Discussion: Innistrad remastered vs masterpiece era vs LOTR Special ed. Dollars and sense 1. Today, Innistrad remastered cards tanked and probably won’t rebound for any real money anytime soon because everyone ripped cases of product chasing Edgar and found they have too many poster cards in every box with 3 to 5 different printings of all the chase cards. 2. First ever chase cards in history. Masterpiece era, BFZ, aether, kaladesh, amonkhet, Hour of devastation cards. Most of these cards in all of these sets aren’t high value cards. Not because there aren’t good playable cards on these sets it’s just everyone heavily ripped packs chasing the masterpieces. 1, that caused all cards to run to the bottom as the market was flooded and became bulk. And there was about 30-50 absolutely beautiful masterpiece chase cards that were about 1 pulled per entire case of draft booster. Yes know it was possible to pull one in a bundle but was super rare. And for 15 years Sol ring masterpiece was the most expensive sol ring out of any would ring printed. Which is almost printed as much as evolving wilds. So if you need a sol ring for your deck you can get one for $0.25 all day long. But if you want The One golden child sol ring masterpiece you’re going to drop a paycheck, minimum. And you could open 20 cases of Kaladesh and pull 20 masterpieces and still not pull a sol ring. $$$$$$$$ ps I still think this particular card is way underpriced. but we don’t know how many truly got printed and there is no serial numbers. 3. Recent history collector era. LOTR special ed. This product had 10-15 serialized poster art with poster foils and non foils of the same version. Average price of these cards is around $150. And the collector boxes are $1300+. These boxes were a limited run, with serialized cards in them. Yes they banned one ring in modern and caused the price to go down from the $2000 high per box. And most of the serialized cards are very expensive, $1000’s of dollars per serialized card. And most of these cards are ehh, not bad, playable, good cards. Right 4. Edgar Markov? The value of Edgar has raced to the bottom because not there are 500-1000 different copies for sale online, not including what game stores have on the shelf and not counting how many are in play boosters that haven’t even been opened. So the showcase foil alternate art version is probably the best casual, affordable, playable, in deck card available to buy. And will most likely stay affordable. The question…..why is a serialized Edgar Markov, 1 of 500, Teir one CEDH commander not priced to The One Ring Serialized price?? Or higher?? This is a holy grail card!! There are not any non serialized posters foil or non foil in the set for Edgar like the one ring or Tom bombadill or Sauron. How many EDH players have or want to build an Edgar deck, casual or competitive. Now, how many cases, just on RUclips alone, how many cases upon cases of $300 collector boxes have been opened with zero serialized rainbow foiled poster Edgar’s??? So you open $8000 worth of collector boxes and you have NO serialized Edgar?? And it’s selling for $3000 on eBay??? That is INSANE!!!!!
Whew. This one is worthy of an entire video discussion. You bring up a lot of points that get nuanced - the complexity of collecting is exactly that - complex. Sometimes we are able to identify good buying opportunities and other times miss them based on market sentiment at the time. If I've learned one thing about the financial side of the hobby is that markets don't have to act rationally to find and then sustain a price. In the Pokemon world, the Moonbreon is a perfect example of this. As you know, the Magic market is driven by playability and has more recently dug into the exclusivity/scarcity side of things with serialized. My best answer for the LotR prices is that they expand into a fandom far outside the reach of Magic where deep wallets are competing compared to the more niche collector market of only MtG interest. LotR is also a confined once only happening, potentially never to be revisited - whereas Innistrad is an ongoing theme in Magic. I expect to see similar price action with Marvel and FF.
Dude. Just discovered your page (seems like you’re new to this). The content is great. Keep it up brother. The stories about the old sets are great. Many other channels just focus on value…I appreciate your knowledge of the lore and just legit fandom for the hobby. Rooting for you
Mannnnnnnn. Uploading a video and coming back to see this, cant tell you how motivating it is. Thank you for taking the time to watch and also help encourage the process. Big love
It’s a small thing but that vampire art at 5:30 was from Commander 2017, that was the art of the vampires and Edgar made, super glad to see it back and in foil!
Truthfully for a long time now I've not resonated with a lot of recent planes I started in kaladesh and aether revolt and I loved amonkhet and hours. I played through til the pandemic. so I'm really excited for aetherdrift in a weird way cus we're going back to my first two planes in one set that's awesome to me but I wish we got more time on each plane
Felt. Nostalgia is a hard thing to come up against. Aetherdrift is already growing on me - It will be interesting to see how the sentiment towards it will go over the years. I mean look at Amonkhet - when that was coming into standard the cries of "iTs MAGiK thE YuGLiOHinG" - hatteee hatteeee - now it couldnt be further from the case. Time does its thing
Really enjoying the content and your personnality. As someone who's never opened collector stuff and doesn't know much about market prices, I really like having the price show up on cards even commons!
Ayyy wow thank you for that! And I’m happy you dig the prices too - it’s really fun even to go back and watch old videos to compare and see where things were.
I’m a huge fan of MtG lore. If I had planned to start that ramble I would have been a bit more organized though 😅 is there a set or topic you’d like to see covered in a future video?
16:48 yes! I was talking to my yugioh seller about this the three pillars are collectors, players, and sellers if you remove one of those pillars you destroy everything. Yugioh over printed cards making them worth nothing to collectors who invest in these cards that a net loss for sellers it’s the same if the buy a set and sit on it there’s a chance it’ll tank in price
Its a controversial topic for any card community - the division of value assigned to a card VS the soul of the game itself. I have a strong opinion on this - maybe worth exploring in video form
The Meathook at the end saved it, but great opening! I personally enjoy the Universe Beyonds sets, but I see the sentiment about how it has even found its way to the standard sets. It's just hard to compete with the Pokemon IP.
We NEEDED the save. Had I not gotten so much of a kick out of the old art and nostalgia I probably would have been sounding a lil less happy that entire time lmao
I was channeling all of my bleeding heart into that moment l m a o. TBH I didnt realize we were doing THAT bad up until that point. Maybe the future boxes will help even us out haha
I love Innistrad one of my favorite MTG planes for sure. I wasn't interested in a remaster set i try to stick to standard legal sets for my focus and $ definitely some cool chase cards in the set
Prices are looking to settle at some very attractive entry points. IDK that retro foil huntmaster being 70 odd cents just crushed my magic boomer soul. And dont get me started on the 50 cent foil borderless Brutality
The price of this one is tough - it will be really interesting to see how box prices go over the next 90 days - year. Im hoping with the singles tanking that I'll be able to scoop some more up at a decent price to open in the future
Well individual card prices have tanked nearly 100% from that set and continue to. Doubt the sealed collector boosters will though due to serialized cards. But if your interested only in the aesthetic the regular boosters are pretty affordable. I've cracked a CB box and it's cards lost over $400 in value in 3 days. The horror posters art cards have dropped over $150 since release
@@anthonymuccillo that’s brutal. Right now we have a heavy saturation of new singles in the market. As long as wizards doesn’t throw the valuable cards from this into more sets as reprint I think this product will do fine in the long-term.
My chase hit was the one and only waifu from innistrad…. Emrakul! And I got the poster, retro border, and holo retro border! I also got a retro meat hook massacre!
Right?! It shows just how much of the value of it was supported on the scarcity of the printing. Luckily for me I’ve still got price memory of a year ago when it was 10 cents lol 😂
@@CHRiSC4SPER Honestly I didn't go look as I was midgame, but there was a lot of very loud shouting followed by complaints from others saying that they should have bought that last pack. XD
Universes beyond is good when its still in the realm of magic, nobody want a cleopatra or iron man… Also sets have less and less impact on us because they print them too often and other formats than edh are dying these years. People use to follow cards and meta way more now you dont have to update your commander deck that much every sets so people don’t keep track of new editions apart from a couple of singles
I agree with that part about sets having less of an impact. It really feel like the lore is moving at such a fast pace its hard to keep up with. Following the story over the year and having the lil cliffhangers was equally a part of collecting and playing for me. I do like what they do with UB - the backtrack with them being standard playable was rough
The "this does not feel like magic" critique has been thrown out since the 90's. People got anoyed bacuse of Kamigawa, Phyrexia, Amonketh and more, magic has allways been about exploring all kinds of different fantasy concepts and it is great at that. Also, most players do enjoy UB, its just a very angry minority on the internet that makes it seem like a problem. Also, product overload begun years before the first Unverses Beyond set, alongside "fire" design arround the time of Throne of Eldraine.just
@@diegom8619 this^ yea spot on. It’s for sure a situation of history doesn’t always repeat but it does rhyme. I’m pretty sure through the video when I get to that part I echo a bit of what you’re saying.

Me either :\ I Didn't intend any clickbait - my goal of the video was to ask the question will we pull it? Watch to find out
