Any rhyme or reason to all the squat and deadlift variations?

      Absolutely!
*Box Squats* and *Hex Bar Deadlifts* are both extremely *functional* which means they both translate directly into your vertical jump because it’s putting you in the perfect position - almost as if you’re ready to jump. Once I started doing both of these, I immediately noticed my vertical and overall athleticism increase.
You’re also not hitting full ROM *(range of motion)* compared to a full squat or a deadlift with a straight bar. Most athletes are easily able to load up to *120%* of their normal deadlift and full squat onto a hex bar or for a box squat.
I still hit full ROM squats on my *Belt Squat* and just as of recently I started doing *conventional deadlifts* again. This way, I’m able to recruit more muscles by hitting the full range of motion while also working on things like hip flexibility, low back & core strength.
I’ll also do *RDLs* on an *elevated surface* along with *low box squats* where I’m recruiting even more muscles and isolation both the hamstrings & quadriceps, respectively.
Incorporating all of these will keep the body on its toes & all you to avoid plateaus by switching it up on a daily/ weekly basis!

@@SkighAthletics thanks for the elaborate response!
Do you ever train body builders who also want to increase vertical jump?

Thank you, Zakary!! It's definitely been an amazing 13+ year journey of buying equipment, selling it, upgrading and shifting it all around to flow well, different homes, etc. It can be frustrating to move across the country with it but other than that it's the best!😂
