I genuinely immediately felt bad as soon as it ended. Its crazy that Kamaru & now Izzy have both lost 3 in a row. 2-3 years ago. I dont know many people who wouldve thought that was ever gonna happen...
It will eventually happen at some point. You cant expect a fighters will keep winning till 40 years old without losing. They are all human and life is real.

Even before Imavov won the hype team at UFC was talking about how this was the best Izzy yet in round 1 I could already tell he had lost a step. I think we all pinned his Strickland loss on him mentally cracking but upon retrospect thats the fight where he grew old. Hes just not been as fast with his reactions since the Pereira fight. Id argue the FIRST Pereira fight in the UFC. By the rematch he already looked worse but made the winning adjustment from the first fight. Age doesn't affect everyone the same. Some fighters can go into their 40s and still be NEAR their prime. Izzy has had a sizable dip in his ability IMO and thats why he looks slow and not the same Izzy. It makes the Strickland fight make sense as well bc it was clear he just wasnt on point there either.

But we’ve seen guys win after being hurt worse. Why not give him until you’re 100% certain it’s over? That was the first sequence of the fight in which he was hurt, it’s not like he had taken too much punishment prior and everyone had seen enough. People are saying “he was covering up not intelligently defending”for like one or maybe two seconds… would it really kill Goddard to give a guy a few more seconds before calling a TKO? More fans need to call this out because it’s a constant problem with Goddard.
What else did you want to see dude? Izzy’s eyes hanging out of their socket? That stoppage was spot on, any longer would have been unnecessary damage he doesn’t need. And that first fight against Alex at MSG was also a good stoppage, he wasn’t defending himself and was seconds away from being kneed in the face in brutal fashion. People need to realize that the time at the top is very short and all the champions had their time once but need to fight levels below the top level. It's extremely rare to be at the very top for over a decade.

I think he lost a level of confidence that you don't just regain so easily later in life, if at all. Physically hes lost a step and mentally I dont think he's as unflinching as he was. Speed and reaction time is the first to go and thats whats happened.
His fighting style was never meant for longevity. It’s just not sustainable with the factors of age. But that’s all he knows and it’s failing him now and I don’t think he even realizes it.

Izzy looked slow, he was completely in range the whole fight. It was an inevitable for him not to get knocked out. No head movement or anything. It looked like he was fighting in slow motion compared to how he used to fight. He’s aged really fast his twitch muscles are just not firing on all cylinders anymore.. Hopefully he does bounce back though.
Maybe I’m wrong, but ever since that Alex TKO, Izzy’s chin hasn’t been the same. Even Strickland put him down after those fights. If he keeps going, I see more losses like this in his future. It might be time to call it.

Yeah he's had over 100 pro fights between his kickboxing/Muay Thai, Boxing and MMA and his chin has definitely been tested: the 4 fights with Alex, Romero, and Jan B. All 3 of those guys hit like a truck and they all tested his chin. The 1st sign of it was his fight with Strickland where he got caught in the 1st round

Offensively Izzy still got it. Defensively he improved with grappling defense and takedown defense but he lost a lot of instincts when someone rushes him . And hes not throwing enough power to get his opponents respect. When izzy has his opponents respect he will dissect you and beat the best ever

The first round was amazing he did a good job, but got caught in the second round. His chin was way too high and made for an easy target. I don't think it was an early stop Izzy got knocked into next week and he was done. He needs to think about if he still has a passion for fighting. He's done everything he needed to do in his division and has fought and beat some of the best fighters the UFC has to offer. If he no longer has a passion for fighter he should hang it up. But if he truly still loves fighting he needs to switch up his fighting style, because opponents have studied it and figured it out. He needs a new game plan. Either way no one can take away his accomplishments, he is without a doubt one of the greatest fighters in the UFC and MMA!

Adesanya has taken so much punishment over more than a hundred professional fights in different sports and I guess that is just catching up with him. It may be time to get out before it is too late and the damage will become too much and basically ruin the rest of his life.

Izzy used to be able to fight going backwards. He could go backwards because he could counter everything the opponent was doing. I don't know why it doesn't work any more. Now people just pressure him and try to land a big punch. People aren't afraid of being countered any more. I don't know if he can fight going forward and being the aggressor in the future. This is the first time I have watched a live event in like 4 years. I wish I didn't.

not really?? i know people love Alex but he hasn’t obviously surpassed him. Alex is 1-1 with him personally in the UFC, and has fewer defences in a far far weaker division. Only thing he has over him is double champ, but even that isn’t unshakeable.

Izzy used to be able to fight going backwards. He could go backwards because he could counter everything the opponent was doing. I don't know why it doesn't work any more. Now people just pressure him and try to land a big punch. People aren't afraid of being countered any more. I don't know if he can fight going forward and being the aggressor in the future.
