      Yes! It is so incredible (and pleasing) to see their first reactions. When I came along, he was an institution, universally admired, and absolutely everywhere. I was 12 when he passed. I knew that at least two generations would never forget him, but it is very pleasing to see that even now (40 some years latter), he is still knocking 'em out. Long live the King!

    • @westsidesmitty1
      @westsidesmitty1 3 года назад +6

      @@charolettebarnett3420 I feel sorry for them as they most likely don't know the ''back story'' to these songs and performances. ''In The Ghetto'' , for example, is much more poignant if one knows Elvis was born in very poor circumstances- it's not just some song sung by a rich superstar. They may not know how nervous Elvis was for the '68 shows, how much was ''on the line'', how long he had been gone, and how much had changed in the music, since his first triumphs. The way he came out and just instantly reestablished that he was still ''the king of the jungle'' was an incredible thrill to his original fans. People coming to the music today might not know the details of the legend that was common knowledge back when Rock was the dominant form of popular music.

I learned to kiss on a huge poster she brought me that I had on the back of my door..lol. she went to a concert where a little girl went up and got a scarf. On her way back to her chair this woman took it from her. Elvis stopped the concert, had security bring her on the stage. He sat down and put her in his lap and sang love me tender to her and gave her that big ring he always wore on his right pointer finger . When he was done he had his security take her back to her seat. He was a good man with a wonderful heart and a just a small town boy from the poor side of tupelo. After this young girls weren't allowed to go to the stage. I know because 6 months before he died I got to see him and I was very close to the stage. Every time I would try the would stop me and escort me back to my seat! Kmsl. I used to fantasize that I would write him and he fly into our small in town airport. I was gonna cook him a good home cooked country meal and just let him be a regular person for one day. I lived him then and I love him now and saltwater will. No o no e will ever be like Elvis.

I’ve been a fan for almost sixty years, & my wife too. In 1968, in this Comeback Special, as it’s known, Elvis was making a return to Live Concerts, after making movies for 8 straight years, plus two years in the army from 1958 - 1960. He did have a very unique voice & it’s instantly recognisable. Great Reaction.

      In 1968 Martin Luther King Jr was delivering his I have a dream speech due to all the inequalities our world faced and same year Elvis Presley choose to deliver his songs If I can dream and in the ghetto two songs he performed with so much passion you can feel and hear it coming from the depth of his soul, heart and mind be cause he had the same dream of equality for all people ,it's true he made a lot of beautiful music that will live on throughout time and everyone has their favorite ,the you tube hostess spoke about his side burns but some people took him through hell teenage peers and adults alike didn't like his look but he didn't change who he was and who he aspired to become his life story from beginning to end is on RUclips when he was asked in the beginning of his career who he sounded like he stated no one and that was the truth , He was a white man being hounded by his own race because they said he sounded to black , dressed to flashy and his gyrating and pelvis thrusting was selling sex and corrupting their youth he had hatred coming from middle age and aging white people, journalist, politicians ,law enforcers , DJ's television and radio stations banding his music, sound , dance and look due to the fact that he was inspired by blacks music, gospel, blues , R&B sound their expression of dance, but it was nothing they could do about it because the youth loved it and their voice and actions was louder and he didn't change, he was remaking a lot of black people songs that was once taboo music , while opening up the gates so that black people could finally show their talent that had been hidden and hushed up for to long . It's true he made more money but with the hard work determination and perseverance blacks started rising on the charts on their own merrits ,he stood in solidarity with Muhammad Ali and his struggles, James Brown, little Richard, B.B. King , Chuck Berry and so so many more greats of that era , We was introduced to the Motown and Philadelphia sounds and many others around the U.S. he basically took a country that was a drab black and white picture back then and replaced it with Technicolor he even defended himself against racist journalist that stated he said the only thing a black person can do for him is shine his shoes and buy his records if anyone know anything about racial hatred then you know a racist white man or woman don't want to be associated with any one who does not look like them, they'd never show any public or private desires to copy or compliment anything that person of color is about period . Their are many documentaries on RUclips he left a legacy that is still carried on by his daughter , Ex wife and grandchildren to this day.

    Hi Sushi. I remember watching this concert on TV with my parents in high school. It was a awesome experience as no one at that time had ever embodied the swag, vocal chops, dance moves, killer good looks, and unique unapologetic style as Elvis. He was influenced by the blues, gospel, and country, and as of 2017 has sold more records than other single performer. His story is unique. At the age of twenty he was driving a milk truck for a living and decided to stop in a recording studio called Sun Records to record a song that he could give to his mom for her birthday. The recording engineer was impressed enough to ask him to come back and play with some studio musicians. Elvis returned the next week and they recorded a couple songs that the engineer was able to play on the local radio station. Immediately the station was inundated with calls inquiring about the singer and the rest is history. The two Elvis songs you've reacted to he did in his mid thirties and by this time he had universal age appeal as an artist. But when he started out as a performer he definitely appealed to mostly young teenagers. This appeal was unprecedented at the time as this market had never been penetrated before and created the music industry as we know it today. It was also Elvis who set the mold for what it meant to be a "rocker" as his style, dance moves, musicality, and southern charm combined into an irresistible package that teenage girls went berserk over. So, Elvis started out a teenage heartthrob, was drafted into the army, then made movies in Hollywood exclusively for about ten years, and finally had about a ten year career singing in Las Vegas and doing live shows. You should watch early Elvis. Or, listen to the Sun Sessions. He performed many times on a Variety Show called the Ed Sullivan show with some epic performances. Enjoy your entertaining reactions.

    i just watched your video. I really enjoy seeing new generations becoming Elvis fans! My mother is almost 75 and she watched him on the Ed Sullivan show in 1956 and he was considered shocking for the time they would only film him from the waste up because of the way he swiveled his hips. Crazy right? My mother had a huge crush on him. He would be 86 this month if he were alive. He died in 1977 when I was only 6, so, I don't have any memory of him when I was that age but later on my mother introduced and made me a Elvis fan and she remembered this was his 1968 Comeback Special he hadn't performed live in years because he had been contractually bound to doing many movies and it was really innovative for 1968. Elvis is gorgeous and he unfortunately passed away at 42 his body gave out to the prescription drug abuse he had done. So sad really. He was a complex man a awesome performer and awesome to all his fans and he gave and gave and gave cars jewelry houses whatever he felt like when he was moved to anyone many strangers received gifts from him men women all ages. Was very respectful of his elders and of all people. He could charm the pants off of just about anybody. His personal group of guys who worked for him saw his other side he had a temper and could be difficult in private but the poor man had so much stress on him and he felt so obligated to take care of relatives and people who worked for him. He never wanted any gifts in return just loyal friendship. You should read his ex wife's book Elvis and Me Priscilla Presley and if you are in the West Tennessee area you should visit his home Graceland and museum by it opened for tours and has many of his costumes from performances and movies his cars. The two airplanes he had. I think you would really enjoy it. I really did and it's really knowledgable telling you his story from him being born in a shotgun shack in Tupelo Mississippi his parents were sharecroppers and they were dirt dirt poor no indoor plumbing or lighting. He grew up without anything and never forgot it and he was close to his parents and adored his mother he treated her like a queen bought her a pink Cadillac in the late 50's she died in her 40's from health issues he threw himself on her coffin clutching the house coat he bought her. He was a twin and his twin was stillborn and his parents didn't have anymore children. You can't help but love him everyone did there's always a few people with attitude problems find some reason not to he was a good man.

      The report on the complete facts of the SONG "IF I CAN DREAM" Elvis Presley The King Elvis Presley Home Elvis Home › Graceland › Elvis News › Elvis Biography › Elvis Interviews › Sitemap › The assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Memphis, as well as that of U.S. Senator Robert Kennedy, affected Elvis Presley deeply. These feelings led Elvis to give one of the most passionate performances of his career. America was in the midst of an upheaval in 1968. The Civil Rights movement was in full swing and our world and culture were changing. Within a short span of time, two leaders were assassinated. Dr. King was assassinated April 4, 1968, in Memphis - Elvis's hometown. Robert Kennedy, Assassinated in Los Angeles, June 6,1968, a US Senator who strongly supported human rights and social justice, was killed two months later, on June 6. It was Elvis's reaction to the news of both King and Kennedy's assassination that lead to the creation of the song 'If I Can Dream', a tribute song to King, featuring direct quotes from the Civil Rights leader. In the spring of '68, Elvis was working on his upcoming TV special, 'Elvis'. After seeing the news about Kennedy's death on TV, Elvis spent an entire night with the show's director, Steve Binder, and his friends, talking about the assassinations and Elvis's wishes for the world. The conversation was heartfelt and honest, and Binder believed Elvis had an important message for the country. Binder then went to the show's Musical Director Billy Goldenberg and songwriter Earl Brown and told them about the discussion. He wanted a powerful, meaningful song that would close out the TV special. Because the special was slated to air in December, the producers and Elvis's manager, Col. Tom Parker, had planned to end the show with a Christmas song, but Binder had other ideas. It wasn't long before 'If I Can Dream was born. Once the song was finished, Binder took the song to Elvis and played it for him. 'Let me hear it again', said Elvis, and the song was played again and again. 'Okay', Elvis said, 'I'll do it'. On June 23, 1968, Elvis recorded 'If I Can Dream in several impassioned takes, even though it is said that the first take Elvis gave was perfect. The king gave such a powerful performance that some band members were taken aback, so blown away by Elvis's performance that they had to do several retakes. It was after the band and backup singers were sent home that Elvis gave an even more astonishing performance as he re-recorded the vocals. Elvis had the lights turned off and gave himself over to the music. Over the next few takes, he fell to his knees on the concrete floor, giving himself completely to the song. After those takes, Elvis went to the control room and had his chosen take played repeatedly before he gave it his blessing. Elvis was so moved by the song and his experience with it that he told Binder, I'll never sing another song I don't believe in. I'm never going to make another movie I don't believe in'. 'If I Can Dream was featured at the end of Elvis's Singer Special (later known as the '68 Special) on December 3, 1968. This was the first time the public heard the song, and it was later released as a single with 'Edge of Reality (recorded for the film 'Live a Little, Love a Little') as its flip-side in November 1968. The single spent 13 weeks on the U.S. pop chart peaking at #12. In the U.K., it was on the chart for 10 weeks, peaking at #11. It is now a Gold Record single. Elvis Presley Lyrics Words & Music by W. Earl Brown Elvis Presley Lyrics There must be lights burning brighter somewhere Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue If I can dream of a better land Where all my brothers walk hand in hand Tell me why, oh why, oh why can't my dream come true There must be peace and understanding sometime Strong winds of promise that will blow away All the doubt and fear If I can dream of a warmer sun Where hope keeps shining on everyone Tell me why, oh why, oh why won't that sun appear We're lost in a cloud With too much rain We're trapped in a world That's troubled with pain But as long as a man Has the strength to dream He can redeem his soul and fly Deep in my heart there's a trembling question Still I am sure that the answer gonna come somehow Out there in the dark, there's a beckoning candle And while I can think, while I can talk While I can stand, while I can walk While I can dream, please let my dream Come true, right now Let it come true right now Oh yeah Recorded: 1968/06/23, first released on single

    I was eight years old when I saw Elvis' first performance on the Ed Sulllivan show. A year later I saved enough money from running errands for my mother to buy his first album, titled simply "Elvis Presley". This song was on it. When I just listened to after it was over I could hear another Elvis song in my head "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Cry Over You". I looked online for the track listing of that album, and sure enough, that was the song that immediately followed this one on the album. I had played that album over and over so many times, that almost sixty-five years later, hearing "Trying to Get to You" triggered my mind to anticipate the next song on the album!

    Glad you're enjoying Elvis and from the comments it seems you're introducing him to a whole new generation. Nice Job!
    This one might seem strange to you because he's singing a country song here, not a rock song. He sang damn near every type of music from gospel to country to rock-n-roll.
    For meaningful ballads, you might try "In The Ghetto" or "If I Can Dream" (He sang this with MLK in mind)
    If you want to see him dance too, there's always "Jailhouse Rock" or "Bossa Nova Baby".

    The version here was in 68 or so - Elvis's "coming home" concert after his hitch in the Army. He recorded the first version of this on March 23, 1955 - unreleased - and the second on July 11, 1955. I was 10 yrs back old then and rock-n-roll was just a new-born infant. What a great time to be alive. And it was an amazing time, Sushi - a time when entertainers didn't have to worry about unruly or dangerous fans. There was respect in those days - and if you were lucky enough to be sitting that close, you just basked in the glow of the talent and bragging rights next day at school. Side burns - Elvis set the trend and all us *cool* guys had em - mutton-chops we called them. PS: Sitting close - I went to a jazz concert in Seattle a couple years ago - Keiko Matsui - it was a dinner club and I was sitting literally right behind her on her piano. I could have reached up and pinched her ***.

    Although Elvis died years before I was born, he is my favorite! Truly an amazing performer and singer. And if you think his fans were close at this sit-down performance at the '68 Comeback Special - just and an fyi - he was known for kissing his fans during his concerts in the 70s. Like a lot of kissing. lol

    Lordy, he looks like he was chiseled out of stone, then God breathed soul and charisma into him. 😍😉😉💕💕💕This was being filmed for a tv special so it was very intimate. I have seen him lean down and give a fan a kiss when she handed him something. The sideburns are called mutton chops and were all the rage back in the day. They even got longer and thicker in later performances.
