@@matthewcollins5344 Of course it counts if they reached the top. The whole point of my post, is that they were first, nothing about getting back down.

Looks like command of English improved significantly since 1996. It was almost impossible to understand what Sherpas even Sirdars were saying judging by radio communications and transcripts prepared after the tragedy. It’s one of the many improvements that occurred since then that made climbing safer for everybody in my opinion. Communication is very important.
@@BalletomaneM My friend who lives in Annapurna, not far from Everest told me everyone has mispronounced "Sherpa" so long, they sometimes use that pronunciation. It's "Shar-wa". They gave up on their traditional pronunciation. The older generation still uses the old ways and won't conform. Simple life, hard work, less stress. I'd live in Nepal but its too dang cold!!!
@@BalletomaneM i get your sentiment but english is more widely spoken than nepalese. Ive seen many mountaineering videos and many seek to explore culture and learn religious practices, some words and are respectful travellers. If many languages meet, english is often central to the majority..the majority of the time.
It's sad. They did it together. The who touched the tippy top first...is BOTH of them because they couldn't have made it without each other. Of course, each country is going to want to say their guy was the very first...and they were. I'd say having someone sign something that says "you" made it first puts that into serious doubt. It's a shame and shameful that they'd make Norgay sign his name to something knowing that he couldn't read. Competition ruins the true achievement which was BOTH of them reached the top together.
Then nobody would go and they wouldn’t be wealthy anymore, they wouldn’t own land and they wouldn’t be able to send their kids to private schools. Your suggestion and most of the dumb suggestions people make white knighting and virtue signaling for the Sherpas would destroy the incredible economy that these expeditions create for the locals. Just stop. You’re dumb and it’s cringe
Sure they could if they felt necessary but did you not hear the one Nepalese person say that the Sherpas have obtained wealth from this job, many own land and send their kids to private schools bc of it. Not sure why you people believe that just bc they are not white that they aren’t paid well. They have agency for themselves. They aren’t slaves. And if they decided they would make more money chopping word, being a herder or something else, then that’s what they would do.
And if it was for the westerners, the Sherpas wouldnt climb it and even worse the local community wouldn’t have the incredible economy that these expeditions create… resulting in Sherpas gaining wealth, owning land, and putting their kids thru private schools.. while also supplying wealth to the rest of the community from adventurers buying supplies, food, crafts, souvenirs and more. Everyone knows the Sherpas are an important part of the team and they are respected by all other than the dumbest of the dumb. Not sure the point of your comment.
Without Sherpas, there would be NO expeditions for us to watch! They did it to survive and feed their families. Many others did it for pride & arrogant
What’s your point? And without the expeditions the Sherpas wouldn’t have gained the wealth they have and like the doc said, bc of working as a Sherpa many own land and send their kids to private schools. You virtue signaling white knights are weird. Everyone respects the Sherpas and they have their own agency to decide if they want this job and if it makes sense for them. They don’t need your help.
Why would they go on strike? Even the video said they have generated great wealth from working as Sherpas and as a result own land and send their kids to private schools. Not to mention, these “cheap skates” pay them thousands and thousands of dollars to work for them so - for the other commenter - I have no idea where you came up with that idea. Thirdly, if Sherpas refused to work and shut down expeditions, they would ultimately get replaced but first they would destroy the incredible local economy that these expeditions create in this incredibly isolated part of the world that would otherwise have no way to create the type of wealth that it has. These people work - happily - with these adventurers bc it makes economic sense for them. They aren’t slaves and if they could make more money cutting wood or hearding sheep then that’s exactly what they would be doing.
Sir Ed and Tenzing agreed that their official story was that they did it together-at the sme time, what difference does it make, given that they would have been seconds apart when standing up there?
Two men at the peak of their powers went up a mountain together as a team. Team achievements must be a strange concept to you to nit-pick who was walking in front for the last 5 metres.
@@samblack5313 Team? Don't think so chap. The Sherpa is a bit part player, a supporting role, he's not allowed to be the star making a fortune from his exploits. That's how it is. What do you mean they get compensated very little? Did you watch the documentary? They said that Sherpas have gained great wealth from working with the climbing expeditions. Bc of the work, they get to own land and send their kids to private schools. Did you just make that up that they aren’t compensated well? Not to mention, the reason why they are compensated well is bc they don’t have to do the job if it doesn’t make economic sense for them. They aren’t slaves or lesser people… you do know that, right? And more so, the expeditions create an incredible economy for the rest of the locals as well in one of the most isolated places on earth that otherwise wouldn’t exist. We all respect the Sherpas and you know what? They don’t need you to white knight and advocate for them based on nonsense. They do very well for themselves. They have agency and are big boys .. and although people always have problems here and there with their jobs, it’s a job and they do it bc it pays them money to live their lives.
I guess you didn’t watch this and hear they said that Sherpas have gained wealth working in their job with many of them owning land and sending their kids to private schools bc of it. Everyone believes they should be paid more and maybe in some situations they should be but these people have agency of their own, this isn’t forced labor and if they thought they could make more money elsewhere they would do it. But they can’t. They make several of not over ten thousands of dollars on each expedition, which for this incredibly isolated region is tremendous. Not to mention, these expeditions create a flourishing economy for many many other locals who sell them the supplies and food they need along with crafts, souvenirs and everything else

The awsome sherpas every time 😍

Aren't there two steps and one could be renamed?

And Everest should be called chomolunga. Nothing up there is as it should be. The quest for her should be stopped!

Bravo!

GRACIAS!
I have always believed that Mallory & Irvine made it to the top.
If ya don’t make it back down does it really count🤷🏼♂️ They did some incredible climbing but they never made it back to the bottom🙏🙏🙏
they never made it
@@aalleexx1997 Yeah, cause you would know! Pfft!
@@matthewcollins5344 Of course it counts if they reached the top. The whole point of my post, is that they were first, nothing about getting back down.
I believe Odell saw them at the first step, They had not the boots to climb the second step and Irvine had not the skill. If the went Nortons and Maybe Messners route across the yellow band to the
Coulthard Maybe, but that's not where they were last seen. If Sandy Irvines body is found and Maybe the camera it would solve the mystery
Looks like command of English improved significantly since 1996. It was almost impossible to understand what Sherpas even Sirdars were saying judging by radio communications and transcripts prepared after the tragedy. It’s one of the many improvements that occurred since then that made climbing safer for everybody in my opinion. Communication is very important.
good point. next, lets teach the british how to speak english.
Good point, let's have the westerners learn the language of the country the mountain is in.
Yes 👍
I'm afraid of heights so U tube is as close to Everest as I'm going to get
Looks like hard work for me I'll stay home and watch the kids
Anyone who has been involved in team sports understands what happened.
New upload! How do these stay up without getting copystriked?
youtube doesnt care about copyrights, only censoring free speech
These Sherpa’s should be charging these people at least 5 hundred thousand dollars each!
If you don't climb the mountain don't worry life is its own mountain climb that.
My mum swears to me she used to walk this way to school
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I really enjoy watching this at sea 🌊 level.
I'm acclimating in the Worcester Hills.
They made it to the summit but did they get back down?
The sherpas need to start a union.
That’s a good one.
If it weren’t for the Sherpas, many modern-day climbers wouldn’t be there. Respect.
Holding up tent for hours??!! Triple pay better be handed to these real climbers.
Climbs the best
DANG...If God wanted people to climb this mountain he would have built stairs there!!!!!
Huh? Such a dumb statement for so many reasons I don’t know where to even start.
Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. if it wasn't them on that day it would've been no-one.
@5:22 isn’t that wrong?
What will happen if Sherpas ever went on a strike?
They would be replaced by other Nepalese prepared to work for the $1 per day, the amount these cheapskate mountaineers are prepare to pay them!
Lol, definitely the Sherpa got to the summit first, it's not something you are likely to forget...
Ed would have led the way till the final few feet.....only Ed had the skill and strengh to get there...
@@drphilgee6430 if only ed had the skill and strength, does that mean he carried tenzing?
Sir Ed and Tenzing agreed that their official story was that they did it together-at the sme time, what difference does it make, given that they would have been seconds apart when standing up there?
Two men at the peak of their powers went up a mountain together as a team. Team achievements must be a strange concept to you to nit-pick who was walking in front for the last 5 metres.
@@samblack5313 Team? Don't think so chap. The Sherpa is a bit part player, a supporting role, he's not allowed to be the star making a fortune from his exploits. That's how it is. Sherpas still get compensated very little it's sad that wasn't the purpose to take advantage of such a humble I honestly believe that Hillary gave tenzing that summit out of respect for tenzings people Hillary foundation further substantiates this Peter is juts like his father I've met Edmund Hillary 1 time and still feel his presence tenzing I have not but I could feel tinzing there
What do you mean they get compensated very little?
I think 18ft is my height limit before i go woozy
I don't think Sherpas are paid enough for what they do for their families
There's an even higher mountain but it's hidden from view by mount Everest ,,but my friend Alphonse has a Sherpa friend who is his pen friend and he shown alphonce it when alphonce went there for an holiday ,alphonce didn't climb the secret mountain on his holiday ,but he did climb Everest his friend knew a short cut to the top of Everest that very few people knew
Alphonce is going cave diving with an underground Sherpa to guide him ,on his next holiday to Himalaya, He has a friend who works in a travel office ,and he's , going to get him a cheap flight to Himalaya,
Alphonce bought a nice Persian carpet from Himalaya when he went on a coach tour to a Himalayan carpet factory ,and he got a 10 %price.reduction
Alphonce brought me toffee pick axe souvenir from Himalayan, and an Everest snow bauble
It's a plastic bauble with a mount Everest model inside it in water and when you shake it

@@DuecePiece it is a tall tale , the tallest mountains base is buried in a huge amount of snow and you can't see the base of it ,but my friend alphonce and his friends were there for a very long time clearing it away and measuring it ,Then after all that the officials from the Himalayan town council came along and made them place all the snow back ,so it was still picturesque,
They said they didn't want the neighbours to keep ringing up the council offices complaining every five mins ,that it wasn't as picturesque as it used to be .
Alphonce told me he wished him and his friends hadn't bothered measuring it in the first place and not all his friends who removed the snow would help to put it back

I SAID BECAUSE ITS THERE
She said you won't even clear the leaves and rubbish from the guttering on the roof of her house , ,I said you don't need a ladder to climb Helvellyn ,and the man next door won't lend me his ladders after I never gave him his cup of sugar back that he lent me six months ago ,he told me in the pub not to ask for anything else to lend , I told him it was only a small cup full
