One of the comments below is this video does not do it justice. The comment is correct. Driving over this bridge is intimidating for most and down-right frightening for others. Because of this fear, MD has in place a guard station at both ends of the bridge for those who can't drive across so the person can stop at the station and someone there will drive their car across the bridge for them. If you do drive across, the key is doing what the driver in this video has done - drive in the middle lane or the far right lane. Do NOT drive in the far left lane if you think you will freak out because if you do drive in that lane, look out your driver window and you can see straight down to the water. There isn't a should on the left, just the yellow lane line and railing. I found out the hard way. Never gripped my steering so hard in my life. Scary as hell.
Susan B At its highest point you are 200 feet above VERY deep water with nothing but those concrete Jersey walls between you and the edge of the bridge.
+Susan B You have to drive it to believe it. Drove it for years from PA to Annapolis MD to sail. The video does not do it justice. I drove the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, and that was a cakewalk compared to this. I'm a driving/car enthusiast, but this bridge gave me my first panic attack.
Susan B, some people just have a phobia about driving across bridges like this one, they can't explain why, it just scares the hell out of them and they cannot get over it. Sucks, but it is what it is.
You must be thinking of a different bridge. BTW go back to PA. Us Md folks cant stand you non driving Pa idiots! LAPD Locals Against Pennsylvania Drivers!

It's not scary I live in Delaware so when I go somewhere I have to cross this bridge and the time when it's raining and snowing is fun but sometimes scary
I think I would be perfectly fine driving this bridge, but I would drive slow with extreme caution in the middle lane. What would scare me the most is driving next to someone experiencing anxiety.
danielle thompkins trucks have to ride in the right lane over the bridge
I've driven over this bridge in a truck and scariest part is or was that in 97 only had jersey barriers and from the truck it didn't look like there was anything between the roadway and going over the side.
And what you can't see in the video...or can't tell unless you're really looking...is that the "road" (esp at the top) is grated and completely see-through...you can see straight to the ocean from the top of the freaking bridge...there is no solid road under you......i almost fainted.
I won't even drive to ocean city anymore just because of this bridge #Nope
177 feet above the water.
Never liked traveling over this bridge.
Too damn narrow, to shaky...
It gave me the Willie's every time.
Theses days I find another way.
If some jackass in a hurry hits you from the side, you're going over.
that happened in 2018. big rig truck rear ended van truck went over bridge truck driver and riding buddy drowned. it was raining.
Driven it sooooo many times..... I can understand the fear of it..... Nice pics though!!!!
Is totaly crazy i will try only time, like a big wheel pas mal invitant que je pensais
I've always been a passenger with family, and friends riding ovet the CBB but have not driven over it myself
I keep calling this bridge the "Cheapskate Bay Bridge"
Why do you want to call that?
It looks cheap to me but that's just me...
Is that all you have to say?
No.
Then what?
i would rather sit in the trunk of the car than drive it when going over this bridge
I have driven over this bridge when we traveled to Virginia and on the East Coast.
I go on this bridge every month to get to North Carolina from Delaware it’s scary at night but pretty in the day time
I will only drive over that bridge at night because I cant see how highup I am and I can't see the height of the bridge going the opposite direction
Wow that’s brave but then you’re just like me as I love at Disneyland space mountain 🏔 the very thrill of eagerly riding a roller coaster IN THE DARK!

bridge need higher railings. Not high enough to prevent vehicles from going over
Wow
I went accross it before, when visiting ny family in VA. I wasn't afraid at. But I was also 12 at the time, so I didn't know any better. lol! I want to cross it again.
I'm surprised there's not a ferry boat station in that area
According to my parents, way back in the day there use to be a Ferry. I have no idea why they did away with it.
My take on this bridge: Original span = boxy and cozy; Expansion span = hate every second of it.
East to West, used to use Daily when we lived on Kent Island.
The East bound side is more interesting for those who don't like long high bridges, just two lanes and metal grates on the suspension sections.
This is the kind of bridge that needs a shoulder. I'd want to stop and take pictures.
this bridge gave me the "willies" i can't say why but i was glad when we got to the other side
We just crossed this last weekend, not gonna lie, it was loooong and I was scared as can be. LOL. It is beautiful though.
Scary looking bridge. Too close to the water for me. Looking at this makes me have great anxiety.
just watching this is making my stomach turn.
the see -through short railings and narrow lanes especially on the right most will give me a panic attacks.
I think it's a beauty... and I did it when it was one lane in and one lane out
One of the comments below is this video does not do it justice.
Ive gone over this bridge many times, I've gotten over my fear of it
Bridge sounds like an machine.
dont like bridges i just stay away thinking they will fall when i,m on them
Same here, Jason
Just looks like a bridge to me. What's scary?
Susan B There's no pedestrian side walk though
Susan B At its highest point you are 200 feet above VERY deep water with nothing but those concrete Jersey walls between you and the edge of the bridge.
+Susan B
You have to drive it to believe it.
UTIMATE DRIVING?
Very beautiful but very DANGEROUS bridge.
This makes it look easy........ from the middle lane.
If you got your radio on for some reason and a song like "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys is playing, TURN THE RADIO OFF!!!
It's a freaking bridge cars go ove it every day
Man I didn’t think it was ever gonna end jeez Louise
I drive over the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge a lot 228 ft to water
Yeah, as a staten islander that bridge aint scary
This is so scary, hell f..k No,Thank You very much!!!
I love the bay bridge
Just for the record the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel goes from Virginia Beach, Virginia to Cape Charles, Virginia not to Maryland.
Brenda Barkley Tidewarer Friends of Acoustic Music This video is of the bridge near Annapolis, not the Bridge Tunnel.
This is The Chesapeake Bay Bridge in MD. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is in VA.
I love bay bridge
Good Morning Baltimore- Tracy Turnblad of hairspray
