I think Norwegian commercials in general have a higher standard. Partly because of the annual TV commercial awards show. "Gullfisken" (the gold fish), (The name possibly plays on the fish in the TV aquarium used between programs in childhood of broadcasting)
The Grandiosa commercials were earworms. The "Full Pakke" song, even put this in their lyrics. These are translations of a few of the lines. (You can look up the full lyrics, at least in Norwegian) "No other drug matters" "We are in lockstep" "Everyone has been brainwashed"
I can attest to this. Still to this day my brain can suddenly switch on to the "lørdagspizza" song. For some reason it's always the sentence "Lørdiosa grandispizza" 😅
Orkla's factory in Stranda, Sunnmøre, has produced Pizza Grandiosa since 1980. The factory, which was first owned by Nora and then became part of Stabburet, has been part of the Orkla group since 1986. Big One was launched in 1991 under the Stabburet brand . Both brands are today owned by the Norwegian group Orkla.
The original Grandiosa pizza comes with paprika (Bell pepper) as topping. It's a thing in norway that a lot of people remove the paprika from the Grandiosa, so from time to time they sell the "limited edition" grandiosa without paprika. Helmax or Helmaks is a slang in Norway. It basically means "sweet" or "great". The topping "Skinke" is ham. "Lørdagspizza" means "Saturday Pizza" and "Full pakke" means "Full package", "Pizza snurrer" is Pizza rolls, but like cinnoman rolls. It's just funny naming on the pizzas. (Oh and by the way, kebab pizza is fucking delicous)
from what i have seen when i was in America is that many commercials try to sell you the stuff, but in Norway we just anounce whatever the commercial is about
Ah yes. The infamous Grandiosa commercials... A frozen pizza anyone could make in 13min at 225°C on an oven grate placed in the middle of an oven. Very popular for both vorspiel and nachspiel, especially in places where order-in pizza wasn't a thing. Fond memories of coming home from a long day in the slopes, kicking off alpine boots, the smell of Grandiosa all over the cabin, popping an ice cold beer. Good times! Really catchy songs too, with snappy, Norwegian lyrics everyone was singing along to. Songs played at parties, sometimes played when you were out partying to get that cheesy factor all the way up. How I love my fellow Norwegians for this... 0 f's given, everyone enjoying themselves and having a good time. Cheers!
Fun fact about the Grandiosa Pizza song, Lørdagspizza, it blew up that year, and you'd hear people play it in their homes, cars and even on the beach. Was kind of a summer-vibe song, which to me was hilarious. Most of the people my age (30-35) knows the lyrics to this day (I say as i sang along to this one in your video). Love watching your videos AND also stream them for American friends trough discord during game breaks. They find them funny and interesting as well!
My father was the editor of the Norwegian trade magazine for grocers at the time Grandiosa started with the songs. The first one they did was the first one you heard, and it was unheard of at the time. The whole song wouldn't generally play, they'd do short clips from the music video, but the songs, both "Full Pakke" and "Respekt for Grandiosa" did fairly well in the charts, with Respekt for Grandiosa topping the Norwegian charts for for eight weeks, and being downloaded as a ringtone 700 000 times, one million downloads online and 200 000 foreign downloads. Mind you, this was in 2006, so these were pretty decent stats at the time. Norway also has a competition called "Gullfisken", which is basically the Academy Awards or Grammys for advertisers. It means that advertisers sometimes actually make an effort, and I quite appreciate that. The princess one wasn't a real princess, don't worry. Nor was it an ad for pizza. That ad was for a phone provider 😅
the grandiosa songs are legendary, i remember everyone singing them and getting them as ringtones for their phones in the early 2000's. at the time it was almost an event every couple of years when a new one would come out
7:24 The funny thing about you saying that you don't really watch the commercials, is that you have a lot more commercial breaks in America 😅 One thing that used to be really annoying about watching TV shows, was that there would be multiple times during each episode that the show faded out and then faded back in instantly because USA had much more frequent commercial breaks. If I was watching an episode of for instance Mythbusters, then 5-6 times per episode a short jingle would suddenly play and they would start recapping everything that happened 15 seconds ago, because Americans went to commercials constantly.. While I think we only had 1 or maximum 2 breaks in a 30-45 min episode in Norway.
Some of these pizza commercials are really old. Jenny Skavlan the pretty girl in the " Grandiosa full pakke" jingle became famous in Norway because she did that commercial and she is now an actress and she also sew from using old clothes and changes them, I think that full pakke commercial is about 16-17 years as my cousin's son used to go around and sing it when he was around 1-2 years old and we all laughed as it was so funny, he will be 18 next month. Some of the other commercials are also old and those pizza styles are no longer available, I think nowadays there is like one vegetarian friendly pizza and 40 with ham, bacon and pepperoni and beef in different combinations. None of the companies have ever made a proper vegetarian pizza, Grandiosa tried with some pizza a few years back with vegetables on it but it didn't taste good as it was strange vegetables to put on a pizza 🍕. As a vegetarian I would like to have a pizza with tomato slices, paprika, mushrooms and onion and just normal Norvegia cheese, not strange things like artichokes and dried tomatoes and aubergine, I don't like it. Just because I'm a vegetarian doesn't mean I want to have every weird tasting vegetable on my pizza, I just don't like meat, nothing stranger than that. The best would be if they did a classic Norwegian style pizza with vegetarian mince on it, that's what was a normal pizza when I grew up in the 80's (minced meat, onion, sliced tomatoes and Norvegia cheese slices on top, some people used mushrooms just for the kids to pick them out, no one used paprika I think, but some people would put pineapple 🍍 on the pizza, usually those that are old people now as they thought it became a Hawaiian pizza the second they put a pineapple on it. A lot of families started to eat pizza in the 70's and the Grandiosa came up with their frozen pizza, now called classic, was introduced February 11. 1980, but people usually made their own pizza more than they ate frozen pizza, and I remember having Grandiosa pizza in some birthday party as a kid instead of the hot dogs as one girl in my class didn't like hot dogs so I convinced my mother that I should serve Grandiosa instead. )
The reason why our commercials are so long and "well-thought" is because we have our own award show in Norway(Like the emmy-award i think) for just commercials called "Gullfisken(Directly translated: The gold fish)"
Lørdagspizza (Saturday Pizza) was a commercial hit back in 2006, but it got discontinued too soon The full theme song was well over 3 minutes in duration As for "Full Pakke", it came out a year after Lørdagspizza, and like that one, it too got discontinued way too soon. Although, it did got re-introduced not that long ago, but it was only sold in the Rema 1000 stores. Grandiosa is also sold in Sweden, but in a strange fashion, Swedish Grandiosa is the same as our Big One
Even though reklame is boring for me as a norwegian, u make if funny by the way u comment and seems to love to learn about Norway😊🤗 Thanks, and keep posting
The company that makes Grandiosa use a lot of humor to be noticed, because they know that frozen pizza isn't particularly exotic, and it has a reputation for being low quality. They also know that the customers are aware of that, so they're leaning into it, and are basically poking fun at themselves. Some of the people in their commercials are actually well known actors/celebrities in Norway, while others are people that work in their factory. The tunes in these commercials were initially made by a Norwegian musician called Lars Kilevold, and it was an instant success. Kilevold is best known for a song called "Livet er for kjipt", which basically means "life sucks/it's just too much" (I can't think of a translation that covers both the meaning behind it, as well as the actual words). The character in the song is basically explaining that he is a loser with low self esteem, has no prospects in life, he wishes that he would just die, and he drinks to cope. The fact that this guy has also written the most upbeat Grandiosa songs is just hilarious, and it fits the theme of making a huge, over the top production out of something that is really drab, and boring.
The Lørdagspizza ad is long because it is built from a full proper hit song. It is on Spotify and such. And it is still a banger that I sometimes hear people put on at parties. Norwegian commercials tends to be in arcs and in many different time variations. Sometimes they just continue from earlier ads (like you saw in Jarlsberg, "cheese is cheese"). There was definitely broadcasted 30 second ad slots of Lørdagspizza as well.
Oh man, I had completely forgotten about these commercials (thank god). I recently started working with a guy who was part of the team that "relaunced" Grandiose with these songs. I gotta know what kind of drugs they had to do to make these commercials.
Best ads out there are the danish DSB ads with Harry from the 90s and the UK ones with Flat Eric for Levi's jeans in the 90. Or the sauna ones that Denmark had in the 90s in the cinema. The Extra Bladet rising up when the babe inters the sauna.. proving hard ons can happen in a sauna.. 😅
Paprika is not a spice only in Norway, so many do not like warm redbell peppers. We call bellpeppers paprika. The whole thing with Grandiosa its a movement, many people eat grandiose even for Christmas dinner, its a huge thing over here. Yes Pizza is often served on Saturdays when you hang out with family and or friends. American style pizza is referring to thicker crust, as Italian Pizza is thinner crust. So its not more difficult than that :) Big one is another type pizza and not the same ad Gransiosa. Helmax, means the top og the tops remember that Nirwegian words cannot always be directly translated into Ebglish as it has a different meaning often. Example Ekte means real and authentic, but in regards to ekteskap, ektemann, it doesn't mean a real wardrobe or a real man, it is referring to legally binding ekte and it comes from Old Gernman meaning marriage and husband. Skinke = ham Pizzs snurr is a pizza roll and very similar in taste like this. Kebabpizza is just kebab flavoured topping. Just like taco pizza would be with taco flavor and meatball pizza will have meatballs etc - This is cute though,.it comes in parts, Ive never seen this one, I have seen another kampanje.com/markedsforing/2019/02/grandiosa-klar-med-ny-reklamefilm/
"Paprika" is the norwegian term for "Red Bell Peppers". "Paprika" spice is made of crushed dried red bell peppers and variations may have added dried chili peppers. "Paprika" spice can also be smoked, and is then similar to chipotle, but probably with less capsaicin. When norwegians say "Paprika" they mean bell peppers, and when we talk about paprika spice, we call it paprika pulver (bell pepper powder).
5:40 yeah grandiosa is a very popular saturday snack. And about the big one pizzas: They have thicker bases so they're more of a full meal, while most tend to treat the grandiosa as a snack akin to candy or crisps (chips in US).
I think Big One is Norwegian, but the reason they are mentioning America is because there is "American style pizza" (and there is "Italian style pizza"), and they sell American style pizza. American style pizza is when the dough thing is thick and airy, I think it also usually has more cheese, while Italian style pizza is when the dough part is thin (I think it's called thin crust in English), and there is usually less cheese, maybe only a few mozzarella slices.
Respect for Grandiosa was actually a radio hit too, its gone now but was popular in 2006 i think. the short tv version was about 30 sec, sometimes a minute long. the one you looking here was the musicvideo. same with Full pakke . Grandiosa do alot more than others with their commercials. all those grandiosa's you saw here is gone today i think.
While Big One and Grandiosa are strictly two different brands, they're made by the same company, so - yes, we do strictly have a very good frozen pizza selection, but they're all the same producer
at least half of the country's households, probably more, eats tacos every friday and pizza every saturday here in norway! so yes, saturdaypizza is a big thing i norway
The american style is the thick crust style that originated in USA after Italian immigrants brought pizza to the states. So outside the USA, it makes more sense to say Italian Style or American Style, while in USA you have just gotten used to saying Chicago or New York. Another fun fact is that ul until the late 90's and early 00's Brandiosea had no real competition in Norway and was basically the only frozen pizza, so they only had their cheese ham and paprika(red bell pepper) pizza outside of the rare variety. Then Big One came with their thick crust and multiple styles and Grandiosa started having to innovate theirs too.
Paprika = bell peppers. Skinke = ham. Its named classic American cause everything is larger in size/amount on that pizza. Double pepperoni, tripple cheese, bigger crust. Its a saying that «everything is bigger in America/The bigger the better». Here in Europe we say «less is more» 😉
Big One and Grandiosa are both Norwegian brands. Grandiosa was one of the first frozen pizza's locally, and it still is popular because the flavour is half decent. Big One has way to thick and dry base, and never was to my taste. Traditional Norwegian home made pizza from the 1970s was a deep dish pie with minced meat and tomato sauce topped with grated cheese and baked in an oven. From what I've seen it is more like your Chicago style pizza than Italian pizza or New York style. Pizza was usually made from fresh ingredients, and mostly on Saturdays or Fridays. After the influx of frozen pizza in the 1980s, some people eat pizza for dinner several days a week.
When I see these grandiosa commercials now, it hits me that it is strange that there is always so many people on them because I think most people eat grandiose when they are alone...
I don't know about other Norwegian but i make homemade pizza every Sunday. Those pizza in the commercial is too expensive for my liking. normally i buy only on sale. Now it is Mushroom season and i love to pick some and put on my pizza ^w^
It's popular to make homemade pizza on Saturdays. Grandiosa makers of frozen pizza just wants to make it into somtehing fast and cheap. It should be a family thing
"Helmax" is a Norwegian alternative to "Awesome" or "Fantastic" A literal translation would be "Full Max" or "Completely Max" or "Whole Max". (You could interperet is as "as max as it can be")
Paprika means sliced "Bell Pepper". Norwegian commercials are shown much rarer during a broadcast than in the US. So the commercials need to be more impactful. I suppose. As a Norwegian i can tolerate Norwegian commercials at least.
9:40 here they made fun of the "Idol" show, which never did a "World Idol" after our beloved plumber won it (Kurt Nilsen, that's a thing to check out!). World Idol was made to show the world the US idol winner (sorry I honestly can't even remember the US idol, Carey maybe?), and then some rather ugly dude plumber from Norway won it hands down with his amazing voice (even the famously harsh Simon Cowell said "if this was a radio show you'd walk it" (as in it would not even be a race to the finish)).
How about, watching some Norwegian movies ? and give some feedback ?? i am sure many others have ideas to movies to.. Heres my list in my priority. :D 1 ( Olsen banden og Dynamitt-harry ) 2 ( Børning 1 ) 3 ( Flåklypa Grand prix ) 4 ( Trolljegeren ) 5 ( Narvik ) 6 ( Askeladden I Dovregubbens hall ) 7 ( Tre Nnøtter Til Askepott ) 8 ( Slipp Jimmi Fri )
3 The Pinchcliff Grand Prix is the American title. But it should get that result if these titles are searched on IMDB. Good list, perhaps add Lange Flate Baller and it's sequels to the list? Likewise with Børning 2 and 3 too. There's several other movies that should be mentioned here such as Kongens Nei, Bølgen, Skjelvet, Troll, 9 Liv, Orions Belte, Plastposen, Norske Byggeklosser, Døden på Oslo S, Død Snø, Fjols til fjells. There's a lot to choose from, more than you'd expect.

"Full pakke" or full package as said in this vid is more close to "the whole nine yards" or "all the works" or something like that.
Some guys made a remake of Lørdagspizza, called "Ferdigpizza", tho I don't know if you can find that with English subtitles.
5:40 yeah grandiosa is a very popular saturday snack. And about the big one pizzas: They have thicker bases so they're more of a full meal, while most tend to treat the grandiosa as a snack akin to candy or crisps (chips in US).
Gotta say, watching these vids in 1.25 speed is just that little bit better
Jenny Skavlan
I think Big One is Norwegian, but the reason they are mentioning America is because there is "American style pizza" (and there is "Italian style pizza"), and they sell American style pizza.
American style pizza is when the dough thing is thick and airy, I think it also usually has more cheese, while Italian style pizza is when the dough part is thin (I think it's called thin crust in English), and there is usually less cheese, maybe only a few mozzarella slices.
Sitting here and eating bigone meat lover and watching lol
Meat lover or pepperoni are the only choices.
Real Italian Style Kebab Pizza is a swedish innovation born in Jönköping and is the best pizza in the world
Everybody in Norway knows the Grandiosa saturday pizza song lol, it was a giant hit
While Big One and Grandiosa are strictly two different brands, they're made by the same company, so - yes, we do strictly have a very good frozen pizza selection, but they're all the same producer
Hence Big one being named Grandiosa Big one in Sweden. Always so strange to see that, but it's all Orkla made.
damn... Now I'm missing Lørdagspizza again.. every few years this happens
Norwegian commercials - especially ones for food - are so high effort.
We have Kebab Pizza in Sweden also
Gongrats 😎
As a Norwegian I have to admit that the Swedish ones are wayyy better.
@@peacefulminimalist2028 depend where you buy...but the hype for kebab pizza are in the way down..
at least half of the country's households, probably more, eats tacos every friday and pizza every saturday here in norway! so yes, saturdaypizza is a big thing i norway
I have had the lørsdagspizza song stuck in my head for over a decade. No wonder norway likes grandiosa
Grandiosa commercials are goated!
How manny norwegen pepple like whaching hes vidios
"Full pakke" or "Full package" means that it includes everything. (as in everything you would want/need)
The Full Monty in English.
Here in Europe we say «less is more» 😉
Big one in sweden is called grandiosa
Helmax - "To the max" paraphrased translation
parody of "Lørdags Pizza" is a classic
The full pakke song was like a hit in Norway for a short while
I would translate it as "Pizza Rolls"
Hi Tyler. The norwegian word "skinke" means "ham". :- )
I eat pizza almost every day. You can put whatever you want on it. We even got chocolate pizza in the freezers
chocolate pizza are removed here
"Helmax" is a Norwegian alternative to "Awesome" or "Fantastic"
A literal translation would be "Full Max" or "Completely Max" or "Whole Max". (You could interperet is as "as max as it can be")
"BIG ONE, MORE THE GOOD STUFF"
Came here for the Grandiosa vibe😂
big one is american style and grandiosa is norwegian style pizza
Paprika means sliced "Bell Pepper". Norwegian commercials are shown much rarer during a broadcast than in the US. So the commercials need to be more impactful. I suppose. As a Norwegian i can tolerate Norwegian commercials at least.
Grandiosa has a couple songs actually😂
That "princess" is actually from my home town in Norway, and no, she is not a princess🤣
Paprika:bell pepper
Skinke:Ham
9:40 here they made fun of the "Idol" show, which never did a "World Idol" after our beloved plumber won it (Kurt Nilsen, that's a thing to check out!). World Idol was made to show the world the US idol winner (sorry I honestly can't even remember the US idol, Carey maybe?), and then some rather ugly dude plumber from Norway won it hands down with his amazing voice (even the famously harsh Simon Cowell said "if this was a radio show you'd walk it" (as in it would not even be a race to the finish)).
The "Grandiosa" commercial must at least 20 years old.
They mean pan pizza by american style. Paprika is bell pepper, skinke is ham
Full package of taste i believe
As far as I know, it was Americans that invented Jingles.
What you call «The american pizza» is what we dream that could have been in America….🤗
You know, The land of our dreams….But not anymore now 😏🇳🇴
The funny part is that Grandiosa is a norvegian product.. but Sweden has more Grandiosa types than norway do 😂
american pizza is like pan pizza with a thicker crust. origenal Grandiosa pizza came with (skinke) Ham and (paprika) Bell peppers
I can translate the videos if you want just reply if you want
When they say american style pizza, it means pan pizza with thick crunchy bottom. Not like the thin Italian
How about, watching some Norwegian movies ? and give some feedback ??
i am sure many others have ideas to movies to..
Heres my list in my priority. :D
1 ( Olsen banden og Dynamitt-harry )
2 ( Børning 1 )
3 ( Flåklypa Grand prix )
4 ( Trolljegeren )
5 ( Narvik )
6 ( Askeladden I Dovregubbens hall )
7 ( Tre Nnøtter Til Askepott )
8 ( Slipp Jimmi Fri )
3 The Pinchcliff Grand Prix is the American title.
But it should get that result if these titles are searched on IMDB.
Good list, perhaps add Lange Flate Baller and it's sequels to the list?
Likewise with Børning 2 and 3 too.
There's several other movies that should be mentioned here such as
Kongens Nei,
Bølgen,
Skjelvet,
Troll,
9 Liv,
Orions Belte,
Plastposen,
Norske Byggeklosser,
Døden på Oslo S,
Død Snø,
Fjols til fjells.
There's a lot to choose from, more than you'd expect.
I had to buy a grandiosa after watching this
