The thing I love about this tutorial is that you're demonstrating it without fancy equipment like a giant cutting table, or even a rotary cutter. When I see a tutorial where the person is using the fancy rotary cutter with the huge clear ruler and a bed-sized cutting mat, I feel like I can't make that item because I don't have those tools. Using the template and the scissors makes me feel like I could actually do that at my dining table, which is where I sew.
I made one of these about 25 years ago for my then little girl, she's 27 now and a busy mum. You have inspired me to make another and the best thing is I still have the same fabric I used before. Thank you Astar.
My mom and I made this quilt for my aunt while she was going through treatment’s for cancer. We made it in old rose solid on one side and a lovely old rose with white roses on the other. She absolutely loved it and cherished it until she passed. Thank you for the refresher and I’m definitely going to make one for myself and each family member for winter. It’s such a warm snuggly quilt you can almost use for a mattress. I’m delighted to see your wonderful instruction’s and your video was appreciated. Thank you for refreshing my lovely memories. Dee💖
I’m going to try my hand at making one of these for 2023. Bless you for sharing all your wonderful talents. I never got the hang of quilting, so I let my sister shine bright for her quilt making skills that are stunning.
These remind me of what my grandma use to have on all the beds in the rooms.. she passed when I was very young and I always wanted to know how to do this.. THANK YOU 🤗 FOR YOU REMIND ME OF HOME 💕
Don't you just love this woman?! Simply for the way she teaches us. And how she wipes everything of the table with such passion.... 😂. She makes me feel like I can make everything she teaches. What a lovely powerful woman❤
Hello Alice, a big welcome to my place / our place. If you need help with anything arty/crafty, gardening or??? If I can help, then help I will. The quickest way is to just DM to my @astarsplace on instagram. Warm regards Astar
I have only just discovered you and this wonderful video and I shall definitely watch again! ...And I mean this with absolute love when I say that you're like the Fanny Craddock of sewing... just wonderful!
to the ladies who want to know what type of material to use, I used basic sheeting cotton for the top, and old duvet cut up for the underneath of the puffs and backed the whole thing onto an oversized fleece. I also attached each of the squares to the backing by sewing on small covered buttons where four squares joined. It looks amazing and is warm and snug. Brilliant Tutorial, thankyou.
I want to live on that quilt lol. I'm making a baby sized one (or trying to...) but seeing this makes me want to make a grown up one for myself too😊 Thanks for the clear instructions, this was very helpful!
What a perfect tutorial!!!! Quick, to the point and makes you think that it's the easiest thing to make. I love the presenter and her style. Absolutely fantastic!!!! Thank you!
I made one of these in pastel colours for my daughter last year. To keep the puffs together with the fleece backing I sewed tiny polka dot buttons into corner where four squares joined. I am now making one for my son. Brilliant tutorial and a fabulous heirloom quilt. Thankyou. x
This Video kept popping up on my suggested list, and I never watched because it looked overwhelming. sooooo glad I decided to watch this morning. I now love you. This has to hear the easiest way I've see to make this quilt, and by far the prettiest.
I think this was lovely! I want to get back into sewing but I have no experience machine sewing. I want to learn! This is actually one of the biggest things I want to do! I can't find comforters that I like so I want to make one that I love! Thank you Astar!
Gorgeous saw this by you years ago recently wanted to make one in linen couldn’t remember the name but was searching fruitlessly for days then finally you popped up :)
Thank you! Thank you ! Thank you! Years ago my brother gave me my Mom and sisters and niece puff quilts a friend made for him. I have searched for quilts like them. They are the warmest blankets ever. Thanks to you I can make one.
Wonderful! Just wonderful! Looks so warm and cozy. It's winter here right now and I would love to cuddle under that! Thanks for sharing. Love your video.
I just loved the way you made it all look so clear and simple to do. I'm a newly quilter, but will definitely try this beautiful quilt. Thank you for a great tutorial
What a great tutorial! I think I'm going to make a patchwork one in baby colors. I'll also use my rotary cutter to save time cutting. Thanks for the great idea. Sharon in Michigan, USA.
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us. After watching your video I am now excited to move on from the quilt top I have been finishing to making a eiderdown just like my Nana used to have.I just want to say that you are immaculately presented and look gorgeous. I love your sense of style.I will be watching more of your videos. Also I heard about you from a commenter on an American Quilting video. She said how good you were and commented on your ' darling accent ' LOL As I too am a Kiwi I found that really amusing.
You are such a Great Teacher, you are absolutely So Good at all your projects, I am very happy to have found you. My grandma taught me how to sew and my mom always helped me finish my projects. You have replaced them both - just don't let them know I told you!!!
I've made one of these for my daughter and now am making one for my son. Hopefully they will become family heirlooms. Thankyou for your brilliant videos.
This is a wonderful video. I have a daybed that I am going to use as a couch and this would be a wonderful quilt to make. I have black and white fabric I purchased several yrs ago, 11 yrds to be exact. I will make it out of that. Cant wait.
Talking about how that one little place didn't match up on the beautiful blanket absolutely cracked me up. BEEN THERE!!! No one else will ever notice, but to the seamstress.... OMGosh! LOL That is such a lovely puff blanket. I didn't know that was how they were made. Thank You!!!
Hello Rachel, to be really honest, even now that 'little piece' that didn't match up, it still annoys me. However as I keep telling myself there are far more important things to worry about! Astar
DeBrina Diane Sanchez - there is a bit of work involved but how great does it feel looking at what you achieved. Well done you. I'm thrilled to hear you are pleased with your mighty effort. Hope it wasn't a marathon! X Astar
Beautiful, I was looking. How to make baby ones, but your video was the most instructional. You inspired me to dream up one for my bed as well! Thanks so much
Sorry I forgot to say it reminds me of my bedcover as a child. Treasured and loved, then passed down through the family it was already about 50years old when I had it. I'm nearly 60 and it's still going strong a testament to the hours of minute hand sewing. It was an eiderdown I think that is because it was filled with feathers lol your favourite.
Thank you! I've never done quilting before and this has inspired me to make a start! I need to make a liner for a large Moses basket and this has given me some guidance to help do that (with less padding) ;-)
I’ve been wanting a certain color for my bed room…. Curtains, rug, covers and sheets and this will help as I can’t find anything that makes exact shade Thank you
I have never seen quite like these tutorials, so nice just watching and learning.. This will be a favorite place to go when I need help. I just want to sit here for the rest of the afternoon, alas I must go and get dinner going but I will be back tomorrow. Thank you for a great afternoon.
I love this, can not wait to try to make one. Thank you for sharing your talents, and awesome tutorial, easy to follow and understand. Look forward to watching more of your tutorials.
I've just found your video. Absolutely fabulous instructions, and oh you do make me laugh... You have inspired me to make one of your gorgeous quilts. Love your fabric choice. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Brilliant. Best wishes Diane
Oh wow! I just love the whole video! The quilt is an absolute bonus. 🤣😂 Astar, the enthusiasm and the wonderfully chatty way you instruct is brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing. I think your channel is going to be a favourite of mine. Absolute gem and I can not wait to have a go at this!
I love this project. Astar, you were right about trying to sew this in rows. When I made this project I felt like a wrestler trying to get rows of puffs to slide smoothly as I sewed! Lol. It turned out well but I definitely had to put in work.
I know you showed us your one little mistake and yes we all make them and whomever we give our gifted to they won't ever notice them unless they sew/quilt themselves! You are the reason I made a crib size boys puff quilt for my Best friends daughter and she loves it! But as you said they are a lot of work and I'm not sure I will ever do another but to see the persons face you made it for, makes it all worth the while!! Thank you for a Great tutorial on this quilt blanket!! You are Awesome!!!
wow awesome work! I am teaching self to expand my quilting I mainly make native star blankets and I would like to start making clothing with quilting patterns :) All my children are adults and I have too much freedom lol hugs
Really enjoyed this tutorial. I had made this in smaller size squares, but yours is awesome I'm that larger size. I need one for my twin size bed. And it should go fast. Thanks a lot for this tutorial.
Hi Guadalupe, thank you for your kind comments. The first one I ever made was small hexagonals and my mum made me hand stitch each and every one. Honestly, I thought the project would never end. When I got married I wanted matching for my spare bedroom. Thoughts of hours of hand stitching ignited this idea. If desired, I say make them even bigger and really speed up the project. As an aside, they are so warm. Best regards Astar
I just came across you on You Tube and I think you're adorable! You really make things sound so easy. I'll have to try this quilt (I call them puffy quilts); always wanted to but afraid it would be too hard.
your video inspired me to make both of my sons bubble quilts. one was queen size and the other a twin. both turned out beautiful. i added minky material to the back and tack stitched the two layers. the only issue i had was the top as i had no way to sew the top closed as i had overstuffed the squares lol.
omg I LOVE YOUR TUTORIAL. LOVE THE ACCENT AND THE STYLE, CLASS AND CHARISMA. SO LOOKING FORWARD TO MAKING THIS PUFFY BLANKET AND WATCHING MORE OF YOUR VIDEOS. THANK YOU. TROY-BRONX-NY
I made this quilt and it is very very warm. It’s ideal in these winter months of UKs cost of living crisis.

You do it SO different and so better! Starting this project this week, so that 'hopefully' it will make a good present for my newly married niece.
This Video kept popping up on my suggested list, and I never watched because it looked overwhelming. sooooo glad I decided to watch this morning. I now love you. This has to hear the easiest way I've see to make this quilt, and by far the prettiest.
I am going to make myself one of these in girly pink forals! Thank you for this wonderful video!
It annoys me but it won't annoy you because it won't be on your bed! Lol! Best line ever! Gotta love Astar!
I love the way she just shoved everything off the table when she was done showing how to use the materials. :)
I made this. Very similar motif, color was ice blue.
Beautiful. Thank you for a top-notch tutorial.
