Larry Bird, one of the most legendary figures in basketball history, is renowned for his incredible moments on the court. Here are some of his greatest moments:
    1. **The 1984 NBA Finals**: Bird led the Boston Celtics to a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, earning Finals MVP honors. His performance, highlighted by his leadership and clutch plays, solidified his reputation as a clutch player.
    2. **Back-to-Back MVP Awards (1984-1986)**: Bird won three consecutive NBA MVP awards, a testament to his dominance in the league. His versatile play, including scoring, passing, and rebounding, made him a complete player.
    3. **1985 Eastern Conference Semifinals, Game 5**: Known as the "Heat Game," Bird scored 34 points and grabbed 17 rebounds despite playing in sweltering heat and battling dehydration, leading the Celtics to a crucial victory.
    4. **The Steal Against the Pistons (1987)**: In the 1987 Eastern Conference Finals, Bird made a legendary steal in Game 5, intercepting an inbound pass and assisting Dennis Johnson for a game-winning layup, a play etched in NBA history.
    5. **Career-High 60 Points (1985)**: Bird scored a career-high 60 points against the Atlanta Hawks, showcasing his scoring prowess and ability to take over a game single-handedly.
    6. **Three-Point Contest Wins**: Bird won the first three NBA Three-Point Contests (1986, 1987, and 1988), famously raising his finger in victory before his final shot even went in during the 1988 contest, epitomizing his confidence and shooting skill.
Larry Bird's career is filled with remarkable moments that highlight his competitiveness, skill, and unyielding determination, cementing his legacy as one of basketball's all-time greats.

Glad you are back and I totally agree about play on the defensive end. As a long time fan of Bird let me reiterate that Bird in the 1983 season finished tied for 3rd place for the DPOY award!!! Bird was on 3 all defensive teams ( 2nd team) and led the league in defensive win shares 4 times. Bird was also 7 times in the top 5 in DWS!!! Bird was once 2nd in DRTG and was 6 times in the top 10 in DRTG. Bird was not the same player after his dual heel surgery and back issues but during his first 9 seasons in the NBA was as good as we have ever seen!!

One of the great things about youtube is it's ability for people like ourselves to go back and appreciate these legends who helped build the sport. After the recent passing of Jerry West I did some digging. That dude has a legit case for top 5 basketball minds of all time. From player, to coach, to scout, to GM, he excelled at every level. It's tragic that The Logo himself never got the flowers he so rightfully deserved. EDIT: And Bird is best small forward of all time.

I think the players today stay in their main roles, instead of doing everything they can to win. Bird always thought about how he would deal with certain defenders, what kind of shots he neded, etc. He was not a selfish player. He always looked for better shots. They knew what each teammate could do. Larry and Jordan are also good friends now.

(3:20) If you check the stats you'll find Clark is 19th in rebounds, 16th in blocks and 17th in steals, and this is for the entire league not just the rookies, plus all this with just the 1st 22 games . If you're claiming she's been unable to stop the veterans she's been assigned to that's one thing but to claim she doesn't play defense is simply inaccurate. She needs to learn defense which is the hardest part of basketball, give her some time!

I watched a lot of Bird clips recently and I enjoyed your take.
    Just my 2 cents.
I get your Clark and Reese comparison but I think it's a slight to Larry Bird though, because he was so much better, despite what many first think, he was good on Defense as well, (lots of blocks/steals/rebounds).
I agree with your Dr. J comments, Dr. J deserves the recognition and respect.
I think Dr.J gets a little forgotten under the shadow of Bird/Magic, and I believe Dr.J himself feels a little disrespected as seen from his comments over the years when asked who he thinks is the best, there's always hesitation, even though he credits Bird at times whether reluctantly or not.
Those comparing Barkley to Bird is not even close, as Bird took on Barkley, Malone, and Dr. J all at the same time.
A lot of big egos, a lot of jealousy, and most think they're the best in their own minds.
But from what I remember, LA was Magic, not Kareem, no disrespect to Kareem but I think most know what I mean.
Biases aside, in the 80's, Bird was the best and everybody knew it, they either gave him the praise, they hated him, or they kept their mouths shut for whatever reason because they just knew.
Not even Jordan disrespects Bird. Jordan learned a lot about trash talking from Bird. Jordan didn't want any teammate to even speak to Bird because he knew if Bird got triggered he could turn it on at will.
Everyone has bias, everyone has opinions, but the best never has to toot their own horn.
I slowly lost interest in the NBA after Bird retired, his greatness spoiled a lot of us, it just didn't seem the same after. If it wasn't for Jordan the NBA would of fizzled out, that's probably why they marketed and hyped him so much.
I didn't appreciate Magic as much I should have until years later, and I enjoyed watching Jordan in the 90's whether cheering for or against him.
My friends that were MJ fans dissed Larry as too old even though Bird still got the better of Jordan in his later years, but I think it would of been a total different story if Bird was injury free or even better if he was in his prime. People forget but Bird wasn't slow in his younger years.
It's a shame that hardly anybody puts Bird in their top 5.
It seems to me in recent years that RUclips has surprisingly preserved and resurrected Larry Bird's dominance, it brings back a lot of memories as well.
I cheered for Bird and proudly wore a Bird jersey occasionally as a teenager, and my all time favorites are Bird/Magic/Jordan. I loved my original black Jordan sneakers and wore them out playing games.
Oh and by the way, as a Bird fan watching in the 80's, I had no idea Bird was a bad ass trash talker, this was also a shocker that puts him on another level, and again brought to most everyone by RUclips.
    Good luck with your channel.

He wasn't being disrespect of Bird, he was saying how great those other players were, but they were not feared by other great players like Bird was. Bird doesn't get the credit he deserves, but part of that was because he didn't want publicity he just wanted to win. He once told a reporter he didn't care what he wrote because he didn't read it. It's the players that are great and enjoy talking to the media that people tend to talk about.

Bird was very dangerous whether he had the ball, or not, but was a terror when he had the ball and got a little hot, which he did pretty often. I think those characteristics, with his complete game, and his "clutch play" during the last few seconds of a close game, were what set him apart, to some degree.

Speaking about Defense, you know what the great Gary Payton (aka “The Glove”) said about Bird? Bird told him, “Young fella, you’re supposed to be a great defensive player, right”? “I’m going to take you right over there in that corner and fake you and shoot it. And there’s nothing you can do about it”. So Payton said that he was up under him and Bird put him on his back, and there was nothing he could do about it. Then Bird just rose up, shot it, and it was all net. Payton said, “I not gonna mess with you no more”.

Dude I've loved following Clark and Reese. I admit that I only recently started actually putting an eye on the WNBA, but there are some players that are really fun to watch in there. I can't even express with words just how much I don't care about all the culture war debates that they're being dragged into. I'm a liberal so I tend to agree with them anyway even if that agreement is a bit disinterested, but that doesn't matter either. I just love watching them play. They're amazing. I do agree with you about Caitlin though and it's just a general frustration I have about today's game: offensive players don't stay active the whole play. They just jog around and wait for a pass so they can show off.

Larry Bird is the only person to be named Rookie of the Year, league MVP (3x), Finals MVP (2x), Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year. His only "negative" was that his career was cut short by a back injury, and he missed a season with a foot injury, so he didn't get the chance to amass the career numbers of LeBron, or Michael.
And to your question, no, nobody disrespected Larry Bird during his time. It was Bird and Magic at the top, and everyone else under them, until Jordan came into his own. 80s basketball was Bird, Magic, and Jordan. Period.

I think most real hoop fans know what Dr.J was, he was the flash, the stylized, before what was to come. I think also he’s one c of the most recognizable names in the sport amongst just random people, ball fans or not, one of the original ball pop icons. It’s hard to compare aba and nba. While the aba may cost him in nba stats, I think it grew legend as flash, stylized. On a personal note, I believe George Gervin to be one of the most underrated players that doesn’t get paid his dues.

If defense is your thing, Red Auerbach turned the position of Center into primarily a defensive position: clear the board and kick it downcourt FAST to the Celtic backcourt who were already streaking the second they saw Russell go for the block or rebound. Red couldn't do this without Bill. Thats why he stocked the 11 other spots with speed and shooters.
When drafted, he told Red, "I'm not much of a scorer..."
"Don't worry about it. You got 11 teammates who eat, drink, and sleep scoring. We got scoring covered. You get.them the ball. But don't let me see you block a shot into the stands. Or to the enemy. If you block, you or another Celtic gets the ball." Then after a few games, Cousy started telling Russell who the line drive shooters on other teams were. Once Cousy saw what Russell could do. "You can ruin careers and make guys triple pump, quadruple pump, and quintuple pump.$
And he did. You haven't lived until youve seen Jerry Logo of the Lakers (and Elgin Baylor) go up against Russell in a halfcourt offense. After the first few games, it was swing that rock around until it got to a Laker a half mile from Bill. Russell was like baseball's Bob Feller in that the opposing team started having nightmares about him two or three games in advance, he was that notorious. Feller was a pitcher, by the way.
And let me say this. Bill was all about Civil Rights off the court. Compare that to people-pleasing Wilt or money-hungry Jordan ("Republicans buy basketball shoes, too.$) He wore Spike's X cap and that was all.
And I wonder what it was like for Reggie Miller and Mark Jackson and Chris Mullen to close out their NBA careers on the high note of playing for their old enemy, Coach Of The Year Larry Bird? He took them to the conference finals his first year, then up against LA the next.year? He gave them the best chance at a title the Pacers ever saw. And like Brady in Tampa Bay, Bird did his own recruiting, bringing in the last true team players for Indiana, at least team players who didn't already play for Chicago or LA. AND Bird worked the refs like Jordan. Plus, he had TWO Pacer Enforcers, Antonio Davis and Dale Davis. Rodman was MIA when the Bulls (whom he now played for) played Indiana. He knew better than to get either of THOSE guys mad.

I'm A Woman And I Have NO Interest In WNBA. And For Last 20 To For Sure Last 10 Years. It's Really Got Hard To Watch The NBA. They Really Need To Re-Name This NBA-Franchise. Comon They Aren't Playing BB Out There. It's Like The Players Just Take Turns Shooting A 3 OR Slam Dunking. You Don't Have To Think Or Outthink Anyone Or Have Any Wit Playing. And If A Team Couldn't Make It Worse; They Hire LeFlop's Buddy JJ And Then Bend A Knee AGAIN To LeFlop On Drafting His Son Bronny. What Another Joke To Happen For The NBA-Franchise's. Yes, It Would Be Nice To See Dr J., He Was The First Highflyer. But I Will Say It Kinda P*sses Me Off When I See Reactor's Think That Was So COOL Of Dr J., Hitting Bird While 2 Of His Teammates Hold Larry & Holding Him Around His Neck. That's The Only Time I Ever Looked At Dr J. Different. And Still To This Day HE Has Never Omitted On How Wrong He Was. Don't Get Wrong They Do Still Respect Each Other, BUT Not Over That Time. Also I Have Missed You @Solid, Glad To See You Back.

I feel they need to let players play instead of calling flagrant fouls bc they are fouling to prevent a free layup! Not to mention the flops or if you just come close to a foul and a 3 point shooter

Dr J was one of the greatest players to lace them up! He played in the BA for most of his career. Dunking the basketball was illegal back in the day. Because Wilt Chamberlain was so big and could score at will and that's when the 3 second in the paint was made because of Chamberlain. When the

And yes Dr j deserves his flowers. There are a bunch of players from that Great era that deserve more credit. What's the sad thing is I think the NBA died after Kobe retired. Kobe's era was the last decent era.

When the ABA and NBA combined, they changed the rules and started allowing dunking because it was exciting. Dr J was the best dunker in the NBA for years until players started practicing the dunk! George Gerving would finger roll the ball in the basket because he at first was illegal to dunk and Get in was a prolific scorer. Pete Marivitch rarely dunked because it was illegal back then.

Bobby Knight was all about his system..and in defense of Coach Knight, his system worked. If you played for him, you were a cog in that system. Bird wouldn't have had a problem with that. Jordan got along fine with Knight when he played for him on the 84 Olympic team.

(4:46) The comparison between Magic and bird and Clark & Reese is only surface level, mainly black and white. Bird and Johnson were virtually on the same skill level for all of the basketball prerequisites, this is not the same with Clark and Reese. Reese is a monster rebounder and solid scorer but Clark is the all around best player on the court. As for Championships, that says more about the team they are on because it takes teams to win Championships.

I'm a born and raised, life-long Iowan, and I've gotten SUCH crap for not immediately getting on Caitlin's wagon LOL. cant tell you how many times I heard yet again some part-time fan comparing her to Pistol. 🙄
I despise all the exaggerated hype long shooters have been getting for the past decade, mostly cause I think all this bass ackwards focus on 3s ruined the game in the first place. RUINED IT. pure shooting and only that doesn't impress me. at all. what ELSE can you do? you WERE taught fundamentals, right? they're at least still doing that? 🙄
the rest of her game is pretty lackluster, and I'd be surprised if her rookie year hasnt been a shock to the system. NCAA is not WNBA. schools typically have one, maybe 2 star players who pop out on draft radars (Assuming they stayed in school more than a year anyway--cant stand that trend either but that's a rant for another day). when you go big time, EVERYONE on the floor was probably their school's superstar. get to work.
and with me, your stock immediately drops to the basement if you dont D up, dont hustle, let plays get away from you, or stand back on your shorts waiting for the rock when you should be trying to set a screen, get a rebound, pick off holes in passing lanes.... whatever, just get your ass after it. you only make it harder on your squad. you can stand around doing fk all later after practice. 🤨
and seriously, has the league become allergic to post?? seems like the friggin spacing keeps getting farther apart every time you blink. they're gonna have to increase the court size before long. take away the 3 line, SOMETHING. or rename whatever sport it is they're supposedly play now (when they arent courtside eating ribs "resting" when they should be in the damn game). this isnt proper hoop anymore, and sorry y'all, that aint even sports "entertainment" cause now it's mostly just irritating or boring as hell. or both.
