    3 other things that can make fish hide:
    1. They have staked out a territory.
    2. There is a light behind us and as we approach the tank the shadow we cast spooks the fish.
    3. The tank is too brightly lit. Fish that come from blackwater or water where there is plenty of driftwood or overhanging plants may not feel secure in a brightly lit tank - so they head for cover. I have found that have more subdued lighting on my oscar tank has calmed my fish down and lowered the aggression significantly.

    hi! thank you so much for being informative! this video really helped me. i have 3 male guppies and they are new. no issues about nipping so far or bullying but Tofu has the tendency to be shy when I approach the tank, he hides. he ends up staying there for a minute or so until I leave/aren't too close to the tank. but then once he doesn't see me he then becomes a normal, active guppy with his friends. they have a heater, filter and air pump that isn't causing high water flow, that all are constantly on. the guppies are very active and the tank has been pre-cycled. I think he might just be scared of me since it's been a day since he was introduced to a new tank.

    Thank you for this video. A few of my guppies are hiding in a cave I have in my tank. As you know guppies don't usually hide. This behavior started about a week ago. When you said that the fish may be sick a light bulb went off. I ran to my tank and started watching them carefully. I noticed after watching them for a few minutes that they have signs of internal parasites. I'm pretty sure that's what's going on so I'm going to treat them and see how it goes. Again, thank you!

    Had Neon Rainbows that hovered in one place only. Moved out a pearl gourami who was alittle aggressive, but it didn't make any difference. Added more plants. No change. Decided take out the power head after seeing a display of them smiling calmly around the tank. Seemed like they liked the current, but it must have been too much. Now they occupy more than one place in the tank and seem to be less stressed when I walk up to it. It really does take some investigation sometimes. Good video.

      yea for some reason one of my tetras (pink) is bullying one of my tetras (green), in fact its not only him all my other fishes (also tetras and angelfish), except for one are bullying him too. idk if its because they're territoriall fish, bc the green tetra always stays behind this one bick rock in the left corner of or tank, and the rets chill everywhere else. or if its becuase they're starving, even though i feed them alot which might be a bad idea. and today the green tetra was just straight up missing, it hought that one of the fishes just ate him, but then a couple mins kater he popped out of nowhere, so i guess he was just tryna hide from them now which is kinda sad bc they all used to be friends. i also dont know why he stays behind the rock all the time, maybe its his territory, but if so, th eother fishes sometimes go to the back and attack him too, or maybe he just scared.

    Great tips as usual :) I learned the hard way to research fish 1st don't trust the fish store. They should at least know what size tank a fish needs and how aggressive they are haha. Nothing worse to me than watching peaceful fish being terrorized by a so called peaceful fish. They need to add more fish to the semi aggressive list. I think some are far from peaceful and with any kind of aggressive tag we will know not to buy these. I really don't like to return fish but I had the fish store sell me yoyo loaches for a small peaceful community tank. They got too big and chased everything in the tank nonstop.. I ended up with Zebra and Kuhli loaches which are truly peaceful.

We do have a huge rock that has a hole in it that he may be hiding in. We have looked everywhere else. We also lost one of our catfish. Hopefully they are only hiding. We have a mixture of Neons, guppies, angel fish, gold gourami, white skirt, catfish, zebra and a variety of tetras. But they are all community and I haven’t seen any bullying. My small pink catfish (11 years) was alone for a year in his tank. He used to have a mate gold fish and two janitor fish but they all died. We all got them together.
    I bought a two new glowfish as his mates but I noticed they've been hiding in one corner. I never suspected bullying because the catfish is weak already and it usually doesn't move around and is usually lethargic except for eating. Then i caught it pushing those two new fishes on the corner :--( i had to get another tank for the two new glowfish.

    I’ve been having this issue with one of my tanks. I’ve got a 8” parrot chichlid, 6” male jack Dempsey, and 6” male & female bloodmouths (not a mated pair) in a 120 gallon. All of them hide from the blood parrot, and the blood parrot even hides a lot. The blood parrot was alone in this tank for awhile before I started adding. Is he(she?) just super territorial? He seemed more stressed and anxious when he was alone in the tank but now no one seems happy. I see all these videos with tanks of big cichlids swimming around with each other and it makes me realize there’s some major disfunction in my tank.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  5 лет назад +1

      That could be a big part of it, the parrot was used to the whole tank being his territory. A lot of times when you see the larger SA cichlids working out it’s because they were added together when they were small, or the tank is over stocked to reduce aggression towards any one fish.

I know, you arent suppose to mix the South American and African Cichlids, but i found a couple people online saying it worked for them so i wanted to give it a shot. The Jack Dempsey has been chasing them around every once in a while the past day. No biting just chasing them around briefly. Male Bettas will usually kill each other if kept together. Females bettas left with males bettas are often killed if they don't form a pair, and the female may be killed even after they breed. Two female bettas will usually fight if left in a small tank. I would separate the two of them.

      Ayush Kumar goldfish aren't tropical, shouldn't be in a tank with those fish, it will either be too hot for the goldfish or too cold for the other ones. Also I really hope either the betta fish are girls or have a divider. Even with two girls if it's to small...

The only way they could have hide is in a shell. But I don't think so since the shell is not that big. And I have about two inches of sand in the bottom. Any idea what could have happened to them. i have had a black moor for around a year in a very small tank which resulted in him not growing really at all. i recently purchased a 30 gallon tank off an old couple who had tropical fish inside. there was four tiger barbs and two gouramis. without really agreeing to it i ended up with the fish previously in the tank. i knew the tigers would be problematic with a black moor but i tried it and they have nipped his tail a few times but mostly leave him alone. my parents won’t let me take the tigers out of the tank for a week though so that the black moor can “settle in” but the black moor is just in the corner all the time and i would hate it if he died.

      Goldfish don't last as long as other fish when they are not eating. Their stomachs are smaller and need a more consistent supply of food compared to other types of fish. I would try to get the other fish back to a petstore as quickly as possible. The gourami will most likely be an issue at some point as well. Hope everything works out ok!

    I'm at my wits end :( my four adult platys have all been hiding since I did some tank maintenance for the first time in a month because there were new fry (30% water change, gravel vacuumed, trimmed/moved around some water sprite, cleaned the glass), and their fry are swimming around like nothing happened. The adults have all been huddled under my sponge filter and seem really spooked ever yesterday when I did the maintenance. I'm able to entice them out with food and they eat normally, but when mealtime is over, they go right back to hiding. Water parameters are perfect, and there's no sign of disease. They're usually so active and friendly, so this is a drastic behavior change. Did I really just scare them with their first major tank cleaning? I feel like I betrayed their little fishie trust :(
