    You are a great builder Paul! You pay so much attention to the little details! I've been learning so much watching your vlogs. I've been a subscriber since the mad county build series. We are getting ready to have our post frame house put up. We are going to have the building, concrete, spray foam, framing, & drywall done and do the electrical, plumbing, & finishes ourselves. I just hope I have someone as good as you build our post frame home. We are still looking for a builder here in Indiana. Thank you so much for being a great teacher. Nicole

    Question: I have white rat guard trim on a Barndominium and notice a bit of surface rust forming on top of the rat guard, under where the panels rest, in more shaded areas of the building. Is there a market solution for this or is the suggestion to caulk / silicone and paint to Rustoleum? My idea was maybe a piece of thin PVC angle that you could slide in between the bottom of the panels and top of rat guard, maybe 1/16" thick, to protect it long term.

    You can also bend the bottom leg for ends then make you tab and cut excess off I use similar trim with steel buildings both methods work all perspective

    That’s what I call sheet metal origami. No amount of schooling can teach this, it comes with being a problem solver by trade.
    Nicely done.

But being a guy trying to get his building done for 3.5 yrs right after I lost my mother, you have been a great help and I love hank you. Cannot get anyone to do it for me, thinking everyone is just really busy or they just don’t want my money. Lol. So anyway, keep up the good work and have a blessed day!!

    I have rat guard...but my barn is post and beam with gravel pad. What can I do to protect from rodents digging under. It has a 2x6 treated from beam to beam...40x60. I am in 4 foot frost .
    Should I just dig out( but how deep and far and pour concrete over wire?

    I know this is probably a really dumb question but could you put this along the ends of walls in an apartment to keep rats out?

      Yes, that's on of the main reasons they are called a rat guard.

    looks good to me, things that might help is a tin knockers hammer, it will work better than that nylon thing your using. might consider using a scratch awl to mark things but they are unforgiving if you make a mistake. I never did architectural metal only HVAC metal, but I made my own fittings generating them from dimensions with trigonometry.

      Thanks! Tin knocker would definitely be helpful. Pica make colored pencils we need to try.

    Is this product sold as rat guard trim I am going to build a lean to off the back of my garage using the ribbed steel and I don't care for rats

    • @MrPostFrame
      @MrPostFrame  2 года назад

      Yes, most refer to it as "rat guard". This piece of trim does prevent the entrance of rodents and insects, but mainly acts as a base for the setting of or metal panels. You'll see that we add this trim on top of a color matched piece of flat metal. That truly acts as our rodent proofing. When this building is finished dirt will be filled in to just under that rat guard trim.
