Such lectures should always be subtitled...hard to comprehend...and we haven't done lip-reading yet.Thanks.

Priceless. Always believed there was more to Beckett than mere 'nihilism'.

1:02:06min That is an interesting quote. It sounds like, to me, what they are saying is that someone will come up with some reason for which there is no explanation, nor should one try to reconcile it given the degree of unhealthy relation to the illusory. That is what it seems like to me. That they are worried about some clever person will come up with "the resolution" instead of dealing with the issue you should pray, and obey the priests etc.

Towards the end: Yes, but the position from which pain is explored in Beckett is different from Buddhism. Gautama begins from a situation of comfort, and tries to empirically investigate how to relate to pain. Characters like Murphy, Vladimir, Estragon, and Molloy are approximating mortality not from Gautama´s initial position. Not that it would be irrelevant for them to acquaint themselves with it, but it is approximating mortality not because of their attachment to a self, but rather simply approximating mortality after that type of self has ceased to have a role to play.

9:56min It is kinda weird how she delivers the lecture. As if having to perform it. I have seen plenty of lectures, there are a few that are like this, but not very many.

An interesting if dense lecture. Definitely a lot to think about here, might need a second watch.

I listened but I wonder about what is it about Beckett´s method of subtraction (vis-a-vi Joyce) that he thinks allows for the inevitable presence of the divine. If he deals with it during the lecture would someone please tell me where he dealt with this? I do not remember him elaborating on this point.

I thought it weird how he insisted on the existance of democracy even though such has not been the case. You wonder what is it that he uses to understand what is taking place around the world nowadays.
