For me, theory is something like this : He had a #Million dollar dreams, but there were a lot of problems, a lot of haters, so everything became #Black and white. My theory is that in this case both him and another person committed suicide and he’s feeling guilty about the decision of the other person because he didn’t tell them to stay behind and thinks that it was his mistake not doing so..therefore he’s questioning if the other person will breathe again because of his mistake and is looking for them.
Thank you Cory Boo for dropping such an amazing song. So here goes my theory (rather i would call my thoughts) on this song. So, this song is about Cory and his personal thoughts on depression. Probably there was a time when he was depressed for a long time and felt like everything he did was a mistake and blaming himself the way he was leading his life. He tried to hide it but it didn't work that way. He kept blaming himself for what he have done. He felt pressured to face the problems and decided to hide himself. This is the background of the story. Later Cory realized that he can't let Depression to win over him. It's just killing him inside and making his life unhappy. Because there are many people (his family,friends,fans) around him who loves him and believes in him. He decided not to hide anymore and face the problems in order to find happiness which he have lost because of his depression. He started to gain confidence and started a new journey. I think it inspired him to write this song. He is basically talking about himself in this song and describing the way he felt when he was going through depression. Even in the music video Cory and the lantern on his hand symbolizes Hope. He is trying find himself and his happiness in order to breathe again. He is finding is way out from the dark. Theory - I feel like there is always going to be multiple ways to interpret song lyrics. For me this seems to be a song about a broken relationship and feeling lost. The first lyric seems to be about how no one believed that this relationship was meant to last or was never going to work. I believe the chorus talks about the pain of a break up and how they can destroy you so by breathing again, its referring to moving on from the pain of the past and re building yourself. The 2nd verse seems to be about wanting that said person back and knowing that they can't fix it unless they erase everything that had tore them apart. (I'm probably wrong but this was my interpretation)

Sorry it’s so long and I’m probably just rambling at this point but here are my thoughts! So I think that this could be about your own personal journey especially following you breaking off into your own path musically. It’s like there is your outer self. This side is visible to reality and everyone else. Then you have your inner self that only you truly know and your sanity. This inner self is where all the creativity, expression, and sometime seemingly naive thoughts and dreams stem from. I like to think of our outer self as a shell because although we use it to communicate, it protects the real and vulnerable side of us. It protects our sanity. The lyrics keep asking the question “Will you breathe again?” And I believe it genuinely starts out as just a question but towards the end it morphs into a desperate plea. Perhaps this is referencing how fragile, fresh, and innocent our dreams and visions are for ourself but that it doesn’t always stay that way due to the world and how harsh and cynical it can be. All the pressures and negativity can slowly try to eat away like a poison and cloud your mind with doubt and lies like “you’re not good enough” or “no one will like your ideas or your contributions”. It starts to put a crack in your sanity that allows outside elements to try and creep in, like depression or guilt. It’s like this is your outer shell that was made hard and tough by the world and society interacting with your inner self that still has those remnants of the dreams you still have or once had. Your outer self is begging your inner self and sanity to breathe again, to provide some type of inspiration or reminder on why you are doing what you do in the first place. You’re hoping and praying for a balance to come for your outlook (I’m thinkin we’re both seeing black and white) so that this leap of faith you took was not in vain. There’s constant thoughts of failure threatening to overwhelm you, but you hold your inner self close and hope that, just like tanglewood, something new and good can sprout out of nothing and that there is still hope for what’s left of your sanity. You end with an apology to your inner self for the lost innocence and hardship you have put it through to be where you are now and beg it to breathe again instead of laying dormant. (Why didn’t I tell you to stay behind oh I made a mistake)The lantern you carry through the dark night and the thick fog is faint...Faint but still there. Perhaps the light is a physical representation of your sanity or the real you and you are trying to shield it from the fog and the darkness and praying that it won’t go out and will breathe again. You ending the video while covered in water in the seemingly cold weather could also be a physical portrayal of you trying to force clarity and the breath of life back into your own self.
