There's nothing wrong with hanging on to sentimental stuff. I think as long as you have one box and only allow yourself whatever fits in it you're good. And maybe over time you can get a smaller box as you are more comfortable letting more go. I'm also on a minimalish journey. I want things around me I love, but I don't want excess. 🧡
I agree Gwen! I like hanging on to some sentimental stuff and just weeding through as I become more comfortable letting go. Good luck on your journey! 🧡
A system I came across for kids artwork that find super smart is to take pictures of your favorite kids artwork, notes, doodles etc and then make a photo book for it on Shutterfly (or other similar websites). I made books for my mom (before she passed away) and my grown son through there. the books were beautiful! Just an idea - then all that paper clutter is gone and one day you can just give your child their book(s). I will be doing this as part of my decluttering b/c I have 11 kids worth of school memories! Time to be real and thoughtful about what to include/keep. I remember when my mom passed away 2 years ago I was so overwhelmed with emotions when I was cleaning her things out (she died unexpectedly and suddenly) all I felt like was I was throwing her away. That was the hardest thing to come to terms with. I will have the memories forever. I don't need to keep the clutter around because one day my kids will have to deal with it - i don't want them to feel the way I did. Also something really cool I learned from listening to Dana K White (Decluttering at the speed of life) is have your container be your limiting factor. If it doesn't all fit in that container then it needs to be decluttered. I've used this method a lot around my house. If all the kitchen towels don't fit in my designated container (1 kitchen drawer) then I need to purge some of them. It goes for any sort of container be it a drawer, a cabinet, a shoe box or anything! I love you talking and explaining your process! Don't stop that! I really enjoyed seeing you be hard with your choices. It's so necessary! I finally got rid of most of our cards - I kept a few that's it. I like the little books you made out of yours. Paper clutter takes the longest to go through! You cracked me up with the letter to your hubby - I have tons of love letters from when my husband was away in BCT for the Army. I decided a few days ago I'm going to chuck/shred them (some are not for little ones eyes anyway lol)! Your closet turned out amazing and I strive for a look like that when I'm done! P.S. I'm also an Aries (March 30th)! 🧡
That Shutterfly idea is great! Thank you for sharing!! That is what I’m trying to avoid w my kids. I don’t want them to have to deal with all of the guilt during such an already stressful time. That is a great idea for when to declutter. For some reason we like to collect so much of everything. Also I think I want to check that book out! Also lol that’s why I tossed many of those letters. I’d cringe just thinking of my kids reading them one day lol!! Ditto on the paper clutter. I started my files today and literally fell asleep for 2 hours bc it’s so tedious. I’m so ready to have it all taken care of though so I’m pushing through! 🥴 I love that you’re an Aries! I’m April 1st! IMO we are the best zodiac, though I’m obviously biased!! 😂😂😂 Thank you so much for watching friend! 🧡🧡🧡
I found your talking to be very helpful. When I moved, I started with 17 boxes of photos, baby stuff (my kids are grown and out of the house). cards, schoolwork, and pictures/notes. It was hard to throw out the "I love you" notes even when I had a bunch of them. I did whittle it down to 4 large storage totes and have to do it again. I am enjoying this series!
Great Job! I loved watching. It brought back memories of when I decluttered my memory boxes 2 years ago. Here's what I did, maybe it will help with your decluttering. For the greeting cards I kept them all for 30 years & then when I started my decluttering journey, I got rid of almost 90% of them. I kept only a couple of the special ones my husband gave me. I had about 10 love letters he wrote me over the years & I kept all of them. They are in a neat little stack with a silk ribbon around them. They look beautiful now. I kept small keepsakes from my mom & dad & a few relatives that have all past. All of these special things are now in a small curio cabinet that hangs on the wall. It's there for me or whomever wants to see it. It feels good to honor these items & I cherish them so much more now than when they were in a box in the bottom of my closet. Hope this helps.
I love that you have it displayed! I think that was one of my goals - not to necessarily get rid of everything, but organize it and display it somehow. 🧡🧡
Hi sweet lady 🧡🧡, what an amazing and motivational video!!! I enjoy that you can laugh at yourself and that you realize that yes we all grow and change our thought process. You did a lot better then I did because when I’m going thru old pics or cards I go down a rabbit hole and start getting sad and realizing time flies and we must enjoy our kids because they grow so fast. Love seeing Charlie!! Lots of hugs and kisses 🙏🙏😘😘🧡🧡
Hey Ruby! I can get a bit sad too lol, time does move so so fast. It’s bittersweet 🥺😊 I’m glad you enjoyed seeing Charlie - he makes me happy! Thanks for watching! 🧡🧡
I loved you reading out the letter to your husband. Shoulders and hands lol. That made me laugh and cheer up a rainy Sunday morning here in wales. I've subscribed.
🧡. What a wonderful transformation! It was great motivation! Thank you! I like how you talk and explain your thought process. It helps me to get restarted on my decluttering process because it helps me look at certain items in a different way to help me get over being stuck on where and how to start. I love when Charlie makes an appearance and that you show him! Yes, all furbabies need to be shown to the camera! I agree! Haha Thanks again for another great video!
Hey Rachel! I’m glad you don’t mind me talking/explaining - that is what I prefer, but I know not everyone likes that. I agree…sometimes hearing someone else’s perspective helps you view things in new ways as well, even if only a little. Sometimes a fresh perspective is all we need! I love Charlie! I’m glad you enjoy seeing him as well! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for watching! 🧡
You did an amazing job! The joy on your face at the beginning of the video made me smile!! I went through all mine and my son's keepsakes during covid. I was able to purge a lot of my stuff, but could not part with much of my son's (he's 26). I organized it all , showed him, and apologized lol. I have my great-grandmother's bible and I did the same with all the family memorials. Love seeing Charlie too!! 🧡
🧡aw thank you so much Jenny for your sweet comment! It is hard to get rid of our kids’ stuff. I’m glad I held on to some of it and now have a way to display it. I love that you have your great-great grandmother’s bible! What a great family keepsake. Thank you so much for watching! 🧡
Great job decluttering your closet 😊😊! I also have a bin of cards😞. I have thrown a lot away but I did keep all the cards my husband gave me throughout our relationship. I just couldn’t throw those away 😞. And I did keep some cards and things my kids gave me when they were little. Going through and decluttering those sentimental items are so hard!!!!
The cards were the hardest for me to go through and declutter for sure! There’s something so personal about your loved one’s handwriting. I started limiting a certain number to keep per subject & that helped a lot. I was able to weed out a lot. I can say I don’t miss the ones I threw out. Thank you so much for watching! 🧡
Hey Amanda! We are doing great, thank you! We only lost power for about a day and a half and a little flooding our backyard. We are blessed! Thank you for watching, hope you enjoy the video! 🧡
So funny that as I am watching this - I have just pulled out my years of greeting cards trying to figure out what to do with them. Still haven't decided - but, your process and thoughts about keeping 12 of each was a great thought provoker. Thank you!
I took a 3 ring binder designed for plastic snap in folders. I use only a few of the plastic files for my jewelry... because I only use a few of those plastic files my jewelry fits in this "notebook" perfectly.
I only keep cards where the person wrote a personalized message. If it’s just a signature, I toss them. I wish I could be as ruthless as you were with your whole closet. New sub here 🧡
You are doing a great job. I only kept about 5 cards from people that have died that were close to me such as parents since I won’t ever get one from them again.
Hi Maria 😀 That’s why I saved some of them as well 🥺♥️ It’s bittersweet to open one up and see one from my dad. I’ll prob end up weeding through the other ones. It’s getting much easier to let go. Thanks for watching 🧡
Yes I keep Funeral programs because if it's from your family members. It's help when trying to create family trees. I only trash friends of the family that I not close to. I would do scrapbooking with the cards then give them to the person the cards were for.
The thing comes to mind about your decluttering is that when I read in the news about people who have died in a car accident. I think to myself set I hope that person had an orderly life.. Not leaving paperwork for taxes until the last minute... Not having a garage house filled topped a bottom with stuff.... Making sure that important papers including a will & updated passwords is in a safe deposit box
One of these days I will learn to wait till the end of the video to comment lol. I asked why you kept all the boxes cause in my head you put them all on the shelf again. So I wanted to apologize cause I saw how you stored them broken down, in a pile on the shelf which is what I have done with mine. By the way, you did an amazing job on that closet.

The sentimental stuff is hard- but each time you revisit it you can get rid of more based on your stage of life. You did amazing 👏🏻
Thank you! I do find that stuff to much more difficult but easier each time I visit. I love that feeling!
It always feels so good to declutter items we no longer use/need.
I love the feeling! 🧡
