Back with another video! What do you think about Beyoncé going country , especially in relationship to the historical roots of country?🤔 comment down below!
Well if you go way back, she isn't the first surprisingly. And I wish people would stop being racist. I don't listen to country but my grandparents do. I know all the artists almost and songs. They can get racist sometimes. It's never been my thing. If white people can do hip-hop, black people can do any genre too .
Why is it WILD ??? STICK TO REALITY !!! If a Latino made a country hit record.. They would be the First Latino to ever........ THE REASON THAT HASN'T HAPPENED... IS BECAUSE IT'S NOT REALLY A LATINO FAVORED GENRE OF MUSIC !!!! IT HAS NOTHING TO DO RACE !!! THEY WAY YOU ARE IMPLYING IT ! STOP VICTIMIZING YOURSELF ! ITS DISRESPECTFUL TO REAL ACTUAL VICTIMS !!!!
@@vapingfastbreak5629Racism is so ingrained in them as a people. Black people welcome Eminem, Post Malone, G-Eazy, into a genre that these artists had no hand in but we can’t step into “their” genre which they also didn’t create.
It sounds to me they’re scared of black people realizing their right to the genre , hence the gatekeeping and trying to keep black artists in the hip hop/ RnB genre …. Which Is being topped (Accolades wise) by white/ biracial industry plants …. So like camryn said.. “black people cant have nothing” 😂
Cowboy culture IS Mexican culture. The vaqueros were indigenous then white ppl stole it so that’s why it’s funny when that article said it’s not just ‘white culture only’ as if they invented it. Whenever I see someone in a cowboy fit I always compliment them by joking they look ‘chunti’ (word Mexicans use to be racist towards other Mexicans for being too Mexican like they just got here. I heard it so much in school growing up in LA lol)
@Ichijou_Matsomoku308 it’s just a word chicano or the more white washed mexicans would use to make fun of mexicans who be more mexican like foos who look like they just crossed the border in the way they dress or talk nstuff ya know just internalized racism tings idk if it is still commonly used I just heard it a lot in my schooling years through the 90s. I like to use it as a confusing compliment though towards white ppl in cowboy boots like I’m saying they look hella authentic I’m not being mean or nothing lol /g
@sparklefairy34 while they were indigenous men I believe the Spanish imported the horses so there is euro colonizer influence in the lifestyle ok so maybe white ppl did invent it jk nah let’s just say it was a collab lol i hope an actual historian don’t see this no wait I hope they do so they can info dump some more accurate knowledge to drown out the sound of my ancestors turning in their graves at my ignorance
For all the talk about The Chicks. Many people have forgotten that by speaking out against Bush and The Iraq War, they suffered a backlash in country music that might have even surpassed Janet Jackson’s after the Super Bowl.
Much of the hate so call Country Music fans gave Beyoncé CMA performance has as much to do about The Chicks being at a country music event in over a decade and many people still wouldn’t forgive them for speaking out against Bush and The Iraq War.
@@CamrynSuzanne I love your channel, you should definitely check out Naomi cannibal, she’s good too. she uploads similar content to yours, she even uploads her unpopular opinions. She’s actually the same age as you.
ive always suspected that the dixie chicks cancellation was less about what they said about bush and more about payback for ruclips.net/video/2c5b8ZtjwwY/видео.html . when that song was released to radio the chicks were so big that radio couldnt just ignore the song they had to play it and they never forgot. radio started that backlash and promoted it tirelessly it was not something that just happened. just my opinion and im usually wrong.
Bruh, if the rumors are true, I can't wait for Bey's rock album. I like me some country and chile, the whitewashing of rock music is also a big thing. As a black person who loves rock music, it's been sickening hearing stuff that it's "white people music" and that the black rock artists don't get a lot of push. We need to reclaim those spaces and let people do quality music in peace.
I just ran into a sis yesterday who was super exited about a Tool concert she had just bought tickets for. As a fellow rocker, I was like,”OMG, are we besties, now!?” 🤗 Love meeting sistas who love rock as much as I do!❤
For me, as a singer, myself, who is white with Cuban ethnicity, I think it is so important and super cool to see white musicians give black musicians their flowers and support them. I aspire to sing more Jazz music. A lot of my favorite singers are black women. Their contributions to music are so important.
I’m ngl, I’m LIVING for the backlash from Beyoncé performing at the CMAs because the racism and ignorance are so loud. There’s no running for the bigots anymore and it brings me such intense pleasure. Also the irony of the person that commented about lack of respect to Dolly who is famously progressive.
These people are mad because they know when Beyoncé enters any category the bare minimum that they do can no longer be done. Also mediocrity is highly supported with a certain group of people 😂 They think we do too much because they do so little and get snaps and praise for the something as simple as “omg she wrote a song” “omg she has a little rhythm” “ omg she can sing on key” as if there aren’t a plethora of black artists WRITING, SINGING,DANCING , and PRODUCING. But again because they always do too little they don’t like a mega talented person being in the same realm as them because it means they have to step it up or cry about “things changing” and “the good ole days” ( we all know what that means ) . Funny enough the same people who believe in Freedom of Speech are mad when people exercise that right because it doesn’t align with their beliefs….
A word!!! They know Beyonce is going to be top notch. She always brings her A game. She’s not mediocre by any means. So it absolutely would make them uncomfortable
I’m a white guy, not American, but I gotta agree with you. Black artists generally display excellence in their work. I’ve always been fascinated by that. :)
Country music 100 years ago: "I hate working in the mines and want to *redacted* my boss" Country music now: "I love consuming products and think people should just obey authority"
Right, and most people complaining abt changes in country like more artists of colour, are the people who dont understand the history of it and love the capitalism-fied and modernised version of it.
@@rebeccassweetmusic4632 i hate hate HATE HATE the latter theres no lyrcis, also more than that, whatever meanings they have are just going wldnt it be nice to go back to a fictional past and its so odd
I used to absolutely jam to some Reba McEntire or Shania Twain and that's basically the only country music I've ever listened to and I live in Tennessee😂
I'm excited for Beyoncé reclaiming country. I'm not a huge fan of the genre but I've certainly dabbled in it. I used to check out Faith Hill, Reba Mc Entire, and Billy Gilman CDs from the library when I was in middle school. The best part is it shining light on other Black country artists who have been here and not getting recognized.
Yes! I’m not a huge country person by any means. For a long time i used to say i “hate country “ and i think bc of what it had been equated to in the mainstream. However, there are a lot of talented artists that will hopefully get more recognition based on this beyonce country genre shift
The country music industry is racist, Another example is when Shakira released a song with Blake Shelton and she got a lot of hate (from country fans) country fans criticized her for being Latina and singing a country song
Well, country has latin roots from northern Mexico, Vaqueros(cowboys) came from Andalusia in spain, Anglo-germanics were the ones who adopted it, like those genres have always been popular in México. Now from Colombia idk
@@CamrynSuzanne this is how black people should be, I think. Them doing it for a genre they didn't create is what's bizzare, but black people should've hogged their genres in the first place so this wouldn't have been happening. But we can only learn from the past now.
@@SideEyeee_ It has been scientifically proven that race does not exist in human beings, which is why several countries have abolished this denomination, which is only maintained in some countries, usually deeply racist
Not the biggest fan of country but the backlash is real. I think Bey was expecting this and is pushing the needle further for such discussions to be had. After all why shouldn't she? There have been white artists entering predominatly black genres such as hip-hop or R&B that haven't faced this much criticism. Settle down yall
I gotta disagree. White artists or ones who mainly appear white in person do face a lot of backlash and negative criticism in predominantly black music spaces. Hip-hop, rap, R&B, blues, etc.
@@JoyEmpress in person you won’t but online you’ll hear so much about even from the folks who grew up loving and listening to Eminem. It’s crazy yet laughable. 😂😂
Black radio needs to support black female artists who sing diverse genres of music, including Country. We’ve always relied on white powers that be to do the right thing. That’s the issue. They aren’t obligated to give credit, promote, or support black artists…although they should, considering they take so much inspiration from black sounds, style, lingo, etc. to spice up theirs. Ultimately it’s up to black radio and media to start promoting ALL kinds of black artists (not just ratchet rappers/singers) and create their own Country station/categories in order to compete.
Honestly it saddens me that these issues are still happening in 2024. I just don’t understand the push back. Like you said if you don’t like the music or feel the need to comment about the music…keep it at the music.
Growing up as a pocho (mexican by blood but was not raised on culture/language), there is so much I missed out on in my own culture, but now that I'm older I've realized how much I've lacked in black culture as well. Black people are just awesome is my main point lol.
Yes yes! Please celebrate smaller artists. My faves are Yola (the best performer I've ever seen), Brittney Spencer (just released an album), Reyna Roberts, Sunny War, Allison Russel, Amythyst Kiah, Madeline Edwards, and ofc Priscilla Renea (Muni Long). Thank you for talking about this!
In my opinion Daddy lessons was one of the best songs on the lemonade album and still mad it wasn't nominated for a country award. I feel like people don't say much when Beyonce is snubbed because its 'Beyonce' but at the end of the day situations like this have deeper issues like how black people aren't excepted into certain music genres and are encouraged or shoved into one box like RnB. We see this with Rhianna and how many times she was pushed into the RnB box but many of her song where also pop.
And the reason that we are shoved into one box is our fault. Now I know there are MANY other black musicians who don’t do Rnb and rap, but if you look at most of all the black artists in history a good 80% or more do rnb and hip hop. So of course were going to get shoved in that box if alot if black artists don’t purse other genres. And bravo to Beyonce for trying.
@Manhattan384 Black music has always been eclectic and versatile. The black artists of the past that I listen to fall into the categories of rock, disco, and funk. Tina Turner (she has been widely accepted a rock artist. She makes rock music! Yet, what are her albums labeled under? R&B 😭😭😭😭), Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, the Brothers Johnson, Donna Summer, Linda Clifford, Kool & The Gang. Let’s not forget that black people created the banjo (which is mentioned in the video). Prince and Michael Jackson created pop and rock music (Eddie Van Halen even played the guitar riff featured on the track Beat It). Michael Jackson is labeled as the King of Pop, and yet his albums are usually categorized under R&B and he’s always on the R&B station for some reason. Sister Rosetta Tharpe, a black woman, is credited with starting rock and roll, too. Let’s not continue to box black people into the R&B and Hip Hop genres when that has never been the case. Sincerely, a black female rocker.
@@Manhattan384 No I agree but its not fully our fault, as we see with Beyonce when black people try and pursue other genres they receive large amounts of backlash, the song wont be excepted into the genre even though it qualifies or aren't even give a chance. The thing about RnB and Hip hop is that they are predominately black so its much easier for a black artist to break through rather than other genres like country where the listeners are predominantly white and wont even give the song a chance and what makes it ironic is that black people played a huge part in developing the genre.
@@georgieporgie6103 but are those ALL the black artists ever to exist? No, like i said, there are many black artists who dont do r&b or hip hop, but out of all the black people who have ever done music from all generations, a majority are hip hop/rnb i wasn’t saying all.
I don't listen to a whole lot of Country music, tbh. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of vocal twang. However, I do like Carrie Underwood, Dolly Parton, and Reba McIntyre. I especially love Dolly because she can cross over to other genres and broaden her listeners. She did a Beyoncé thing too by releasing a rock album and collaborating with a lot of iconic rock musicians. In terms of race-relations, there's a clip of her performing a little ditty with Patti Labelle on her show where they did some old Southern song called "Shortnin' Bread." She and Patti also did the nail thing with her hands. I thought it was so cool. Carrie Underwood and Reba McIntyre are such Country vocal badasses to me. They have more hints of rock in their Country sound
I love Dolly! I also have a few Carry Underwood songs on my playlist. I used to love Kenny Rogers as well. I like all kinds of music. If it sounds good to me I’m for it. 😊
Yes omg, never a country girl but I did like a little bit of carrie underwood! Dolly is a legend 🙏🏽🙏🏽 i also liked a little bit of t swift when she was in country which is so funny bc i’m not that big on her music now.
I've always found country kinda boring. I can't help but think how fun and exciting the genre could be if black artists were allowed to display their talents.
I always think about this mashup on RUclips a few years back (back when mashups were the hot thing) and it mashed up a ton of pop country music songs and it was hilarious how they all just talk about the same things: beautiful girls that wear jeans, their pickup trucks, country music//America, God - it’s super homogenized.
I’m a person who doesn’t really like or dislike country music. If I hear something and I like it, great! If not, oh well. I wear what I want and do what I want. That includes listening to whatever I want. I’m a 43 year old white chick. I don’t currently hate anyone. I don’t know how I’ll feel in 10 years, or tomorrow for that matter. I think it’s ridiculous to pass judgement on someone or something without ever knowing anything about it. I’ve pretty much always been a mellow hippie-chick who likes at least a little bit of everything. Even though I wasn’t a Destiny’s Child fan, I did enjoy a few of their songs. I’ve never had a problem with Beyoncé’s voice and I do like her country songs. I’m only saying this to you because no, I don’t think that only certain things can be done by certain people. Excellent video! I really loved how it was so unbiased and based on intelligence rather than judgement. Great job!
I honestly love work ethic and dedication to her music and how she can be so versatile with her talents and yet still remain respectful and pay homage to her roots, breaking the colour barrier of genres that black artists are shunned out of
I used to avoid country music entirely but I came across Buckle Bunny by Tanner Adell last year on tiktok and now I’ve been willing to give black country artists a chance.
Hey! I found your channel today and I’m obsessed! You’re pretty chill, you don’t endorse “hate” and are nice to the commenters! So, you’ve just gained one new sub.
I am actually really really hyped for Beyonce to go country. And I have heard people say that she shouldn't consider it renaissance act 2 (or part 2) because it's a different genre but I honestly think she did that for a reason because otherwise she would just be making an extension of renaissance, you know? Also Camryn amazing, amazing job on 20k subscribers - youre growing so fast, and when I subscribed to you you only had 7k, thats crazy! great work :)
Yes some people have a theory that each act is expanding on certain genres, particularly genres black people helped pioneer. Soo may act 3 will be rock👀 also thank you!! We’ve been growing like crazy. I appreciate your support ❤️
Honestly, I understand that African Americans influenced country music. But the more I delve deep into the history of it. It sounds more european than african. The black influence is definitely there. And this is important that more and more people get to tell that part.
Kudos to you, Ms. Camryn for putting together a well-researched and informative podcast regarding the subject of the “country controversy.” I had some already existing knowledge confirmed and also was introduced to several other new pieces of information that I will take forward in my life journey!! Well done, young sister! 👍🏾❤️✊🏾
Most black people are raised to feel insecure about liking anything other than hip hop R&B and gospel. Mostly hip hop. Black people help made it difficult for black people to make it in country. A lot of the black people i know, front when it comes to music. Behind closed doors they like a little bit of everything. In public they only listen to hip hop. As a black male, I'm judged by othe black people, for publicly listening to anything other than hip hop. I like southern music infused with other types of music.
I like music that sounds good to me no matter the genre. I don’t know if it means I’m secure, but I like what I like … and I don’t care what people think. 😊
some artists i listen to and really respect in country are kasey musgraves and kelsea ballerini. both of them have spoken out on issues and have definitely received backlash for bc it “doesn’t fit the mold of country music”
The Pointer Sisters won a country music grammy in the 70s they also had two ither country hits Nelly has had country hits Country music now uses hiphop break beats
I just read that Dolly Parton says Beyoncé might have a cover of Jolene on her album. Dolly says she’s excited about it and very supportive of Beyoncé. I just thought I’d share the information with your channel’s community.
I’m a 22 year old black guy who grew up in the deeeeep south (Mobile, AL suburbs) and I want y’all to know how much country music is loved by POC in the south. It’s ignorant from whites to think that this is just theirs (same for mainly black genres) and the way black people think it’s weird to like country and tease us for liking it. Country music feels like home to me, just as much as r&b does to my identity. One of my best friends who grew up 5 miles from me that I didn’t meet till 3 years ago in college is a first generation Indian, and she and I bonded extremely quickly through our love of music, and country was one of these main connections. Country is a distinct, emotional, fun, cozy, and intense genre that is kind of hard to replicate, and to be any to LITERALLY “build a wall” and not let black and brown artists do something they contributed to is in the most simple of words, prejudiced.
Thank you for speaking on this from your perspective on this being from the south, i’m from MI and i think it’s not common for black people (at least here), to listen to country. I think a lot of us have seen country (mainstream wise) become so attached and intertwined with politics and conservatism especially as of late, that it’s off putting. I realize that it’s okay for us not to like it (as a personal preference) but we don’t have to run from country. There’s i’m sure some excellent artists who just wanna make the music
@@CamrynSuzanne my grandpa used to listen to country 24 seven in his truck when I was a kid, my older sister, who is 12 years older than me grow up, listening to tons of country music in the 2000s, and I myself as a little kid growing up in a mostly white hometown also grew up loving country music. Aside from my deep discussed with conservatism, especially when it’s not used correctly, country really is just a way of life down here, just as much as southern rap and blued that originated in the south are. Not talking about country, but you’d be surprised how many whote kids I grew up with also listened to black blues, southern rap, etc. so even though yeah, there is a history of racial slights in the south, I think unless you grow up here, you don’t realize we actually apppreciate each others “cultures” a lot, and ofc music is one of the most universal things in human existence. NOW. That racist radio station thing and the idea that black artists are never really that big (at least aside from a few songs) is a whole different story, but that’s music politics, but in terms of real life people, I know a ton of black adults and kids my age that listen.
I’m just excited that pop girls like Lana and Beyoncé are doing country cause Beyoncé is a country gal and Lana has been working and came out so many country songs and a full album is sooo exciting I will miss there pop eras but it’s exciting cause they both have beautiful voices that work with country .
I forget the whole name of the woman but the original singer of “you ain’t nothin but a hounding “ popularized by Elvis is actually a black lady named Big Momma Thornton. Please look her up and let others know about this as well. Thank you for this 👍🏽
Growing up, my dad was the one who was a huge country fan. I remember listening to it because of him, but I definitely tried to veer away from country when I was younger. I listened to every genre except country. But as I got older, I started to understand why my dad loved it so much. He grew up poor and working class so I guess I associate country with the working class and suffering more than strictly white people. Working class and suffering applies to every race. And I think that’s why it resonates with so many. But thanks to Beyoncé, I do feel like I’m finally embracing that part of me and I hope her country music makes others do so.
Thanks for adding your perspective! It’s so interesting to see everyone’s point of connection on the genre. I think a lot of perception on the surface of country past and present has been linked to politics and conservatism that for outsiders of the genre (like me), tends to intertwine country with that. It’s helpful to hear how other people perceive it and consume it
Love the video! Just one small correction the Chix didn’t bring out Beyoncé to perform, she actually brought them out. Just some context because that was the narrative the CMA was trying to put out there after the negative backlash when she performed to soften the blow from “country fans” and direct some of the anger to the chix. The Chix later explained they weren’t invited by the CMA but that Beyoncé was invited and asked them to perform her song because they were already performing at their shows as fans of her and the song.
New here. I really like your research into the topics you cover and personal insight that you share. I had a country phase from 2008-2011. Sugarland is a great duo. Jennifer Nettles voice is beautiful; highly recommend Stay which is one of my favorite songs of all time. The Civil Wars is another duo that is amazing to me. They’re kind of a blend of folk and country. Finally, Chris Stapleton is one of the only country artists whose discography I follow. I need to dip my toes back in the southern waters
I love musical theater and old country music for the same reason, storytelling. Its such was a big part of growing up black, in the deep south. The segregation of country and blues is a fascinating history that I'd love to see you make a video about.
I am not american. I was suprised to know that this is her first country song. Because she uses the" cowboy" looks for long I assumed that she had music in the genere or with some influencies.
Oh, a lot of us slightly older folks remember the backlash when The Chicks spoke about being embarrassed because they were from the same state as the president at the time, George Bush. They had been one of the top selling country music groups of all time up until that comment, then completely black listed. It really was BS and I’m glad they’ve made peace with the situation and their song not ready to make nice was a great response to the entire situation. I am of two minds with the Beyoncé thing. As we’re finding out all these dark secrets coming out about her and Jay I’m losing some sympathy for her but I have a hard time not loving her because of nostalgia. I’ll always remember the glory days of Destiny’s Child and her first few solo albums. But girl, it’s really hard to look at all of it the same now that so much truth is being exposed.
Hi Queen! Some Country recs: Maren Morris is DOPE. Not only is her music good, but she always goes to bat for black country artists...actually her next album is intentionally not going to be Country because she's tired of the conservative culture of the genre. Chris Stapleton is also an incredible guitar player, vocalist, and his music is a mix of country and real blues/soul. He also went to bat for Beyonce at the CMAs. Finally, Kane Brown's song "Heaven" is a beautiful country pop song and he's had probably the most success out of the young Black Country artists. I LOVE both Beyonce songs....Texas Hold Em is a BOP and 16 Carriages is a beautiful country-SOUL ballad with fantastic vocals and great lyrics like you said. I always say Country and R&B are sibling genres. You can take a Country song and make it a dope R&B cover and vice versa. Plus a lot of Southern R&B has clear country influences...Anthony Hamilton being a prime example. Both R&B and Country stem from Blues and both genres depict sorrow so-well while also serving top-tier vocals (Taylor Swift not included...no shade). Anyways, I love how thorough the research in the video is. I'm also glad Beyonce is making the racists big mad and I'll be laughing all up until the album release and tour. Keep up the great content!
Thank you for this!! So maren morris is about it. I added her speech at the 2020 awards and it’s nice to know that she’s pivoting to protest in a way. This comment has a wealth of information!!
hello from Germany! i saw a bunch of your videos and really enjoyed those! idk if this is your type of content you are making (im to new here to make me judgement) but i would love to see you make videos about maybe more historical pop culture moments. im not really knowledgable in this field and i would love to see more. also i would love to see you evaluate german music/pop culture. i think the german scene has gotton a bit sleepy? stale? i cant find the right word but i think that would be a great and more funny video to make !
i forgot to mention germans love to show the world their country, habits, culture etc. and they watch this content "intensly" (also not the right word but i hope you get the point) especially when it comes from content creators outside of germany! a good example is James Bray
I will definitely consider this! I really love taking a look at the past bc it explains so much of why we are where we are today in music. I also don’t have much knowledge of german music / pop culture, i’d love to be more well versed in more of the international music scenes
I grew up in GA & was a teen in the 90s when all the genres were tossing bangers like beads at Mardi Gras parades. We were a diverse bunch, thanks to the military base close by, & be in the locker room belting R&B, pop, country, rap, rock, grunge, etc. I also grew up playing the piano, so I always had a deep love for female singer-songwriters from every genre because that was my closet dream. I sang a lot of Tracy Chapman and Reba in midwest divebars in my 20s, lol. I always knew that stylistically, country would've been the easiest thing to get into, but sociopolitically I had better odds of acceptance from growing a tail. So, seeing Guyton, Chapel Hart & Julie Williams on the scene, then Chapman win her CMA was a huge deal for me. Beyoncé doing country made my heart nearly explode, because I know she's a pioneer and a lot of little black girls will be able to live out the dream I couldn't.
I could understand why people dont like the Beyonce songs. I like the new songs but i know nothing about country music. But i didn't like the hate of her going to country.
Some songs which should have been on radio 📻 in country music. 1983 Dexy's Midnight Runners. C'mon Eileen. 1991. A. Bryan Adams. Hey Honey! I'm Packing You In! B. Tom Cochrane. Life Is a Highway 🛣. Now. The Beyonce album. She is from Texas. She knows country music. That album IS country music. The country music industry needs to widen its catalog. It misses out! 🙄
I live in Brazil. Here there is a genre called "sertanejo". Before it was used to express about the lives of people who lived in rural areas and faced problems involving drought, poverty, etc.; But after agribusiness started investing in the production of its own country music, the songs became commercial and no longer deal with the social issues of small producers. The songs nowadays talk about drinking, betrayal and are pure propaganda to support these landowners... that's sad There are films portraying the rural exodus and the lives of these residents; "Vidas Secas" is a good example
It’s crazy to me how much people fought for diversity, how much we fought for expression and how much we now fight to keep it all separate. Country music fans don’t like anything new, never have😂 I get sooo much crap for listening to “Hick Hop” and it’s still “country music” ✌️💋from Texas
It's cool that she's doing something different, she's been doing her thing for a long time. My issue: these outfits are too sexual, more so than some of the leotard type costumes. She doesn't need to do this. It's giving " click bait", switcheroo, pusherman, get em hooked energy.
when i heard texas hold’em for the first time, and her voice over that guitar, my first thought was: NATURE IS HEALING!!! So beautiful. I hope she does more, in fact it would be really cool if she and the husband and kids all got together and sang Carter Family tunes (ie. June Carter, Mama Maybelle etc.) and called it ‘The Carters Sing the Carters’ (i’m sure they’d come up with a more clever title 😅)
Music is music and should just be entertainment along with a form of expression. Let’s be for real, it’s due to race because it’s been said that country music is White people music and it’s been said hip hop Black people music even though it’s untrue. A Black person listening, liking, and singing country music shouldn’t even be taboo or strange. If you like country music that’s fine and if you don’t like country music that’s fine as well there’s some good artists while some are just unfavorable. Music shouldn’t even be something that’s grouped up based on race and those who do that to be honest have tiny brains.
from country to classic rock to sports to spiritual/religious practices we've been excluded from our own creations and mocked for liking anything beyond the assumption

Ever notice how colored hair large lashes and wild nails were considered ghetto until a non black person started doing it? Ever notice that our hair was considered inappropriate and gross and unproffesional up until a few years ago when we had to PASS A LAW to make it illegal to discriminate because of hair?

My family says that she isn't doing "real country" and she is copying Taylor Swift Even though black people invented country music... (they invented pretty much every genre except classical orchestra music lol) Ngl TEXAS HOLD EM and 16 CARRIGES sound wayyyyyyy better than the new white trash bull-shit that plays on the country radios (not saying that there isn't good country music they just don't play the good kind of modern country classic country has some good songs)
Seee that’s crazy, Beyonce trying to copy taylor?? 😭 maybe theres some politics going on behind the scenes but to me Beyonce making country isn’t a huge shocker. Same way tay was able to transition to pop , bey should be able to go into the country space . I think it’s so refreshing that she wants to do something different at this stage in her career, expanding her artistry is dope
At first I thought she was just doing it for that Album of the year 😂, but I am glad that she used that opportunity to also bend and redefine country or at least present it in beyonce way, as well as bring other country artists of color, to the spotlight. Good for them. 🤩
Great video. Like you, I like all genres of music. I agree. The story telling in country music is amazing. I was introduced to country as a kid. Bonnie Rait. Two songs I would suggest of hers. Something To Talk Aboit & I Can’t Make You Love Me. The latter has been remade by a few artists. 16 Carriages had me hooked. Texas Hold ‘Em is cool too. I lobe how everyone is creating line dancing to it. It’s sad that a country artist who happens to be black, can’t celebrate and enjoy country music and be celbrated. Our history is being erased because it’s showing that whites don’t have much. The history they do have came from other races and they claim it as their own.
Why do people, especially black people, feel like they have to defend Beyonce to the death? At what point did Beyonce become the voice and image of black womanhood? Because it really feels that way the way her stans and the black community have to constantly defend her. If Beyonce chooses to stay quiet over issues regarding her music and awards, then why do y’all, Kanye, and her husband have to speak loudly on her behalf to defend her? She’s one of the richest and most successful singers ever yet y’all still treat her like she’s an underdog and the voice for you.
@@CamrynSuzannei think she would tho, im black and see all her points, shes calling out all of our victim mentality, and how we always see ourselves as the underdogs, despite being the top of the top of dogs (whatever the hell thats means😂)
Trust, you’d be surprised how many of us see what you’re saying. This video was not a good look and the amount of commenters who seriously think that solely black people created country music when it was a fusion of black American, white American, Irish and English music just goes to show how little research these people do. As for Beyonce reclaiming country… black country singers have always existed. There is a lot of ignorance in the community, and it’s so disappointing that with how easily accessible the internet is people are still choosing to be ignorant. I’m a black woman saying this.
I'm sure you already know but Jolene THE ALBUM (1974) by dolly parton is like the greatest country album of all time and i love it a lot (and she's not racist! ) big recommendation (in general Dolly's 70s albums are good recommendatios too) even The Grass Is Blue (the album) from 1999 from her, it's so sad but genuine !!
I do believe that black people created the banjo. What I don’t believe is that any of them got on a slave ship with one in order to bring it from Africa. It definitely didn’t go down like that 😂
U forget that some of those slaves could have been craftsmen who created instruments from Africa in America instead of bringing the actual instruments over here.
The banjo was originally made from a gourd that grew in America which slaves used to create the banjo. You can see pics of it online. Gourds weren’t sturdy so later on the banjo was crafted into a guitar like instrument. Another tidbit is that country music back then sounded different than it does today because country music today is a fusion of black and white American influence, and celtic and English influence. It’s a mix of blues, white gospel, and ballads.
Nelly has also been in country music for some time now! Has some incredibly popular songs too. (Ngl I mostly know because it happened when I was relatively young so me and my friends thought it was funny but those songs are bangers tbh, even though I’m not the biggest fan of country music literally at all lol)
Great video once again. I think you should do one covering Kelly Rowland. Cause if you have to Harmonize with Beyoncé and sing the note above her you have to have a powerful voice
Back with another video! What do you think about Beyoncé going country , especially in relationship to the historical roots of country?🤔 comment down below!
The fact that it’s 2024and we’re still getting “the first black ____” is just wild to me!
Right!!
Black people dont listen to country music
Well if you go way back, she isn't the first surprisingly. And I wish people would stop being racist. I don't listen to country but my grandparents do. I know all the artists almost and songs. They can get racist sometimes. It's never been my thing. If white people can do hip-hop, black people can do any genre too .
Imagine Asian people with Oscar grammy and everything first in stadium too 👀
Why is it WILD ???
If Post Malone can change genres whenever he wants Beyoncé sure as hell can too
Thank you. I don’t like either but Be can out sing Post in any genre. These really showing their racism.
Beyoncé featuring post malone on her new album is such a win, and so unexpected 😭
@@vapingfastbreak5629Racism is so ingrained in them as a people. Black people welcome Eminem, Post Malone, G-Eazy, into a genre that these artists had no hand in but we can’t step into “their” genre which they also didn’t create.
"on a mission to take country music away from us hardworking white people" this is so funny 😂😂
Crazy right 😭😭
It sounds to me they’re scared of black people realizing their right to the genre , hence the gatekeeping and trying to keep black artists in the hip hop/ RnB genre …. Which Is being topped (Accolades wise) by white/ biracial industry plants …. So like camryn said.. “black people cant have nothing” 😂
The call is coming from inside the house 🤡😂
🤔Just like they stole rock& roll, hip-hop, r&b, and the blues from us???
This made me picture a South Park redneck character saying, "They tuk er jobs!"
I think two truths can co exist, it’s only became black culture because integrated slaves had to live that cowboy / country life
exactly it's all stolen like always 😂 it's always hilarious when white country folk find out "their" precious culture came from vaqueros
Vaquero came from Spain. You god damn fool!
That is soo insane to me😭 they said nothing wrong
Yea it was bad
Much of the hate so call Country Music fans gave Beyoncé CMA performance has as much to do about The Chicks being at a country music event in over a decade and many people still wouldn’t forgive them for speaking out against Bush and The Iraq War.

Same!! A rock era would be dope. It’s hard for me to picture but i’m 100% down
Fingers crossed for that rock album. Feel like its gonna be heavily Tina Turner inspired (post-Ike post-Motown era)
I wonder what type of rock music Beyonce would even do? There is so many sub genres that she could go in.
I just ran into a sis yesterday who was super exited about a Tool concert she had just bought tickets for. As a fellow rocker, I was like,”OMG, are we besties, now!?” 🤗

Me, too. This is one instance where I am here for forcing people to deal with our presence. Country doesn’t “belong” to them.
We ain’t….going nowhere😂
Yeah it was sooo incriminating and sooo loud, the problem was brought to the surface in such an obvious way.
Went to a rodeo here in Western Maryland, saw several black families enjoying their time and a black cowboy Bull Riding. People need to have a seat.
Yup. It’s crazy how so many people are surprised given the fact that a good portion of the cowboys/cattlemen in the 1800s were black.
“they think that we do too much bc they do so little” BARRRRRR. hit the nail right on the head !!
Preach!

Country music 100 years ago: "I hate working in the mines and want to *redacted* my boss"
Country music now: "I love consuming products and think people should just obey authority"
Country in the 60s and 70s: F*ck fascism and corporate America
Country now: we love beer and we respect authority

I used to check out Faith Hill, Reba Mc Entire, and Billy Gilman CDs from the library when I was in middle school. The best part is it shining light on other Black country artists who have been here and not getting recognized.
Yes! I’m not a huge country person by any means. For a long time i used to say i “hate country “ and i think bc of what it had been equated to in the mainstream. However, there are a lot of talented artists that will hopefully get more recognition based on this beyonce country genre shift

Exactly! They did that to Xtina too back in 2010
@@lessismore8533 eh that's different
The country music industry is racist, Another example is when Shakira released a song with Blake Shelton and she got a lot of hate (from country fans) country fans criticized her for being Latina and singing a country song
Well, country has latin roots from northern Mexico, Vaqueros(cowboys) came from Andalusia in spain, Anglo-germanics were the ones who adopted it, like those genres have always been popular in México.
Now from Colombia idk
It’s like the genre is being hogged, they are so critical of gatekeeping and i hate that!!
@@CamrynSuzanne this is how black people should be, I think. Them doing it for a genre they didn't create is what's bizzare, but black people should've hogged their genres in the first place so this wouldn't have been happening. But we can only learn from the past now.
But Latina is not a race. Asian-Latinos exist, Afro-Latinas exist, Indigenous-Latinos exist and so on…
@@SideEyeee_ It has been scientifically proven that race does not exist in human beings, which is why several countries have abolished this denomination, which is only maintained in some countries, usually deeply racist
Yess i think this was supposed to be the catalyst for a bigger conversation and it needs to be had
I gotta disagree. White artists or ones who mainly appear white in person do face a lot of backlash and negative criticism in predominantly black music spaces. Hip-hop, rap, R&B, blues, etc.
@@RalphJr-xp3hp i have never heard any black person where I live complain about Eminem. Can't say much about everyone else
@@JoyEmpress in person you won’t but online you’ll hear so much about even from the folks who grew up loving and listening to Eminem. It’s crazy yet laughable. 😂😂
Not only white musicians are able to enter black genres swiftly and smoothly. They succeed!!!!! Why can’t the same happen for black artists?!
It’s so unfortunate, it’s music like…let us participate fairly. That’s why we need to speak up about it more and more to generate change
Growing up as a pocho (mexican by blood but was not raised on culture/language), there is so much I missed out on in my own culture, but now that I'm older I've realized how much I've lacked in black culture as well. Black people are just awesome is my main point lol.

Daddy lessons was an excellent song, the people who got it, got it
And the reason that we are shoved into one box is our fault.
In terms of race-relations, there's a clip of her performing a little ditty with Patti Labelle on her show where they did some old Southern song called "Shortnin' Bread." I’m a 22 year old black guy who grew up in the deeeeep south (Mobile, AL suburbs) and I want y’all to know how much country music is loved by POC in the south.

I forget the whole name of the woman but the original singer of “you ain’t nothin but a hounding “ popularized by Elvis is actually a black lady named Big Momma Thornton. Please look her up and let others know about this as well. Thank you for this 👍🏽
Yesss! I actually knew that. Definitely is not common knowledge though
lemme just say girl you look soooo beautiful and im so happy your channel is getting so popular. you're on your grind and its paying off fr
Thank you so much!!🥺🥺🥺
“Preferably someone not racist” sent me 🤣
Growing up, my dad was the one who was a huge country fan.
It’s helpful to hear how other people perceive it and consume it
This video is so good that I subscribed to your channel (after enjoying a lot of your videos before seeing this one)! Keep up the great work! 👑✨🥇💐🎉
Thank you for subscribing 🥹
Love the video! Just one small correction the Chix didn’t bring out Beyoncé to perform, she actually brought them out. Just some context because that was the narrative the CMA was trying to put out there after the negative backlash when she performed to soften the blow from “country fans” and direct some of the anger to the chix. The Chix later explained they weren’t invited by the CMA but that Beyoncé was invited and asked them to perform her song because they were already performing at their shows as fans of her and the song.
Okay okay thank you for this🙌🏽
Well, I didnt have a "Beyonce Country Album" on my 2024 bingo card, but Im here for it.
Love the PSA!
I had to!! I already know the angry’s will be waiting 😂
oh i’ve been waiting for this one 😌
It’s here!! Gonna shake the table with this one
Thank you!! I may check some of these folks out. Never quite went through a country phase but I liked some songs from here and there
I love musical theater and old country music for the same reason, storytelling.
She had daddy lessons!! On lemonade
@@CamrynSuzanne oh thanks I'll check it out.
Thatnks for the history leason
Of course 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Maren atp is my favorite country artist. Once is a beautifulllll song.
@@lrgcokewithlemon I love Once
hello from Germany! i saw a bunch of your videos and really enjoyed those! idk if this is your type of content you are making (im to new here to make me judgement) but i would love to see you make videos about maybe more historical pop culture moments. im not really knowledgable in this field and i would love to see more. also i would love to see you evaluate german music/pop culture. i think the german scene has gotton a bit sleepy? stale? i cant find the right word but i think that would be a great and more funny video to make !
i forgot to mention germans love to show the world their country, habits, culture etc. and they watch this content "intensly" (also not the right word but i hope you get the point) especially when it comes from content creators outside of germany! a good example is James Bray
I will definitely consider this! I really love taking a look at the past bc it explains so much of why we are where we are today in music. I also don’t have much knowledge of german music / pop culture, i’d love to be more well versed in more of the international music scenes
I don't really like country music, but this was an interesting and informative video.
Thank you!
Ooooo this is an interesting topic :)))
Yes!! I felt like it’s about time we talk about the real issue. I think people dance around it
Some songs which should have been on radio 📻 in country music.
The songs nowadays talk about drinking, betrayal and are pure propaganda to support these landowners... that's sad
There are films portraying the rural exodus and the lives of these residents; "Vidas Secas" is a good example
Let's go 🥰 can't wait to watch the video
Hope you enjoy!😊
@@CamrynSuzanne and l did 🥰❤️ thank you for the video, great job on the editing and quality off the video, and you're makeup 😍
It’s crazy to me how much people fought for diversity, how much we fought for expression and how much we now fight to keep it all separate. Country music fans don’t like anything new, never have😂 I get sooo much crap for listening to “Hick Hop” and it’s still “country music”
✌️💋from Texas
Texas hold em is growing on me!! It’s light, it’s fun, it makes you wanna move. I really enjoy it
Music is music and should just be entertainment along with a form of expression.
It’s soo messed up, like how we end up getting excluded???
@@CamrynSuzanne what people like to call the Mandela effect? I've seen videos where ppl find evidence that some popular Mandela effect claims are false. I think they're testing to see how much history they can rewrite without us noticing
I have to STRONGLY disagree, stop victimizing us, we have ALOT of things already. We need to stop acting like everything was taken from us and everyone hates us. Its a very negative mindset that I wish we would all shake off.
@Manhattan384 you strongly disagree with the FACTS that country music and classic rock were invented by black people and then popularized as a "white only" interest? You strongly disagree with my life experiences of being a fan of rock & alternative just to be called a coon and a fake black girl and to stay in my lane??? You strongly disagree the FACT that I'm PERSONALLY Being admonished on a monthly basis for my skin that...& I need to stop "ACTING" like ppl dislike me because of my skin?
"We have" things they "let" us keep. Ever notice how most "accepted" black depictions are us suffering or doing bad in media? Ever notice how colored hair large lashes and wild nails were considered ghetto until a non black person started doing it? Ever notice that our hair was considered inappropriate and gross and unproffesional up until a few years ago when we had to PASS A LAW to make it illegal to discriminate because of hair?
@@Manhattan384you must be so immature if you think ACKNOWLEDGING BAD THINGS HAPPENING TO US means that we have to lay down and cry about it. we can acknowledge unfairness. we can acknowledge when we are slighted. we can acknowledge when things are taken from us. and we can STILL keep moving forward. your life must be so repressed and sad if you think acknowledging bad things NEEDS to mean wallowing in them.
My family says that she isn't doing "real country" and she is copying Taylor Swift
Even though black people invented country music... (they invented pretty much every genre except classical orchestra music lol)
Ngl TEXAS HOLD EM and 16 CARRIGES sound wayyyyyyy better than the new white trash bull-shit that plays on the country radios (not saying that there isn't good country music they just don't play the good kind of modern country classic country has some good songs)
Beyonce is more country than Taylor will ever be please ✋🏾 She’s from texas
Taylor swift ain’t even from the south. She’s from Pennsylvania 😂.
How would she be copying Taylor Swift when Taylor hasn't made a country album in over a decade?
How could Beyonce copy Taylor Swift when she's Texan? This is her culture and upbringing. Country is black culture.
At first I thought she was just doing it for that Album of the year 😂, but I am glad that she used that opportunity to also bend and redefine country or at least present it in beyonce way, as well as bring other country artists of color, to the spotlight. Good for them. 🤩
*Cough cough* H.E.R performed Hold On with Chris Stapleton at the CMT awards in 2021 😅 *cough cough*....
my question who is still calling in to the radio station to play a song? lol i had no clue this was still a thing
Thanks for sharing!!!!
Awsome video
Thank you!
Tbh I wanna hear sza vocals slay the kuntry house down!!! 💖💖💖
honestly at first i didnt like texas hold em but with a few more listens i really got use to it 🤭💅
No frr! it’s grown on me because it is so infectious, feel good.

Bc of what she represents. Talented, hard working, pride in her roots…. You wouldn’t get it idk
@@CamrynSuzannei think she would tho, im black and see all her points, shes calling out all of our victim mentality, and how we always see ourselves as the underdogs, despite being the top of the top of dogs (whatever the hell thats means😂)
No I don't care about her it's everything for her only her kid who can't sing have a Grammy 🙄
I'm sure you already know but Jolene THE ALBUM (1974) by dolly parton is like the greatest country album of all time and i love it a lot (and she's not racist! ) big recommendation (in general Dolly's 70s albums are good recommendatios too)
even The Grass Is Blue (the album) from 1999 from her, it's so sad but genuine !!
but be careful cause you can kinda get bored listening to her whole 70s albums if you're not really into country music, but those two are great :)
This made me want to get into country music
Lady Gaga has some good country songs on her 2016 album Joanne I'd recommend giving it a listen if you haven't already
As a loyal little monster, I completely agree. 👍🏾 I think that Joanne is the most underrated album period.
I haven’t heard em yet! I will take a listen. Gaga is such a talent.
I do believe that black people created the banjo. What I don’t believe is that any of them got on a slave ship with one in order to bring it from Africa. It definitely didn’t go down like that 😂
I don’t have all the answers on that but there is historical evidence that we were exclusively playing in the US initially
This is like Michael Jackson on MTV all over again
Yep
Country, blues, jazz, rock and roll...all from black origin

Great video once again. I think you should do one covering Kelly Rowland. Cause if you have to Harmonize with Beyoncé and sing the note above her you have to have a powerful voice
I will look into doing that!!
