The piston in that auto tensioner is not moving at all once the 14s are torqued down, the auto tensioner only comes into play while you're tensioning the belt during assembly.
The Obd2 H22 14mm nut is keeping the balance shaft wheel staying foot at the same time it allows the timing belt wheel to free float and auto tensioner applying a tension on the belt. That's the reason l like using obd1 H22 manual tensioner. Once l set the tension and secure the 14mm nut, its all set.
@@cbdreamer1709 Downside of it would be overstretching the belt, putting too much tension but for someone that know what they're doing it'll be good. Alternator belt is a good example. When we tightening a alternator belt, it's a hit or miss. If you didnt put enough tension, it makes some noise on start up, so we always making it tight to prevent it from happening. If l ever have a block w/ auto tensioner on it. I'll switch it to obd1 style because of simplicity adjusting and l dont have to guess if l did it correctly.
Hey could you please link me to a gates obd1 h22a timing belt kit with the manual tensioner I cannot find it anywhere all I have seen is prelude 92-01 with auto tensioners.
The obd1 t/b tensionet doesn't come as a kit on Gates timing belt. It's seperate items. I just checked hondapartsunlimited website and lucky for us that Honda still sells it. The obd1 tensioner is under category of a Prelude Si w/c has a H23a1 non vtec version and if your block is 97-2k you'll be needing all of these items. IPc # 18,19,26,30,27. #20 and 24 are optional, bolts can be buy at auto parts. You can also use tensioner from F23 block. Hope this help, lmk, l dont mind making a blog for it.
@@sagittnet2158 so are you telling me the obd 1 h22a still has the auto tensioner and u can convert to this h23 style manual tensioner thanks Edit: please verify this for me
@@hserieshooligan1997 l know that 92-95 H22 have manual tensioner. I forgot to add up, you need item #10, it's the adjuster balancer wheel for the balance shaft belt. It's different than the h22 obd2 setup. The difference is the thickness of it that act like a spacer, so the timing belt and balance shaft belt wont interfere on one another. In case you want to use your b/s system still.

Obd2 H22a4 timing belt auto tensioner is almost same concept of the serpentine belt tensioner. The timing belt wheel free float. We just can't see it because there is another wheel that seat in front of it w/c is the wheel for the balance shaft. So it appears that both stays securely in place when the 14mm nut is torque down.
I got the KS Tuned tensioner👍🏼. Yeah I’m guilty of going from 5th to 3rd lol but I try rev match it lol.
you better start practicing my friend hehehe! If you ever go turbo, your'e all set, your engine will love it.
How do you set the timing? Do you have a guide?
I have it on "H22 stroker final build", it's a t belt instal w/ obd1 belt tensioner.

Didn't know this
So which one is better? Hydraulic or manual tensioner?
For me it's the obd1 manual style tensioner.
Is that the stock oem part? Is it like the ks
What would be the downside to running the ks tuned one?
