  • This hike is technically not in Oslo, but a 40 minute drive from Oslo, in the area Viken. It is included in "Best hikes in Oslo" due to the close proximity to the city. This hike includes a dramatic gorge, as well as great views. With this short video and a little bit of information you are ready to set of on the hike yourself :)
    1) You will have to drive to Sundvollen. Set your navigation for "Parking, Mørkgonga". There is room for about 10 cars on the parking.
    2) The trail starts on the other side of the road, and is heading uphill. There are signs all the time, and you will start by following signs for Mørkgonga.
    3) After a while you will cross a trail, and continue uphill. You will reach a junction where you have a sign for Mørkgonga to the left. Take this one. You will later come back to this junction from the other trail you see here.
    4) You will gain more elevation now, and it gets steeper. This is a rocky area where many hikers might not feel comfortable. After a while you will get to the gorge, Mørkgonga. You will hike through it. Make sure to check out the view when you get to the top.
    5) Continue into the forest. You will soon get to another juntion. Follow signs for Gyrihaugen to the left now. Very soon you will be by a lake.
    6) The trail follows the lake to the left, and you will follow signs for Gyrihaugen. There should be a sign to the left around the time you leave the lake, and then another one to the right that is not that visible, but you will see it if you pay attention.
    7) After a while you will get to another junction where a sign saying "Gyrihaugen 0,3" us taking you to the left. Follow this one to the view point, and then return to this junction for the trail taking you in the direction of Fjellseter.
    8) After a while you will get to another junction. You can take either trails here, but I think the one to the left is the best option. After a while you will get to another junction where you will follow the red marks and signs for "Skardet".
    9) The trial will take you by a lake, and at the end of the lake the trail continues ahead to the trail that will take you down to the parking again.
The hike from the parking and back again might take you about 3 hours, if not more.
