    The Belle call is actually reasonable. The player is familiar with “or” effects being negated when the choice is on resolution, which is also why people have a hard time with lingering destruction effects versus Stardust Dragon. If you have never has sh explanation on these things before it’s pretty easy to understand why someone might be lost

      From what I've gathered, Tidying targeting is on its activation rather than its resolution, so it can dodge Belle by refusing to target shit in the GY.

      That's what I thought as well, yeah... It's a complete mess that just makes everything more confusing than it has to be.
      It's like how there are cards which can "negate effects at point of resolution", which involves entirely different rules to a normal negate.

    • @Nico2718_
      @Nico2718_ Год назад

      Yeah, it does make total sense now, but I remember Coder explaining that you can Belle Gamma even if there's no Driver in the gy, because it has a effect that contains that action, therefore it has the possibility to execute one of the effects listed on Belle. But now it makes sense actually: if the effect you active on activation restricts outside of the "Belle radar", it no longer has the possibility to execute one of the listed actions and therefore cannot be Belled.

  • @tehy123
    @tehy123 2 года назад +163

    for everyone confused about Belle:
    the "includes an effect which" type effects can negate an effect which could, on resolution of the effect, do something that these card negate, even if that's not necessarily how the opponent is using that card. For example an effect which could summon a monster from hand or grave could be negated by Belle, because with that kind of effect you don't usually say which one you are doing beforehand but rather activate the card and then - if your opponent doesn't negate it - you summon from either hand or graveyard. That's important because, even if you were planning to summon from the hand, your opponent doesn't know that, you can't prove that, and you could still change your mind depending on if some other effects are chained (maybe your opponent Mind Crushes the monster you were trying to summon out of hand?) However if the card forces you to declare what you're doing on activation, or there's some other reason why you can't change your mind post-activation, then as long as you're not doing something Belle can negate, it can't be used. For Tidying, you declare the targets on activation, so you can't change your mind later.

    IDK about modern versions of goat format, but back then priority to normal summon was a thing... but only at beginning of a main phase.
    For example, player could enter MP1 and immediately tribute summon DMOC before any spell speed 2 effects are activated. So I can understand if player didn't realize priority to normal summon was only upon entering main phase.

You have the opportunity to respond to the timing created by a chain that finish resolving starting with the turn player, but remember in respond to timing only one chain, the chain can become a very high number, but once that chain resolve, it created a new timing that you can responde to.

    for the belle card call as an avid belle user master duel lets you chain belle to cards that have an OPTION of targeting something from the graveyard even if they arent being targeted in the grave such as raidraptor call/nest (forgot which one it was) but it lets you add a card from the deck or gy and i was able to chain belle to it in MD so I assume thats what he was thinking since thats how the card works in MD

    • @DistantCoder
      @DistantCoder  2 года назад +11

      No, Belle gives you the option to chain it to an effect which “CAN interact with the GY WITHOUT targeting” (for example Psy-Framegear Gamma without Driver in the GY) as opposed to if an effect only targets cards on the field and thus would have no interaction with the GY, belle cannot be chained.

    • @ComaDoccYT
      @ComaDoccYT 2 года назад +2

      No, I think you understood the effect incorrectly, since the card you're talking about (raidraptor nest) does not target when adding the effect can be either, you can't chain belle to an effect resolving so you are allowed to blanket it. In the scenario of this video the effect already declares which cards will be involved (since it targets), as such you can already know if he will be summoning from grave or not, so you can chain ghost belle if he targets from grave.

    • @anacreon212
      @anacreon212 2 года назад

      Yea that is a MD ruling thing, I think the reasoning is the effect gives the player the Option to do something to the gy Belle can be used regardless of if the player takes that option or not. I think thats how its coded in MD anyway

    • @SoggyWaffles.
      @SoggyWaffles. 2 года назад +6

      @@anacreon212 It has nothing to do with MD. As the others have corrected, if there is the possibility of a card moving from the GY then Belle can be activated, but here the Tidying targets are chosen at activation, so there is no ambiguity on whether a card will be returned from GY to hand at resolution.

      @@ComaDoccYT Number one when did he mentioned Raiders nest he mentioned Psy-frame ,
      Number to his point is specifically Bella can interact with cards with the option to Affect the graveyard If it’s optional IF (and this is an important one) The option isn’t known on activation. However with affects such as tidying that targets on activation it is already known they aren’t targeting the graveyard which was what Distant coder was getting at in the video
      The reason why drivers psy-frame and red raptor nest can get negated is because their options do not target on activation. If you activate raid raptors nest with the intention to add one specific targets in the graveyard which is your only raid raptor and your opponent calls by the Grave it, you still can add from the deck instead because raidraptor nest never declared that card the confirm target. I repeat this raidraptor nest “does not target”

    Do we go by official rulings as it relates to Master Duel?
    If so, I've had blossom shut down my one for one before a target was designated (I was going to use it on a monster in hand) > also I didn't have any remaining targets in deck.

    • @iceweaver9283
      @iceweaver9283 2 года назад +2

      Effect of one for one does not target. That is the point here. If it said "Send one monster from your hand to the gy, then target monster in your hand or deck; special summon that monster" what you are saying would make sense. But because you have the choice of what to summon on the resolution of the card it can be ashed. Here belle can't be used cause the target is a card that is not in the gy, and the card targets as part of its activation so the effect that will happen does not include any of the belle's conditions.

      @@youtube-kit9450 oh no no no no no we cannot do that in real life we need the simulation ( Omega or YGO pro) to act as someone checking if the cards are being played correctly and you’re right but you would have to make a tangible effort to not look at the left side of your screen to avoid accidentally reading. The only way to avoid this would be to change the language and that could make navigate me to the game very annoying when going to try and duel

    I get the confusion with the GOAT tribute summon. It works just like that in MTG where once things are done resolving, you immediately return to an open game state. In which case you can do non quick things before the opponent can do quick things.

      Yeah, but this is GOAT, a format based on a version of Yugioh from 18 years ago. Nobody starts with playing GOAT. Someone playing GOAT has invariably played modern Yu-Gi-Oh! before moving over to GOAT, and the rules of GOAT are incredibly simple in that the only changes to the rules are those which are relevant to 2005. There should have been no confusion whatsoever.
