Doing some kinds of clubswinging was common for fencers in the past, it should be come back today! Thank you for spreading it to the world! And keep on your good work!
I cannot help but think about Duncan Macleod during this video. Adrian Paul was the best Highlander. It looked like he actually knew how to his super bad @$$ katana
I do something similar all the time with a dowel when I warm up. It never occurred to me there might be a club version but this looks way more bad @$$ with a club. Excellent video =)
Just found your videos and I will be going back through them. What club weight would you recommend for some that has just gotten over the worst of shoulder impingement and tennis elbow? I'm pretty de-conditioned.
Same problem though Mark: as someone who's got several lower back issues i've been told and instructed not to train lateral movements, as these would worsen my spinal condition. I guess club swinging is out of the question for me...
I have wondered of those X shaped bar maces may have actually been a training tool more than a weapon. Since they're quite heavy and it would be much less effective to hit someone with the "pits" of the x rather than the points. Though, one could say hitting someone with the flat of a sword isn't too useful either but it doesn't mean they aren't weapons.
Mark, thank you, I am worried that this might be bad advice for sword or light weapons conditioning, why, because I feel the focus there is on speed, accuracy and flexibility to switch direction. This may make strokes stronger, but actual good sword technique may take a hit for sacrificing practice time on power. Idk, weapons in my mind fall more on your prehab, rehab end of the swings and mills. Maybe one of the videos you could reflect on it.

This a Karlakattai movement (Sutra). Very interesting to see it adapted in modern style. You really know your stuff
I can attest that these have improved my historical fencing, and have made it so I don't get tendon injuries so often.
Sword flair with that weight tho 👀
Believe it or not, it’s human
My wrist would crack
Those Hephaestus clubs look amazing.
Its cool to see you use crazy amount of weight
Long way to go before I get to these but ya looking forward to this. Thank you again!!!
Excellent video. Starting to see it all come together. More Q&As please. That lady is incredible!

8:07 I like the way you picked that up.
in saber that is called a moullinet or "little windmill" and a key component to Polish and Military Saber schools. i need to get some clubs...
Do it! ADEX is the most versatile.

All strength is functional.
True, but moving in multiple planes has more real-life carry over. Think medicine ball throws for boxers or rope-climbing for wrestlers.
Thanks!
"You can't do this in the gym."
Me, using my heavy clubs in my gym.
I think it’s not very common for heavy clubs to be in a gym
Huzzah!

Something New!!!

Can you do this with a mace?
MW is the god of clubs ❤
Finally some new moves.....so sick of casts and mills
I think I’ll stick with Indian clubs for these!

You just need a shield in the other hand. TUT like a mug!

It's about working certain muscle chains and it's a load in principle
It's like an elbow upper cut
Of course it helps, plus it looks cool.
Try it.
