    Got the Magic Keyboard for my 12.9” and I absolutely love it. I’m at university and use it every single day; the typing experience is great, trackpad good, the case is protective enough for the iPad, and it’s overall just the missing partner that the iPad needed! Only complaint is that I wish the iPad was able to be titled further back like a MacBook!

      @RumbleRish 3 года назад +5

      @@Alan-Jones-Creator-Diary Hi, I agree with Samuel’s reply. Personally I got the 12.9” because its larger screen allows me to better multitask and just fit more onto the screen at once. It makes it feel like a laptop more than a 11” would. I think if you’re using it as a laptop (take notes, homework, etc.) then go for the 12.9, if you’re using it primarily for entertainment (RUclips, games) then the 11 would be great.

    I bought the magic keyboard for my 11" ipad. I was hesitant at first coz of the price and I was using a mouse and a bluetooth keyboard. But I never knew it would be easier for me to conduct online classes (since I can share screen my ipad in zoom) as it's more sturdy while I write during my lectures. It's also less stressful on my neck when I annotate and read articles for my PhD thesis and it's easier to scroll!

      When you share your screen on the iPad, doesn’t it stop the video? Another issue I had with zoom on the iPad is that if I want to share a RUclips video, it doesn’t work!
      Another question for you would be if you read and annotate with the iPad on the keyboard. I still can’t make up my mind about buying the MK or not! It’s too much money and I want to be sure it’s worth it. Please, I’m appreciate it if you answer me.

      Hi @@Pameliux23! What I usually do is that I convert my powerpoint slides into PDF and then I use goodnotes. When I use the share screen , the handouts are shown in full-screen mode without the nuisances of the options when I use notability. Though yes, it will pause the video when you share screen but you just have to click the "resume video" before proceeding with your presentation. When I read and annotate when I read articles or comment on students' works, I usually just remove it from the MK and just use the Apple Pencil. I love my magic keyboard… when it works. The problem I have is that whenever multitasking the keyboard intermittently stops working. This can be as simple as having Zoom, Safari in split screen, or Safari and Notes open side by side. It’s extremely frustrating. The only way to get it to work again is to 1) reboot the iPad :0( or 2) open Settings an search for a setting (any setting) for some reason this seems to break whatever is locked up free. But I had to to stumble upon this last hack workaround. Very disappointing for Apple. What happened to the days when quality was #1 for Apple?

    The demonstration of keyboard sounds near the beginning sound nowhere near the way the keyboard sounds in person, or in other videos I’ve seen! I think your mic setup + acoustics issues in the new space are sabotaging you there!
    I’ve had the 11” iPad with Magic Keyboard now for 2.5 weeks now, and I love it! I haven’t tried to take my iPad anywhere yet though so the heft of it in my bag might give me different thoughts... so far at home it’s great though! I had a Pipetto origami case on my old iPad (leather on the cover, and a somewhat annoyingly brittle clear plastic on the back), and sometimes I do miss that in some ways. If I want to write or draw on the iPad I’m taking it out of the keyboard case, but then the darn thing seems really slippery to try and hold! The folded over leather part of the origami case on my old iPad did add some grippiness. Also I’m very aware of it being vulnerable to scratches or drops while it’s out of the case, so I kinda feel like I need some kind of leather or fabric thin case or something to protect the back and add some grip... haven’t figured out what to do there yet, because it would need to be something really quick and easy to take on and off or it starts to become a hassle!

      Ive had mine since March and i must say that the material is not as bad as some where saying. I also heard that some stains wouldn’t come out and that is a lie. This keyboard has held its own as far as i am concerned. Once you get used to all the gestures etc there’s no going back. In fact of lately, i have been using my magic keyboard even when I’m not typing. My only grip is the protection for the iPad, i had an accident and my iPad fell from a small table and came out of the keyboard case. I managed to escape with a very tiny scuff near the volume button. But hey nothings perfect, i will never go back to not having a magic keyboard for anything, even the pencil i hardly use now and that’s because the magic keyboard is just so capable. I wasted a lot of money trying to avoid buying the magic keyboard, in the end i gave it a go, and you know what? All these other mouses and trackpads etc i had to sell because you just wont need or even want to use them once you have a magic keyboard.

    • @james_godfrey
      @james_godfrey 3 года назад +6

      @@personal-development-strategy yeah it’s not bad, but it doesn’t leave much to be desired... mine came with tiny dots where the metal underneath was showing through, contacted Apple and they said it’s general wear and tear. The next keyboard definitely needs to be some sort of leather material or some other harder wearing material in my opinion.
      Everyone’s experience will be different depending on where and how your using the keyboard, but I think the vast majority will see plenty of scrapes, scuffs, marks and fraying after 12 months of general use 100%, after a couple of years I dread to think, this keyboard should not have to be replaced every other year at the price point.
      Now had it have been $200/$250 that would be far more acceptable.
      Material aside, the magic keyboard is absolutely brilliant and I definitely would not let the material put you off for a second, as you can always get a skin or something for it if needed.

    Great video - as always. Couple of things on the space: 1. The sound has a slight echo - seems like it needs some kind of sound dampening on the walls or different mic/mix settings. Love the table - looks great. But it kind of blends in with the wall. I love the wall too but it blends in with the desk! I think somehow one of the two needs to be differentiated - just would be more pleasing on the eyes. How about lighting up the wall with some colored lights or something to set it apart? Keep up the great work.

BUT whenever I’m doing homework for example, i have multitask on and when i use control F to find, it wont type at all on the actual side i want it to, even after i click on the actual side, it’ll just work on one side. I have to completely get rid of the other view (meaning now I’m on just one app and not two) for it to actually perform its function. The fact that a function row is not present, and also the fact I would also bang my fingers a lot under the iPad while typing at full speed is why I largely prefer the Logitech Combo touch keyboard. Not only does the combo touch offer a full function row that offers a home button and auto lock button, but I prefer the viewing angles the keyboard case offers over the Magic Keyboard case.
    You also can’t beat the price tag on the Combo touch over the Magic Keyboard case. Also if you are on the go a lot; I would recommend the combo touch just because it offers more protection than the Magic Keyboard case and material of the case just holds up better than that of the Magic keyboard case; aka “fingerprint king”

    my ipad pro 12.9“ is the first model… I struggle with the decision to get the current generation… I don’t know what’s better in my case… macbook air M1 or 12.9 ipad pro M1? I already own a 15“ macbook pro also but it’s too heavy in my backpack where are 3 lenses, camera, drone and tripod…
    if apple would finally work on ipad OS to make the ipad feel more like a computer… the hardware is ready but the software not… at least they should put finalcut on the ipad… I mean the current gen of the ipad pro got so much power but how to take advantage of it actually?

    I have the same set up and I love it. Though honestly, I clicked this video hoping to see fixes for the 2 problems I have with this keyboard. One, I often use accent keys and foreign letters. On the screen keyboard, or my iMac at home, and my iPhone, if you hold a key, all the accent options appear and you can pick the one you need. It does not work on this keyboard, and I actually have to dismount the iPad every time I need a special letter. The other, that I have noticed in my ‘Translator’ app (which I use frequently), the space bar doesn’t work. I can’t imagine why. I can’t make spaces when I type and I must dismount the iPad to type in my translator. I’m hoping for future patches for both issues. Other than that, I love it.

    Really appreciate this review. I've been torn; in the past when travelling, I've grabbed my iMac's Magic Keyboard and packed it with me, but despite how light and thin it is, it's one more thing I have to remember to pack and one more thing that adds bulk to my bag, which I'd honestly rather delegate to snacks. 🤣 Rather than replacing my old MacBook Pro 13", which I really only ever used when traveling, adding the Magic Keyboard to my shiny new iPad Pro may be the better way to resolve that particular issue . . .

    Is the trackpad worth it if you just want to write a lot?... I mean the device is touch screen, so what’s the use of the trackpad as a writer? I’m still leaning towards the Smart Keyboard. The magic keyboard has a little too many flaws for its incredibly steep price imo

    Hey Chris,
    I like the points you had made during your video. What I had found while using my iPad during COVID and what I had realized while using the Magic Keyboard; is that I really prefer using my MBP over my iPad. As great as the apps are from the App store, they just don't offer the features you get from using the desktop versions; namely Microsoft 365. Also, for me, the iPad and the iPhone rely too much on iCloud for my taste to ensure that your information is backed up. I'm still old school to where I would rather have a hard copy backup on my MBP to rely on than trusting the cloud with my iMessage and text messages.
    I will say, and I agree with you that the Magic Keyboard offers the best typing experience for the iPad. However, I still prefer the typing experience on my MBP. I also prefer answering emails and watching media on my MBP over my iPad Pro. The iPad for me at this point is just a redundant machine, it does not offer any benefit over using my MBP. Yes, sidecar is great and it's cool to have a second portable screen, but I find for myself I don't need that.
    So after realizing all of that, that left only one thing that I was really using my iPad Pro for, and that was gaming. I really enjoy PUBG, and I enjoyed playing it on the iPad, and yes you can't play it on the MBP; at least I haven't figured out how on MacOS, however, I have found other games I enjoy even more after purchasing my Nintendo Switch.
    After purchasing my Nintendo switch, I have had zero need to use my iPad Pro. Since owning the switch my iPad Pro has been sitting on my desk collecting dust. I have come to the conclusion that I am going to sell it and use my iPhone Max Pro and MBP as my daily EDC devices, and rely on my Switch for my gaming needs. Thank you for all your great videos and I still especially love your Mac Utility videos.

      Thats why I got the logitec one. also the price. But I wouldnt have mind taking the magic keyboard if It could protect my iPad better, and have a place to secure the pen and also have the external sides of It getting worn out pretty quickly because of the material. I felt like all this lacking didn't justify the price point. Since the logitec doesn't have a huge gap of performance compared to magic keyboard, and also it costing half the price, I chose to buy that.

I keep getting blue boxes that highlight everywhere and I have to type and hit spacebar twice just to be able to type properly or else if I hit space bar, it does like an active, enter or select and it like kicks me out of the program or whatever I was doing it really is a pain in the ass

    Instead of introducing different gestures than what we use on the iPad screen why not have the trackpad act as a mini iPad screen so we can use the exact same gestures in the exact same location? For example, let us swipe down from the top right corner to access the Control Center.

Do you need to add a cover to the pencil to prevent from having marks on it and on the iPad. Few people reported some marks due to magnetic on the iPad and on the Pencil. What is your thoughts about it and did you experience things like that with yours. Thanks so much for your feedback.
