I am Brazilian residing in Guyana (I actually lived in Adventure, Essequibo Coast for about 8 years until I moved to Berbice). I love history and I came upon a book written by a Catholic nun called Menezes. reading her book made wonder how so many Portuguese barely left traces of their culture, language and cuisine in Guyana. Being Brazilian, I am almost completely Portuguese and it saddens me that Portuguese culture in Guyana is nonexistent. I do understand their descendants left the country during the troubles and after independence, but still, there should have to remain a lot of it. Anyways, good job, Mr. De Souza (That`s one of my names as well!)
The Portuguese are such an important part of the history of Guyana but now their numbers have diminished considerably. Part of my family is Portuguese but I cannot remember hearing a different language. Perhaps like the Chinese Guyanese, the language was forgotten after a few generations. Maybe the same thing will happen to the new immigrants from Spanish speaking countries.
Hello! This is my grandmother Claudia DaSilva. I was just there recently to visit her & would love to get in contact with you. I am very much interested in family history and look forward to speaking with you soon & sharing information. Take care.
