I can't say I've ever used a baton on a liner lock before, so I don't know if this one was a lemon or not. The RAT 1 and 2 are regulars in my edc rotation, and as work knives they do quite well for me. I would vote redemption on this one, just out of curiosity. Great video, guys!
I haven't had any issues with my RAT 1 but then again I dont do the type of batoning that made the lock fail. It is my general work/camp knife. And plenty of people have been with the channel for a long time im sure, first video i ever watched was probably the Microstream Vs I3t, its always a good time watching y'all's videos!
I have more than one Rat 1. What I have noticed is that the geometry of the lock face is not consistent. The steeper rhe angle, the easier it is to slip off. Some of them come very strong. I wonder if this one didn't just have early lock up with steep geometry where the liner meets the blade tang.
I was highly disappointed with the Rat 1 right out of the box. The blade had a horse shoe bend to it. The back and the tip were both rubbing against the frame while the middle of the blade was rubbing against the other side when closed. When open, you can easily see the bend in the blade. I probably would have loved it, but that experience left a sour taste.
You guys should check out the Esee Avispa for comparison. Similar in many ways but the Avispa will probably hold up better in the lock bar strength cat, its a frame lock and a bit thinner. Seems like it would have much less chance if failure. I think u guys would get a kick out of it.
If you look at other tests of this knife on youtube you can see its liner lock failing quite a lot. I wouldn't waste your time and money giving it another chance.
A knife that survives unreasonable abuse is great. A knife that breaks under unreasonable abuse is normal, and can still be a good knife. Knives aren't meant to be pounded into sheet metal like a nail. I love mine and have confidence in it's toughness when used within intended circumstances.
I only went with the AUS8 because thats what we had on the RAT 2 back in the day and we wanted to compare. Since the RAT 2, I think we both have come to have an appreciation for the D2
Tensilary strength of the lock bar vs the angle of the lock ramp on the blade don't seem perfectly married together for particular hard tasks. Watched a lot of reviews on this one and it's usually the same issue when you start really beating it up.
Thanks for saying this. We tend to not watch other reviews ahead of time, so as not to sway our opinion. We can still love a knife even if it cant take that extra abuse. This might just be one of those knives
I have had several of these knives because of my own testing and how affordable they are. I can tell you that it's luck of the draw some are tanks others are not. I personally carry a rat1 most of the time and have been doing so for over ten years so I know exactly what these can and cannot do. If you want check out vinill if that is right and you can see even with a broken linerlock how much it takes to completely make it fail I'm of the frame of mind that if you can still use it after damage that is what you want in a knife wshtf it's your guys call but I'd give it both stamps all the way. PS watch your fingers using that Benchmade it's super easy to disengage the crossbar lock in use I know. Good luck guys.
The problem with coated blades like on the rats is that it is paint and it comes off and looks bad. If you want proper blade coatings that stay looking good and won't wear then you want DLC (Diamond like carbon). The RAT is fantastic, and they are tough as hell. Why yours failed I just don't know. Once thing about OKC is they will warranty your knife 100% (now since they sold the company to Blue Ridge, I can't say if they will or wont).
It’s ok knife with (unfortunately) weak linerlock. I had black R2D2 and this coating is shit indeed. It’s get scratches even if you only put it in your pocket lol
Love all the Rat's, and have many. The Rat 5 being a personal favorite. But hopefully the quality doesn't go to .... since they just sold the company and layed off all their workers..
As far as the spyderco things... as far as the spyderco thing the tenacious is a sanrenmu made China made knife that spyderco designed and it's nothing more then a China budget knife. The delica is a super slicer, it's made for nothing else, it's designed as a mega slicer and it's most definitely not made for prying... if yall are gonna hammer on spyderco so badly then at least give spyderco a chance with a knife that is made to be hard used and not something that is basically a 5th pocket super slicer.... order a Manix XL or a Shaman or any other model that's made for hard tough use.

Thank you for throwing this in the ring. This is exactly what we were thinking and its nice to have a real world example

REDEMPTION
The RAT 1 is my edc.. it good, reliable, & cheap to replace.
used to be cheap

the RAT1 comes in D2 as well and can hold the edge much longer.
I only went with the AUS8 because thats what we had on the RAT 2 back in the day and we wanted to compare. Since the RAT 2, I think we both have come to have an appreciation for the D2
@@NewAgeTactical the Rat1 also comes in 2 different S35vn variants.

no idea why youtube thinks i am interested in something that has no substance whatsoever.
but here we are. thanks but no thanks........
Give us more drama! 😂😂😂

Thanks for the input on this knife! your reasons are exactly why I think this knife will continue to be controversial. A redemption is needed.
I do think a edc stamp is well deserved it did more then most knives do in a yr

You can get this in d2

I love your channel. Please make a review on esee avispa aus 8. Greetings from Russia.
Added to the list!
damn these use to go for less than $30
It’s a spindle not a deck railing insert
4 years into this and you are the first person to ever say something. Thank you
Rat 1 are solid knives, but their linerlocks aren't strongest....

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I had no idea until you said something. This could really change things up for OKC
