The issue with hostels is not the government's fault but rather the university itself, especially legon. The school gives their land for a short lease for private investors to build and after the short period, the hostel now becomes university owned. As a private investor, you wouldn’t make much profit on your investment at the time you will hand over. That is why investors are not interested in building hostels in legon. So even if the government says it wants to build hostels too, the same arrangement will take place because though the university belongs to Ghana, it is a separate legal entity. Unless renegotiations come in. So promising free level 100 is more realistic than free SHS. Remember it's not the whole 4 years in school but just the 1st year. At least, parents can use the tuition fees they were to pay to add up to pay hostel fees since that is more expensive. If free SHS for form 1-3 was possible, this is more than possible and a good initiative. It will also encourage more people to pursue further education.

Removing taxes on betting is the same us removing taxes on stocks /futures/commodities trading, they are all classified as capital gains. How does any political party ever think of abolishing such taxes? There is a combined 37 - 40 % tax on lottery and other capital gains by federal, state and local government levels.
If it should be like it's going to be hostel's for the universities, you'll be the same person to come and sit here talking instead of him to invest into people's education he is using Ghana money to build hostel's, why are we? Hunting myself.
