This was exactly what I was looking for! No one seems to like to cover the basics which is probably what I need the most. Thank you for this!
+foxur Great! So glad that I could help :) You should post a video response with you learning to hover, I think that would be sweet!
Haha i'll try! Might be a horrific crash lol. These days I found I'm a much better builder than I am a pilot. Please keep up the awesome work on your channel. The hobby needs more people like you.
+foxur haha, even if it is a crash, I'd love to see if this helps people! Thanks man, appreciate the comment. Hope to see you active on my videos :)
Great job, love this.
+FliteTest Thanks for taking the time to comment, I truly appreciate it coming from you guys :) Really looking forward to doing my bit for the community and hope to see you guys active on my videos!
oh awesome thanks
Finally, I've found a vid with an overlay of the autothrottle! This explains a lot.
I've watched most of your videos, yesterday at work. I'll just say thank you sir!! I'm new af to this hobby and fly a bwhoop bo6 in my house because it's cold. Yesterday I could fly straight, hit a wall and repeat. Today I'm navigating my house. I can now fly a whole battery through my house and not crash once!!! Truly amazing! Thank you
Just bought a Walkera F210. Did first flights. Going good so far and your vids and VERY, VERY helpfull. Fell in love in racing drones during CeBIT 2016 and finally leveled up a bit to handle F210. .That is a hell of a hobby! Regards from Poland and all the best FVP Academy
Finaly a comprehensive lesson !!! Thanks man your approach is extremely pedagogic and the liftof examples are perfect !
going to get my zmr250 tomorrow, will be my first fpv flight...before this i flew a couple toy quads, both of them got lost after 1 week....gonna try to take it really slow and hope i dont lose this expensive drone....watching these vids now...wish me luck!! cant wait til tomorrow :(
How are things going with your new quad. I can relate, my first quad I lost as well. It was a toy quad, a latrax alias. I just got another an xk 250 alien. I'm going to master that before I spend the money on a real racer.
Keep going, Jack. You're on the right way!
+VicDzen Thanks man, your comment really hit me hard. Was wondering if I was doing the right thing or not :)
+Jack FPV Definitely you are! Personally like your video edits and detailed commenting of everything. And you definitely have your own style, so keep going :)
Good Tip with the One handed technique .. The videos are coming along nicely
+Earl Pileggi Thanks man, appreciate the comment :)
Hi Jack, I'm so glad I found these vids. As a complete newbie I was trying to run before I could walk. I'll be much more confident next time out by following these and progressing sensibly. Fingers crossed
man this is the best video i have seen on you tube great job my man i own 4 drones and i want one more and hoovering is still the hardest thing man keep making those good videos
Hey Tyrone, thanks a lot for the comment man, appreciate it. Hope some of my latest videos can help you too! Cheers
Hove video is great. Never thought about flying around a fixed point.
Yep it makes all the difference!
Thanks for the instruction. Reminds me a lot of the instructions for flying rc chopper. Good work. Laughed my ass of regarding the chop your head off comment...
I'm just getting into fpv drones, and I've been looking everywhere for a good tutorial video that actually shows control inputs! this is amazing, and I can't wait to actually get my gear and start learning to fly~
It's the best thing ever! I hope these videos can help you a lot :)
Hi Jack, talk about perfect timing! I just finished my first build on a ZMR250, installing the FPV gear today EEEK. Iv only ever flown on Auto-level previously with the Phantom however found that it more or less flew itself with the GPS and auto level gear installed. I just got my 9xr Pro setup on my dual booted Mac and installed LiftOff and FPV Freestyle.
+Danny Linton Hey Danny, that's awesome! Definitely practice on Liftoff as much as you can before you fly in real life. Please post a video of your first flight!
Never thought to start with hovering but makes sense now
Great learning tips, great location.
+Christopher Jones South Africa is truly beautiful. Thanks man!
New subscriber... brand new to FPV... trying to educate myself better after just going for it in the empty parking lot and crashing in 25 seconds. Thanks for the great videos.
Great stuff man! Hoping these videos were able to help you a bit. Let me know! Cheers
Wow, this was super informative for someone who's just starting to dabble in this hobby. I'm really glad I found it.
Great stuff, so glad that I could help you :) Good luck with your flying!
Damn looks so fun to fly that field!
Attie Bishop field represent! Thanks for the great series.
Very helpful
Thank you, Jack.
I can see the amount of effort you put into this. I am going to try my very first fpv next week starting from almost 0, and I will do it following your tutorial. I will post back something to let you know how it goes, thanks a lot!
Hey Stozza! It's been 4 months. How did your flying go?
Let's say that I am improving :) I don't have a video to post yet, and if I had I would probably not be very proud to show, but I can fly and be in control of the quad. I am not very precise and not able to do any crazy trick. I will try to put something together from the hd cam from my last session and show you :)
Great video! I'm using RealFlight Drone sim and it works pretty well. I've flown 6G only for about 2 years. I've not flown' full Acro but I'd like to start and your vid's are GREAT for me to learn what I need to practice. Thank you!
This is exactly what I looking for. Great video Jack, please keep coming. I really appreciate your efforts to making this video. Thank you man.
+Mustafa Süzen Thank you for checking it out and taking the time to comment! Tons more videos in the pipeline. They do take a few days to make since it's a ton of work, but I'd rather sacrifice quantity for quality ;) Cheers man

Thanks Jack for awesome video. Bought myself Autel X-Star and loving. My first quad and loving it. I like to build a small FPV quad but have purchase a transmitter first. Not sure what to get in South Africa. Not really sure I do FPC racing but would like to do some FPV flying etc. Going go through more of your videos, looks like they be good. Thanks
Nice explanation, helped me out a lot. Cheers.
New favorite youtuber. Can't believe that simulator has progressed you to where you are on your first flight. I'm flying LOS and struggling to hover. I'm gonna pick up the simulator and hopefully improve my skills. I want to buy fpv gear in the future. Any suggestions that doesn't break the bank? Best of luck with your journey!
+haon15 Hah that means a lot! Thanks man!! Start with a secondhand ZMR kit with Quanum V2's. Best cheap and still fairly good quality kit to start out with on a budget.
Great content, thanks for the work that went into making
Go to flight controller settings and set expo on Roll and Pitch to 3, much easier to learn. Jack, do the same on your TX (whatever you need say 30%) and you will find it easier to hover.
Very nice tutorial
+Jan Bobis Thanks Jan!
great, I am 30 hours in doing the lift off. hehe might post a video on the progress soon hehe, but def be doing a maiden filght after 100 hour myself :) keep cranking em vids mate

Love it bro! :)
Cool Video Man!! Judging by your surroundings im guessing you are in the Cape somewhere?
Hey Scott, I;m in Hermanus, 2 hours away from CT.
What is that OSD you're using? That's pretty cool
Hi Jack, thank you for the awesome video series I was searching on something like this for quite a bit of time. I do have the Liftoff game but there is nothing in the tutorial section, do you know when the tracks you use will be available in the game? Once again thank you!
Hey! These tracks aren't working with the latest version of Liftoff anymore. I will be redoing these videos really soon and have the tracks available for download on the Liftoff Steam Workshop. Feel free to add me as a friend on Steam to get notified. Just search for FPV Academy. Cheers!
Great Job as usual! How about a video about race tracks? i´m totally depressed about my flying skills when i see how fast you getting better and better ;)
+Jibber Haha thanks man! A whole range of videos covering racing techniques and tips are coming up soon :) First Beginner videos, then Freestyle, then Race, then Advanced Moves
Nice tutorial... :-)
Thank you!
Thank you I need your videos I want to FPV but its not as easy as it looks.cheers
Glad I could help!! :)
Nice job man, you're nailing the videos. Hope to see more in the future :D
Also, I was wondering what editing software you use? It looks awesome!
Hey bro, thanks for the comment. I use Adobe Premiere Pro :)
In heaven I fly drones
why not here
Really helpful videos, thank you for your job. Can you tell a few words about start settings for quad in liftoff simulator? Which PIDs should begginers use at start? Should begginer use exponents in simulator or in his RC control?
Ground effect is not a pressure bubble
If you don't slice yourself or anyone else open, this is good, right? Thanks for these exercises. I thought I could fly until I got my Bugs 3. It's like starting all over. Cheers mate!
Great tutorial jack. Ok moving to FPV after time using self leveling line of sight. Aside of the flexibility acro gives you over self leveling, why that choice? Thanks.
Where did he got roll on? Left stick or right stick?
I'm not sure if you should start with hovering in ground effect. You usually wan't to avoid that low height, since it makes the movement of your quad less stable.
+BlackPixxelDE I like the idea of it as a "training wheels", Most first time FPVers tend to climb and then get off the throttle and bounce on the ground I think getting over the nerves in ground effect might be helpful at first. But yes the real control learning happens after that.
+BlackPixxelDE So the reason I started with practicing in ground effect is so that they only have to worry about 1 stick. Just the roll and pitch. Once they have that nailed down, they can move on to the next exercise. With ground effect the quad will be unstable yes, but as I beginner I believe the pro's outweigh the cons.
Hello, can I replace a small drone I lost and continue flying with the same controller and googles?
I bought a combo. Do I need to make settings with the new quad? Thanks
how do you get your fpv drone to fly acro, Any advice just bought a hitec fpv quad but it only goes side to side but stays flat can't make it flip or anything!
@FPV Academy Are your maps still on the Liftoff Workshop? I can not seem to find any of the FPV Academy maps. I was hoping to use them in game since I am new to FPV quads.
Where is the link to tracks in liftoff you mention in the video?
Hi, I love your videos... I am actually learning to fly my drone but I saw that EXPO should be set... I would like to know what is the ideal value to set the EXPO, on my remote control, so that I can learn to fly and race (later) with the same values... another way to ask the question is : what is the EXPO racers usualy race with? (if there is) thanks (from Canada)
Hey Claude! Great question. Definitely start flying with some expo when you start out. As you get better, you want to to drop it down. Keep me posted on your progress! Cheers
Nice!
+Christopher P. (MrToaf) Haha, how did you comment on this before it's even uploaded?
+Jack FPV it's a secret :) anyways I love what your doing, I'm learning on fpv freerider because my computer can't handle liftoff.
+Christopher P. (MrToaf) hahaha epic!! Yeah unfortunately you won't be able to practice some of the hovering techniques in this video on FPV Freerider since it's lacking some of the basic physics such as ground effect generated by the quad. I would seriously recommend getting Liftoff and even running it in a window on the lowest settings possible :)
+Jack FPV what's ground effect?
+Christopher P. (MrToaf) I'll explain in this video :) Should be live in about 30 minutes from now.
How to add the reffrence points you mention at 7:00, i dont see them.
I know these are geered for beginners, very good video though!
As you know the physics of Liftoff have changed, do you have recomended settings for advanced acro on the new version?
+Zenman FPV Thanks Zenman. Advanced videos covering some pretty hectic moves will also be rolling out as soon as these are under the belt. As for the physic in Liftoff, I'm currently running a betatesting version which has different physics from the one that you're currently running. Will see if I can get the settings from a mate that has the current version you guys are running though :)
+Jack FPV Very cool Jack! You have a very good teaching technique BTW
+Zenman FPV Thank you :) Hope it helps some guys get into this amazing hobby!
so basically you just U just use the right stick dead in the centre to hover?? thanks.
when lifting off my quad keeps going up at the same throttle as video (same quad) I am using a taranis plus. is this something with transmitter settings or in game setting?
Anyone know if the track to train hover are still in LiftOff ? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Was the camera at 5-10 degrees? Thank you.
Hi, nice video. Were can finde the track?
i add the tracks. Add it here, but the tracks are not in the Game
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Liftoff\Liftoff_Data\Tracks
Does the type of transmitter you have effect control in any way? I have a fairly cheap Fly-Sky transmitter and I feel like it maybe if getting a good $100+ transmitter might help me...
sweet video how do get liftoff and will it work wit a tananis +
+Ed Smith Hi Ed! To get Liftoff you need to download it from the Steam Store. Here's a link: store.steampowered.com/app/410340/ I also have a video on my channel showing you how to connect your Taranis to the Liftoff FPV Sim :) Let me know if you need any other help. Cheers mate
I have a ton of USB to USB mini is that all I need to use a taranis X9d plus on lift off sum?
I am practicing in VLOS now. I cannot afford good FPV gear. Do these tutorials apply to me?
download link for the track...?
Use all 4 sticks to get it back under control
Hey Jack, thank you for the video! I'm using it as my main guide for fpv!
I'm praticing on Liftoff the tutorial map, but i feel the drone very loose. It's difficult to keep in place (i only have 8h os pratice yet) but very few times and very few seconds that i succeed to align the poles
Someone said to change the rate, and my question is: is this cheating? I mean, in real life it will make things difficult for me cause i made those changes in the sim?
Thank you!
