Contractors should have moved the viewing public much further back. Someone screwed up. Personally, I gobsmacked they did do the demolition on a heavily raining day to reduce the dust. It rains every day in Scotland.

Ik heb vier jaar in Glasgow gewoond, tot 2010. Ben nu al weer een tijdje terug in Nederland. Schitterende stad, schitterende mentaliteit. Waarom wilden jullie altijd al naar Schotland? Het is uiteraard een enorm mooi land. Van mensen die naar Schotland emigreren hoor je niet vaak.

All Asbestos would of been removed before demolition, its probably concrete or other dusts, still not very healthy to breathe in though!

Yes it could be sad for the people who grew up with it being there but at the same time it was an old eyesore that would have been very costly to renovate and maintain

I think safedem tried to discourage people to come and watch. They said on their site that there was no clear view of the building. Considering these buildings dominate the skyline I found that hard to believe. I however did not expect to get that close either. Some of the videos on youtube appear to have been shot even closer to the building...You should watch the other one comming down! I don't know when....

yes, 1960's flats I think. Cost a lot to build at the time but harboured loads of people. Probably not what you'd call a low crime area by the 70s or 80s. They initially harboured a lot of refugees and people requiring low rent accomodation, from the wiki - As of Spring 2014, with two of the buildings demolished, only Tower 2 (33 Petershill Drive) remains occupied; the deconstruction process now having begun on the remaining five. I wonder if this demo went according to plan. I expected a bottom up implosion anyway, certainly did not expect they would blow just a few floors right below the centre of the building and let the top tilt over and let gravity do the rest. Was the toppart meant to tily over like that?
Oh btw, WTC1, 2 and 7 were also blown up of course, anyone with eyes and a bit of knowledge of physics and odds should know that.
I do believe that WTC 7 was probably rigged with bombs, but could you send me some evidence? We can't just believe you from just what you wrote. However, I don't believe that WTC 1 & 2 were rigged with bombs. When the planes hit the towers at an estimated of 500 MPH, it destroyed a lot of it's steel inside that was supporting the building, not all of it. Overtime the heat from the fuel weakened the steel, so the steel couldn't handle the weight above and therefore causing a progressive collapse.
philconey11 I totally agree. There's no need to insult him, though. What do you think about WTC 7? It was never hit by the plane and also collapsed several hours after WTC 1 & 2 collapsed.
It was probably hit by debris from the buildings collapsing. Imagine millions of tons of steel, and concrete coming down on a smaller structure. Not to mention the kinetic forces that went into the earth probably created massive cracks in Tower 7's foundation and load bearing walls causing massive structural instability. These buildings weren't designed for anything like this. It's tragic, really, that the designers didn't think to consider making any of these tall structures highly re-enforced in the event of missile or bomb attacks. Or even crazy earthquakes. But, what's done is done and we can only learn from tragic mistakes and poor planning.

if you look at images of 7 WTC you will see that the entire side of the building was on fire and had a huge gash in it from the north tower falling on it. Deutsche Bank Building another building located near the south tower also suffered massive fire damage as well as having a gash in the building. It was so badly damaged it had to be taken down. If these buildings had ''explosives'' in them they would have brought the towers down right away. as for 7 wtc the building fell from the center were the most damage was done.

I had family who lived nearby when the flats were being built and locally the contruction workers were known as "wee white mice" because at the end of every shift they were completely covered in asbestos dust: the biggest fear regarding the design of the towers was that there might be a fire since the design was terrrible - to get to a fire exit you had to pass through an ajoining flat!
They removed the aspestos before demolishing
China has been building similar style high rise buildings wonder what will happen to them in the future
