    Jesse calling out everyone for their disbelief in forgiving Bakool Ja Ja, especially in regards to their behaviour to Emet Selch was top tier banter 😂

      I can't wait to get to that part of the vod because that is so on point. But to give some SOME small leeway for the Emet Selch lovers, it does help he was a fun charismatic villain with a fantastic and relatable motivation.

      1) No one forgave Emet nor did Emet ask/want forgiveness. In fact, he explicitly stated ""But though you defeated me, my ideals are inviolate. Invincible." He does not admit he was wrong, only that he lost, and further rejects any sympathy or redemption with "Spare me your pity. I have no use for it". A good villain is one who's reasons you understand. A great villain is one whos reasons you might even agree with. Emet was a great villain. 2) Bakool Ja Ja got redeemed too fast. Mere hours ago, he released a world ending beast called the Skyruin for no reason other than giggles and threatened to kill a girls estranged father in front of her for sport. The Ardor cooked for a long time, with Emet being in SB and ShB and EW before we 'sort of understand his point now'. He never said 'oh, well, sorry about all that" or even got close to it, rather the opposite (my ideals are inviolate). Jessie acknowledges 1:27:16 and 1:27:45 as well. I liked Bakool Ja Ja, and all we saw the 'bully with a past' coming, but it was jarring that it came on the heels of him trying to destroy the country (Skyruin). They should have given him time to cook. 3) The Blessed Sibling breeding is something they CHOOSE to do, or, to put it another way; Always Sunny In Philadelphia: S4E9: Sweet Dee: "Those aren't real problems Charlie, you made those problems up, you CHOOSE to do that stuff". Charlie: "Those are solutions to problems!"

      @@mikea3098 Bakool CHOOSE to do the mean things he did. He did not choose the breeding thing (and no one said he did). The people of Mamook are messed up in that they prefer 99 out of 100 children death rate over talking to/being around strangers (recall that both people in Mamook and Bakool Ja Ja say the plan was to move to the capitol when he becomes Dawnservant and declares Mamool Ja an exalted race, they are not attached to the land itself, just too stubborn/scared of strangers to have already left for the capitol like most of the Mamook people already did). So all these idiots think 99 of 100 infants dying is the lesser of two evils when compared to being around strangers in the capitol (where other Mamool Ja from Mamook also live). Bakool Ja Ja WANTS to be redeemed for his own actions (trying to kill people, releasing the skyruin, and remember, being cruel. He didnt just do things to make sure he won that were underhanded, he laughed and expressed joy at others suffering, taunted for the sake of taunting, even did cruel things that would RISK his chances), and Emet did not. Emet apologized for NOTHING despite almsot certainly racking up a far greater body count, Bakool apologies to Wuk in that very same scene. Bakool has no good reason to fight for something he himself thinks is horrible, should be stopped, can easily be stopped, and never had a reason to continue being done since 80 years ago (the Dawnservent knew about this, and only the stubborn hardliners that didnt want to leave stayed in Mamook, despite their plan to leave for the capitol anyways, once Bakool Ja Ja wins).

    Regarding Bakool Ja Ja's dialogue mostly coming from one of his heads, I came up with a headcanon that solves it.
    If two headed Mamool Ja share one pair of lungs, they'd run out of air twice as quickly while both heads speak together. Thus, it'd make sense that they'd become used to one head speaking. The one who's more outgoing would speak more than the one who is more reserved, and over the years they'd just get used to this balance as the heads work together.

    Spoilers below the cut re: Bakool Ja Ja and his motives.
    ...
    ...
    ...
    I've seen some spicy takes in recent days that ridicule Bakool Ja Ja's motives for being, essentially, "I don't want more babies to die, so I'm going to do things that risk other lives (including, presumably, babies)". I don't think that's an accurate summation of his pre-repentance position.
    I think Bakool Ja Ja isn't cheating and bullying because that is *what will stop* his people's babies from dying. I think he's doing it *because* so many of his people's babies have died, and therefore that sacrifice, that martyrdom is all on his shoulders now. He *has* to take the throne; he *has* to elevate the Mamool Ja back to their place of supremacy. He must, because so many of his kin have paid the price for it in blood. His people have put all of their hopes and ambitions on him, and if he fails, he lets *everyone* down, and renders the sacrifice meaningless. He outright says earlier (to his own cronies!) that he doesn't have a plan for what happens *after* he wins (including "stop babies from dying"); he just knows that he *has* to.
    When he starts crying about not wanting more babies to die, that is his "rock bottom" moment. That's not a revelation of his true conscious desires that he's secretly kept to himself the whole time--that's him having to rethink everything about his purpose in life and try to answer Wuk Lamat's challenge to decide what he really wants. This is not "Turns out the bully was trying to do something good all along", this was "The bully had a *busted* (and bad!!) belief system that was drilled into him by everyone important in his life, and he has to figure out what happens now that it has all collapsed under him".
    I think his mother has been on that page for a while, but he finally clicks over to yielding to her belief. And the reason he is swayed is the same reason that she believes there might now be a chance to change her peoples' mind: they got their blessed siblings, their unimaginably strong champion, who by all rights should have been able to thrash the "inferior" competition. And it didn't work. Whether or not anyone was ready to consider that their path was *morally wrong,* they now had to *at minimum* contend with the idea that it was not the silver bullet they believed it to be. Was it worth continuing to suffer for what had turned out to be a false hope?
    Bakool Ja Ja in particular had only *just* discovered that it *was* a false hope, and therefore is only *just* coming to the (conscious?) conclusion that nobody should die for it anymore.
    It might have been nice to have some more breathing room in the story for his turnaround to be more gradual, but he is becoming a better lizard *despite* himself, not because the poor bb was simply misunderstood all along.
    (And Twelve bless his mom for having to try to raise a kid who had been given a literal messiah complex)

      @msaag5490 Месяц назад +5

      I do like this read on Bakool Ja Ja, and I also agree that the game should have given him more breathing room to expand to this point. It's definitely a bit too clunky and too quick, and it still leaves a sour taste in the mouth because he freed Valigarmanda. If the story was logical, that one act would have instantly disqualified Bakool Ja Ja and potentially had him executed for terrorism and endangering the lives of potentially all of Tural. You don't free the continent's most infamous and powerful vidraal and not get away scot free regardless of the outcome where we and the other characters partied up to take it down for good.
      I think a bit more dialogue showcasing how lost Bakool Ja Ja felt would've alleviated some of the awkwardness. It may have dragged the scene on for a bit too long or maybe just be an entirely separate scene, but we probably needed to see Bakool Ja Ja work out the details of what they were doing, why they think they joined the rite, why they thought it necessary, why they ultimately failed, and what did they even plan to do had they actually won. Just a deluge of introspection. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but if the Devs plan on giving Bakool Ja Ja more of a role as a good guy, we need him to come to the understanding and conclusion of what he has done and why it was wrong.
      Also, the mom is a Saint. I'm so glad whatever teachings Zereel Ja dumped into Bakool Ja Ja's head, did not ruin his respect and love for his mother. He definitely needs her support if he is to grow more as a person.

      @@AschenDog I haven't seen the end of the expansion yet, but I made a comment here detailing how I think Bakool Ja Ja's story can go. Basically he becomes the new Landsguard captain replacing Zoraal Ja if he dies and is the ultimate bad of the expansion. Wuk Lamat tasks him with redoing the rite of succession as a means of atonement and maybe he ends up pulling a Gulool Ja Ja and makes his own crew from the various tribes throughout his journey.

      This is excellent post sir. I think you got what SE was going for, but many points here don't hold up to common sense we see in game itself (which is a problem with the narrative, not your evaluation). Recall that Bakool Ja Ja did things that were cruel and laughed at others misfortune, and often even risked his chances at winning the Dawn throne for a chance to be mean, so while I agree with your take, you cannot say he did everything for that 'weigh' since we see him, many times, risk ruining his chances just to be a jerk. For example, you observed in your post, "...hopes and ambitions on him, and if he fails, he lets everyone down, and renders the sacrifice meaningless." and you are right; further the game tells us what renders the sacrifice meaningful, which is them moving to the capitol when he wins and raises up Mamool Ja as an exalted race. Remember that many from Mamook already left for the capitol. So the conclusion here is what? They COULD leave, but the idea of being around strangers in the capitol is FAR WORSE than 99 out of 100 babies dying? Or Mamook could leave now, but not unless they are exhausted above the other races in that capitol? The text in game supports both those conclusions, and further suggests Mamook feelings of powerlessness stem from food insecurity, which is solved with a single phone call. Bakool Ja Ja was redeemed too fast, and while we can agree on the why he was a bully, it doesnt excuse his wrongs (something he himself says) AND when we learn the circumstances of WHY he feels this guilt (the infants, and how easily it could be avoided and what other options the people of Mamook have) it undermines his super quick redemption that happened just hours after he took a girls father hostage to kill him/her and released a world-ending monster for giggles. For over 80 years the Dawnservent knew about this, and for 80 years the people of Mamook had more/new options and for 80 years they concluded that '99 out of 100 infant mortality' was not as bad as the alternatives, so its hard to pity them for suddenly switching gears as they decry the choice they made, and continued to make for decades, rather than "be around so many strangers". Remember too, their attachment to the land is fickle, as the plan when Bakool Ja Ja wins was to leave for the capitol (and where crops will grow). At the end of the day, I hated that the answer to the whole problem of blessed siblings was resolve with 1 phone call, and to stop brown people and blue people from having babies (that much? at all? often? whatever).

    I have not seen the end of Dawntrail yet, but seeing what CBU3 did with Bakool Ja Ja here, I can think of a few things where this might go. If Zoraal Ja is truly the bad guy, there's a good chance he dies by the end of this expansion. And if Bakool Ja Ja survives til the end of the expansion for whatever reason, I can see him ending up as the new Landsguard Commander, replacing Zoraal Ja IF he does die.
    One other thing I can see is that Wuk Lamat will forgive/exonerate Bakool Ja Ja and his crimes by making him do the rite of succession as the new head of the Landsguard. To help him build and rebuild rapport that he didn't do during the actual contest. And if CBU3 does go all in on the Bakool Ja Ja character arc, i can see him walking the path of Gulool Ja Ja with his own squad from the different clans and tribes, but instead of becoming the Dawnservant, Bakool Ja Ja becomes the greatest Landsguard Commander in their short history. His final task for the Mamook part of the contest is to build a monument that memorializes all his siblings and the children who died in the blessed siblings creation process.
    I could be horribly wrong and Bakool Ja Ja dies at some point, but he would definitely die a hero's death. But if they are doing the redemption story line this would be amazing to see.

    Man, I genuinely don't get the mentality that the WoL is completely untouchable. Sure, they're strong but they're not One Punch Man. They've always needed help to do what they do. You had to bring a party of friends with you to fight a bunch of random Tural wildlife. Sauntering into Dawntrail's story thinking you're invincible and nothing is a threat to you and every problem would be solved if they just let you do your thing feels like a super weird take.

    • @yacket

      To be fair it would give an explanation lore-wise why they barely let you do anything as your character. We did prove ourselves to wuks dad in the first few levels too, the ja ja who is cannonically the most powerful on the continent so technically the MC already proved they are martially untouchable so far.

    • @Toffeehammer
      @Toffeehammer 29 дней назад +1

      @@yacket I'm not saying the WoL isn't one of the strongest around but even fighting an elderly Gulool Ja Ja to a standstill shouldn't make you go into the rest of the expansion thinking you're unbeatable. You needed a bunch of help to beat his shade as well as a weakened Valigarmanda and you couldn't even handle a stroll through a Turali forest full of monsters without backup. People will always claim the WoL was holding back for all that rather than accept they're strong but not THAT strong but there's literally no evidence of that. Acknowledging your own strength while not dismissing every possible threat as beneath you are mentalities that can and should co-exist. Thinking about the WoL as an unstoppable god level being just actively subtracts from the story imo.
      Jesse keeps saying that having beaten the Endsinger should mean nothing in this expansion should be a threat to him but he needed 7 other WoL's as well as Zenos in the form of a giant dragon AND your comrades prayers empowering you to pull that off.
