Wow let me just say I'm new to the chromebook world and the only reason I purchased a chromebook was it ran Android apps. How surprised I was when I found out that you couldn't install apks from 3rd party sources. Here it is 2022 and this video still helped me out tremendously. Thank you for your easy to follow instructions. Again big ups to you for making me enjoy my device.
You are a living saint and you have my full trust. Huge respect to you my man. I'm sideloading an apk that will help me load a linux iso onto my (non chromebook) computer to recover everything that got lost when it (kinda) corrupted. Basically i set the wrong boot partition and now bios wont even boot. This will be a huge help as i have no other computers.

@@kavellrhoden2400 😂😂 It is the type of reply you would get if the method or situation worked out just fine! It worked out great for me, hopefully it did the same for you!
Thank you man! This works very well for me! Although I do have one question; Is it possible to install an APK file that you have downloaded on one Chromebook account to another using this method or a similar method? In my case, I would like to install an APK file on my secondary account where Crosh, Terminal, etc… are blocked. Would it be possible to type a command into the terminal on my main account that would install my APK file on my secondary account on my Chromebook? Like: “adb install account:(Account Name) file.apk” ? Any feedback would help :)
I downloaded an APK called Happy mod that you can download other apks of mods for games or getting games for completely free but whenever I open it it just immediately closes and by the way I have a Samsung Chromebook so if that's the reason why it's not working please tell me why it's not working on my Samsung Chromebook
It doesn't work simply because it already install apk itself! You can't bypass typing in the normal commands to sideload apk in Terminal. It is required you type in the command in the "Terminal" every apk you sideload!
Friend, help me, save me from this, I had entered developer mode in the menu and then I regretted it because everything was going to be deleted, but when I reactivated the os verification, it came out, your device will restart and all the data, help me how to restore it or recover everything :(
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work on a Lenovo duet 3, running Chrome OS Version 126.0.6478.132 (Official Build) (64-bit). I have enabled linux from the beginning, I can open a terminal and it works fine. When I try to enable adb, I do get the message about restarting the device, but having tried this 4-5 times now, it just boots up normally, never asks me anything about enabling ADB and the aforementioned setting (which I turned on and selected to reboot) is still disabled. Any ideas?

trying to install the abd tool but I get a error saying unable to locate package android-tools-abd is there any how I can fix this I'm not sure why I'm receiving that error
Well, just because an app *can* be installed doesn't mean that it'll always work on your Chromebook when it is installed. There's a bit of a hit n miss factor with sideloading android apps in Chrome OS.
Hey i have been trying to install xiaomi notes.apk onto my chromebook through adb install but keeps getting missing shared library micloud-sdk, any solution how to fix? Or install any xiaomi apps?
what if you have obb files to install along side an apk? how do you handle those using linux? can i still just cut and paste them from the download folder to the android>obb files like i would if i was side loading apks like normal in android
I'm not sure about what you mean by your "using linux" question. To your questions about the OBB files though, you should be able to simply cut and paste them from the download folder to the android>obb folder. The process isn't all that different from how it is in Android.
@@OctillionthTech what do you mean you dont understand my "your using linux" question? This entire video is how to sideload apk files using linux. Some Chromebooks (they tend to be Chromebooks that came out in 2017 or before) do not have that option for some reason. If you can't find "Develop Android app...", then that probably means this method of sideloading will not work for your Chromebook.
hey bro i need to know if you can make a vid discussing about the problems that you might encounter when doing the adb install command? i would really appreaciate it. p.s. i encountered a problem
Hello I followed your instructions and everything went well. I installed apps everything is ok. But now if I try to install app I got this error Performing Stream install. What could be the problem.
Please forgive me as I am a complete newbie when it comes to using Linux but where do I find the app I want if I'm not installing it straight from the Appstore
Well, I do use the phrase "should be" on purpose. Firstly, some Chromebooks do not have the ability to run linux apps. Those Chromebooks would not have the options seen in the video. Secondly, I knew that the overall UI might change as ChromeOS continues to receive updates. It doesn't seem fair to use a more definitive phrase for something that is ever evolving and changing.
whenever I run the thing from terminal it says "E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct problem." so I don't know what to do
Have you tried doing what the terminal is suggesting by running "sudo dkpg --configure -a" in the terminal? Cause that should solve the error that you're running into.
I tried to install Call of Duty Mobile in that way. But it doesn't work. Anyone knows how to install it? Do I have to turn the developer mode on? Will it work in that way? Thank you
