@@InnerRise not really there havent been ANY advertisements thats ive seen across any social media or media platforms, the only reason i know the movie is out is because of this review and a snap story about the creator bitching about something i didnt care enough to read into it
I actually have a solution for that. Marvel can include the mutants into the MCU by explaining their sudden appearance as a side effect of the radiation given off by the Infinity Gauntlet. The radiation kicks off a widespread boom of mutations which is largely prevalent in the prepubescent kids who were initially snapped away. To put it simply; they came back wrong. They can still have Magneto and Professor X as pre-existing characters, just explain that they were an early generation of mutants who were around before this large wave of new mutations occurred. Basically just have it that before The Snap, mutants only existed on a small enough scale to not be a matter of public knowledge. This massive outbreak of new mutant cases is what will be the driving force for the movie. It'll be the moment where Magneto sees the opportunity for mutants to finally overtake humanity, while Xavier scrambles to get the public to better understand mutants and opens his school to help them control their new abilities. All the while the government/SHIELD scrambles to get ahead of the situation and comes into violent conflict with Magneto and the mutants he recruited.
This movie was okay, I guess? My biggest disappointment, though, was how quickly everyone wasn't bothered by Moonstar's powers. It felt really out of character for most everyone, except Wolfsbane. Like, they obviously eventually figured out what her power was and Ilyonna intended to kill her but then after she *exploits* the most traumatic memories Ilyonna had... they're totally fine with it? Like, they're completely okay with this person being around who, without trying, makes them relive their worst memories and fears and clearly has NO control of it... and that's just good with all of them even though Ilyonna tried to kill her 5 minutes ago? But because "doctor lady also bad" they completely forget the pure trauma even existing next to Moonstar is, and everyone is cool with it? Like, holy shit. Her entering the facility alone, before the doctor ever torments her, has caused nightmare visions for almost everyone--nightmare visions so powerful they can and will hurt or kill you.
Maybe because she showed she could control the bear? and they had each other to protect them from their fears (they had kind of ended up trusting each other by the end of the movie IMO) until she had full control.
@@necrona Which is absurd because she showed she could control the bear only at the VERY end. Up until that point, all of these nightmare visions, including the bear, were trying to kill them. Killing one teenager seems comparatively easy to fighting off a demon bear that killed an entire Reservation. They have to protect one another from their fears that MOONSTAR is causing simply by being in the same house as them. I get what you're saying but it's hard to find a single reason to justify the sudden and complete script flip they had to Moonstar.
The thing that made me soooo mad with this movie was because like Jeremy said, the concept is amazing. But then when it came to execution it was meh. I would’ve loved a confined, horror based superhero film. But one, it felt too short, and two stuff didn’t get moving until half way through
If you think you're unlucky, think of this film and it's filmmakers: - Delayed to a point no-one believed that it would come out. - Released finally but in the worst time possible - Released finally but with shit reviews.
For a movie shot in 2017, delayed 5 times, had supposed reshoots and re-edits (which I’m not sure even ever happened in the final product), studio interference, the studio was then sold to Disney, and a global pandemic affecting it’s release? I think I probably went in with low enough expectations as to why they buried the movie that I thought it was totally fine. Certainly not on par with “Logan” and an R rating would have served it better, but it was fine. The actors were fine, the concept was fine, the vfx were fine, etc. Definitely better than “Dark Phoenix”.
Y'all never watched.... - The Boys. - Black Mirror - Mandalorian - Love Death & Robots - Stranger Things. - Daredevil (Netflix) - Hannah - Hunters - Bandersnatch ????? If you think this movie was ANY good, go back and watch at least one of these *shows* I listed. Not movies, TV SERIES. The Snyder Cut trailer was better than this movie! The Batman trailer was better.
@@kemocali6504 It's a shame Zack Snyder is not a great writer and will probably fuck up the Justice League again. Directing and Cinematography wise, yeah, he's a genius. But talking about his writing and scripting? He's pretty piss poor, and considering he wrote the Justice League....OH BOI!
My recollection of this movie's backstory: A guy wanted to make an X-men horror movie. The studio said okay, but if he made it more of a teen adventure film than proper horror. He agreed and made it, and it did at least okay with test screening audiences. Then the first trailer came out, which made it look like the horror thing it was originally supposed to be, and a bunch of people got enthusiastic for that. So the studio ordered reshoots to turn the movie into the horror thing they had prevented it from being, EXCEPT the studio also got bought out by Disney, the project ping-ponged around, there was dispute about what continuity it was supposed to be in (MCU, X-men or something else?), supposedly Disney didn't feel horror was "on-brand" for them, and the reshoots never happened because of money, scheduling and the cast aging too much. Also pandemic. So it very much is a horror story, but the horror is about the making of the movie, not the movie itself.
No, the reshoots happened. They had a cut, then delayed it, had a second cut, then delayed again, had a third cut, then Disney bought the studio, took whatever footage they had, and did a fourth cut. It was first made to be PG-13, then after Logan and Deadpool the Director got the R-Rating to make the movie he wanted, then after Disney, went back to PG-13. Just a lot of like Studio interference to the point the product got spit out. Except unlike the Snyder Cut, where Warner Bros and the fans are full on-board with Zack Snyder making the movie he wanted, we're probably never going to see even half of the footage that was shot for this movie.
@@chuugummy975 No, there were reshoots, but they were like 3 years ago after the initial trailer. I know they brought back Maisie Williams for a few scenes. They didnt reshoot everything, just a couple of scenes.
I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed this flick. It's no "Logan" but it's definitely watchable and has some great subtext. Definitely a unique approach to the material as well

I'm legitimately bummed out the movie is getting overwhelmingly negative reviews. Guess we should've known all along with its troubled production. Oh well. I'll wait to see it on VOD.
When FOX had it, they kept delaying it to make it better, then Disney bought FOX and Disney said the original one is the one we will release. Then COVID happened and it got delayed again.
@@denizdemir9255 not fan of Marvel I see. Understandable, though I'd rather have an average movie from Marvel than an inconsistent shitty one from Fox.
I watched it last night. The pacing was off and the movie felt rushed theyre was barely any character development between the group and the movie itself felt chopped.
I can agree, yeah. The effects also were pretty shoddy and almost TV-quality at times. It was at least an average movie, if nothing else. But I also gotta remember that this movie was delayed again and again and went through some pretty tough times. I'm honestly just glad it was able to come out at all.
As someone who knew the characters going in, I had a great time. I’m glad they were able to squeeze this movie out after Dark Phoenix so we could end Fox’s X-Men on a better note. I took my family to see it last night and we all said it was about an 8/10 for us.
I just watched it for the first time today. Totally regret not watching it in theatres, feel so bad for the team behind it. Easy 7/10 from me, I’d watch it again.
I have to agree that if you are familiar with the comics, it's a different iteration, yet still faithful retelling of the Demon Bear story. I liked it honestly.
If I remember clearly New Mutants and Dark Phoenix we’re being filmed at the same time and ironically they had delays and did re-shoots on both of them idk what Fox was doing at this time but they must’ve not had their priorities in order cause it shows on the screen. Sucks though total waste on two good stories.

I mean, even if the movie was good, I think Jeremy would be right on the money there. In Disney's eyes, this movie is a hold-over Fox project that they've been trying to figure out what to do with since they acquired Fox. @@thevagabond1314 There's no reason to dodge the movie anymore. He has plenty of free time and accessibility to the theatrical and extended cuts. Popular demand works. Funny how New Mutants got released before that review.
Apperantly through some confusing background story if this movie came out on streaming Disney would have to give up the movie to HBO. Could've been worse for sure but I was definitely underwhelmed. Lack of focus, lack of flow between the scenes, predictable with unsurprising "reveals" as you mentioned, and pretty generic feeling all around. I do feel that there's a better movie that was left on the cutting room floor. Some scenes either felt misplaced or cut short (there are scenes in the trailer that are just straight up missing from the movie altogether) and overall the movie looked way too dark (literally) and I could barely make out what was happening. I feel most of the problems could be fixed in post and maybe we could get a decent re-cut of the movie for blu-ray release but tbh I highly doubt many people give enough of a shit for this to be even remotely possible.
I got the vibe that it wasn't the main character's powers causing these manifestations, her flashback implied it being an outside entity/force housed inside her and her girlfriend mentioned that the bear is her own fear and wouldn't be caused by her. I can't remember his name but I kept thinking it was the mutant who's had mental battles with Xavier and is of comparable power, a character who's manipulated Storm when she was a child and I think was used in Legion as well. Also, whenever I see the Essex Corp I keep thinking/hoping Mr. Sinister is going to show up but he never does nor is he involved with anything in the background, so why even bother using the Essex Corp.
I felt the same with Deadpool 2, where the Essex name was just an Easter egg but considering his intrinsic association with Cable, just a letdown. But I understand it, the two biggest headaches in the Xmen are explaining Nathan and Rachel Summers to new fans. Oh and you're thinking of the Shadowking.
@@dirkwolf9463 Yea the Shadow King. Though after looking into it, the Demon Bear was its own entity in the comics that they made merely just a manifestation of her powers in the movie. So basically, her hitting puberty alone wrecked her whole neighborhood, which is dumb. I don't mind powers that lead to tragedies/accidents, but it has to be built up and not just come out of nowhere.
Yeah, I hope Disney lets 20th Century make ONE more X-Men movie where they finally tie up that loose end and have Mr. Sinister be the villain, but I highly doubt it will happen. 😭
I am a little bit upset that the "The New Mutants will never be released" running gag is now officially over. It's like witnessing the death of a meme in real time.
I actually really liked what they did with Dani's power. It's a defense mechanism. When she feels scared, threatened, or stressed in some way, her body deals with that threat by presenting its worst fear. Take the scene when she was attacked by Ily, for example. Unknowingly and unintentionally, Dani's power accessed Ily's mind to pull out the scariest memory or worst fear she has. Dani then presents said fear to her as a deterrent to this threat. However, because Dani doesn't know how to control it, when she remembers her own scary or traumatic memories, her body identifies that there is a threat, but sees HER as a threat to HERSELF, so it uses her power against her. In terms of evolution, this is a very plausible next step. It does include psychic powers and manifestation of physical things out of thin air, sure, but the basic concept of it is a very plausible way for an enhanced or mutated organism to survive and preserve itself. I just thought it was really interesting.
I forgot this movie was a supposed to be a thing. When I first saw the first trailer ages ago, I was like, "Cool, they're gonna try a stab at that one Wolverine comic where Logan gets put in a psych ward... that's been taken over by a psycho created machines from human brains or something..." Like they were gonna try and do that whole sci-fi horror thing Marvel occasionally does. Sadly disappointed, but I do appreciate that the concept was at least attempted. Agreeing with ya on this one 100%, Jeremy.
New mutants first story arc inspired the film sooo🤷🏻♂️ Considering how long ago this was in production I figured that would’ve been out there already for people that are remotely interested
To me the movie tried way to hard to have a “breakfast club” aspect. Let’s get into mischief and have fun! But they shoulda focused on the scariness. It was like they couldn’t fully commit to it. And have us get to truly know the characters beyond their introductory personas and bad accents.
Many people wouldn't have noticed if people hadn't been posting those follow-up breakdowns with the circles drawn around him. For general audiences, the way in which he's revealed in the film would have still been a fun surprise.
I'm just glad we don't have to talk about this movie anymore, it's come to pass, and whoever sees it can forget about it. Fox's X-Men has officially died.
I chose this movie over Tenet because it looks more interesting. That said, I went in only with the old memory of first teaser trailer I saw back in 2017... so I honestly had no idea what to expect. I didn’t have high expectations for it as I would for the new James Bond movie, but to be honest it was much better than I expected.
I just watched the movie. Honestly it's NOT as bad as everyone is making it out to be. I do agree with some people that it drags and the main girl Dani is well. Not great, but I don't think that's the actresses fault. Everyone in the movie does a solid performance. The movie is what it is. and having waited what? 2 fucking years for this movie to come out? Just so I can see Wolfsbane on the big screen. I am pretty fucking happy with what they did. Honestly it's at least a 5/10. It's Average, it's not horrible, but it's not good either. This is the last movie we are going to pretty much see Fox wise. No more X-men fox universe. It's better then Dark Phoenix and Apocalypse tbh. But not as good as Days of Future past, and First Class. I really hope that Marvel does bring back some of these actors who played these characters and bring them into the MCU. They honestly deserve it. They did a good job.

Billy Hill Apocalypse wasn’t that bad imo. It ends off the First Class trilogy while giving an origin story for the OG trilogy characters in the new timeline. Charles’ & Erik’s story ends because they’ve come to terms with each other. Raven basically accepts her role as leader after DOFP “showed her a better way” the Quicksilver scene was amazing, and the post credits scene sets up Logan. Dark Phoenix was straight ass though
Jeremy, you are correct in that these characters did exist in the comics, and I can assure you, they're decent-good characters in the comics. They were created during a time when the X-Men had gotten really popular for a....few years. Days of Future Past, Dark Phoenix, Magneto vs submarines, Magneto's origin, Apocalpse, Stryker, all around this time in the books, so when they started making X-Men movies they had a lot more characters to choose from. ' New Mutants was one of the very first X-Men spinoffs, so they're kinda overdue. But if you compare them to X-23, Deadpool, Cable, Domino, yeah, they're not going to seem all that exciting.
To be fair, very few of the Mutants are actually interesting or have cool powers. Logan and Magneto are kinda it. There’s definitely a huge diverse range of abilities. Just nothing cool.
@@TheMelancholicWriter LMAOO logan and magneto the only ones with cool powers? you have got to be joking right? so being able to maniupulate fire, Ice, create earthquakes, turn your skin into metal, weather manipulation, gravity manipulation, teleportation, NONE of those are as cool as manipulation of magnetic force or healing factor that burns out.

Gabriel P I would definitely put it above Interstellar. Above Inception? Maybe, but I think I’ll need to sit with it and hear a few more opinions before declaring that, as recency bias might kick in. I have seen it twice though, and I thought it was even better the second time round. I think the story is easier to follow first time through than Inception would be for most. It’s when you start to think about how the story we view is structured and how certain people are where they are at certain times. With how inversion works in the film, you start thinking about which person is which version and so fourth.
I love the idea of doing a horror X-Men movie and I hope it's done better someday man there are so many mutants in X-Men comics that are genuinely horrifying

Thanks for being honest. I think so many reviewers are just so happy to go in and see anything in the movie theater, that they give this movie a decent grade. I think they’re more enamored with the fact that they’re seeing a movie in the theater rather than actually sitting watching and reviewing this movie honestly.
Technically if everyone was doing their job. The movie should have gotten better with every rewrite or reshoot. Perfection equals time and this has had plenty.
great point by Jeremy. The thing about X- men is that its more of a concept not as much as character. unlike other super hero movies which are character driven where the character or super hero is at the forefront the X-Men is driven by the concept of an individual being being a mutant and his or her secret powers. that concept is amazing and is what bring thrills and excitement to this franchise. Movies that place the concept at the fore front and build the narrative around it do well like the first one or more recently the First Class and Days of Future past. X-Men movies that fail to serve the concept will not impress.
I loved the characterization. The actors were perfectly cast and had great chemistry. There should have been more to it tho. I wanted more time with them
I watched Tenet yesterday and it’s awesometacular in my opinion. Well worth a watch on big screen music nearly blew my trousers down its so loud and in your face but really gets you pumped up! And the inverted fight scene you get teased in the trailer is super unsettling and kind of disturbing when you watch it play out I still can’t stop thinking about the film and the concept so to me that makes it a very good film.

The X-men franchise is now dead and in dire need of a proper reboot.
I say leave it alone for a few years personally. They will continue to be lackluster if there’s one soon.
@@HoorayForTyler
Feige said there is no plan for mutants into MCU until 2025.
Just leave it
We got until 2025 until there’s a reboot

@@WhatKindOfNameNow it sucks?
@@Navue-cn2tx Ok?
I'm with you...it was just "OK"

The thing that made me soooo mad with this movie was because like Jeremy said, the concept is amazing. But then when it came to execution it was meh. I would’ve loved a confined, horror based superhero film. But one, it felt too short, and two stuff didn’t get moving until half way through
2:14 that gum chewing impression was so good I could smell mint.
If you think you're unlucky, think of this film and it's filmmakers:
- Delayed to a point no-one believed that it would come out.
- Released finally but in the worst time possible
- Released finally but with shit reviews.
This is probably the best time for it to come out. There is nothing in theaters right now and people are itching to see movies again
Captain Nwalps
And I think most people that go see a superhero movie don’t care about the reviews anyway
Also apparently reshot and redone at nearly a Justice League level. Though no one will care about he original cut of this one.
@@ComicCrossing didn't the director say that reshoots didn't happen or something like that? I swear I read somewhere something like that happened
@@marvingonzalez8586 it was more like, they scrapped all the reshoot footage and stuck with the original cut
Agreed, i went in thinking it might be mediocre at best but actually really enjoyed it
Completely agree. I think the studios really f*cked this movie, as they usually do.

Once Jeremy's hair attains full Alan Moore-level glory, I expect a retrospective on all the movies based on Moore's comics.

Because it _was_ chopped, probably.
Rushed? Felt like it dragged along slowly
I felt the main problem was that it didn’t know what it wanted to be.
As someone who knew the characters going in, I had a great time. I’m glad they were able to squeeze this movie out after Dark Phoenix so we could end Fox’s X-Men on a better note. I took my family to see it last night and we all said it was about an 8/10 for us.

The last time I was this early to a review, New Mutants was still slated for 2017.
It never was. (gunshot)
You know a movie's bad when Jeremy suggests they had to release it during a pandemic so it would have little competition and make *some* money.
I mean, even if the movie was good, I think Jeremy would be right on the money there. In Disney's eyes, this movie is a hold-over Fox project that they've been trying to figure out what to do with since they acquired Fox. They don't really care if it succeeds or fails, it wasn't THEIR project. It really feels like they put this out now just to get it over with
The ironic thing there is that people have been watching classics on streaming sites because of the pandemic, making the competition far worse.

Some scenes either felt misplaced or cut short (there are scenes in the trailer that are just straight up missing from the movie altogether)
and overall the movie looked way too dark (literally) and I could barely make out what was happening.

Yea the Shadow King. Though after looking into it, the Demon Bear was its own entity in the comics that they made merely just a manifestation of her powers in the movie. So basically, her hitting puberty alone wrecked her whole neighborhood, which is dumb.

This is crazy, I use to watch your videos every morning at work before the pandemic while eating a bag of Cheezits. Now months later I no longer work there & haven't seen your videos or ate them since. But for some reason by the time you finished the review of the movie the taste of Cheezits magically appeared in my mouth. Funny how life works
I had a feeling the movie wouldn’t be good.
So they ruined The Demon Bear Saga. Okay. Can't wait for the actual MCU X-Families (X-Men, Excalibur, X-Force, etc.) to drop.
FOX ruined another classic “X-Book” storyline by not building to it properly and totally disregarding the source material? “Shocking”!
@@trealsteve Now, they can git rid of that "Human Torch" fella :)
joneshugh Sunspot?
@@trealsteve Sunspot was NEVER like that unless they recont him
joneshugh I was trying to figure out who you were talking about. They did that to him in the film? Are they that racist to not depict his power to literally turn black? 🤣
Jeremy has left behind John Wick and now edging in Aquaman hair/beard territory.
The best thing about this movie was the popcorn I was eating. It was fresh and help me through the tough parts of this movie. I’ll give the popcorn 10/10.
"..things that bring out your most fears into real life"
Any OG Silent Hill fans here?
I saw it. I enjoyed it.
Wish it was longer, and scarier. But I didn’t feel my money was wasted. Idk, it was good, not great, but good.
Yeah, my thoughts exactly
My two favorite Movie Reviewers: Jeremy and Chris Stickman...
Both calls Tenet "TENANT" 🤦
It’s like the only way to hear Tenet said right is in the commercials
Yes, I heard this talked about for days on a local radio station and was surprised to find just moments ago what the actual title is.
So does grace Randolph
Now, the Marvel era of mutants begins!
You can say that again 😅
Not till 2025 at the earliest
Yikes
Dude I would watch magik or wolfsbane movies over any wolverine shit
@@JC-kh7jn they aren't xmen comic fans lol they don't know who you're talking about
honestly, im just so glad movie theaters are open - I didnt even care the movie was bad lmao. I still enjoyed it hahah
Thanks for being honest. I think so many reviewers are just so happy to go in and see anything in the movie theater, that they give this movie a decent grade. I think they’re more enamored with the fact that they’re seeing a movie in the theater rather than actually sitting watching and reviewing this movie honestly.
"50% of either, and the master of neither"
Well said Jeremy.
Technically if everyone was doing their job. The movie should have gotten better with every rewrite or reshoot. Perfection equals time and this has had plenty.
The problem was once Disney bought FOX they decided to release the original version and said screw the rewrites and reshoots.
@@daultongray8 Why would they give money to an X-Men film when the last two films in the franchise flopped?
I think this was made before their releases
@@daultongray8 sooo basically a reverse syndercut situation
werdazhel _ basically that’s what happene
There's a reason no one wanted to release this movie smh
Watch it 1st
What
Waiting for the day Jeremy brings a Volleyball named Wilson as a prop piece for one of these reviews.
great point by Jeremy.
I wanted more time with them
Go watch my new video brah
I really like Anya Taylor-Joy as an actress. I haven't seen the movie, but I know she has to be a stand out. Shes an awesome actress
So good actors but badly developed characters and personalities for the characters.
DOOM PATROL S02 villian candlemaker brings out your fears too.... Bad timing for new mutants lol.
or does he turn your imagination against you? : p
This movie was doomed since the beginning but at least they tried, bring it on Marvel let me see Wolverine with that yellow or orange suit!!!
I prefer yellow and blue
Not really familiar with a lot of marvel comics, but is the xmen part of the avengers in the comics? Or they will just include the xmen in the MCU?
@@DeathFORcameO xmen is basically it's own entity, sometimes there's crossovers where they fight together, but usually they are separate.
@@brandon17760 oh thanks for the info.
@DamageIncM So basically Disney will just ruin x-men more in movies
I watched Tenet yesterday and it’s awesometacular in my opinion. Well worth a watch on big screen music nearly blew my trousers down its so loud and in your face but really gets you pumped up! And the inverted fight scene you get teased in the trailer is super unsettling and kind of disturbing when you watch it play out I still can’t stop thinking about the film and the concept so to me that makes it a very good film.
Hey, for people out there-- the director Josh Boone (not sure of the spelling) but he is a fan of the horror master Stephen King and he'd been directing his new limited tv series based on ST's book The Stand and it's kinda why The New Mutants is a horror movie than a superhero movie and if I may, I'll love it. Although, the execution of the story wasn't perfect but-- it's more like an EH than a WHOA but still, somehow, I--because I'm an ST fan--loved it.
