He is Stark and Targaryen. Because of Jon basically everyone is alive because he convinced everyone that the Night King and his dead army are coming for them. He came back to life because supposedly he was the promised king. He took back Winterfell after Ramsey took over. So all of that just for him to end up at the wall while everyone else got a happy ending? He deserved a better ending.

I think the ending was always going to be similar to how it ended, with Jon and Danny, but what upset me the most was how ruthlessly cut short it was. The story was not given the time or respect it demanded in one super short season. If directors are going to put their name to a television phenomenon then they MUST give it the respect and the time it needs to fulfill the epic story line. I can not watch it again as I know how it ends poorly and quickly and I will never be able to put faith in shows/movies made by the same producers D & D.
