Google Earth STRANGE ANOMALY Next to Cemetery?

- I may have found what I'm calling a Strange Anomaly on Google Maps. This nearly perfect circle sits in the woods next to a cemetery and it appears to have a reflective surface. When ponds or lakes naturally form, they are rarely a perfect shape and often have some irregularities, but this one is almost perfectly round. The things I'm hoping to answer is if it's natural or man made, how deep is it and what's beneath the surface?

What are your thoughts on this? I think I'm left with more questions than answers.
Could be a baptismal pool.
Definitely go back in the summertime and see if it dried up and see what’s at the bottom
I'm going with your 2nd guess - a mine collapsed like the one you showed us next to those homes last year but this one filled up with water. Fence around it because any more collapsing or the water suddenly getting sucked down because of further mine collapse would be exceptionally dangerous for anyone wading or swimming in it at the wrong time.
Sinkhole caused by a collapsed aquafir?
Dear JP, I would be afraid for you to snorkel that pond due to it being fenced off like that, it makes me weary of it. Chemicals may have been dumped there. Best regards Craig
When I was a teen in the 80s, I used to talk to a 80-year-old man who lived in the neighborhood. He had lived in the area all his life & I was curious about a man-made pond in the local woods. He said it was built to cut ice off it, store it & sell it in the summer back when fridges didn't use electricity.
Umm mm... yummy cemetery flavoured ice.
I would guess manmade, maybe a storm water retention pond, could follow the creek bed to find out. The orange fencing around it make me think it’s a warning for kids not to swim, or ride ATV’s into it. If it is a flooded mine or sinkhole, it’s even more dangerous.
Honestly, it looks like a sinkhole
Nah sinkholes wouldn't have a burm of dirt around it
Crater from explosives or possibly a meteor?
Possibly an old flooded air shaft for a mine or subsidence, depends on the location.
That's my bet..
I have seen many manmade pools like this that were designed to redirect water from nearby structures in an attempt to reduce or prevent erosion. They build them near restaurants near where I live. It is possible that this could be the case considering on either side there is a subdivision and a cemetery. You may check the land survey and property ownership for a better determination. Hopefully it isn't an old cesspool...lol. Great video, thank you for sharing.
I would say it's a view to die for! LOL!
LOL
8:38 Probably if you stuck the camera in that hole in the tree that's where the loot was hidden or old Blinkey might come out to say Hi!!!😂
It appears the end opposite of where the stream comes in is a berm likely functioning as a dam built of material probably excavated from the hole. The berm means it's man made and not a sinkhole. It could be material pushed away from a mine, but no-one would have a mine location where there is a water stream. This leaves a pond for a homestead, farm or a mill. Looking from the view of the cemetery, it appears there would be likely much better mill sites, so one wouldn't be built for the area there. It likely was the water supply a farmer created for his homestead, animals and crops. That forest was a farm at one time.
JP, really enjoyed your video! As you were putting your action cam in the water I was wondering if I could throw mine with a rope tied to it to our lagoon what used to be apart of our dairy and see what's on the bottom. Beautiful view from the cemetery!
I love old cemeteries. That one was truly incredible. What a fantastic view. The pond has me puzzled. Kind of looks man made but that doesn’t explain the spring running into it. Would love it if someone has more information on it. Thanks for taking us on this journey with you.
My family has 2 ponds in the woods that are manmade and they both have springs running into them.
That's why they build the ponds..because a spring can fill it lol.
What you said at 8:56 crossed my mind the minute I saw the unhealthy color of the water beneath the surface. But without testing it, I wouldn't be sure. The orange fencing makes me think it's not a natural body of water. Someone determined this was not safe, and installed the fence. Sinkhole, maybe? Loved the old cemetery with the gorgeous view! Would love to see a tour of it. Awesome photo montage, too! Great find, Jay, Thanks for bringing us along!💙
By the looks of the subdivision close by, I’d say at one time it was a sewage water lagoon or water ever they are called. Hence the orange fencing. Now, I’d say they have public sewer system and only rainwater flows into it now.
It's too high up for that, isn't it?
Beautiful view towards the cemetery and such a cool video thank you for bringing us along with you on your journey to an unexplained sight❤❤
Great video keep up the great work man I can’t wait to get out and do some exploring ✌️👍
Great camera work and editing! My guess is it’s a man made retention pond to capture the water from that spring that’s feeding it, probably used to be farm land.
Great Google maps find JP! Strange hole of water, sure is intriguing, wondering if its natural or man made!🤔👍
What an awesome adventure and I agree this one is very unique and just so fascinating! After hearing your theories, I feel 50-50 on this too now. I was leaning more towards manmade because of the fencing that was placed around it, and it is almost perfectly round, but I am not sure now. Like you said, more questions than answers. At any rate, it sure is an interesting find and it's great you documented it! Beautiful view at the cemetery is exactly right! Wonderful video JP, thank you! 💙
I'm learning more towards a sinkhole or subsidence which is natural, but can be linked to man. The fence definitely adds an element of mystery to it.
It was an old time water reservoir. I have one in my home town next to a cemetery look online for vintage Topo graphs that have homesites showed it might label it or look at vintage aerials
Very nice waterfalls on the other side of the cemetery, or so I’m told. Never got a chance to go back in and check them out. Heavy mine activity there and I believe there is a mine opening right on the other side of the quiderail up the hill a little bit
I did a couple videos on the falls and there's one or two mine openings along the sides of it, but arent accessible.
My bet is the headstones are facing East. Most cemeteries have the headstones facing east as that's where the second coming will be coming from that direction. The view there is fantastic, no doubt about it!
Yep. Usually face east
That's exactly why
What happens if you're past the point of it being east for the 2nd coming? What if you're at one of the poles? Which way would the 2nd coming be from then?
2nd coming.. hogwash.. its another 1,400 yrs, before there planet comes round again.. religion is man made.. viper tv sumerian tablets.. enki, made man, as workers, in mines.. research.. not bible bs..
Probably a retention pond dug during the construction of the housing development. The color of the trees on the map and the size of the trees in the video looks like that area was clear cut. The first map shows some trails leading close to the pond. The color of the trees toward the top of the map look darker as if that area was not touched during construction.
In Nicholson PA there is a cemetery with a beautiful view of the Lackawanna Railroad’s Tunkhannock viaduct. Makes for some great photos.
Very interesting find JP, i think it could be a natural made lake. Could be a flooded mine shaft, but it sure interesting how it was formed.
Beautiful cemetary! The body of water looks man made, especially with the rock lined ditch where water runs into it. Curious!?! Thank you for sharing!💙
Wonder if it was from a part of a mine or sorts the orange fence is odd 🤔 .I really enjoyed this video !! 👍👍The pictures at the end are so cool !!
Take it from a long time fisherman that that is no sinkhole... You can tell by the lay of the land around it where the dirt was dug out and placed on the side... Also there are no sinkholes I have ever seen with a spring feeding into it where somebody put a whole bunch of rocks down to keep the water from eroding the ground away there... Retention pond is my guess but for what though, I have no clue. Cool video JP love the camera work underwater❤ and also I think a deer hunter put up that orange silt fence... So maybe if the deer come to drink they'd be closer to his stand.
And You can see the siphon pipe when he first set up GoPro probably also transports water to livestock or something.
Long time fisherman here also and i totally agree with what you think and said about this. Those rocks were definitely placed there purposely.
That is really nice. Rural Pennsylvania has places that are kept maintained by volunteers like this.
What came to mind when I saw the round pond is in one of your older videos when you showed where a water tower stood, but it didn't have that much water under it . I doubt it's that because why would there be a water tower in the woods...
You find the strangest things! Very interesting. Looks like a sinkhole, but not for sure. Thanks for the trek JP.
Probably a skinkhole - either mine or natural. If you want to see another cemetery with similar nice views of the valley in the area, go to Mount Olivet cemetery (just on the north side of Frances Slocum park) - that's where my family is all interred.
I was thinking perhaps it was a small sinkhole. Thank you for taking us along; enjoyed the adventure! …….🌝
Very interesting. I do tend to side with the group that says it may be a sinkhole. Hmmm… like you said , more questions than answers.
There is a neighborhood right next to this wooded area so it looks to me to either be drainage for the area (compensating for the change in landscape.)or it could also be where the builders got backfill from, which is quite common. The trees look to be mostly new growth so it was likely a cleared area at the time the neighborhood was built, and could have been part of a never built section where the hole would have been filled later or, more commonly, turned into a retaining pond. Since the cemetery is on the other side this might have discouraged buyers and that section was never built on.
Love the cemetery, thank you!
Love your channel. That is a beautiful cemetery, hope I can check it out someday. Possible the anomaly has some paranormal origin?
It could be a watering hole for Bigfoot or possibly a portal to an underground facility used by aliens from outer space.
Might be a mine shaft or air shaft that was filled but settled and started collecting water. I found this spot on Google maps and noticed the houses around the area. There has to be a reason why there aren't any houses right there.
Was there mining activity in the area we have old bell pits and circular holes now filled with water near me that are left over from coal mining
You may want to be careful. I think this is either a sinkhole or an abandoned cistern.
That's where the creepy girl rises out in the middle of the night and chases you 😮😊
Seriously, I'm thinking a sinkhole. Pennsylvania has many sinkholes. I found one many years ago with a dead cow inside.
I like the way you think! lol
Great video!
We did the same thing with our action cameras, putting them in an unknown water.
I've been thinking of getting some PVC piping and building a piece up to 20 ft long to try out in the water next.
Maybe you should try that too. 😀
I've seen people put them on a fishing pole and cast it out.
@@JPVideos81 it's one thing for me to throw my heavy magnet out for magnet fishing. But to fish out my GoPro in hope it comes back is a liiiiiiiittle risky. 😬
My first guess was that it was manmade ...then I argued with myself that it could be natural ...LOL...Another mystery . The cemetery and view was really beautiful . Thank you for sharing another fun adventure !👍💙
😁😊💙
check out the cemetery on snake road/ransom road up a few miles from mcdade park scranton it has a good view as well but mainly in winter and fall you will like it....
I've been there before
I saw something like this off Yankee Rd in Quakertown between the private airstrip and Richland Meadows
I have no clue what it is
Mine opening that filled up with water over time. You'll see these all over mine land that was grown over. Most of my family is buried in this cemetery. I believe you were at those falls next to it?
Yes, I've made videos on the falls.
Beautiful cemetery with a great view. Hard to say about the water, I’m guessing sinkhole. Regardless very interesting. Thanks for sharing….🥰❤️
6:11 it’s an anomalous Mountain Dew pond!
I was noticing, if water was flowing in, was there a place you could see water flowing out? If not flowing out at surface, must be going underground. Mine shaft or cave.
I was looking for an exit point as well so I assume it's seeping down.
This reminds me of a horror movie I saw as a kid. It was called Dementia 13. I'm sure glad your camera didn't bump into a headstone down there. That would be right out of that movie! lol
😯😁
6:29 that is a jump scare lol. Waiting for Swamp Thing to show up for his RUclips debut.
🤭
St Patrick's Cemetery, Dickson City. I've done geocaching in the edges of the cemetery. One about even with the hole. Another on the other side and all the way down the hill. The right side in the overhead view at the beginning is all tailings from mining. A lot of No Trespassing signs which ATVs completely ignore. I live in Mass. and have family in Dunmore.
Just FYI, I have a session camera that I super glued a fishing swivel on it. I have used it to cast the camera out a ways into the lake and a couple of creeks. I was amazed to get a video at one time of a pretty good sized rainbow trout!
I've heard of others doing something similar. I may give it a try sometime.
Yeah..flooded sink hole. Orange fence usually means unstable ground
So intrigued by this find! I am kind of leaning towards it may be a mine subsidence. It seems so many side walls of the 'hole' is bare earth like it just suddenly fell away instead of being a natural depression with more angle to the sidewalls and apparently so deep in the middle. And with water feeding it, should it eventually overflow somewhere? Is the water seeping down into the mine? I love the cemetery, what a beautiful view, just wondering if that view is in the east. They started burying people many years ago facing the east and one can only wonder if that was the case here and the view was an added advantage.
I thought the same. Most headstones face East to face the rising sun, and for the faithful, to see the second coming of Christ
Mine workings came to mine when I mentioned a shaft, but a subsidence or sinkhole seems more likely.
Great video, I didn't hear the location can someone tell me where this is, thank you.
When you first showed it, I thought it was Mars Bluff in SC where we accidentally dropped an A bomb
Absolutely a great resting place with an amazing view. That body of water seems man made to me. Seems like the area was great for wild game viewing or hunting because of the stands and if you provide a body of water for them to drink from, they will come 👍 Or like you said JP, could have been a water catchment for homesteaders and someone fenced it later to keep anything from falling in. Loved that cemetery and all it's artful pieces, that cemetery and it's occupants in itself would be a great story💯
Usually these are caused by a natural cave system where they have a sinkhole and it collapsed and they form these.
Also an old mine collapse can cause this
My guess is it was a testing site for possible mining. Also interesting the water appeared to not be draining out anywhere. So it must be draining underground.
That's my assumption as well about where the water is going.
I'm from the Western region of the US, and it looks like a very typical "tank" for watering cattle or other livestock. Perhaps it was made for use by earlier settlers in the area.
I would guessed mineshaft.
Ive lived in a area that had those "ponds". with encing around for people not to swim in. Because those small looking ponds goes deeep.
I took a magnifying glass to that and if you look close enough you can see two different phases in there one where it's dark when you change it back to the green get closer you see another face.
You can research there history of the land through public records to get an idea of what that is about.
Looks man-made. Where did dirt go from hole? I'd look for the oldest, nearest home and see if they knew anything? Also, the woods are not mature. What did it look like without trees? Good video👍
Where is this? I'd love to get more info on that cemetery...
Hi jp that was neat to see ❤
Sinkhole. Probably the local Public Works department put the orange fence up. Sinkhole form near perfect circular ponds. Check out Plant City, Florida. It's full of them.
Thanks I think it was awesome I enjoyed watching keep up the good work
Site of old mill town... they had ponds like that... I lived in one as a child. Sometimes the ponds are as you see here and sometimes with cement walls. It would be interesting to find out the history of the town by the cemetery. It is also quite common to give the dead the high ground, both for their eternal views and because it is better than being at the bottom of a hill where flash floods or too much run off can float the beloved to the surface. Note the running water captured in the pond from above too. Utilization of the natural flow to use for the mill (or whatever). Where is this?
Pennsylvania
The trees have quite small diameters, so this area has not been woodland long. I expect that was a natural 'dewpond'. It was probably used for watering animals.
It looks like an old clay pit. There used to be potteries in my area long ago, and the old clay pits look like this. They're extremely deep and fill up with water after all the clay has been removed.
What a beautiful view❤
There are other circles in the area that lack the central pond. Are there "indian mounds" in that area?
The way it's built it looks like it could have been a drainage pond maybe you should follow the creek
The trees around the pond are all about the same age. I think the trees are the age of when the property was last used. That said, I think it was a man made pond for someone’s enjoyment on an estate. The view would have been amazing. Check nearby for records on an old home.
I would say ground water next to cemetery is probably not good lol. It looks like it is lined with stone or something. Would be a much older thing than a retention pond for a development I think. I think they only started making those (only going by my own remembrance) maybe late 1970s. Idk but yes I was waiting for that jump scare of some creature come up to the camera!
It’s a pretty pond!
Well seeing how its near a Cemetery, i wonder if the Cemetery originally was planned to expand out further and that might have been planned to be some sort of fountain or something in it.
It look dug out enough i believe its man made though, the blocking it off back in the day furthers my thoughts on that
If you look at the sides it looks like it part sand. I would guess this is a sandpit where they took all the sand out and left it and it filled with water.
Pretty cool camera.
Hi JP! Interesting find. Not really sure what I think. I didn’t see anything man made in the water. The bottom seems all organic matter. No critters either. The fencing could have been so people don’t stumble into it. Very odd!
The fence certainly makes it odd
Congrats you found a retention pond lol
I’m thinking possibly a meteorite impact site. Something that happened a long, long time ago.
I liked this one. And I did like the ending.
Thanks!
Could it be a meteor crater? Maybe you could check for iron in the center.
Go back with a fishing pole. Attach a sinker to your line and cast it out to the center of the pond to see how much line goes out before it hits the bottom.
Another great video JP. Thank you. Hope it warms up there in PA soon!
Looks like it could be some kind of vernal pool. I could be wrong though.
We call it the frog pond, it’s smaller, almost perfectly round, very deep & natural. Toss the coin it’s 50/50 on your circle. Thought invoking & the cemetery was beautiful. Thanks
At 1:26, if you followed that trail down and to the right, you would have came to an old car. 1950's maybe...
Well you are in Pennsylvania Thay are bad about building homes on old mine sites so it's possible that's a mine shaft.
It is a retention pond. Its in my bosses back yard.
Interesting. My guess is that it was for water for the cemetery
It's looks like a natural water runoff. Being that it's so round I suspect it may have been a sink hole of sorts.
After watching this again, I'm thinking possible sinkhole or subsidence.
Was that water far in the he distance of that view.I love water.I,m a water butlg😊
Orange netting is very modern.. Likely trying to keep the fallen leaves, etc from going into the water. Barrier cloth. Not very aesthetic but government property management usually don't care about that.
Should carry a telescopic fishing rid, with a heavy weight on the end... would give you and idea how deep it is... Could even attach the gopro to the line.
As for what ot is... maybe a catchment pond, similar to what they have near golf courses...or a sinkhole as others have mentioned. Maybe check where the water is actually coming from.
Whatever it is, I don't think it is natural and that water does not look healthy at all.
My guess is someone tried to dig a well and it became a sinkhole. Most all sinkholes are round so I figure this is one that, over the years, has filled with groundwater and is kept filled with stormwater runoff.
With the caution fencing I’m going with caved in mine.
Looks like a sinkhole strange that there is a stream going in but not out.
