's what likely helped to lead to the 1st Caution. Your self-assessment on the 2nd yellow is great! I’m about to have my first tryout for a pro academy and I want to do every single thing I can to make them like me. What types of things should I say when I’m introducing myself to the coach and how should I play (as a striker)?

    • @CoachOlali
      @CoachOlali 2 года назад +5

      Every single coach has their own biases and preferences. Your style may be perfect for one coach and useless to another coach. Many times before a coach goes into a season, he is not looking at every player as their own entity but rather how the player can fit into his vision. You could be the best player he has to choose from but if you don't fit his vision, he won't see it. On the other hand, you may in actuality not be a standout player in a tryout but the coach picking players thinks you are perfect for his system. You need to play striker the way you know how to play. Is there room to improve? Of course. But don't change your entire way of playing because you think it will work. If you are a decent human being then there is no reason to overthink how you introduce yourself. I have seen standoffish players make the cut and players who are friendly to everyone not make the cut. From my experience, how you introduce yourself has no bearing on whether you make the team or not. This is professional sports. At the highest level, personality is secondary. BUT do not think, what should I do for them to like me. That is a mentality flaw. You play your game. Do you think Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi were thinking about changing their game to see if a coach liked them? Hell no. They were so confident in what they could do that they knew they could provide value to the team. Playing in a way to make people like you makes you hesitate and second guess your decision making. The fact is even players like De Bruyne and Mo Salah were not thought to be the top product that Mourinho thought they should be when he let them go.

      In reality it's never too early to start. Around your mind 20s, your body stops recovering in the same way it did when you are in your teens or every early 20s. From what I heard, Lebron started applying healthy nutrition when he was in high school. But everybody is different. There is no way that you can be told what's good for you when no has even had a talk with you to determine your habits, injury history, lifestyle, etc.

    Just by watching this, I can definitely play at this level or MLS level. My composure and skill is beyond the players here. Just stating, no hate at all. Good video though

    Your winger bearly gives you any protection through out the clips. Your have too much to do in my opinion while he sips champagne and walks around, I don't think I saw him sprint, some winger huh

    That number 19 on your team needs to learn how to cross/kick the ball. His first cross for your team's goal is very poor and then his second cross a few seconds later is actually kicked into the ground for some reason.

    Matt your such a smart defender. I had a game on Thursday and an I'm a WASA soccer team the highest level in their, level A. How can I get though a defender like you

      Good point. In isolation on that first yellow, it would not be given. Ref was sending a message.

      That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying how do you get to defenders like that because I bet CR7 and Lionel Messi will destroy him.

      @@mrmicheal2030 My opinion: Matt is a very good open field defender. You will not beat him with speed down the line. Your best chance is to get him in tight and fake a cross, then probably cut in since he is right footed.

    First yellow was crazy soft. Second was a yellow for sure. Got to be a bummer sitting in the locker room after that.

    Maybe it was karma for the soft foul and exaggeration against FC Tulsa which got Da Costa a red. Keep your head up you got plenty of season left.
