I am in the midst of a crisis of nostalgia, so I found this video. Man, the old life was so much better, I miss the old corded phones, the VHS, audio tape and of course the music and my old friends ... the internet can be a great technological advance, but I would trade it for the way to be from the 90s without thinking twice.
Smartphones are way better and can be used anywhere whereas old day corded basically could be used only in 1 spot Also VHS were always unreliable and would degrade with every use as would cassette tapes so modern technology is 100% way better and portable
Bro, I would take VHS out of that statement, image quality is nowhere near today standards, even players were reliable, they would betray you at some point and in the worst way possible, specially those "silent" ones which relied on rubber belts for the load/eject system as those belts aged they started slipping, leaving the eject process halfway-through and ripping the tape into oblivion upon ejecting. Had 2 of my most favorite tapes ruined because of this
Oh man, this VCR is gentle with the slowdowns. My VCR always gave this loud THUNK sound (followed by some additional whining noises as the player still tried to ff the tape, until it finally gave up after 4 or 5 seconds) when it reached the end of the tape.
I has a symphic DVD/VCR combo which was made by Funai yes it did the same thing and rather slow at rewinding took about 5 minuets to rewind a T120 my panasonic VCR does much better
@SuperMarioLoudHouse2003 Since I have the VCR at my home Sony VHS/DVD player combo SLV-D300P, I try to fix inside with cleaning alcohol and some ear swabs. After I put the tape in, it plays fine but I'm having a glitch or static problem with one of the 2 rollers. You know the white static lines while plays. I could use some help. I use a screwdriver to make it clear when I'mh holding it down tight. I let it go and it make static. Help me to this solution.
Be careful, the Flash Rewind feature can cause quite a bit of stress to the tape. Overall good video, I like how it automatically slows down to the end or beginning of the movie too.
@@windestruct it's because a small light in the player will shine through the clear bit at the end of the tape and that will automatically tell the player when the end of the tape has been reached
@@windestruct you can't see the clear bit of the tape It's located at the very end of the tape but is hidden inside the video tape shell(this is the plastic parts that hold the tape and protect it too)
@@windestruct the clear bit is on each side of the tape and a small light will shine through it when the end of the tape has been reached This not only during Playback,it also happens when the tape is in Fast Forward and Rewind
Panasonic have the Super Drive rewinds. JVC's had the VA dubbing features under the flap so you can record your own voice acting soundtrack on a pirate copy or a taped off of the TV production. Sharp's have 6 Heads and SECAM and NTSC along with the normal PAL so it still works if you move to a different country with different tapes as long as you have the plug converters or if you wanted to play those tapes in the UK.
The reason why the DVD player is “broken” is because the machine is set to 480p DVD output, which only displays correctly through component video. It can be turned off by pressing the PROGRESSIVE button on the front. The blue light will stop shining and the picture will look correct on RF, composite, and S-Video. Since this video is old, I think you might’ve figured this out by now.
This is exactly the same tape cassette mechanism which is in, for example, in Samsung SVR-155. It was mostly known in CIS (former USSR) in the middle of 00's. I wondered that your Sony is just chinese mass product like my low-budget player.
Personally, I love VHS, there are so many tapes in diferent colors that it's hard to collect them all. The two reels holding the tapes inside have different shapes, I really find those fascinating, even the ones on the oversized hubs, and the clips that hold the beginning and the end of the tapes in different colors as well. The normal running time for a tape is about two hours. But for the oversized-hub tapes, about 30 minutes.
Ah the joys of rewinding tapes before returning them. If you guys remember there was a charge for not rewinding tapes. Like $40 or something at blockbuster?
You could if you wanted buy an E300 tape then make a homemade video of an SP into an LP into an EP then try the rewinding on one of those multi speed recorded as well as being a 5 hour tape bad boys.
It’s 2020 and some of my school vlogs are still shot on tape bejcase students are not allowed to bring phones into my school, so the only time I could film videos in class is when my teacher gives me tablets for an assignment
Awesome! I only paid a dollar for mine at a rummage sale. The only problem is the DVD player is busted on it, which is pretty annoying. But the VCR is what I bought it for, and it works great, so I'm happy about it.
Be prepared to take it apart when the DVD player dies ... the drive does nothing once it gives up the ghost ... the on screen menus won't work either mine says "please wait ... try again later" Just read the post about the lense being dirty not the case with mine the drawer will not open (if opened manually) it will not close (not a belt either) I researched it and as near as I tell the on board memory chip died and the electronic board won't communicate with the main board (in an infinite wait state) LOL
Ouch! That's TERRIBLY FAST.Might not be healthy for some very, very old tapes. The leader might snap off, tape torn apart, etc. I also have a not exactly this model, but very same mechanics. So flimsy when compared to mid 90's vcr. I've heard that late Sony's vcr were actually re-branded Samsung.Cost-cutting maybe?
+Vrabbers Yup it actually slow down somewhat when reaching the end,but that might be too late for some old brittle tapes - which might be your valuable ones. :(
I think the VCR mutes the sound because it would be too obnoxious to people and they didnt want to hear the squeaky sound. I thought it would be cool to hear it in the faster version though. only on audio tapes you can do that.
Actually it's because the tape is usually lifted off of the audio head to prevent excessive wear. The video heads get away with this because they're spinning at much a speed, it really isn't effecting them.
