Maybe it's as simple as teams 9-12 in CFP are often not good enough to compete for a title, and it's even harder for them now having to win on the road
Clemson had chances to win their game. Texas defense gave up 400+ yards, 300+ passing. Clemson couldn’t stop the run. But Texas wasn’t dominant by any stretch. Also some luck.
Tennessee honestly was very lucky to even be there. I mean they went 3 games in a row where they didn’t even score a point in the first half and only 7 the 4th game. Got what they deserved
The cfb media landscape this year has been draining. It doesn’t seem like ppl actually care about the games but care more about their opinions. If that’s the case then let’s just crown the champion of the ap poll
I'm really tired of the trashing of Indiana. They played the schedule that was dealt to them. They only lost 2 games to CFP teams, both on the road, that are still in the playoff. They lost by less to Ohio State than Tennessee (suck it SEC) and they beat Michigan. So much for how great the SEC teams are this year, huh.
The Refs are what kept Tennessee SLIGHTLY in it before halftime, and Ohio State putting 2nd and 3rd team players in the 4th quarter is the only reason this game wasn't the biggest joke of a game in the 1st round of the CFP. Oh, and SEC HOMERS...STFU. Go Buckeyes and Merry Christmas!
What’s frustrating is as the last few years all these sec schools wanted the super conferences and now when it doesn’t work for them they want to bitch about how it’s a problem. We know you all did it for money, don’t complain now
Because SEC fans are delusional. They were screaming up to the clouds after Indiana, SMU and Clemson lost but then when Tennessee gets smoked in the same fashion, they'll change the narrative and say something like "it's not fair they had to go play up north in the cold". If a bad Tennessee is the 3rd best SEC team this year, then the 3-loss teams crying they should be in are even worse. Again, it's all very simple - win your regular season games and you'll be in. You have zero room to cry (for a team like Ole Miss) when you lose some of the games you did. Are Ole Miss and Alabama better than Indiana and SMU - MAYBE! But can flat out say they are better like some of these SEC homers are saying - NO! Ole Miss, Alabama and South Carolina didn't deserve to get in - do you know why? BECAUSE THEY LOST THREE (3) GAMES. Don't lose three (3) games - it's really that simple.
Tennessee gives up 42 points, SMU 38, Clemson 38, Indiana 27, Let's be real, Indiana "getting blown out" needs to be compared to the other scrubs that got "blown out"
Why didn’t Ohio State just air it out like that against Michigan? Lmao. Don’t understand why they were trying that run inside stuff when they have absolute dudes who can get outside.
I know the world is piling on Cignetti for not backing up all the talk… but I have a point to make that I believe many are overlooking: In an interview with Cignetti early in the season this year, he was asked about his outward confidence and overly arrogant remarks. He said that the second he stepped on campus he sense an overwhelming feeling of doom and gloom throughout the building. This program has the most losses of any program in college football. This program does not know how to feel confident in themselves whatsoever. He said he needed to flip the culture, and make everyone in that building (and the fans on campus who couldn’t have been less-interested in football prior to his arrival btw) *believe* they could compete. Which is why he was calculated in his arrogant comments at his introduction, arrogant in his comments to the media. His confidence from the top spread through the building, the campus, and the fanbase. This teams’ win total was 4.5. They were projected to finish 17th out of 18 big ten teams. Sure their line got out-manned by 2 of the best teams in the country with far more blue chip talent. But boy did they FAR exceed expectations and beat the shit out of teams that nobody thought they would have if we had asked back in August. So yeah you can call him a “fraud” for brining Indiana its best season in school history and deliver a season that crushed every preseason projection imaginable. I know the shit talk put a big target on his back- but I don’t think people realize the calculated nature of the shit talk to attempt to flip the culture and mindset of a battered and bruised football program. The man brought INDIANA football- who was priced to crack out 4.5 wins this year - to the college football playoff. The man developed these kids at JMU and took them from a literal D2 program to the CFP. Imagine when Cignetti got hired last December you found out that the world would be arguing if he was a fraud or not for losing in the first round of the CFP - seems like a solid hire to me 🤷🏻♂️
12 team playoff haters born winning and stay winning. This day was absolutely miserable and you defend this shambolic TV executive product of a postseason. The next round will be two maybe even 3 more blowouts. Deep down you knew this was coming and you know you're wrong but can't admit it. 12 never made sense, 4 was fine but 2 was also almost always a fine way to determine a champion. This isn't about finding the right way to determine a deserving champion, it's about making more money. There just aren't enough truly great teams, mostly 2 or 3 per year.
100%. This isnt the NFL, national championship is about finding the best team in the country through the whole season. To me the moment i was totally out on this playoff format is when Bama lost to Vandy and people were still talking about them like they have a chance. If you lose to Vandy or Northern Illinois in college football your season should end right there, even if its wk 2. This is why this game is so much more exciting than the NFL where the regular season barely matters. For my money they could have crowned Oregon two weeks ago when they beat PSU
Also. A certain conference. All season long has said that all the other conferences are trash and they are the best. Tennessee. By conference stats. Is either the best or second best defense in SEC play. Ohio States O line is a patchwork. They ran all over Tennessee. They pushed that great D line around. Tennessee could not get any pressure on Howard.
Indiana played Ohio State closer than Tennessee. And Tennessee fans traveled. So if not Indiana who deserved it? Nobody. It's just the way it was. And none of these games would of turned out any different no matter who you replaced Indiana with.
Right. Sometimes teams just get blown out in the college postseason - it's just the way it's always been. If a 3-loss team whines and complains saying they are "better than Indiana and SMU", all they had to do was not lose 3-games. Period. Based on the regular season, Indiana and SMU did what they had to do to get in - just because they didn't look good in the playoffs doesn't mean "they shouldn't have been in" and a 3-loss SEC team should have replaced them. Just don't lose 3 games in the regular season...
Blutman your so great! But you gata talk faster or be more punctual or something. You start throwing together so many ideas at different cadence and I can't possibly be the only one that tunes out.
Texas Clemson was a blow out????? 24-31 in 4th quarter. Unlucky pick 6 call back. They threw for 300+ yards on a defense everyone keeps saying is tops elite. That game was competitive. Ewers is shaky. The defense can be scored on by higher talented teams.
There are always blowouts in the college football playoffs - it's just the way it's always been. It doesn't mean "better teams got left out" - it's just the way it happens to go. There's not much that can be done about that.
Texas has lost twice to georgia, if you believe they are a power that can just walk through the playoffs that’s ridiculous. And honestly imagine a scenario where georgia somehow makes the finals and texas beats them. Winning the championship with a 1-2 record against the team you play would certainly make the conference championships mean less and show the 12 team doesnt work. Quinn ewers also has had the reputation of not showing up in big games. Theres a lot of reasons to doubt texas.
12 team playoff haters won forever on the first weekend and over the years everyone will jump ship. Glad you guys had easy content and could debate South Carolina and bama over the last month. Two teams that would have gotten smoked today. 2007 season was 10 times better than this season and that was BCS. 2000-2013 takes fat dumps on cfp era. FCS playoffs with 24 teams is a prime example. Every game is a blowout until the semi finals. Worst take you guys have ever made, but I get it, media driven
CFP is wacky. Boring as all get out. No way SMU, Indiana, should have been in the playoffs. Boise is going to get blown out. It’s a mess. The entire structure is a Frankenstein monster. Tennessee was a fraud, Clemson got beat by the Gamecocks. 1st round losers going home who could be playing in a bowl plenty of time. Meanwhile a team like the Gamecocks playing New Years Eve. Gamecocks would have been favored over Clemson, SMU, and Indiana and probably pick against Tennessee.
Liam offers knowledge but the more I see/hear him, the more he annoys me. Is his knowledge on college football above others at Barstool? Yes. But his "presentation style" and the way he talks begins to grind your gears after a while. He's a young kid who thinks he's smarter/better than other people - while also sounded like a "slow" person. It's a tough mix to sit through every week.
If you get rid of auto bids like Big Ev suggests then you are going to destroy the big 12 and acc and that is going to create even worse schedule disparity which is the problem with Indiana and Texas lol

but hey cmon, the SEC is soooo much better than the big10! 😂😂😂 Ive heard that for so long. Glad we took it to em.
Looks like we’ve come full circle with computer rankings being needed like the bcs. There needs to be a cross between committee and computer rankings.
Beat Bluntman here. Love Kayce. Merry Christmas Roughnecks! 🏈🎄🎅🏻

This weekend what a waste.
This podcast is way better with y'all in studio together.
Blutman's an OG, was shitty about his OSU slander last episode but glad he came back around.
Kayce, I love you and I know it’s tough but try and stick with me here. 38-24=14 not 10.
Was it an efficient night for Unnecessary Roughness?
Doesn’t matter what Kayce says football wise, she’s always looking 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Cignetti had the stars aline. Had the easiest schedule, faked Indiana out, and got them to pay him over $70M 😂
Lmao. Based on how Tennessee performed, why do yall think that Alabama, Ole Miss, SC would have faired better?

Day got sucked into the narrative that we weren't tough, and tried to prove we were.
OSU decided to phone it in against its greatest rival the week after getting up to play that "great" Indiana team.
