Several years ago, I had an inspiration the night before my grandson’s 4th birthday. He was in Congo (where my daughter was an embassy official), and I knew we would FaceTime during his party. I had done the thumb tip silk vanish for him many times while he was stateside. I’d always ask him what color the silk was, and then go into the routine. The finish was always him asking where it went, and me pulling it out of his ear. As we logged on, I told my daughter to get a white tissue, and to follow what I was doing. After singing “Happy Birthday,” as expected, grandson asked me if I could do some magic for him. I started by showing him a tissue (instead of the usual silk), and went through the usual patter. When it vanished, he asked “where did it go?” At that moment, my daughter pulled a tissue out of his ear... and he fell on the floor laughing. Adding new technology to a very old trick was a winner.
The "sweet and low" trick is originally a Richard Osterland trick he's been doing for decades although he is mainly known for mentalist, but it is a fantastic trick that I've used many times to great reactions. That Slydini thumb steal (I didn't remember as his) really throws off people who do already know about the thumb tip and the usual method. There is another trick called "tipless" developed by a Scotsman, embarrassed to say I can't recall his name because he is a fantastic magician who gives a really cool demonstration to counter those who know of the tip. I'm sure you can find him if you research. The best silk trick with a tip I've seen. But this is from an insiders view, where most audiences are not wise to the tip and won't call you out.
@@magicalmiller you could be right ? Almost no magic is totally original anymore, but based on the giants of the past going back 100’s if not 1000’s of years, though written record is more easily researchable. The principals were discovered and performed long before written record, but RO is known for this particular demonstration.
Love that flash paper with the cigarette vanish. Many people use some other people's clothing to vanish it in. One guy in particular in New York again cannot remember his name developed that on necessity one day and of course it stuck. I've never seen or heard of the flash paper with this and I'm a little passed that I didn't think of it. But yes thumb tips have been used for mentalist = "spirit writer" with pencil lead or grease pencil. Billit switches, Psychic surgery wich should carry the death penalty if used as anything but entertainment. D kites that allow you to move a light from place to place very cool. Magnets within that allow for an insane amount of tricks with one inside. The jumbos are great for liquids vanish and reproduce. I cannot forget my first thumb tip I bought was from a guy at a flea market who was selling yard sale crap but making a lot of noise and I was set up near by and watched him do ten dollar to one dollar switches. Most people just demanded their money back but I kept the one dollar bill and let him keep the ten to show me the trick and he had brand new ones there with him and gave me a quick show how and instructions were inside for the silk thing, but for nine dollars I bought a three dollar trick that has way above given me a return on that initial investment.
I just love that TT effect starting at 6:20 with the handkerchief to the cardbox. That gave me an idea to make a card box that is slightly larger than standard and to have the handkerchief appear from a cardbox that is also full of cards. Perhaps just the white borders on the side of a box could be a fraction larger to fit everything.
I've used a TT forever and that's a long time, not once have I got caught, a few time ive had said to me the same "ive seen similar but they used a fake thumb" i don't even worry about cover, I just always point my thumb directly at centre of the specs eyes, the viewing area is so small that on intense inspection it cannot be seen, try it in a mirrow.
At one of the first magic conventions I went to in the early '80s, a guy on stage did the vanishing cigarette in a borrowed sports jacket. He explained later, that he put small pieces of magician's rope into the TT so it would smoke a little. In performance, he said "Congratulations. You now have a smoking jacket. In a minute it'll be a blazer." I know it's a silly joke, but I got a kick out of it.
Can someone please recommend where I can purchase s good quality Thumb Tip. I lost my good one & have only bern able to find cheap ones that crack & don't last.
Here: store.conjuror.community/?s=thumb+tip&post_type=product The first item is a free book also youc an get about the thumb tip. The second item is the best TT around.
Adding a small piece of aluminium foil to the bottom of the thumb tip you can put a just lit cigarette into the tip and use the patter that you have fire proof hands and let the cigarette smoke for a few more seconds then vanish.the foil protects the tip from burning if your worried about the foil falling out add a tiny bit of magic wax to hold in place.
When I got my first thumb tip as a kid, I read a book on how to use it and a lot of tricks to do. The author said at the start "If you don't have a thumb tip, here's how you can make one out of a 3x5 note card." I was shocked. What? A paper white thumb tip? You're crazy. Turns out he wasn't crazy. 🤷♂️😂
Hey I was wondering if any of you could give me some help I’m trying to find a good thumb tip but I’m having trouble finding one that’s convincing enough to buy I don’t want to wait a week and it be some shit

Well I gave some of these a try and obviously something went wrong because now I’m just sitting here frustrated with my thumb up my ass. Which by the way is one way to actually make the magic thumb tip itself vanish 👍😂 but seriously thanks for taking the time to do these tricks. I love magic and really enjoy your videos and listening to your knowledge on the subject.
Strickland indeed the time to do the Dirty Work and there was more dirty work with the other packet he had to ditch I guess it's a tutorial for a reason so I take back my comment Why did no one else see false backs the original packages I could have done it without the backs but then again I know how to do real magic

Poking your fingers " all of them" in to your closed fist is NOT NORMAL!! if looks stupid , the tt shuld be pushed out with your POKING FINGER after poking maybe twice with ONE FINGER! NOT ALL YOUR FINGERS , AND YOU RETRIEVE IT BEHIND YOUR FINGERS WITH YOUR THUMB, THAT LOOKS NORMAL, this finger poking thing is not good iM sorry ,it just too fishy.

Some good new variations I hadn't thought of. But a very slow beginning. (So much so, that I almost switched off...)
7:59 thumb could be spring loaded then a yank in sleeve and the pre load empty box blue hancurcif. Very nicely done and clean I will say

Nice T n R.
If Aaron listened to the other magicians more, I would've given a like instead of a weird comment. Thanks for the info!
Penn Russell did that handkerchief thumb tip in handkerchief and pull other silk out of it and using a movie story line gone with the wind

For the cigarette vanish, you can put a small piece of aluminum foil into the tip of the thumbtip to keep it from melting.
I'm not sure if it's a good idea to do this..lol...I think you guys perform for too many polite audiences.
Amazing Randi too
