you are bang on the money here I used to be a Samsung fanboy but I've switched to op open and its an amazing device and I cant put it down. The 67w charging is unbelievable compared to my z fold 4. The inside screen ?? WOW it's genuinely like looking at a pc monitor at times watching RUclips. 10/10. Great vid btw 👍
Hahaha, thanks Jennings! 💪 I appreciate that! I try my best to make enjoyable content for you guys so I appreciate you letting me know you enjoy it 😁 And your first sentence made me crack up so thank you 😂
Pro tip: Most people are right handed. Whichever device the tech reviewer keeps in roght hand the most is the phone they prefer.... Even if they dont say so.
The biggest thing stopping me from purchasing the oneplus over Samsung’s fold 5 is the lack of flexibility for 3 apps open simultaneously and the never ending bugs with oneplus phones that never get fixed.. I most often use a app open on the top as a banner for graphical content and two other apps open for multitasking and sometimes a extra pop up window.. having only two columns of app’s available at the same time is far from ideal.
The outer screen on the Fold 5 is like it for a reason. Well 2 reasons. Firstly, its exceptionally easy to use one handed for quick tasks and is so easy to hold one handed due to the lack of width. Secondly, the inner screen is optimal for most apps. The wider aspect ratios of the OnePlus and Google folds is really not optimised very well and you have to keep rotating them or apps get stretched. Also the software on Google and Oneplus is nowhere near as optimised, especially the fact you cant have different home screen layouts! Samsung know what they are doing .
If narrow phones were preferred by the mainstream then there would be such a size ratio on candy bar style phone out there, there isn’t. Even the iPhone mini is wider than the stupid Samsung cover display. It’s so narrow it’s basically unusable, I’ve owned Samsung fold 1, 2, 3, 4 all these years and almost never used the outside display and always had to unfold because it was too small, I skipped the z 5 this year got the pixel fold and oneplus fold and never going back to Samsung unless they widen it.
That is your preference, but for the majority, it is clearly not, as every other fold device has a wider display and polls on Twitter suggest>80% want a wider Fold 6. Samsung got this wrong but is hesitant to own up to it due to the incessant Samsung noise from fans who praise them. Apps designed for a candy bar aspect ratio will work much better on the OnePlus inner and outer displays than squashing them on the Fold 5 inner (split-screen) and outer displays. The reality is that the Galaxy Fold is compromised, and as Samsung mucked up the gap and hinge (so they do get stuff wrong), they will also correct the aspect ratio with the Fold 6, and you will enjoy it as you can use the front display whenever you do not want to open, and not be compromised.
I suppose the millions of people who bought the Fold 5 and the folds before it just bought it even though they absolutely hate the front screen right? Nonsense!
@@Gamer_85 They bought it because the Galaxy Fold was the only fold during that time. Now people are seeing the Pixel and OnePlus as well as Chinese folds and are deserting the Galaxy Fold 5; Samsung admitted sales are very disappointing, hence big discounts as they try and sell unwanted Fold 5's.
@@andyH_England the pixel fold is trash! Inner screen is awful and apps aren't optimised or have to be stretched. Can't even have 2 different home screens and the outer screen is too wide and short. Imagine thinking the pixel fold is a better option!
I was poking around YT looking for reviews to confirm that I didn't just waste 1500 on the One Plus Open. Then I saw the Eagles hoodie and USMA T-shirt and had to reach out. I'm a USMA guy from philly too!
I was hesitating between the two but I decided to go for Samsung after last 4 years spent on OnePlus phones. Lens flare, lack of wireless charging, lack of desktop mode helped me to decide. I would be happy with any of them to be honest. If Honor can improve their software for the global release they would be like top 3 foldables in Q1 2023.
On my oneplus 11, it was the first phone I wouldn't charge overnight. It would barely lose any charge overnight, and I'd charge at 80W while in the shower in the morning, going to work with a full charge.
I traded a Fold 4 for a Flip 5 last year and am ready to return to the fold...pun intended. Not paying Samsung $1300 plus even with a trade in. I really am impressed with the Open and will buy the Apex Crimson Red if priced decently. I can get the regular Open for $825. Please help me decide if the Open still makes sense. Are you happy? Should I get insurance if purchased?
Awesome review. Great comparison. I agree the OP is a great device and have almost pulled the trigger several times. For me, however, I still prefer the Fold 5 and OneUI. I am, however, excited and glad OnePlus has entered the US market as I am hoping it will light a serious fire under Sammy's behind. I am looking forward to seeing what the Fold 6 will offer.
Agreed, Emanuel! It's great another competitor has entered the fray to get these other companies to step their game up. Big win for consumers! Great insight!
Guys , I did pull the trigger and the one plus open is so amiazing . The fast charging out weighs the wireless. And the exeperience of the Oxygen OS has been great. If your on the fence I would say give it a shot. Depending on where its purchased you have a return window.
Great comparison. I've been looking into getting a foldable and have been really impressed with the Open. My only concern is software and update support. OnePlus haven't been the best when it comes to keeping their phones up to date. Also add into that the resale value of those phones and although it's a great phone with in my opinion a much more useful cover screen, I think the Fold 5 is the better option this year.
@@victorokechukwu8629 really? My son has had a few of their phones and updates took forever and they are only promising 2 years of Android updates for a £1600 device.
How did the whole situation with you returning the phone for the damaged screen go? Was it a pleasant experience? I'm thinking about trading in the s24 ultra to get this would that be okay decision because I want to phone that I'm going to keep for the long run.
I got my OP couple days ago. Still keeping my fold 5. I'll try the OP for a few weeks and decide. First impressions of the OP.... way better battery, way better crease, slightly better pics, way faster charging, screens are a tie, little bit brighter but auto brightness is not very good., software: different but both have really good things multitasking beasts both of them. Form factor...better for sure. I'm not missing wireless charging at all. Pen support is Ok with the oppo pen...not an issue. HOWEVER some prior concerns: ..for some reason...fold 5 screens are delivering a better color expression. Once using the OP for a few hours...kinda start finding that the fold 5 front screen is not that bad. Feeling on hand is better for me and overall quality impression is better...for now. Time will tell.
@David.AVelez like there is a haze to them like maybe your color grading? At the 530 mark of this video it looks good, but most of the videos have a bit of clarity issue to me.
David, your videos are great. If you had to pick to have a daily driver would you pick the OnePlus open or the S23 ultra? I traded my s23 ultra to get the OnePlus open. My second line has the z-fold 5. I don't think it really makes sense to have two foldables so I was debating buying the s23 ultra again and selling the z fold 5. My only fear of doing this is that I'm going to be going back and forth everyday and if I should use the OnePlus open on my main line or the s23 ultra and have a normal type phone on my main line. Anybody who reads this feel free to chime in. I really like the OnePlus open. Battery life for me has not been as great as everybody else has got but maybe it's because I don't have the best service where I live. However I got one of those grips on the back of the phone and it makes it so much easier to actually use open. I do love the fact that you could use it as a normal phone and have that tablet experience. Just looking for some feedback from everybody
Amazing Review! You project a "I don't brook no Bullshit" type of tech youtuber. An important thing you need to remind your viewers to always consider that the phone they are buying has an Authorized Repair Center in their country. At this price point, you need to be sure there is a Service Center for just in case moments. I have the Fold 5 with a 2 year Full Replacement Warranty. I love the Open but with no service center here in the Philippines, Super Deal Breaker! Have A Great Day!
Everyone Al gets the pen wrong. While it’s true the Open does not have an Open or O pen. The Open has a sister phone that does have a pen, and that pen is 100% compatible with the open. Not to mention that any stylus pen that you can get off Amazon, eBay etc will work just fine on the open.
@@mjmillionsusing for 1 week.. One plus ...good except oxygen software which we will take some time to adapt...as Samsung software is bit more polished.. I'm incredibly torn it's my first time buying a folding phone and my first time in over a decade (maybe more) that I'm considering outside of Samsung. But I'm leaning towards the open. My only major concern is the water resistance rating..
The Open is great! There are quite a few things i prefer over the Fold. I think the water thing is not really a problem unless you're taking a shower with your phone (I sometimes text in the shower haha, but have never had a problem) Let me know what you go with!
@@DavidAVelez1 I actually ordered paid for and got the one plus open. But I live a more aggressive and busy life I was so paranoid about breaking it for the first time ever I returned it. And today just placed my order for the S24 Ultra. Having access to more durable cases and one tougher screen really became the deciding factor.
@@DavidAVelez1 the large camera also lead to more worry. My concerns with the Open are warranty repairs and software support. Plus Samsung is having some awesome deals right now so I just bought a fold five with 512 gigabytes of storage for $900. I'm trading in my Pixel 7 pro.
@@michaelbarber8388 I ordered through the Samsung app. They're offering a free storage upgrade and I traded in my pixel 7 pro. I also get a discount through my work.
I was going to take out insurance for mine so if it gets damaged they should replace it - I feel like it makes a lot of sense for this phone given that getting it repaired probably won't be easy
The best foldable I have owned. The cover screen is great, I love the multitasking as well as the cameras . I am a professional photographer and this foldable has great optics for a foldable.
I want a foldable but i think i have to give them another 2 or 3 generations to figure stuff out a little more. The 2nd gen of the open will probably be really good but i just cant do it with how much of a pain it is to get a one plus fixed. If it was like apple where i could just walk into any apple store and get my phone fixed, id probably try out the next gen.
David's one handsome fella. 😂I had to subscribe as I'll have to go see what other videos may be appealing 😊 However, I'm a hard Samsung stan as well and would love to know if he had limited income and the phone would be his to use every day for at least 2+ yrs what choice which would he make? Also, what feature would be missed the most going from Samsung Z to the Plus 1? 🤔 Samsung software is unique to Samsung, which causes it to link with all Samsung products with ease, I think that'd be what I would miss. I have all the accessories, like watches and tablets. I have tvs and appliances as well. Pairing is a breeze, and everything works together. Samsung pairs easily as well. Their software is always accepted by any appliance, no matter how gimmicky the appliance is. I'm wondering how Plus 1 will work with Samsung watches and pairing to other smart devices from any brand.
I'm trading my fold 5 for one plus open. Just ordered my open today. Hope I made the right decision. Thoughts? I just got s24 ultra and have iPhone 15 pro I use daily. My name Is Pete and I have a problem lol. Also have google fold and google pro. Lol.
I would love to buy this fold but nobody ever talks about how much it will cost to replace the inside screen considering it's the main part I worry the most if it breaks for failed. Maybe it cost too much, maybe it's not replaceable, etc why nobody ever talks about it or shows RUclips videos on how to replace it. Big red flag IMHO.
I think no one notices the water resistance and the form factor of the fold is the best. It's meant to be the best screen ratio when its opened up. the Open is cool but its a square@@DavidAVelez1

Great video, I believe the quality and color grading of your videos will improve over time.
Really well done David. I love my OnePlus Open and definitely prefer it to the Z Fold. Btw, OnePlus will be offering Microsoft desktop support with Android 14!
Hey, Markus! Super happy to hear you're loving your OPO also!
Wait.... I did not know that about the Microsoft Desktop support, that's huge! Thank you for the notice!
Jumped on a deal for the Open for $1000 shipped. Jumped on it and love it. The fold never got my attention after testing it and the elongated screen was a deal breaker for me. It was just not comfortable.
FOR $1K?!?! GREAT DEAL! Wow enjoy! The Open is a beast 💪
@@DavidAVelez1 yeaahh..paid for it. No hesitation. I agree its a beast.
you are bang on the money here I used to be a Samsung fanboy but I've switched to op open and its an amazing device and I cant put it down. The 67w charging is unbelievable compared to my z fold 4. The inside screen ?? WOW it's genuinely like looking at a pc monitor at times watching RUclips. 10/10. Great vid btw 👍
Sick a good review. That shot at 6 mins of the OP Open's multitasking UI is crazy 🔥🔥
The Canvas Mode is EXCELLENT! I love it a ton! Do you have one?
Oppo Pen has a retractable tip much like the Fold 4 S Pen does. I would not worry about damage. AND it works on the outer display too.
I didn't know that! I haven't used one so I appreciate the insight here big time!
@@DavidAVelez1 yeah... bought one on eBay. It took 10 days to arrive but works well. Not as feature rich as the S Pen but still good.
May try the pen
Nice video bro 👌
Is the contrast set deliberately low for this video or camera specific thing ?
Dang Dave, you charismatic suave mofo you! Subscribed off the intro brotha! Your video quality and presentation are goals
Hahaha, thanks Jennings! 💪 I appreciate that! I try my best to make enjoyable content for you guys so I appreciate you letting me know you enjoy it 😁 And your first sentence made me crack up so thank you 😂
Pro tip:
Most people are right handed.
Whichever device the tech reviewer keeps in roght hand the most is the phone they prefer.... Even if they dont say so.
I'm a OnePlus Open fan.
I have the fold 4 but I am seriously debating going over to the open
Go for it..u won't repent...
I appreciate your filming style 🙌🏾 great review/comparison
Does OnePlus have special DAC or Amp for better sound?
Good question! Unfortunately not!
When it comes to work productivity which one works best for you?
Great comparison. I've been looking into getting a foldable and have been really impressed with the Open. My only concern is software and update support. OnePlus haven't been the best when it comes to keeping their phones up to date. Also add into that the resale value of those phones and although it's a great phone with in my opinion a much more useful cover screen, I think the Fold 5 is the better option this year.
Oneplus are the best out there when it comes to software support for their devices
@@victorokechukwu8629 really? My son has had a few of their phones and updates took forever and they are only promising 2 years of Android updates for a £1600 device.
There's 4 years of software updates and 5 years of security updates
How did the whole situation with you returning the phone for the damaged screen go? Was it a pleasant experience? I'm thinking about trading in the s24 ultra to get this would that be okay decision because I want to phone that I'm going to keep for the long run.
I say the Fold 5 hands down. It has:
-Dex
-Stylus
-Tablet Mode
-Battery Longevity
Technically the Open has all the same things, except for Dex.
@@The_Brimada true
Hey, Ken! Thanks for chiming in as always!
Surprisingly, the OPen hits all of those but dex! One Plus did a great job on their first go around!
@@The_Brimada Yes! One Plus surprisingly did a fantastic job on the first go around
I would argue better cameras too. Specs wise the cameras are worse, but I prefer the actual processing of. The Fold 5
Currently using the OnePlus open and love it.
Honestly really want to watch your videos, but why are your videos so cloudy?
Hey, Nick! I appreciate you wanting to watch the content here 😁
What do you mean by cloudy exactly?
@David.AVelez like there is a haze to them like maybe your color grading? At the 530 mark of this video it looks good, but most of the videos have a bit of clarity issue to me.
Great review.
Also, not proud of this, but the O-PEN joke made me subscribe.
I can't wait to get oneplus open. It's going to be my first foldable.
Excited for what Samsung has in store for the Z Fold6. Also, Fly Eagles Fly!
LOVE THE EAGLES PFP
GO BIRDS
And same! Hopefully they adopt the larger outer screen!
Made the move from Fold5 to One Plus Open...😊
Keep us posted I'm considering the same
@@mjmillionsusing for 1 week..
One plus ...good except oxygen software which we will take some time to adapt...as Samsung software is bit more polished..
Camera wise...it is blend of iPhone/pixel as the saturation aspect is bit less which is good (not great), but u have many filter apps which can enhance photos..where as Samsung pics are bit more saturated.
I don't use dex, spen or wireless charging much, hence the move didn't bother me much.ur prefence on these 3 aspects.
Speakers are good on both..if u use Samsung pay..u may miss it if u r using it as I was using it.

I literally had an epiphany mid-recording 😂😂😂
the oneplus does have stylus support the oppo pen is a smart pen like the spen. just so you know
Great review. I have seen one of your videos and subscribed. You're in my tech rotation. FYI, I still see you wearing the apple watch ultra, lol. Im in the same boat. Love my z fold, but i love the apple watch ultra, too. I do use one phone for work (coperate world) and one for personal. But im on my z fold more than anything. It's a multi task beast.
that speaker looks legit 🔊 🎯 👌🏼 nicely thought out design, excellent review btw ✌🏼😅
It's honestly really good! My family has been using it to connect to the TV as a sound system 😂
I'm glad you enjoyed the review also! Which side are you on?
gotta say the 1Plus..overall. it really is a matter of personal preference and wow, the technology is becoming so polished and refined ✅ 🎯 📲 thx again, for the excellent content & perspective!
I think the water thing is not really a problem unless you're taking a shower with your phone (I sometimes text in the shower haha, but have never had a problem)
Let me know what you go with!
I spent just as much time hoping it didn't break or get hit that I spent almost 10-15x's the mental energy just worrying about the safety of the phone. And being I was updating from a note 20 ultra. I keep phones for a while and that was not sustainable. Your first video truly was the one that sold me on the OP open you returning it due to the screen damage caused the paranoia 😂 but I'm beyond excited for the S24 Ultra hope you have the chance to review it!

Best tech RUclipsr out there!!!
My concerns with the Open are warranty repairs and software support. Plus Samsung is having some awesome deals right now so I just bought a fold five with 512 gigabytes of storage for $900. I'm trading in my Pixel 7 pro.
That's a fantastic deal for the Fold 5, heck yes! Super happy to hear you got it for that price!

I was going to take out insurance for mine so if it gets damaged they should replace it - I feel like it makes a lot of sense for this phone given that getting it repaired probably won't be easy
Love the video, bro!
This guy is making treat vids. Only thing i would say reduce that filter colour
Hi Beautiful David!! I need this video. Thank you! I’ve been thinking about upgrading my Z Fold 4.
Really impressed by open I feel it's better than z fold 5 in most areas
Right! I've been super impressed as well. They did a great job on the first go around!
Leaning toward the open. Just waiting for it to show up in the mail.
Will open work on verizon
Well this is a win for the OnePlus it seems the camera is amazing
The best foldable I have owned. The cover screen is great, I love the multitasking as well as the cameras . I am a professional photographer and this foldable has great optics for a foldable.
It's amazing! I'm so suprised by how much OP nailed this on their first try.
Ok, I’m leaning towards the Open…
I can't tell you how surprised I was that I like it that much 😂
I want a foldable but i think i have to give them another 2 or 3 generations to figure stuff out a little more. The 2nd gen of the open will probably be really good but i just cant do it with how much of a pain it is to get a one plus fixed. If it was like apple where i could just walk into any apple store and get my phone fixed, id probably try out the next gen.
The only reason I don't get one is because of the screen. I'm scared of it breaking
Does anyone know if ill able to use my samsung pass cards on the one plus? Can i use one plus for my digital phone pay?
David's one handsome fella. 😂I had to subscribe as I'll have to go see what other videos may be appealing 😊
However, I'm a hard Samsung stan as well and would love to know if he had limited income and the phone would be his to use every day for at least 2+ yrs what choice which would he make? Also, what feature would be missed the most going from Samsung Z to the Plus 1? 🤔 Samsung software is unique to Samsung, which causes it to link with all Samsung products with ease, I think that'd be what I would miss. I have all the accessories, like watches and tablets. I have tvs and appliances as well. Pairing is a breeze, and everything works together. Samsung pairs easily as well. Their software is always accepted by any appliance, no matter how gimmicky the appliance is. I'm wondering how Plus 1 will work with Samsung watches and pairing to other smart devices from any brand.
Oppo N Fold.. thats what the OnePlus open is and that's they did great the first time causes of Oppo
I'm trading my fold 5 for one plus open. Just ordered my open today. Hope I made the right decision. Thoughts? I just got s24 ultra and have iPhone 15 pro I use daily. My name Is Pete and I have a problem lol. Also have google fold and google pro. Lol.
Camera comparison is definitely a toss up
Definitely agreed! Both are strong in different areas
@David.AVelez they're so similar it's hard to tell, so I give win to both.
Good videos bud.
Just ordered a case on Amazon that comes with a
built in smart pen
I would love to buy this fold but nobody ever talks about how much it will cost to replace the inside screen considering it's the main part I worry the most if it breaks for failed. Maybe it cost too much, maybe it's not replaceable, etc why nobody ever talks about it or shows RUclips videos on how to replace it. Big red flag IMHO.
Only issue with oneplus is durability, support, and resale value. Otherwise great
Hi I think fold 5 wins only for the street price. in Italy blu 12/256 1119 euro...game over
DAVID, what style of jeans are you wearing? You know they have that rounded crotch. I called them Justin Bieber pants but I know that's not right lol.
One plus open is the best foldable now
Fold 5 for me all the way
Definitely understandable! What are you liking about it?
I think no one notices the water resistance and the form factor of the fold is the best. It's meant to be the best screen ratio when its opened up. the Open is cool but its a square@@DavidAVelez1
The oneplus DOES have S Pen support and it's on the front screen as well as the inside screen, OPPO fine 3 S pen
