A satellite is an object that orbits or goes around a planet. Satellites can be natural or artificial. An example of a natural satellite is the moon which orbits around the Earth. Artificial or man-made satellites are sent into space to do various things such as gather global weather information, send television signals directly to homes, provide phone communications, enable GPS locators, search for people in distress in remote regions and gather important data on space exploration.
