I love buttons and have a jar of mother of pearl the horseshoe one was lovely. I have a hexagon shaped box with a hinged lid that a friend gave me as a present in the 70s. I enjoy how you link the magazine articles and your collections.
I also collect mother of pearl (buttons only) and love your collection. I have some different ones like yours, but I don’t have any square ones and I love the one you have. Thanks for sharing your collection with us.
Lovely precious collection of mother of pearl items. I have only collected buttons, easy to find from the flea markets over here. Thank you for showing your treasures.
I have my great grandmothers buttons. There are lots of gorgeous MOP plus old chech glass and some beautiful jet and many more. A good portion are Victorian. I'm going to make a Victorian button string like girls would do in the 1800s. You can google the stories and see how and why they did them. I will try and share it when its finished. It will be a little while until I have the time. Love all your beautiful things. Usually those large buttons went on coats. Maybe the horseshoe were on a Kentucky derby jacket.
Great collection of mother of pearl items.I have 2 knives and a pie server, they look good sticking out of one my vintage black and white Dundee marmalade crocks. You have alot of beautiful buttons! Thank you for sharing!
Great collection! My favorite piece is the seafood fork. It's beautiful - I especially like the tines on the outside of the fork for some reason. I also like that unique bowl that you store the knives in. Thanks for sharing all that "gorgeousness" with us.
You have such a beautiful collectiom of mother of pearl. I love collecting them too. I have a favourite piece which is a jewellery box made of mother of pearl which has a scene sculptured on top and has sterling trims around lid and bottom. It belonged to my Grandmother. Love your videos
In New Orleans button makers would throw the oyster shells out in the yards when they were used up. Looked like eyes staring back at you! What a beautiful collection.
What a pretty group of objects! I have never found a pearl handled utensil while thrifting but, of course, I keep looking! All your pearl buttons remind me of the "Pearlies" in Great Britain, who cover their entire costume with pearl buttons! The button with the horseshoe is quite unique! Thank you for continuing to share your lovely collections!
You have done an excellent job of creating a tactile treat using visuals and audio! I learned a great deal. I have a few mother of pearl buttons but no actual knowledge😂 The salt and pepper shakers are so lovely and unique😊💕
Just recently went to thrift shops/consignment store in Kona, Hawaii. I found 3 interesting buttons and it made me think of you. They are metal I think, but what was interesting about them was they have coat of arms from Salzburg, Germany. I bought them for a couple of cents. But my point is that, I learned from you that buttons are not the mundane items they seem to be. No mother of pearl buttons. Thank you.
The round pierced spoon (repaired handle) may be a tomato server and the long fork may be a pickle fork. The vintage tomato serving spoons are regaining popularity in Southern Alabama.
I love mother of pearl , here in England you can find the cutlery items so cheaply, they don’t seem to be popular at the moment. I love them and pick them up when ever I find a pretty one , and I use them . You have some lovely things .x
Oh I really need to look for some prettier jars for my buttons - and I MUST separate out my mother of pearl/shell buttons as they are mixed in with my whites, creams and beiges depending on their colour.
Love your mother of pearl collection 🌸

Thank you for information. I bought 5 steak knives with mother of pearl handles--now I’ll have to check for the sterling collars❤
Sometimes they aren’t marked but could still be sterling. Let me know if you find a marking.

That’s wonderful!

I also have found that mother of pearl buttons feel cool to the touch.
That’s a good sign too!
wow, that thing cleaned up really nice!
Yep!
Not me sorting my buttons tonight and looking for mop videos and finding yours 🤣😘

I’ve paid $1-$4 for the pieces. I dont think they are that popular over here now either. I’ll happily scoop them up!

It’s fun to sit and sort them.
😊👍👋
