Rear Admiral Thomas M. Dykers, retired, was the Captain of the USS Jack, he has earned the Navy Cross, the second highest medal in the Navy, the Silver Star and the Bronze Star. Later in the 1960's he worked in the oil and gas business in New Orleans, La. He passed away in June 13, 1975.
This is host Tom Dykers' first patrol in the Jack. It's dramatized here and also well described in James Calvert's book Silent Running. Calvert was key to torpedo launches manning the target data computer.
I will take a woke crew, anytime, anywhere. A Crew needs to be aware to the needs of their crew members. Informed, knowledgeable, brave and courageous. Eager to make the world a better place. I don't discriminate. My colors are red, white and blue.
After watching this and sizing up, Archie and the captain, the captain was a lot smaller than Archie. Why didn’t he go in the tube? I guess being Captain has its privileges.
That is the USS Pickerel emergency blow from 150' with Ewa Beach O'ahu in the background. This was in 1952. According to crew aboard, the sub attained a maximum deck angle of 67 degrees. But that was below the surface. By the time of breach it was about 50 degrees. It doesn't happen all at once so yes, men would remain on their feet although the offwatch might choose to hit their berths.

I like Clay Blair’s SILENT VICTORY and his books on German U-Boat operations, THE HUNTERS and THE HUNTED. Will have to look for Calvert’s book.
Thomas m. Dykers was the skipper !!
Great plot twist there at the end.
He should have gotten Navy cross or medal of Honor
What a cool story

Why are they smoking while submerged? Doesn’t that waste oxygen?
Was this a movie also?

0:02 There's no way everyone could hold on while surfacing at that angle... They'd have to stand on the walls.

A MUSTANG! AWESOME!
The PICKEREL surfacing has been a long-remarked upon event.
No walls onna boat . Bulkheads , yes
@@jerrylagesse9046 True but a wall is a universal word for anything that separates or encloses a space,.
Smoking while the boat was dived didn't help their air quality any.
Mmm make high LG un
