I am Japanese. And I live in Kamakura, the setting of this anime. Near my house is the ruins of a temple where the Hojo family committed suicide. Believe it or not, this actually happened in Japan. I would be happy if everyone became interested in Japanese history through this anime.
After watching the manga, I became interested in the story of the hojo family and learned about it. I think Cloverworks will bring everyone a more interesting historical story.
The only thing I'm not satisfied with is that they didn't explain the background of why this happened. It was a time when even Japanese people found it difficult to understand. Every country has a history. And if you don't see it from the beginning, you won't understand the story. I'm a history geek, so I get the gist.
@@puniki_dog That's right, I read the first chapter of the manga and a series of questions appeared in my mind so I put the manga aside and searched for information about Hojo's family. Information about the Hojo family in Vietnam is extremely limited. I have to search for documents in English or Japanese.
@@aoichan2269 Thank you for your wonderful remarks. If it's available online, I recommend reading Taiheiki first. If that is difficult, you may want to read Wikipedia from Emperor Go-Toba to Emperor Go-Komatsu.
11:25 This does not mean that Takauji ordered them to commit suicide; rather, they chose an honorable death, realizing their defeat and preferring it over falling into the hands of the enemy. This story is fictional, but based on real events, and the location actually exists as the historical site "Toshoji-ruins (ji=temple) ."
Btw dont look up the names of these characters, you'll get spoiled about the events that might happen in the future. Most of these are real people that existed during that time just like vinland saga characters.
One question, is our MC's name and the guy who betrayed are the same? And in the starting when the narrator explaining about a hero with a similar name right?, is it our mc or the guy betrayed us. Please explain without spoiler ✨✨✨🙏🏻
@@g.e2941 The "Ashikaga Takauji" mentioned by the narrator at the beginning of this story is the name of the man who betrayed , not the name of the protagonist of this story. The name "Ashikaga Takauji" appears in most Japanese elementary school history textbooks, so he is a well-known military commander to the Japanese. However, the protagonist, Hojo Tokiyuki, is not as well known. Probably, many Japanese, except for history buffs, had never heard of him until the comic strip "The Elusive Samurai" became popular.

I wasn't sure on the premise, but then I saw it was Cloverworks, and I had to watch, and I'm glad I did. This series is going to be wild. Glad you're enjoying this one too.
11:20 Someone probably brought it up, but the part about 800 clan members ending their own lives just sounds like they decided to clock out before whatever the soldiers might have had in store for them. It was pretty clear what they were capable of. As for the wings (14:50), it feels to me like the priest is elated that he's getting his hero, rather than anything real. All conjecture here, though, haven't read anything. As for them just casually walking away from the arrows, reminds me of how Ian McShane handles a volley of arrows: ruclips.net/video/nQvSCG8gczQ/видео.htmlsi=IUBja9xKxkPFnMyz&t=30
About 15 years ago, I went to the place where 800 members of the Hojo clan committed suicide (a temple called Tosho-ji in Kamakura). Even now, 700 years later, the temple has not been rebuilt, and it is now a lonely place surrounded by lush trees.
Damnnn! That turned dark real quick! 9.10, my face too! 9.31 guy got Sukuna’d 😮 Really liking this though: the style of the anime, music and that outro lol. The priest has Gojo's VA, and Michael has a Gojo top on, what more could I want? 😁😁
Hojo Tokiyuki is a real historical figure who appears in Japanese history textbooks for junior high school students. The Hojo clan, which monopolized the ruling structure of the Kamakura shogunate for generations, was the most powerful family in Japan at the time, despite its low status. Hojo Tokiyuki's great-grandfather is known as the leader who repelled the invasion of the Mongol Empire. Yorishige Suwa was the head of a clan of Shinto priests who had existed in Shinano (Nagano Prefecture) since the Archaic period, and was worshipped by the Japanese of that time as the second Living GOD after the emperor of Japan, in fact.

Casuals know this adaptation as a shounen about the dude who's good at running away... But legends know about Shana Oh Yoshitsune, the legendary and one of the most distinguished samurai of Japan. The legend of Ushiwaka and Benkei, where a lot of anime referenced from and his myth of being trained by tengu because of his overwhelmingly powerful skills anf battle sense. The dude who is loyal to his cause, to his family but ultimately defeated by his own trust. Such a good piece of history sheesh. It's actually talked about here, Minamoto no Yoritomo is Yoshitsune's brother who betrayed him because all the soldiers stand with yoshitsune instead of yoritomo even though yoshitsune doesn't have any intention of being a shogun. He just have a pure heart and willingness to help his brother become the ruler. He was ultimately betrayed by his own blood out of jealousy from his talents and charisma.
