UA needs 500 airframes with appropriate weaponry, pilots, ground crew, logistical personnel, fuel, mixed of F-16s, F-16Vs, and a few tip of the spear F-35s, just to control the frontline airspace. More for offensive operations. Throw in a couple of AWACS for strategic coordination.

In realities it is really quite complex training people originally trained on Soviet era planes vs western made.
They are two completely different aircraft for 2 seperate forces, Ukraine has never flown any western aircraft, so it will take time to take the Soviet mindset into a western made fighter.
Honestly they are better off putting new pilots through this training that are very good with English as doing it via translation would and will be a nightmare.
Either way I think it's not a game changer, by the time Ukraine gets its 2nd lot they'll have already lost the first 6 or more 🤔

The Flankers capabilities are well known inside US air force and is widely considered 'junk'. Against a near peer like the F-16, it would not fair well in a dogfight or BVR engagements. Ukraine pilots will benefit from years of American experience gained through dissimilar air combat training against Russian aircraft. Ukraine will receive the F-16 C/D block 52 MLU, are 'Joint Terminal Attack Controller' enabled and will primarily engage in interdicting logistics and CAS, it is unlikely Russia will allow their pilots to seek one on one engagements against the F-16 but focus on opportunities to defeat them with S-300/400 systems. As a side note, Israeli F-16 pilots routinely fly and defeat these systems in the highly contested airspace over Syria

the only flankers the us has flown against are su-27 and su-30, and the us air force doesn't consider it junk(only su-27 if not the upgraded) because if the were the case Indian su-30 wouldn't score simulated kills on us air force or navy aircraft

There is also the matter of the respective radar and intelligence interfaces. NATO has its drones flying over the Black Sea and its satellites overhead. The Ukrainians have demonstrated a superior ability to gather information from diverse sources and distill them down to targets of opportunity. The Russians, on the other hand, have displayed poor communication between the front and rear areas. This has resulted in a number of friendly fire incidents.

Sukhoi Su-35 have better radar and longer-range missiles. They will be able to detect an F-16 and destroy it before Ukrainian pilots even realise the Russian jet was there. Add multi layered defense anti air missiles and the plethora of training for decades the Russians have training against the F-16. They don't stand a f*cking chance. Saying this as an American. 😐 Get real.
And that's the dumbed down tiny explanation, not even mentioning a multitude of other undeniable reasons why it will make little to no difference whatsoever. 🥱

@@SincereSentinel Russia hasn't been able to achieve air superiority over Ukraine and it has failed to deal with even their Migs, also F-16 is road base capable so it will be damn hard for Russia to tell where they even are. What comes to repairs, F-16 is old jet and widely used all over the world, logistics which also includes repairs will have 0 issues what so ever, this is one of the reasons why Ukraine gets these and not Gripens. Also F-16 allows Ukraine to use any and all Western missile and bomb systems that is given to them, unlike now that they operate Migs and some sytems just can't be used with it.
SU-35 might be better on paper but as we have seen in this war, Russian papers and reality rarely meets. Also even if so, those jets too have failed to deal with Ukraine's Migs, the reason is obvious too. Russia isn't going to send them to Ukraine anymore they have sent Armat to Ukraine, too expensive to loose there and Ukraine does have Western air defense systems.
Russian training and multilayered air defenses doesn't exist in Ukraine, yet again, what Russia has in papers and in reality are quite different things, as we can see in Ukraine.
What this will give Ukraine is the air power they need, it allows them to strike Russian artillery and support their ground forces effectively, so it will change quite a lot.

Just think of these jets that the russians have a lot on the plus side but there are far more negatives with their Air Force. Ukraines Air Force has been receiving top level flight instructions for months, if not a year already. Those Ukraine pilots have probably more airtime than the russians current active fighters. Please note in my way of protesting this war I do not capitalize russia so hang in there with me.
russia has been forced to recall pilots up to the age of 68 years old. Most of the russian pilots who were great have been killed within the first days with all the MANPADS that were all throughout Ukraines frontlines even in the middle of the Eastern places in Ukraine. Those pilots that are flying now are dropping bombs on Belarus and Bellengrad; it's a common occurrence. I can think of 5 different instances where a SU-24 or SU-25 has dropped their version of a JADAM. That is basically a dumb boom with a gliding system that is attached to it that makes it fly without propellant. It is GPS targeted I believe.
The old russian pilots who were experienced from Syria, Chechen, Georgian wars and even Afghanistan. They are dead, or dying and flying a plane pulling 6g or 9g turns and maneuvers can make the youngest or experienced pilots blackout which can have stuff go badly very quickly. Ukraine did a very smart thing by storing their planes in safer areas to preserve them for a later fight. That was incredible foresight by the Generals or leadership that had the fortitude even during the worst times they restrained themself from using them. They have been fighting a ground, naval war with the use of drones as the bulk of the Navy and Air Forces. Not using NATO doctrine because you simply do not have the proper tools for the job and making a go of it when russia has had at one point or another. Total superiority in several means. Naval power and ability to project it for 10 years prior to the invasion. Almost 13 years now. Air Superiority since 2014 to current in most places. Currently they do not have it because of all the Anti Aircraft cannons and now high value Anti Air missiles and guidance systems to combine all of the systems together to guild which unit engages which target along with their own launchers. Electronic Warfare is something the russians have always been better at than the Western countries. We are several generations behind russia, China, and possibly North Korea, Iran. That is due to russia sharing and selling its tech to the highest bidder.
Getting back into the subject this all makes the russian Air Force useless to a point when they have to launch their ordinances inside russia to glide to Ukraine. When they have been flying they have been getting shot down left right and center. 5 Aircraft this week, well the last couple days alone. russian Helicopter situation is grim also with its KH-52 having roughly just been taken out of service. Either non able to fly due to parts not incoming from sanctions or Destroyed. russian AWACS type planes have gone from 10 to 7 with three damaged 3 destroyed 4 in possible service. With the way Ukraine has been thinning out the Crimea sectors one by one soon, Ukraine gets the ability to use HARM missiles prior to the F-16s entering the fight to take out the weapons guarding russian assets. A lot of russian get that they have thousands of different types they do not have. russian equipment is mostly made from foreign governments which are now crushing them with Sanctions which have teeth now. Never a good idea to source out your weapons parts to countries that can be friends one day enemies the next. I could ramble on but you will get bored so if you want more just let me know. The situation is not so grim as it appears for Ukraine yet. However if the allies keep dicking Ukraine around it maybe.

They are both excellent aircraft for Ukraine.
The Gripen has some advantage with it being less delicate for rougher runways, but that doesn't negate the fact the F-16 is a more powerful aircraft, which can fill more roles.
The biggest drawback to the Gripen is it doesn't have a large enough pipeline for parts, the way the much more widely used F-16 does.

Yep, they didn't have air support. Also with these, Ukraine can decimate Russian artillery quite freely, so it changes quite a lot. On top of that, it allows West to supply Ukraine with modern missiles that simply can't be used with Migs.

@@Captain_Accord F-16 can use road strips and bases, no need for air strips. All weapon systems will need logistics same as every soldier, this doesn't reallly change anything in that regard, also Ukraine do have manpower, it is nation of 50 million, i think they can keep bunch of F-16's in air which are easily supplied as it is so old and widely used jet when for example Finland is able to keep 64 F-35's in air even with 5,6 million population. The front is far from collapsing, it is heavily fortified, though Ukraine do need supplies badly.

And that’s not even talking about over a YEAR of training to even pilot the f-16 efficiently, you can’t honestly say they are just going to hop up in the sky and start destroying the Russian Air Force, it’s just not realistic. @@Captain_Accord Those jets are planned to be in air during war time too, it is not like Finnish military buys them to keep them on ground in case of war. Also Ukraine gets quite a lot of money from EU and USA, so the situation isn't that bleak, i mean if you stop and think about it, Ukraine managed to stop fully equipped Russian main assault wiht much less than what it has now. The thing is, Ukraine really do need air power to be able to effectively destroy Russian targets and have decent support for its ground attacks, without it, nothing will change. Ukrainian pilots have been trained around year all over the West, their training ends in the spring and these jets are in operational use by June. It is not that they suddenly just gave them.

given the scarcity of Russian fighter capable craft, 50 upgraded F16s would, i think, outmatch and overpower the opposition. TheRussians have already lost controle of the Black Sea, they will lose any pretense of air superiority. If Ukraine gets some longer range anti air missile systems, Russia will lose the ability to drop glide bombs from beyon the reach of Ukraine current anti aircraft umbrella.

Actually it changes quite a bit, Russia hasn't managed to gain air superiority over Ukraine even as is, with these things Ukraine can hit Russian artillery quite freely, also it enables Germany to give Taurus to Ukraine as with F-16, the pilot can target it instead of German engineers whom should do it as things are now, which is the reason Germany hasn't given them to Ukraine. Overall these things gives Ukraine better chances not only in defending but also attacking, as they have air support for their ground forces. Also this allows Western nations to give Ukraine quite modern air to air and air to ground missiles which simply can't be used with Ukrainian Migs.
