Enver Hoxha was terrified of his neighboring countries and the USSR invading albania so he demanded them to build little bunkers all over the country and small strong holds and trenches in places. So yes in a way they where.
I also dislike the CCP, and am working to fight its influence. Enver Hoxha seems like a classic dictator - They become paranoid after making many enemies, as authoritarians do. It's fortunate that the bunkers weren't used.

I'm just back from my vacation in Albania. I had a great week. I was enjoying the beach but also traveled a bit across the country. I've visited Tirana, Durres, Berat, Kruje and Koman lake.
It is a very interesting destination but not for everyone yet. I'm planning to go back in a few years time. I hope Albania will make some progress, specifically in infrastructure because there is still much to do. Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱
thank you for your opinion, i always act good and nice with poles visiting my country.

What is mean isn't not for everyone yet? Why?
Poland haven't Albanians as a immigrants. That's one reason why you support them.
@@vikingmusicindeed432 "not for everybody" i guess he ment that the country is not yet a consumerlike destination for vacations, instead it is still a wild type of tourism, basically most of polish people that i see coming in albania feel ok 👌 because the country is not as much developed with tourism as Italy or Spain for example so prices are affordable but it has less services for example public transportation or party places..

Many years ago, my Dad worked for an Irish newspaper. Once he got talking to the paper's Balkan correspondent, who had actually visited Tirana a few times (Ireland being neutral probably helped). One interesting vignette involved the Albanian Secret Police (Sigurimi). Like all intelligence outfits its members passed themselves off as Police Detectives, or Government Inspectors or similar but the Sigurumi always called themselves Librarians. Although the country only had a handful of libraries with just the complete works of Enver Hoxha on offer it was crawling with Librarians. One of the perks of the job was a pair of genuine Italian leather shoes, which was only a pipe dream for the general population. But the country was so poor its Government could only afford the cheapest available which invariably squeaked. So if you were walking down a street in Tirana and suddenly heard a squeaking noise, you knew a Librarian was following you! This sounds funny from a western perspective but not if you were one of their victims of course. I never found out if this tale was true though.
Was it the Irish Times? I know fintan o toole wrote about Kosovo in the 90s
The most important thing is all the Balkan countries and people to live in harmony support each- other and be more positive about it.

Of course there are bad people too, but I can safely say they're a minority (do we want to talk about the Italian mafia and camorra and their foreign businesses?).

Like he said its from the medieval times where conflict was permanent state in the balkans so men as warriors where „worth“ more
@@soul8938 Its not just in mediaval times its also used now in some places. There is a "law book" that in some places is more important than the State laws. I have Albanians friends they told me this.
@@user-zm8nb8pk4n i know you’re talking about the kanun from Leke Dukagjini this was used as a civil code and „law book“ mostly verbally passed on. Since albania was very remote in some places like its mountainous highlands and alps most central government couldn’t keep up the law people would have to take matters in their own hands to handle disputes and would rely on this set of rules which basically every albanian knew.
As for today basically the state law rules everwhere but like i mentioned some remote hillbilly ass places use it to justify revenge for the death of a family member for example since „eye for an eye“ is allowed in the kanun. Thats how the infamous albanian bloodfeuds are still a thing today sadly thankfully they’re outlawed and various groups try to settle the disputes with help from priests and imams

8:24 It's an Albanian traditional dish called Kukurec and it's also exported by albanians in southern Italy during the middle age, more specifically in Apulia, Apulians call it "Gnummareddi"
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kokoretsi
Gnumareddi and Kukurec are not the same. Kukurec is baked lamb intestines stuffed with liver and other organs, while Gnumareddi is just twisted and baked intestines with nothing stuffed in.
Kokoreç is the Turkish Original. Just like so many many other dishes in the Balkans and beyond… You’re welcome.
Very popular in southern Albania but not in north or central Albania. We call it Kukurec. I'm from south so I know it well. It also takes skills to prepare it and not everyone can make that dish.
Here in Greece it is popularly eaten at Easter and we call it Kokoretsi.

Code of law from the 15th cetury damn albania never fails to impress me
Yeah, people did not follow that in the 19th century word by word. But this guy does seem to think so.
Actualy the Kanun is much older than that, likely steming from pre roman times. Also, it was used up untill 1950 and certain things in it are still followed. It actualy is pretty egalitarian (apart from the womens rights of course), since there is no distinction between commoners and nobles. Also it lead to thousands of jews beeing saved during WW2, since hospitality is very important in the Kanun and you have to protect your guests no matter what.
In 15th century it became a official law.
But this law existed already before , it was used by the tribes as traditions.
Bro the poggers really sells the comment man like damn, that some synergy
Kanun was probably followed by less than 10% of Albanian population. So not very significant like some people try to portray it

i would say if u curious you better visit Albania in summer for its nice beaches, good weather and good food ... of course you are not able to experience all the fun stuff in this country with only a 2-3 days stay ... i would say a 10 days trip from the north to the south of the country with, some stops in between, would be the best to do. Start from the alps by visiting Theth National Park, very beautiful, then maybe the most unique cities like Skodra, Korca, Tirana the capital for some nightlife and shopping malls, also while in Tirana u can go up Dajti Mountain to have a meal in some of the best restaurants there, then maybe Berrat (the city of 1000 windows, named like that cause of the unique way the old houses were build, the name will make sense when u see it) then maybe the coastline around Durres city ... with caves, old castles near the sea, very photogenic ... and then u can continue the road to the south with similar stuff to what i mentioned before ... there is a lot to uncover in this country even tho its very smol it has a long and deep history and usually the locals are nice to tourists ..so u dont really have to worry much ...i would recommend u do that with a tourist guide or u read a ton beforehand to plan everything out cause as i said this county can offer u a lot if u are willing to give it a go ... and yeah it has its problems but its more a locals problem rather then a tourists that just visits the place for a few days haha ..well i hope i could at least make one person interested in Albania, that would be nice :)

You stating Hoxha liberated women and raised the literacy rate from 5% is a bit misleading. The emancipation of women actually started with the 1929 Law Code, enacted by King Zog, which legally made women and men equal, gave women the right to inheritance, and banned arranged marriages. Zog also banned the chador in 1932. Literacy when Hoxha took over was roughly 20%-25%. It reached its peak before that at about 30% in 1939, at the end of King Zog’s reign. Zog was the one who raised it from 5% (which was the number in 1925)
